Cantonese beef and seafood hotpot
Niu Jing Wong
2019-11-02
One of the best from Hong Kong is their hotpot. Nothing fancy, just nice quality food. We came to Kowloon city for Cantonese hotpot dinner.Once we were seated, the waitress got us the sauces platter. From spring onion to chillies, soy sauce to sesame sauce, all in the rectangular box.Soup base is key to a nice hotpot. It doesn’t only add flavours to the food we boiled them in, it also makes it more nutritious! We picked the sea coconut, winter fungus and pork lung soup, which is good for the respiratory system. We ordered four different kinds of beef, which is what this place is specialised in.Angus beef soaked in chinese wine with roseVery strong wine which made the beef super aromatic! Anyone alcoholic would love it! Couldn’t really taste the rose though!Beef shankSliced really thin, only took 7-8 seconds to cook. Smart way to keep it tender.Ox tongueAlso sliced thin, giving it a more chewy yet light and fresh texture.BurdockCooked already, just have to reheat them to make them tender again. Well seasoned, chewy chewy!Seafood was a blast! We had 6 types of seafood for only $176 ($88/3). Short necked clam, Oyster, Abalone, Razor Clam, Geoduck and Surf clamLoved the razor clam best as it was gigantic and sweet! Must be very fresh!Oysters were huge as well, and it was very creamy with a strong salty ocean scent! We also had the freshwater eel. Rich in flavour, not fishy at all! It curled just fine after boiling for 10 seconds. Bamboo fungus has always been my favourite as its texture is spongy yet light and fresh and no other food could compare (up till now). It is also very nutritious! Packed with protein and amino acids!Soaked the honeycomb bean curd into the broth. Spongy as spongebob, it just absorbs every sweet scent of the broth! Savoury!!Don’t forget to drink some more soup when you are done. All the nutrients are in there!…Read More

Quality Sushi Don
Yume no don
2019-10-27
We love Japanese food!! Before going to HKU, we had a lovely dinner at Sai Wan, near the HKU station. It is a newly opened Japanese restaurant, serving sashimi on rice and skewers and Japanese grills and snacks. We came at around 7pm and there wasn’t much people. We were lucky enough to get a table! More customers would come after 730pm! So grab your table or book a table! The environment was cozy and filled with Japanese tavern style. Spacious and relaxed. The signature is their Don of Dream.Came with soup and salad. Offering jumbo spot prawn, jumbo scallop, minced salmon, minced toro with spring onion, salmon roe, and crab meat, the presentation was very appealing and the sashimi was super fresh! Loved the prawn! Sweet and savoury! And the minced salmon and toro were prefect for the sushi rice, which was prepared with aka su, ie Japanese red vinegar for rice, pairing them made a brand-new experience with sushi don!I also ordered eel skewer. It was grilled to perfection when the eel fat melts, giving the skewer its savouring smell and not greasy at all!My friend had Toro Don.She shared some supreme toro with me. It was really fulfilling with the fat and meat melted in your mouth! If you eat it with the aka su sushi rice, it made it even more satisfying! The fish oil completely blended in with the sushi rice and making both even sweeter! She also had raw egg soaked with soy sauce. If you mix it with the sushi rice, you would find the rice was elevated into a whole new level of satisfaction! All in all, I would recommend this restaurant for people would love sushi don and who look for quality and special don!…Read More

