Great view and food
Penthouse by Harlan Goldstein
2014-11-08
Wanted to try this new Harlan’s restaurant for awhile, finally came here for the semi lunch buffet. It was a nice and sunny day, the view was great as we can look across the harbor. The appetizer buffet was good, including a few different ready made salads, a lot of fresh greens and dressings. They also have parma ham and some salami. I had a few rounds of the freshly cut ham and melons, they complemented each other very nicely. The salads was also very fresh, one of the ready made salad was spicy and tasty.I ordered the H burger as my main and my friend had the salmon. I had a bite of the salmon, it was cooked just right, the fish was very moist and fresh, the ham wrapped around it added a very nice salty taste to it. My burger was great, especially the potato wedges. They were crispy on the outside and very fluffy on the inside, one of the best wedges I had. The beef patty was very juicy and tender, and the bun was hot and soft.I tried most of the different desserts on the table. The choco cake and the meringue were my favorites. The meringue was very light and fluffy. All of the other desserts were quite good. However, I can’t find some desserts that others mentioned previously, I guess they change the dessert selections from time to time. …Read More

tasty lunch
Bistronomique Staunton
2014-11-08
Came here for lunch with my family last month. We ordered set lunch, there were a several choices for both appetizer and main course. I had the seared tuna with green salad as appetizer. The tuna was nicely seared dressed with black vinegar sauce. The greens were also very fresh. I had the duck and mushroom risotto as my main. The risotto was a tad undercooked for me, but the ingredients were nicely cooked as the duck meat was very juicy and tender. The sauce was tangy and goes well with all the ingredients. I didn’t order dessert as I was quite full, had an iced lemon tea to end my lunch.…Read More

Came here for business lunch recently. We ordered 3 course set lunch which included choice of appetizer, main course and dessert. They served bread first, it was all right, but I would like it hot. The server for some reason didn’t give me any olive oil while he gave it to everyone else, and I have to ask for mine. I had the antipasti, the buffet included salads, cold cuts, cheeses, smoked salmon, prawns etc. They were all quite nice, the salads and seafood were fresh and tasty. I picked a medium rare steak as my main, but it was overcooked, more like a medium. The taste was ok, but it was abit dry. Didn’t really try anything from the dessert table except some fresh fruits. I saw someone dropped some food nearby our table and it laid there for more than 5 mins before someone picked it up despite a few servers walked by it, no one seems to want to do it. Despite the nice seaview, the price is abit too high given the quality of food and service they provided here.…Read More

Quick lunch
1968 Old Market
2014-08-22
Went here for a quick lunch as I was in the area. First came the complementary Chinese soup, it was ok, with some corn and pork in it. Then came the chicken rice, the portion was fine but the chicken was bland. However, the texture was all right, as the meat was not dry. The sauce was nothing special, as expected. I didn’t like the rice too much as it had too much coco taste to it, first time I had such taste in a chicken rice. It also comes with a lemon tea at the end. I def prefer this place more than the Café de Coral next door if I want to grab a quick bite.…Read More

Disappointing pasta
James Kitchen
2014-08-19
Been here for lunch for a few times in the past, they were quite good. However, had a disappointing experience this time when I was here for lunch with my colleague. We each ordered a set lunch. I had the clam chowder soup as my appetizer. The soup was all right, quite tasty and not too thick. However, my main was a disappointment. I ordered the shrimp and cream sauce linguine. First of all, the pasta was abit over cooked, not al dente at all. The big disappointment was in the shrimps, as most of them were very mushy. The sauce was the only part of the dish that was a pass, but I didn’t finish the dish at the end. I know I shouldn’t expect fresh shrimps given the price they charge, but I didn’t expect mushy shrimps either. They should consider to take this dish off the menu if they are going to serve shrimps like this to their customers. My colleague had the baked pork leg, he said it was ok, but the meat was not very tender and abit dry.Dessert was a walnut choco cake, the choco taste was strong and not too sweet, too bad it was too dry and dense. Had an iced lemon tea to finish the lunch. I guess I won’t return anytime in the near future after this experience.…Read More

