Good food - interesting Italian x Japanese fusion
Trattoria Kagawa by Mihara
2023-04-04
We went there for Restaurant Week's Winner Edition menu for dinner - and it was a 5 course set with 2 starters, 2 main, and a dessert. There's no choices which is great for the boyfriend since he can never choose.First starter - the sashimi was fresh and great, love the dressing on the side.starter 2 - an interesting mix of japanese with pasta.Main 1 - very crispy skin on the fish. The mussel is slightly old though. The 'main' main - wagyu beef roll. Not as substantial as one would like but the cheesy potato mash/gnocchi mix under was delicous.A very good pana cotta. All in all, food was good but the service was a bit slow and chaotic.…Read More

🥪 prime beef sandwich 💰 98hkdWith a side salad 🥗 and four sandwich cuts, it can fill you up a bit with room for dessert! The beef slices are tender 👌🏼 with beetroot and mustard pairing. The bread is also toasted which makes all the difference ☕️ dirty 💰 40 hkdMy sis said it’s good 👀 Overall, I love how spacious it is, although the low table doesn’t make eating 🍽 easy.Staff served the meals wrong but are very friendly and accommodating! Bagel heaven!
The Brew Corner

Choose your own bagel 😋 although I think with that much filling, any will do 😆 🥯 The Stack 💰 82 hkdWith more fillings than you’d think possible - it’s a meatilicious choice and I’m always happy to find pastrami 🍖 in HK! The only down side is that everything seems a bit slap together and not toasted🥯 the Melt 🧀 💰 60Cheese galore with mac and cheese as well! Certainly very interesting and reasonably filling 👌🏼 Overall, I like their western selection and the side salad 🥗 . But the bagels 🥯 would have been a lot better toasted! 🥤 we added on drinks as well and the tea size was pitiful, but the pricier smoothies are pretty good #laughtraveleat #newterritories #火炭 #火炭美食 #香港美食 #bagelhk #bagelsandwich…Read More

Amazing 4 course French Dinner in a hidden spot
Warren
2017-06-30
We visited Warren before for brunch and since they have a new dinner menu, we wanted to check it out.Their have a 3 and 4 course menu, at 390 and 430 HKD (Starter+soup+main +/dessert)We got there early at around 6:45 and snagged the last free table - do reserve in advance if you want to have dinner here! The manager was super nice and welcomed us warmly. Unfortunately the lighting wasn't good where we were sat so my photos aren't the best. After we ordered, we were given bread with truffle butter! We also ordered a glass of Esmeralda (white wine) each by recommendation, and it's delicious!First come the starter, I ordered the pan-seared foie gras and it was done perfectly and a great compliment with mango chutney sauce. My sister decided to splurge an extra 40 HKD for a fresh lobster salad, which is super freshur soups arrive after - both are of top notch quality and nothing like the water downed version I've had in other western restaurant. You can smell the freshness of french onion and I love the cheesy pastry inside. The lobster soup is so flavorsome that it's almost like a sauce! Then the main came - my sister ordered their signature salmon confit, which is so good that it melts in the mouth! The white wine sauce is a great combination with it and they gave us some salt, too.The iberico pork shoulder is tender and the mustard sauce really brings out the tenderness and fresh flavour, too. Finally comes the dessert - even though I was already getting full but it's just too good not to finish. The creme brulee cheesecake is very unique and really puts together the best of both world:The chocolate delight is equally good, particularly with the vanilla homemade ice cream!Overall - an amazing experience!…Read More

Cute French restaurant tucked away in the streets
Warren
2017-05-21
Hidden in the meandering streets of Tai Hang area, it's tucked behind the residential building of the same name.It has a white, modern and wooden decor with a mosaic bar and restaurant area. The restaurant is small, with 6-7 tables and cute hanging lamps that give a dim, warm lighting. We ordered the brunch menuThe wait between order and food was about 20 minutes - and then they finally came! The portions are both decent - so let me start with the Duck Breast salad with seared crepe:There are less duck breast than I anticipated - only 3 pieces, but the crepe was nice with the mayo and so was the salad. The soft shell crab is really good - there's 2 small pieces and 1 large pieces. They add lemon juice in Hollandaise sauce which I am not a fan of - but the bread was good, too.…Read More