Superb seafood
Deluxe King Japanese Restaurant
2019-05-17
This is the best seafood all-you-can-eat in Mong Kok so far as I had tried.Their seafood were just fresh and offered a lot more choices than the others in the area.So first, the environment. It was very impressive to see how smart they arranged the seats for making privacy work within the limited room. Also, some decorations making it more Japanese!First, sushi! Tiny to keep you room for other food while quality (esp. the yellow tail sushi) never compromised.Clams cooked with Sake. The sake was actually a lot more appealing! With the sweetness of clams in the sake-soup,I drank it, bottoms up!Seafood pot. Mostly everything (all seafood) one could expect were in the pot! Making the best, sweetest, savouring seafood broth ever! See how big the crab was?! AMAZING!!So here is the best part! Crab Brown Meat Miso Yakiniku! Basically with all the brown meat of the crab mixed with miso, grilled until cooked. Richness could not be described with words. Best served with rice.Other food availableStir-fried! Love the heavy-tasted chinese-kinda sauce! A punch at the taste-buds!Conch - already picked the meat out, save you a lot of work!Mushrooms, sweet!! Guess they added butter to it! What's better?!Chocolate (Lava) cake, small yet enough to satisfy your sweet tooth.…Read More

Korean and Japanese all-you-can-eat
Kobe Fusion Restaurant
2019-05-16
Having dinner in Mong Kok is ever the easiest decision to make. When with guys, who are always hungry, all-you-can-eat is the best choice one could make. Besides the food, service is always my concern, and I found it very satisfying here!Serving Korean and Japanese cuisine, from sashimi, sushi, hotpot to ginseng chicken soup, braised beef ribs, you name it!Sashimi Platter with over 16 choices, including over 4 kinds of shrimp/prawn! Sushi Platter, over 20 choices and I especially loved the giant  scallops and seared salmon!Rolls - Japanese and Korean rolls! Korean roll was a vegetarian choice! As a health advocacy, salad is a must! (but after my sashimi and sushi crave!)Grilled Ox Tongue, super juicy and chewy! Marinated with Korean spices!Grilled Prawn, quite nice! Not small, in fact it was "meaty" - in the sense of "prawn".Cheese flamed Prawn! So cheese-sy! Creamy and super fulfilling (and evil too!)Onsen Egg - so runny! Served with dried shrimps and sesame sauce!Chicken Skewer with heavy gravy, the Japanese favourite!Hotpot! Surprise Surprise! Hongkongnese binlo! Many choices of vegetables for feeling less guilty after the big feast!Service was superb! They would suggest you to try different type of food and know what you have tried! Making sure you are not missing any goodies!…Read More

Cantonese Lunch
Lung Mun Cafe
2019-05-04
We used to hang around in Causeway Bay. Now it’s getting more busy with more visitors and we seldom come here. Today we came meeting a friend back from Canada and she suggested some Cantonese food so we just came to this newly opened Cha chan tang. It’s just behind Timesquare, so it is pretty convenient for shoppers. We had sets so soup and salad are offered.I also ordered a cold drink, iced coffee, and it was quite good, surprise!!She had the truffle spaghetti. It was a bit dry but with quite generous amount of truffle! Cream wasn’t heavy, though we preferred it rich.Chicken steak and egg omelette. This is truly Cantonese and she was quite satisfied with it as it reminded her of her good old days before fleeing to Canada.Attached with some menu photos for your references if you would like to come as well!…Read More

romantic afternoon tea
La Famille
2019-03-14
Just finished shopping at Yiu Wa Street. Passed by 'la famille', hey, it's time for tea! The cafe was cosy and warm, u could just relax there.I ordered a piece of hazelnut coffee chiffon cake, lychee raspberry bavarois and a cup of hot matcha latte. There were neither artificial flavorings nor colouring in them. The cake was moist and soft, lightly sweet, the fragrant of hazelnut and coffee was so rich and aromatic. Some petals and diced fruit were added into the jelly layer of the bavarois, which made it look very beautiful and attractive. The tiny petals gave forth a pleasant fragrance, and the fruit was fresh. They tasted so 'romantic' The matcha latte went well with both of them. Thank you, la famille. You lightened up my afternoon. 'I will be back❤'…Read More

