EXTREMELY Not Hygenic!!!
Itamae Sushi
2006-08-22
Many people said that it is much more cleaner and safer for a sushi chef to wear gloves when preparing sushi/sashimi. This, however, is the very opposite case. When I got there at 10:30 pm, there was still a small crowd waiting for seats outside, but I don't have to since I was only one person. When seated, noticed that all the chefs wore gloves. Whether they were preparing rice, cutting fish, pressing sushi, washing pans, picking up dirt from the floor, opening and closing cabinets, etc etc. The worst part of it was they never wash their hands/gloves afterwards. Imagine, if you were not with gloves, and if you have something on your hand, you would notice and wash them off, but the problem with gloves is that you do not feel anything on your hands. The chefs wore the SAME pair of gloves for the whole evening without changing them. haha.....wonder how many people would got sick???? I only had an order of hirame sashimi and I lost my appetite totally and called for my bill and left.Conclusion....wearing gloves would only be clean provided if you change them often and wash them as if your own hands.…Read More

This Place is a Joke!
Le Parisien
2006-06-24
- G - is right, it's not French at all. I would say it's in between HK fusion and continental cuisine. However, no matter what cuisine you are, as long as it tastes good, service good with good ambience, then it will be ok.Service was terrible during both lunch and dinner and it was not busy at all.Food - any HK-style westernized restaurants would do better.Ambience - in core central, what can you say?!…Read More

Not Consistent!!
Ching Ting Vietnam Restaurant
2006-06-24
The service standard of this restaurant is above average - quite efficient both for drinks and cooked dishes.Went there a few times and each time the quality of the beef noodles (Pho) was not consistent. Sometimes you got tough and chewy beef, other times you got bland tasteless soup, or the soup was not hot or even worse was that the noodles were too thick and rough.Spring rolls the same case - batter not crispy and the deep fried oil they used should be really really hot so as to get rid of the excess oil before presenting to customers.I would recommend ordering the dishes one by one as the size of the table is incredibly tiny - only 16 inches in width.I prefer their taste when they were still at the old location across the street. …Read More

OK la But not so hygenic
Perfume River Restaurant

The food at this place is average and ok but it is quite a greasy restaurant and some of the plates need to be more clean. The upstair mezzanine floor is even worse. Require some heavy clean up actions.…Read More

The King of MSG Wonton Noodles
Fu Shing Family Noodle
2006-06-23
Just had afternoon tea and ordered a bowl of wonton noodles as it claimed to be their signature dish - $15 per bowl all day.Comments as such:Soup: Way too much MSG and pepper made the soup tastes like spicy soupSoup base: Too wateryWonton: Wrapping was too think, prawns not fresh.Portion: Good portionPresentation: GoodTemperature: Not hot enough (referring to the soup base)Other comments: Chili sauce should also include Yu Kwan Yick. After the meal, extremely thirsty and tired. Why? Poisoned by MSG.......Tried once is enough, strangely though, it is still better than next door Wing Wah.…Read More

Suprisingly Good Chili Crabs
Choi Kee Chili Crab
2006-06-20
This place is never pretentious, you will miss the entrance as it is located right next to a fast food take away shop. Opens till 4am and begins dinner at around 6pm.We had the chili crab first and ordered super spicy. Standard price - 250-260 for small and 280 for a larger sized crab. The crab was rightly done, meat was tender and timing was just right. The waiter is a no-nonsense guy, don't even dare to bother him during his meal time at around 10:30pm, such a character. The environment is better than most of the other chili crab place.Their pigeon was nicely prepared and we noticed that many customers tried their Lai Liu Har, really large in size.…Read More

Voted Best Japanese Rest In HK
Nadaman (Island Shangri-La) (One Pacific Place)
2006-06-19
This place is no doubt the best Japanese restaurant in HK, especially, their teppanyaki section. all the chefs are skilled in what to are cooking.Best show is if u don't like oil, the whole meal could be done without a hint of oil, but only oil from the meat itself and other food items. Really healthy and oishi!!Their sushi/sashimi not bad either, sitting at tables or sushi counter (of course, sushi counter is the best place for sushi as u can get crispier nori - temaki and maki). I think it's much better than Kenjo in TST. Ambience is better, it's less greasier..The only comment I would say is that they are a bit understaffed in particular to the number of teppanyaki chefs versus number of tables. Great service extended by the floor staff.…Read More