Worse meal of 2017
The Hangout by Under Vacuum
2017-04-20
Honestly I can safely say it is the worse dinning experience in 2017.The best part of the restaurant is its decorThe food took half an hour plus to come, which since it's slow cook, we thought was fine.We ordered the Barbecue platter, which had chicken, ribs, chips and some veggies. The Chicken was super dry, the Baby ribs better but tasteless. The Cajun fries was without Cajun and the Portion was generally on the small side. The gravy was cold as well but at least the corn was ok.But worse is the Hand shred duck angle hair pasta. It came looking like stir fried noodles and it tasted like it's gone bad. We told the waiter who said it's the vinega sauce, but it definitely doesn't taste like it. They also acted like it was our taste bud's problem.Doesn't state it's vinega sauce on menu. The portion was very small; though it is only 68. There were barely any duck present in small quantity.Drinks overall ok, the juice is on the small side. But the kale one taste awful and we had to request a swap.In the end, we paid for it all and told the manager, who was apologetic but didn't seem like she'd be able to do anything at all.I'll never return.…Read More

J & V Mini Kitchen

A dark, western restaurant opposite the mall of Mikiki in San Po Kung, I visited with my family after reading their affordable lunch menu (50 - 100 HKD).Their dated decor and dark lighting don't really recommend them much, but the air con was on so all is good. I ordered their beef filet and my family ordered the porkchop rice and tuna spaghetti. We were given soup and garlic bread, the soup are ok and the garlic bread was thin, but not too horrible (as the previous reviews seem to reflect). The size of the beef isn't that big, and the pepper sauce is a little too spicy, however, overall we didn't find too much wrong with the meal except that it's not amazing. We are unlikely to return again but it's a good budget choice since it gives you drinks as well and have no service fee.…Read More

Huge disappointment...
Gozen Cha
2017-04-10
A lot of hype had been built on the shop's opening and I was excited to try out their matcha ice cream. However, they don't have any gelato, only soft ice-cream, which is odd for a none busy day. So I thought I'd try their soft ice cream. For some reason, the sole cashier decided to move the queueing stands instead of serving me despite the lack of people queueing and me being the only customer. Then I was informed that they only have sakura and matcha twist for soft ice cream. It wasn't a huge problem so I ordered. The sakura flavour, for lack of a better description, tasted like cherry-flavour gone bad. It reminded me of the medicine I used to take as a child and I almost had the urge to throw it away. The soft ice creams are also very watery and generally, the 18 dollars does not feel very well spent and I walked away feeling cheated by social media marketing. The only redeeming point is the quality of the waffle cone.…Read More

New seasonal menu with Miyazaki kumquat & duck
Watami Japanese Casual Restaurant (Windsor House)
2017-03-19
Watami is one of my favourite Japanese restaurant and one that I often go with my family. From now until 25th March, they are doing a special Miyazaki kumquat menu. With prices that starts at 18, the dishes are perfect for spring and a great value. If you don’t know what kumquat is, they are a citrus fruit that is related to orange and tangerine.Miyazaki kumquat & oronamic C special drink宮崎產金桔&奧樂蜜C 特飲 ($38)Made with a vitamin C drink along with the kumquat, this drink is the perfect pick me up with its sweet and sour taste that makes you more ready for food! It’s a super big glass, therefore you can easily share. You can eat the kumquat inside as well and I think I must have ate like 4!Miyazaki hyuganatsu thinly sliced salmon sashimi宮崎產日向夏薄切鮭魚刺身 ($38)This is my favourite dish, period. I usually eat salmon sashimi with wasabi and soya sauce, but eating it with the sweet hyuganatsu is a surprisingly perfect couple. There’s six pieces and each one is about a mouthful – so prepare to fight over it.Miyazaki potato chips宮崎產蕃薯條 ($38)I’m a fan of chips and these thickly sliced Miyazaki potato chips not only looks great, but they also taste great. Good on its own with salt, the dark sugar sauce is an equally great combo thatgives it an extra sweetness.Cold sliced cooked duck 冷製味付鴨片 ($48)Marinated and cooked slowly then fridged, this cooked duck is my second favourite dish that is refreshing and hard to stop eating. The flavours are made stronger by the cool temperature and is great with mustard, too. Onion and duck kebab大蔥鴨肉串 ($18)A quirky this with duck slices wrapped around the spring onion – it’s crunchy and flavoursome with the special sauce. Crunchy duck meat ball with cheese脆炸芝士鴨肉丸 ($38)This reminds me a little of the Chinese beef meatball dim sum, but the crispy exterior and the cheese center are pretty awesome!Duck 陶板鴨肉燒 ($48)I always love frying my own meat (think Korean bbq), you can fried the duck with butte. the meat are thinly sliced so it doesn’t take long to fry at all!…Read More

