Stunning Brunch in Contemporary French Style
Madam Sixty Ate
2012-03-24
It’s actually one of the restaurants on my list which I would like to pay a visit for loooong. I appreciate and admire the contemporary French cuisine. It was quite comfy that I paid my first visit here for brunch during weekend. I had chosen the seats close to the window. The price range for Madam’s Weekend Brunch is from HKD60+ to HKD190+. We two girls had chosen three courses and one dessert. The portion of dish here is not that big actually, it’s quite tiny in size but decent in look. Let’s start from the compressed fruits salad (HKD85+10%). I simply adored its presentation; the color matching was right and attractive. The fruits tasted gorgeous with vanilla yoghurt. My favorite pomegranate and basil granita decorated well on aside. The following dish of Chorizo and White sausage (HKD90+10%) were very juicy, a little bit salty though. The sausages were served with baked beans, they were quite oily indeed. This is not my favorite dish, since I am not really fancy too oily fatty stuff. The last course of cured Salmon, egg benedict & meat ball (HKD110 +10%) is my favorite. It used the right plate and looked so neat! Personally I like eating egg benedicts. When you broke the egg yolk and it melt softly on the cured Salmon, tasted absolutely stunning! The meat ball tasted so juicy and the smell of butter just came out smoothly when you cut it! I liked the spinach with crunchy hollandaise on top of the whole dish, simply decorative and artistic. After finishing the above, we had shared our dessert - the Gingerbread & apples (HKD85+10%). It looked so artistically stunning! I liked the taste of cinnamon parfait matched well with Calvados sorbet. Both of them tasted really good!. Finished with the taste of green grapes, apple compote and crisp matzoh, made the whole impression so refreshing! Indeed, it's really positive for my first visit and I had good impression towards Madam Sixty Ate. I would definitely consider to return and give a try to other options here, I see many interesting names on the menu which interested me to try them all :)Besides, staffs here are really friendly, cheerful and talkative. Keep the spirit up and it really inspires the customers a lot!…Read More

Nice environment for Friends' Gathering Dinner
Otto Restaurant & Bar
2012-03-24
Looking for a nice restaurant which suits for friends gathering, I randomly found this Italian restaurant from internet. L' Hart, the newly hip building for contemporary cuisines in Causeway Bay. It’s my first time to check out this new building, I paid a visit to the Italian restaurant on 25/F, the Otto Restaurant and Bar. When I first arrived here, I was like ‘WoW’. It looked so cozy, silent and romantic, scored points! We were arranged to a table which was closed to the window, too bad the curtain covered the view that we couldn’t enjoy the night view of Causeway Bay. It is quite nice that Otto doesn’t have any time restriction for dining, so it provides a very nice environment for friends gathering. You could sit there as long as you want. We had ordered the dinner set for four courses (HKD328 + 10%). It includes the starter, the appetizer, the main course and the dessert. The starters were about the salad with salmon and salami cold cut. Tasted standard but not really special. The appetizer was about the mushroom soup. Rich in mushroom taste, creamy soup but it was way too salty in general. The speed of delivering dishes was too fast. I informed the waiter to slow down a bit. we were still ‘enjoying’ our soup and salad while the other courses were coming… The following dishes were about the vegetable ravioli and Risotto. The vegetable ravioli with spinach in cream sauce tasted really rich but slightly salty. Didn't taste natural. Risotto with mushroom and caviar tasted savory! It was unexpectedly right in temperature and creamy in texture! The main courses were about the grilled Sirloin and Turbot fillet. The fish was way too salty. Sirloin tasted standard but not too fresh. I think they put way too much mixed sauces on side, which’s actually not necessary. Less is More! Dessert was quite disappointing! A mini glass of strawberry moose. Tasted standard but not impressive… Overall, if you’re looking for a good environment for family dinner, friends gathering, dating etc. It’s the right place, very cozy and comfy while not the noisy kind at all. However, the quality of food here is really not reaching my standard. Especially I don’t like them putting too much salt inside each dish to bring out the taste, which is not necessary at all. Less is More!…Read More