A Great Place for MSG lovers
Shanghai Noodle Shop
2006-06-19
Their San Jin Bao and Wo Teep tastes ok, Chi Fan was also ok. However, if their Dou Cheung could be a bit thicker with more beans to water, result would have been better. After the meal, my body was really tired and extremely thirsty, a result and symptom of too much MSG intake.…Read More

Overly Pretentious - Low Food Quality
Avenue Joffre
2006-06-17
This place has picked a good location otherwise it should be out of business a long long time ago.Waiters/waitresses/ even managers are not well-trained. They don't even know how to open a bottle of wine in a correct manner.Food quality is really low, too westernised shanghainese cuisine. For that price I would definitely be more enjoyable at Old Shanghai (Lao Shang Hai Restaurant) in Century Hotel in Wanchai so that I can have a peace of mind enjoying traditional and yummy Shanghainese food.…Read More

Much better than Wanchai branch
Al Dente
2006-06-17
the atmosphere and location is much much better than their new one in Wanchai on Jaffe Road. Business is not good either even during lunch time. The chef owner is from Bangladesh and I must have my hats off for him to do a wonderful Italian cooking. Don't know if he's also good at curry??…Read More

Not Worth The Long Wait
Itamae Sushi
2006-06-16
My other half and his colleagues wanted to have sushi, we ended waited for a long time. Here's my comments:Sushi Rice: The vinegar is not evenly mixed together and u get one portion sour than the rest. Some of the chefs did not have proper training as to how to make good sushi rice, some made it too hard others too loose.Eel-Unagi - It was pre-cooked when delivered to them, so all they did was to reheat the eel. Which is easy to do and should not be bad, however, our pieces were not even warm and texture was tough.Egg - Tamago - to tell a Japanese restaurant if they are good or not, apart from trying their sushi/sashimi is to try out their tempura and tamago. If the tamago is not made by themself or has been poorly prepared, that restaurant has to be a bad one. As for this place, the portion of eggs versus water is not right, should put in more eggs.In my personal views, one ended up not cheap and for that amount, the quality is not value for money at all. There are better choices in the vicinity.…Read More

Great Food & Service
發記飯店
2006-06-15
This place is quite unique where you can park your car in front of the restaurant, or I shall say, you can actually triple park your car. But beware, weekends are usually quite full. It opens till 2 am though. All staff and I believe some of them are all related. For example, the bald guy, call San Gor, great service who always wears a smiling face, other staff are also ok.Food wise, good taste. Not just Chiu Chow but also some Shanghainese like Fried Shanghai Noodles, quite good and you can also ask them to not put too much oil or HIN and skip the MSG also.Fried FU GUAR was also nice. Ask them to have them fried half portion raw and the other half portion put in cooked one and skip the HIN part.LO SHUI DOU FU was good and was the goose wings.Having a few bottles of beer by the road side and enjoy the dishes slowly one by one was very enjoyable indeed.…Read More

Decor is nice but food is not
Rice Paper
2006-06-15
This place tries to do fusion Vietnamese, but I just don't know what's missing in the food. The presentation is alright but the taste is a bit bland. Service is alright also. Sometimes if they could just go back to the basics in cooking food is better than trying fusion cooking also.Vietnamese cuisine is difficult to go up market as the ingredients are so cheap, that's why if charging too much would have adverse results.…Read More

This place is LAP SAP!!
郎田日本料理
2006-06-15
A friend of mine also tried their Causeway Bay shop, which is again, totally unacceptable. They tried to compete with the other all you can eat Japanese restaurant at Empire Hotel Kowloon, but failed. The one at Empire Hotel was way better, both food and environment. They are charging $150 per head with over 100 food items to choose from plus shabu shabu. Sushi was very fresh and delicate.I think if this restaurant really needs to compete with other Japanese restaurants or any restaurants in HK, they have to really think about improving the quality of food, charging a bit more, employing more experienced waiters/waitresses/chefs is the only way to go forward to. Otherwise, it's meaningless to have only one time customers.…Read More

This is a consistent restaurant
Ginza Japanese Restaurant
2006-06-15
Tried out their sushi and sashimi the other night, it was just as good as ten years back. the chefs were the same, though some of them have put on a bit of weight in recent years.Still got a good selection of fish and seasonal items. Techniques of chefs were still the same, very well-trained. Nice view of the harbour when sitting at the sushi counter. Attitude of sushi chefs was good as they knew how to please and take care of their customers. This place for sure is more friendlier than Hiro Sushi. Just by staring at the stiff neck owner who was without smile makes one appetite disappears.…Read More