Random shanghainese restaurant
Xia Fei Shanghaiese
2019-01-16
Had heard of this before but never tried it!There are mostly western restaurants in Stanley, and this is one of the two I saw for Chinese food (p.s. and the only shanghainess one).It was super hot so we only ordered appetisers and soup.Crystal-pork (Jelly-O pork)It was a bit too salty, but overall was okay. The pork flicks were firmly sticked together by the jelly which was the collagen of the pork broth itself after hours of boiling.Drunken ChickenPut into the Chinese Yellow Wine for hours, or probably overnight, the chicken pieces were soaked with alcohol, just that the meat was not tender enough and it was a bit disappointing. Plus, also a bit too salty.…Read More

Not as I had expected
Law Fu Kee
2019-01-09
Central most renowned wunton noodles (they offer congee as well)! Had never been here before even I have been working in Central for years.Long queue is always outside the restaurant during lunchtime but the wait isn't that long! (afterall, it wouldn't take long for a bowl of noodles or congee)Chiu-Chau Fried Fish BallsThis is the side dish that is so popular here, one of their signature dishes! The fish balls were made with real fish even with the fish bones which were finely crushed and mixed into the fish flicks, and they just never hurt!It was deep-fried, served hot but not quite greasy. Well done!Special sauce was served along. It was quite salty and smelled strong. Went well with this fish balls.Wonton NoodlesHow could one miss this Wonton noodles!? It is the best seller here! The Wonton skin was thin enough and had quite a high ratio of shrimp: pork. But the pork wasn't as fresh and tasty as I imagined. The noodles were with some alkaline smell - the smell of memory! Just like the good old daysAlthough the Wonton was not as good as expected, the overall is good.Would recommend to those would want a taste of local traditional noodles.…Read More

The original is the best
Sweets House Cha Cha
2018-12-20
My friend is a big fan of matcha soft serve, especially Chacha. This is the first time he took me here. He said he usually picks the original matcha soft serve with the matcha custard filled Dai Pun Siu (japanese cake). But this time, we had wanted to try the most prestige one, i.e. the matcha soft serve with big waffle, matcha moji, Matcha jelly and a concentrated matcah syrup. The soft serve was just the one that we normally have. Ratio of milk/cream and matcha at a great balance, sweetness just right. Everything was just balanced! The jelly was quite tasteless, which was disappointing.Waffle went soft and moist when we started to eat it after finishing the soft serve.I would say, just pick the normal one to get everything right.…Read More

Good value lunch buffet!
Assaggio Trattoria Italiana
2018-12-20
There are not much food near this area of Wan Chai. The other choices are either at Hyatt or Renaissance Hotel.  My friend bought me here, she said this is so much more causal than the other restaurants and the food is good.So we got a table during the busiest lunch hour - i.e. 1pm. It was spacious! I don't mean there were no customers, rather 85% of the tables are full, leaving those at the door, but there were enough space between tables. You could talk to your friends privately while not feeling empty at all. They served semi-buffet lunch. You could choose your mains e.g. risotto, pizza, lamp rack, etc. but I think salad bar and dessert bar is quite enough.I loved their cheese fondue! Just pour some of those on your bread and it would be a sin not to have another piece! There were also 2 other cheeses available at the salad bar: mozzarella and (a slided cheese that I could not recall its name). Both are of good quality and I personally preferred the mozzarella more. Mild yet the richness of milk just overloaded!Soup offered was veggie soup. Basically people just rushed for it and there was nearly no more when I reached the pot!More greens available! Great for vegetarians/vegans.The grilled fish was rather dry and hard. Could only afford a tiny bite.Fruits for dessert!!Added a risotto. The was so creamy with pink shrimps. We shared but it was a bit heavy that we could not finish it (it was good, just that we were toofull from the buffet for it )…Read More

Tea better than lunch?
WIRED green
2018-12-20
We didn't have any ideas what to eat. We were in K-11 and running out ideas, we decided to sit in anywhere that got free seats. Not much people in here so we just popped in.It was offering lunch sets (it was a Sunday). We had the eel and egg don bowl with hot wudon noodles and salad & appetiser.vDrink included.I would say the eel and egg was not quite what I had expected. The eel was not like those we usually have but still acceptable. Did not like the egg. Tasteless!Wudon noodles were just some rice dough to us. We didn't like it AT ALL.I knew they offer dessert as well, and I think that is what they are good at. It was a bad idea to have lunch here. Afternoon tea would be a wiser choice.…Read More

