Unforgettable and fulfilling 5-course dinner
E Molto Buono
2017-01-04
My bestie arranged a surprise birthday dinner for me. To my surprise, given the disperse location of this cosy restaurant in the city, food quality is beyond expectation and I would love to be back for more.$698 isn't a cheap price for a romantic and exclusive dinner, but food and environment made it a worthy try. Portion of food isn't small and can definitely fill up your stomach by the five courses. However, be prepared to spend 2-3 hours here as this isn't a restaurant aiming for quick meals. Staff were attentive and explained to dishes well, so what you have to be prepared is patience and mood to enjoy the long dinner. We got two glasses of house wine to kickstart the evening ($78), which went well with most of the dishes with its light but aromatic scent.I love the black squid ink bread in the basket most, other two kinds were crispy and sumptuous to go with olive oil and vinegar too.Tried hard to take pics but it was quite dimly lit, so photos weren't that bright. A clean and a dense starter makes a perfect contrast which is fine for sharing. I like the one with prawn tartare though my friend would love the intense flavour of goose breast instead.Lobster bisque and sweet potato soups were hot when served, as if they just left the stove! Love the creaminess in both soups, I would recommend the sweet potato one as it is more special and rarely found elsewhere. For entree, we tried foie gras which was so huge, as well as portobello stuffed with crab meat. For main courses, we tried slow-cooked iberico pork which was so succulent and juicy that makes it not having the conventional taste of pork! For the other one, braised ox cheek in red wine, it was so decadent though a bit difficult to finish quickly given the intense flavour.Sadly didn't take a pic for my dessert which in fact tasted well too. Enjoyed the night with good food and chats so much!…Read More

Fulfilling Belgium lunch
FRITES Belgium on Tap
2016-06-24
There was once a Frites Belgium on Tap in Central, but only until mid of last year, it revived, though on the edge of Central (towards the Sheung Wan side). Headed there for lunch, quite a big portion costing around $200 per head, with appetiser, a really fulfilling main course and a pavlova which can't be easily found elsewhere.Ordering the steak to be medium-rare was just cooked to its optimum, perfect state of pinkish interior. Thumbs up for the timing!…Read More

Cosy weekday lunch in a heritage building
AMMO

It was quite a while after this meal, but only recently do I have time to pick up foodblogging! My buddies work in Admiralty too, so it wasn't at all difficult spot the restaurant, though it required a bit of upslope walking.A 3-course lunch set at $248 (+10%) is deemed fine at the district, given the ambience and classy decor, it is worth a go!All crispy element went to the different kinds of pastry in the basket. An alluring start before anything was served! My friend told me that in her stay in Europe, "Mediterranean Coca" is in fact a traditional dish which resembles a pizza. Crispy bread piece, replacing "pizza", is well matched with the just-right savory sardines! The portion of risotto is truly enough for a man. Texture is great, being supple and saucy. For the common name "mango pudding", it came with a surprise - mango cubes on top are a little bit sour to highlight the mango taste and neutralise the sweetness brought by the pudding. A really nice craft and marks a good end to the decent lunch!…Read More

The Yuu Japanese Dining
2016-06-13
XD…Read More

Uptop Bistro and Bar

Popway is in fact quite a new boutique hotel opposite to the History Museum. Not really central within Tsim Sha Tsui area but given the high C/P value of starter + main course lunch set which ranges from $88 to $128 and the stunning view, it is worth a go!There aren't many seats in the restaurant, I bet there are just 20-30. If you want to secure window seats, make sure you book before going. Before starters, we are served with warm bread in a bag plus herb butter. For starter, we all chose the "Uptop Pomelo Salad" - a refreshing start!Risotto Portobello ($98) is in a just-ok portion, though one will in fact be fed up by the creamy texture of risotto even if the portion is bigger. Portobello is roasted while keeping the soft and moist texture, nice!Grilled Australia Sirloin Steak ($128) is quite a big piece of it. Tasted not bad, though one can't really ask for much for the beefy flavour. Given such a big piece of steak, the portion of mushroom sauce should indeed be more...Spaghetti Seafood ($88) is quite a boring option in fact - tasting fine with fresh shrimps and squid rings, but not much in surprise. It is worth the bargain and especially the comfortable environment which you can stay for some time for a chat with friends. Should give it a try especially when the weather is fine so that you can look really far from here!…Read More

Folly Bliss Tea Cafe
2016-06-10
…Read More

SAMA HK
2016-06-10
…Read More