Nice relaxing lunch
Café de Paris
2014-08-19
Went to Soho for lunch on the weekend few wks ago. Was walking around and ended up going to Café de Paris to give it a try as we didn’t want to walk around to check out other places in this hot sunny day.Their set lunch includes both salad and soup. The salad was a beetroot salad, the greens were fresh and the beetroot was sweet. The soup was a cream of corn soup, it was def not from the Campbell soup. It was sweet, but I would like to have more corn bites to it. Not a bad start anyways. Then came the main, I had the US grilled pork chop. It was a huge pork chop, very thick and had the lovely grilled marks on it. The pork chop was grilled on the mark, as it very tender and juicy, didn’t need any sauces to go with it. The side cabbage was also a good compliment to the porkchop. They also serve a small choco cake for dessert. The choco cake was moist and the choco taste was strong. Didn’t know what is the mousse on top of the choco cake though, it was abit sour, balancing out the sweetness of the choco cake. Had an iced tea to finish off this good value lunch.…Read More

HOT lunch
Italian Cuisine

Met up my friend for lunch during the weekend. We wanted to go to another restaurant but the place was full, so we ended up going to this place as a couple was just leaving. They serve set lunch with appetizer, main and drink/ dessert. I ordered Caesar salad as my app, and beef tenderloin as my main. My friend had the Greek salad and seafood paella. They served focaccia, which was quite dense and the taste is kinda bland, I didn’t really like it. The salad came quickly, and the portion was quite big with fresh lettuce, the dressing was nice and tasty as well. But it could use abit more parmesan, crouton and bacon bits. My friend had the Greek salad and she said the veggie was also nice and fresh, and the fata cheese added a nice flavor to it. Then came the main courses, I think they brought our food to another table, as they left the beef at the other table and served the paella to my friend. They served my beef shortly afterwards, but the beef was way overcooked, more like a medium well, prob that's what the other table ordered and def not the medium rare which I ordered. They brought me another plate and this was cooked right. The steak had the nice grilled marks and it was  tender, the sides were ok, the potato mash was tasty but could find bits of potato. I didn’t taste my friend’s paella, but she liked it as the sauce was very tasty and fragrant while the seafood was ok, plus the portion was very big and she couldn’t finish it. I had a cup of iced lemon tea to end my lunch.…Read More

Great Tonkatsu!
Tonkichi Tonkatsu Seafood
2014-07-04
Tonkichi serves one of the best tonkatsu in HK in my opinion. I was in CWB this past weekend and came across this outlet. I haven’t been to this place for awhile because they used to have long lineups. May be now that they have more outlets, the lineups disappeared.Without any hesitation, we ordered the pork chop and pork loin tonkatsu set. The bowl of sesame came first, which we grinded and mixed with the tonkatsu sauce. I love the tangy sauce with sour and savory tastes. My friend's pork chop set came first and then my loin set was served soon after. The tonkatsu is still very good, the meat was very juicy and tender, while the crumbs was very crispy and light. I tried my friend’s pork chop, but I can’t really tell the difference between the two, except the loin has a thicker cut, which I liked. I guess I will go with the pork chop next time since it is slightly cheaper. The rice was also cooked just right and I ended up having a few bowls. I also ate a lot of the cabbage salad which was very refreshing, I think I had three or four rounds of it. The tasty sesame and yuzu sauces go very well with the cabbage salad.I will be visiting this place more often now that they don’t have the long line ups.…Read More