The First and the Last time
Dap Modern European Restaurant
2012-03-24
Under a special occasion, we could enjoy a buffet dinner at the price $248+10% per person at DAP. Seeing the comments here are quite positive, which give me confidence to pay a visit. Surprised me that I had to make reservation for a table by three weeks eariler (since the dates I proposed were ALL FULL), I wonder it must be a very popular restaurant? The first impression when I arrived the first floor of DAP, a strong terrible smell was spread out from toilet, which just locates at the end of the narrow corridor outside the restaurant. I wondered if the outside condition is such horrible, how good the quality of the food could be in the restaurant? We were settled in a separate room in DAP, which looks quite sophisticated actually. I adore the Victorian style in the house. The semi dinner buffet is actually about unlimited filling of appetizers, desserts and wines. You could only choose one main course from the provided list. To be honest, it’s actually quite disappointing of the limited choices for appetizer and dessert (I couldn’t eat too much though). Moreover, the speed of refilling is horribly slow... this strategy of DAP is smart. It claimed as ‘buffet’ but actually it is quite limited. The Salad green tasted fine, but that’s nothing to deal with the cooking skill of the Chefs from DAP. Fishes sashimi tasted ordinary, at least they were clean and not stink. I think the Shrimp cocktail is fairly good out of the rest, shrimp tasted simply fresh. We had chosen roasted lamb and fried cod fish for our main courses. The lamb tasted good with the balsamic gravy, it’s well cooked that the texture of lamb is soft. The cod fish is my choice, it’s soft like melting. Too bad it’s a bit too small in piece though. The cod fish tasted fabulously gorgeous with the lemon butter sauce. Nice! The environment here is actually not too bad but the quality of food is just a big contrast. The service here is also a big contrast. I see some whole-hearted friendly staffs while some are really arrogant and cool. I wouldn’t comment much how worst they were, you should check out and experience by yourself. I heard that quite a no. of staffs here are part-time base. Perhaps this’s one of the reasons why they didn’t work enthusiastically. Well, to conclude, main courses here are acceptable but for the parts of 'buffet' were ordinary and disappointing. Heard that the original price for this dinner is HKD500+. It must be kidding me cuz it totally doesn't worth the price and not reaching that level yet. Now we pay HKD200+ per person is just fairly acceptable. …Read More

The Contemporary Chinese Afternoon Tea
Lobby Lounge
2012-03-01
Knowing the InterCon is promoting the chinese style afternoon tea – the Red Box ($488+10% for two), which is the greatest production of Michelin one starred restaurant –Yan Toh Heen. It interested me to give a try! You know, it’s common to have western style afternoon tea everywhere, but Chinese style afternoon tea ? I’d never tried before. Before the Red Box arriving, I had ordered the Calendula tea for tasting. The Calendula beauty was wrapped within the jasmine tea leaves. It’s burst with the pleasing fragrance and flavour of light jasmine tea. I simply like the way it was supposed to be. Similar to western style afternoon tea, the Red Box contains 3 layers (boxes). It serves the savoury chinese pastries from salty taste to sweet taste. Lets check out the first layer, it contains three kinds of hot salty Chinese pastries. I particularly like the freshness of golden Scallops with minced Shrimp and fresh Pear. The mini tartlette of sliced Abalone with mushroom tasted fabulous as well. It looks sophisticated with the eaten gold on top. The golden Crab claw with minced Shrimp is deep fried in a right temperature yet not too oily, nice! The second & third layers are all about the hot & cold sweet Chinese pastries. From the hot pastries, I especially like the Citrus cake the most. It tastes spectacular, sweet & sour at the same time. The crispy Sesame dumplings with custard cream tastes superb. It looks very delicate. From the cold pastries, The Coconut Almond custard with imperial bird’s nest and eaten gold taste awesome! Simply like the taste of bird’s nest matched excellent with the taste of Coconut Almond custard! I like the glutinous rose rice dumpling which stuffed with diced mango and mashed sweetened green beans inside. It’s decorated with a small piece of rose, very gorgeous and lovely. I like the Chinese tea set here; the pastries are not extremely sweet nor oily, very suitable for elderly. Also, I adore how delicate the chef made the pastries to be, very creative Chinese set! Having afternoon tea here is very relaxing. InterCon provides live band performance, which mostly plays the folk music. One of the songs they played was « Love Story», it is my favourite song of Taylor Swift ! I didn’t expect they would have such up-to-date song, thumb up ! …Read More