Great little brunch place in Sai Ying Pun
Locofama
2017-03-18
This little gem is hidden in one of the many alleyways in Sai Ying Pun, and was discovered by my sister through OpenRice. By now it’s well clear that I’ve a preference to western décor restaurant and LocoFama really hit the sweet spot. What I love about it is the wooden-centric décor style and the simplicity. They also provide a healthy menu with brown bread choices (which is rare in Asia). It’s pretty decent in terms of price as well considering everything is fresh: you get 2 organic eggs, 3 toppings and 2 toasts for 98 dollars.…Read More

Good brunch set - if you don't add free flow
MR & MRS FOX
2017-03-18
I find Mr and Mrs Fox’s brunch to be relatively value for money. For 160 HKD, you get a bunch set that includes scones, a choice light breakfast and a main brunch dish. There are a plethora of choices, and since my friend and I had opted for the free flow booze package (for an extra 175 HKD for 2 hours, though we got a seasonal discount at 265 HKD total), we were spoiled for choice. The meal was delicious: the portions sizes were pretty big as well. I ordered Swiss Bircher Muesli and Pastrami Croque Madame, while my friend got Steel Cut Oatmeal and Cavatelli Pasta and Lamb Ragu (which costs an extra 20 HKD). We also had a little too much champagne and Bloody Mary. All in all, it was the best way to catch up with friends and fill your stomach until dinner.…Read More

Great place for a chill afternoon with friends
Moreish & Malt (鴻圖道)
2017-03-18
I’ve walked past Moreish and Malt a couple of months ago after a visit to the Kwun Tong Promenade with my sister and  After studying the menu, I , however, the occasion never came up. Until my friend asked if I wanted to afternoon tea there. Needless to say, I eagerly agreed and hopped on a bus to Kwun Tong, The restaurant was when we arrived around 15:30 and we were led to the back of the restaurant to be seated. I really like their. After inquiring on the afternoon tea, they gave us a menu that has a different price to the one advertised on the article we saw –teapot, Considering the post went live 2 days prior to our visit – it is either a weekend add on or a press special…The tea set isn’t completely the same as advertised, either. The small cake is replaced by a small cookie with cream, but at least it is the same for everyone else in the shop. Onto the detail low-down:Tier 1: The macaroon doesn’t taste like macaroon, though it is the worst piece in the entire tea set. It is hard and doesn’t taste like anything at all except sugar, lacking the melty-ness of macaroon and the Earl Grey filling has zero taste. The cookie, though small, was actually soft with chocolate filling and not overly sweet. It tasted kind of like Mrs Field’s Cookies.Tier 2:  overall a filling and satisfying savory piece with enough topping. However, most afternoon teas consist of two dishes per plate and having a salad accompany a bigger piece does seem a bit stingy. The brownie was soft, crunchy and melts in your mouth – and of a more decent portion than the cookie. The croissant was a little stale and not warm, but edible with the butter and jam provided.EARL GREY TEA:It was a nice tea and one pot is good to share among friends. You can also ask for hot water refill.VERDICT:Food I would give it a 3 out of 5 stars because the only bad dish is the macaroon, as the price is still extremely affordable for two even after the 10% service charge – we paid about 75 HKD per person.Overall, I would rank it 3.5 out of 5 stars as the décor was nice, the staff was polite and we were able to sit and chat for as long as we want. I would definitely recommend it to a nice afternoon of girls chitchat.…Read More

有特色又不錯的一間雞蛋仔店
Yummy Yummy
2017-02-08
…Read More