Great lunch deal!
Jardin de Jade
2014-06-06
Came here for biz lunch earlier this week. We decided to opt for the set lunch here, which includes an appetizer, soup, main dish and dessert. There were a lot of choices to pick from for the appetizer and main course. We picked the sweet vinegar spare ribs and sliced chicken with Vermicelli in sesame sauce as appetizers. The sweet vinegar sauce was just right, not too sweet and sour while the spare ribs were tender and juicy. The chicken was tender, the vermicelli was smooth and soft, and the sesame sauce mixed well with the chicken and vermicelli. As for the soup, we both decided to go for the West Lake Beef soup as the other choice has bamboo shoots in it. The soup was very hot, and the soup base was not too thick while the beef bites were soft and tasty. Then came the main courses. We ordered the black pepper beef fired rice and the wine stir fried fish fillet. The black pepper beef fried rice was quite big in portion, to my surprise. But most importantly, the taste was good. The black pepper taste was strong, the beef was tender and juicy and the fried rice was dry. A very nice dish overall. Meanwhile, the wine stir fried fish fillet was very soft and tender, but the rice wine sauce could be stronger as my taste buds can barely tasted it, still a good dish overall.Lastly, I had the sweet mango and pomelo soup for dessert, the sweet soup was tasty and not too sweet, but I would like to have more pomelo and mango cubes in the soup. The set lunch is a great deal for a 1 star Michelin star restaurant. Too bad it is only available on weekdays as I rarely come to this area.…Read More

Nice dim sum with a nice view
Toh Lee
2014-05-30
Went to Toh Lee for dim sum earlier this week. Most of the tables in the restaurant have a nice view of the Victoria Habour. It was a sunny day, so we had a nice view across the HK Island side.Spare ribs and chicken feet was ok, nothing special. I only had the spare ribs as I am not a fan of chicken feet.We also had minced pork dumplings. The minced pork filling was tender and juicy, but dumpling was very soft, not crispy at all, def not what I have in mind.Deep fried turnip pastry with crabmeat and black truffle. The pastry was very nice and crispy, while the turnip was still very sweet . The crabmeat and black truffle was very tasty and come together very well.Baked BBQ pork buns came with the crispy Mexican bun top. The bun was soft and hot while the BBQ pork filling was tender and juicy, the sauce was tasty and not too rich. The deep fried wonton was very crispy and not overdone. However, the shrimp inside seems abit overcooked and the dipping sauce was not tasty enough for me.We ordered baked red bean pastry for dessert. The pastry was nice with buttery taste, and the red bean paste was not too sweet. A nice way to end this tasty and filling biz lunch.…Read More

local taco joint
Mr Taco Truck
2014-05-20
Went to Mr Taco for a late lunch on the wkd. we ordered the supreme roast pork taco, mushroom quesadilla, and the steak burrito. the food arrived quickly after we ordered, the supreme roast pork taco was very tasty and the meat was juicy and tender. the guacamole was nice, goes well with the taco. i was surprised to find the mushroom quesadilla to my liking as well, as im usually not a real big fan of mushrooms. the beef burrito was a big bowl of rice with the salsa and other fresh ingredients. but the steak was abit chewy and tough, def not as tender or juicy as the roast pork.  however, there was no service at all, no one pay attention to us when we walked in adn we were left to get our own seats and find the menu ourselves. i will prob come back for the roast pork, but not the steak.…Read More

where is the star
Tosca
2014-05-20
had biz lunch here last wk. the ambience was nice but the food was not. ordered a 3 course set lunch. the bread was served on a plate with olive oil in the middle, it was all right but can't compare with the ones at Robuchon. the antipasti i picked was a white fish carpaccio, forgot what fish it was. i was disappointed when it was served as it looked like a plain white plate with nth much on it as the white fish was sitting on the white plate and abit of sauces and tomato here and there. the taste of fish carpaccio was very bland, and the other components didnt really elevate the taste of the fish.  i had oyster blade for main course, this is my first time eating oyster blade. the beef was not tender at all and kinda chewy, don't like it at all. i had tiramisu for dessert, and this was ok. not much view on that day as it was very cloudy.. can only see the cloud outside.. also heard a very loud thunder suddenly in the middle of a conversation. the lunch was disappointing, not sure why they got a star from Michelin this yr…Read More