Sweet End the Night - Coeur de Champagne
agnès b. le pain grillé
2012-02-17
The St. Valentine's Day is held on Tuesday this year. Since it’s not an official public holiday, we’re more willing to have the ‘pre-vday’ dinner in weekend than the exact day. We started planning since early Feb. I didn’t expect it would be such difficult. My ideal restaurants were either fully booked or only provided vday menu on the exact day (which means no ‘pre vday menu’). Finally, I came up with Agnès b. Unlike the others, Agnès b provided the celebrating menu ($1680+10% service charge for two persons) from February 6th to 14th. We decided to go on Sat evening.Oh my… I was bewitched by its beautiful decoration of the entrance when we arrived the Agnès b. le pain grillé. Embracing by the shining plants on both sides, Agnès b brings out the strong Parisian romantic atmosphere; it reminds me the avenue des Champs-Élysées (The most beautiful avenue in Paris). We settled in a nice corner with the view of the HK skyline. We first received our ‘welcome cocktails’ before the dinner started. The cocktail was mixed up by Gin, Mint and Milk. My partner said it tasted fine but I didn’t really fancy it, simply I dislike milk mixed with gin… it’s Vday celebration, I was hoping the ‘welcome cocktails’ would be somewhat like cosmopolitan, rose wine, sparkling champagne, etc. A bit disappointed at this point indeed. The appetizerz arrived, actually both of them adopted similar ingredients but presented differentiatedly. I chose this one for mine, they twisted the salmon marinated into rose shape, served with red beetroot, crab meat, blinis, dill sour cream. Tasted pale but looked so delicate. The other one is the salmon & crab meat tartlet with capsicum & lemon, which seasoned with lobster mayonnaise. Well, simply like the tartlet tasted fabulous and nice decoration with flower on a side. Following dishes were about smoked duck breast & duck foie gras. The one terrine on warm green lentil salad looked absolutely adorable with its heart shape. The poached salted duck breast marinated stuffed with foie gras were served with four spice, tasted differently according to different layers, nice! Afterwards the turn of seafood flavors~ Poached lobster & scallop salad served with tomato, cucumber, baby leek & spring onion in lemon vinaigrette tasted absolutely refreshing! Lobster meat was very juicy! The grilled lobster & scallop with lemon braised fennel, comfit lemon, spring onion & sweet chili tasted better, simply like its sweet and sour flavors at the same time! The main course of meat steak with truffle came accordingly. The beef wellington with truffle, served with parsnip gratin looked nice! Not over cooked while soft in the ‘heart’, thumb up! The roasted capon roulade with truffle, served with crisp potato millefeuille & celeriac mousseline tasted so-so. Not really impressive and I didn’t really enjoy the crisp potato millefeuille. The dessert was the soul of the night! I was so looking forward to trying the signature Coeur de champagne (cake of champagne) from Agnès b. The jelly top was made by Taittinger champagne, tasted fragrantly sweet. The body was made by champagne mousse, white peach mousse and vanilla sponge cake. The sponge cake with champagne moose tasted soft and smooth. It was placed on a plate with the decorating chocolate words ‘Happy Anniversary’ and served with mixed berries. The chef also used strawberry jam to draw a heart shape on the plate! I was like ‘Wow’ when I first saw the dessert. Very beautiful and touching! I would never forget this taste of L.O.V.E.Well, if you want to go for a romantic dinner, it’s one of the choices you can think about within the IFC area. Simply adore its Parisian design and atmosphere. Especially the corridor in front of the entrance, you must not miss it. Apart from it, I appreciate the nice and thoughtful service from the staffs here. Very professional and friendly. …Read More

Pampered Our Palate with a Great Seafood Dinner
Congress Restaurant
2012-02-17
We had pampered our palate with a great seafood dinner at Congress Restaurant last Oct.Thanks to its natural advantages of a mild climate, rich coastal seas and fertile soils, New Zealand is recognized as one of the cities for finest seafood and agricultural products . Heard that Congress Restaurant was promoting the “New Zealand Seafood Dinner Buffet”, no hesitation, we decided to go and gave a try!It was great that we were arranged to settle near the harbour. We could enjoy the stunning view of Victoria Harbour while consuming the enticing cuisine. such as: New Zealand Abalone Carpaccio, Sautéed Southern Clam with White Wine, Barbecued Lamb Chop and Zucchini Roulade, Queen Scallop. Apart from seafood, I was flattered by the juicy duck foie gras. It tasted absolutely gorgeous! I was impressed. The seafood dinner buffet costs $428+10% per person, however, they offer 20% discount by purchase 6 dinner buffets or more. As a result, we could enjoy $370+ this special price. For such reasonable price could enjoy the world class quality of seafood, it worths the money! …Read More