The Hot and Spicy!
Liu Yi Shou Chong Qing Hot Pot
2018-12-20
There's a hit in the spicy hotpot and we tried that out as well! (Following the trend!)This is by far one of the best service spicy hotpot restaurant I had visited. The waitresses were so nice that they would teach you how to enjoy the food and what combinations customers should choose. They also knew the menu well. Recommendations were great, they knew what the food was and how they tasted and explained well to the customers. They offered lunch sets but we went for the hotpot. But as the waitresses had strongly recommended us to try the lunch sets for good value, we ordered crab meat with cold noodles as well. This is the lunch set - cold noodles. It came with a sauce but to avoid it turning too spicy, we only added little. It was nice if you had too much spicy hotpot and wanted some balance. We were worried that it would be too spicy, so we had 2 soups at the same time.Beef balls and dumplingsNothing special for the beef balls but the dumplings were nice. Not much fatty minced pork, rather thin skin! LIKE!Spicy beef slidesLoved this super much. I wouldn't say it was spicy, the spices were just added more flavour to it and the 'spicy hot' was to attributed to the soup really. Not much taste of the beef though (maybe too much spice?)Pork blood in Goose intestinesThis was a funny one. We tried this because of the interesting design.Quite surprised, the goose intestines were thin and without no extra fat! Very interesting texture!Sweet soupThey called it the ice jelly. Basically some jelly in cold syrup with goji and sesame, to calm you after the excitingly spicy hotpot …Read More

Had been wandering in Causeway Bay for food for half an hour on that Sunday afternoon but everywhere was crowded with people. We wanted somewhere less noisy and more cozy, like a small little restaurant. We lost hope in Lee Gardens and Hysan place (too many people and difficult to get a table - don't get me wrong, the food there were usually nice). This small little Thaifood, opposite to Lee Garden One, was not the superstar there. We popped in just because there were not much people. So how's the food? I ordered the Tom Yam soup noodle with egg and duck slidesSoup was not super spicy, yet exciting enough.Love the rice noodles, so smooth and nice texture.Soft-boiled egg, very fulfilling egg yolk.Duck slides were a bit overcooked, lost its tenderness. After all, it was just $60-ish in the bust CWB district, what could you expect?…Read More

It was 4pm on a weekday and there was not much people in the restaurant. We were seated and the waitress quickly served us the menu. My friend ordered baked spaghetti and I ordered my waffle with jam.My friend had her spaghetti served after 15 mins and quickly finished it in 15 mins. But my waffle was still no where to be seen!I asked if the waffle was ready, if not, I would just leave it. The waitress then said it was ordered already and could not cancel it.After another 10 mins wait, I got my waffle finally. It was quite a small piece, with one corner cut (so disappointed you know?!).The texture was not bad, smell of butter was subtle. Moist in the inside and crunchy on the outside, so it was alright. The long wait was not quite worth it though.…Read More

Didn’t have time to eat at all, so I decided to have a big meal.Just spotted this restaurant from the MTR exit and as there was no people (it was 2pm, after the busy lunch hour) so I went in.They offered sushi and sashimi rice, tempura and grilled food.I picked the teppanyaki lunch set, with a choice of two meat from the list and with fried rice and vegetables.Teppanyaki beef and chickenThe beef was still juicy, quite chewy, I bet it was a lean cut. Not heavily seasoned, which I liked, so that the beefyyy taste could stood out.Chicken was a bit too much seasoned though. Most of the Teppanyaki chicken would be prepared in this way, so I couldn't complain.Liked the fried rice and vegetables! Light with great flavour. Savoury!Just $200 for lunch to enjoy teppanyaki, what could you ask for?…Read More