The True Romance to be Remembered
Dialogue in the Dark Exhibition Centre
2012-02-15
For celebrating the Valentine’s day, except going for a ‘decent’ dinner or receiving ‘fancy’ presents, what else can we do? This day, I took spontaneous off from work and experienced something differently!I see many comments here introducing its programme about dining in the dark, actually the Dialogue in the Dark(DiD) also provides some other nice programmes. One of them is about the journey to tour in the dark. I am not gonna describe the journey in details, so as to keep its secret and attract your coming. But I would like to share one part of the whole journey, which you would experience to buy drinks/ snacks in the dark. Ignore the appearance and taste of the drinks/ snacks, instead, feel them by your ‘heart’. You would experience something different… it’s something more than just the taste, it’s about the enthusiasm and sincerity. It was a great experience that my partner had joined me for this great adventure. We both enjoyed it. It also became our good memory that we could learn to rely on each other in the dark. It’s a good lesson to teach the couples nowadays. It makes you realize and treasure what you have in presence. Experience worths thousands of words, if you are seeking for something somewhere meaningful and memorable to celebrate your Valentine’s day, you could think about to come over next year!…Read More

Love the Salad from the Petit Café
The Petit Café
2012-02-12
If you like Deli & Wine, you would definitely like the Petit Café. No doubt, both of them are running under the same company - Maxim Group. Embracing by the green pastures, the Petit Café locates on the podium floor at PP with the theme of flowery garden, I’ve been told that Mediterranean & European Salad is the ‘must try item’ here. A random Saturday afternoon, after shopping at Ted Baker in PP, I came over for a try. I ordered one medium size salad ($48) and one chamomile tea (I forgot the exact amount, ard $20+). For the salad, you could choose several tastes from the salad bar. A normal medium size salad is actually big enough that you’d definitely feel full after finishing it. So it’s not necessary for you to go for the large size ($68). I chose to dine outdoor and could see through the floor-to-ceiling glass of the café. I enjoyed the view. I like the red quinoa rice salad, which is surprisingly tasty and healthy! The pasta in pesto sauce also tasted good but ordinary to me. The floral tea tasted refreshingly lovely. I also adored the floral design of the paper cup, so elegant and fascinated! My overall feeling towards this café is really positive. J’adore la Petit Café! After it, I ordered two boxes of salad for all tastes and took away for dinner, which costed $96 only! After unpacking at home, I presented them on my plate. (Yes, please be noted that the plate is from mine but not provided by the Petit Café. Hope it would not mislead people to go there for a takeaway version like mine.) Back to the salad, Beetroots are sauced in special way and I simply loved them. the waitress didn’t give me much quinoa rice salad in portion apparently, instead she gave me so MUCH corns. Next time I would simply skip the corns, which I actually not really into. I’ve tried all tastes from the salad bar of Petit Café. I highly recommend the quinoa rice! I keep raising this name from time to time, simply I like its freshness and healthiness. …Read More

The Place to Indulge in Leisure Out of Office
Deli and Wine
2012-02-12
I have good impression of the one locates in TST. Knowing the new one just opened not long ago in Taikoo, no doubt I’d give a try! The dish of chicken steak with rice in mushroom sauce ($50) tasted rich and concentrated. Also, I like thed crispy skin of chicken steak that it being fried well. The linguini with prawns in tomato sauce and a piece of crunchy bread ($68) tasted fabulous! The size of prawns was absolutely big enough, ingredients were fresh, thumb up! The baked pork steak with rice in tomato sauce served with fried egg ($65) tasted nice and fresh though; the quality still not reaches the level of $60+ as priced. We think it’s slightly over-priced.. Spaghetti with spicy seafood ($68) was unexpectedly small in portion. It’s served with a piece of bread though, still couldn’t compare to the rest, a bit disappointed… I like the coffee here by the way. Especially the Cappuccino with de Caffeine (+$10), which tasted very creamy and smelled good! This is one of the ideal places to indulge in leisure out of office.Peace …Read More

This is one of the best restaurants in Elements which suits family gathering. I simply like the dim sum here, delicate and delicious. I especially like the creamy egg bun here. It’s definitely not over-cooked and the juice runs out softly! The rice rolls here are also incredible. Simply like them not too sticky nor easy broken, very firm while soft! Siu Long Bao here is bravo too! Hot enough and juicy inside as expected! The soup inside Siu Long Bao tastes so sweet and savory, I would never forget that taste!peace …Read More

Goodies from Teresa Festival
Teresa Festival
2012-02-08
Friends visit with the goodies from Teresa Festival. It's recommended to start tasting these five cakes from light to strong taste. The peach one tasted quite refreshing, not my best taste though. The raspberry one tasted very nice and gradational: soft, smooth and creamy, yet not too sweet! I def. would love to buy and taste it again! LOVE it! It has gradation in Tiramisu too, which impressed me. The strong choco one tasted a bit hard like it has been placing for long, not really nice. Personally I think the cakes from Teresa are quite big in size, price is also not extremely high at all. Thank you to my lovely friends for the goodiespeace…Read More

Seafood Dinner at Sam Shing Hui
Hoi Tin Garden Restaurant
2012-02-08
It’s well known that Sai Kong is a hot spot for seafood craving. However, Sam Shing Hui (in Tuen Mun, New Territories) is also a nice spot for seafood craving. Sam Shing Hui is one of the most renowned seafood markets both in the district and in the whole of Hong Kong. Unlike Sai Kong, Sam Shing Hui is more localize. Visitors can choose their favorite seafood and then send to one of the nearby seafood restaurants to be cooked and served for a superb seafood meal. This night we chose and picked several types of seafood from Chung Chai Kee (忠仔記). We simply like the variety of choices and very friendly service there. Afterwards, we picked this restaurant for dining. This restaurant provides spacious and stunning environment for family dining. We could choose the ‘cooking method’ for tasting the seafood: steam, fry, deep-fry, bake etc, all depend on you! I am not gonna describe them dish by dish though, making use of the power from garlic, onion, ginger, green onion etc., we could taste the very best side of the seafood! My general impression towards this restaurant is quite good. Except a bit too strong flavor, had to keep drinking up water. I especially like the baked lobster in soup, very juicy and fresh! Thumb up! Also the stir fry crab with ginger and onion tasted spicy hot~ olala cool! Alright, enjoy to 'taste' the fotos below Peace…Read More

this petit café which locates in Lai Chi Kok . It looked quite Parisian to me, I heard there're a lot of choices for the drinks. Lets check out what could we find hereThe menu book looked like a cover for Ipad, which interested me.We ordered three sets lunch. The smoked salmon sandwiches were big in size, which’s absolutely enough for one’s dining. We shared by three girls since we had two other dishes. The curry pork on rice tasted absolutely nice! It’s not too spicy while still rich in curry flavor. I barely remember the taste of the last dish. It tasted very pale, pasta wasn’t soft enough and the sauce was sticky like jelly… I only remember the chicken and ham tasted standard. I had ordered floral tea for myself. I like its presentation. It served with a mini cup for itself, looked adorable to me. The hot strawberry lattes for my girls looked good to me. Smelled good and tasted sweet! I went there on Saturday afternoon, not extremely crowded that it’s quite a nice place for chilling out with friends. Average price for each: $5x – $6x, which is quite reasonable. I would definitely come over for visiting next time if I go to check out Lai Chi Kok again. Peace …Read More

Palace Wannabe - Foo Lum
Fulum Palace
2012-02-08
It looks like a palace wannabe after its re-construction, we came over for dinner to check it out... The portion of food here is reasonably huge in size, which is very satisfying. The cheesy lobster looked absolutely big in portion and enormous. They were absolutely juicy and tasty. The dish of veggie was huge in portion, it served with special sauce mixed by crab and egg white, tasted sweet in other way. The cold-dish platter looked very presentable, it served different kinds of meats on the same plate which enriched the choices. I especially like the chicken sauced by soya bean sauce, very nice! Steamed fish was also very freshy sweet, love it!Scallop was very huge by each. I like the garlic tastes the best with it.General feeling to the re-constructed Foo Lam is good. Like the portion of food here is reasonably huge. If you wanna go for a family dinner, it’s definitely a place you can think about in Mei Foo. …Read More

Pricey poor quality seafood
Hung Kee Seafood Restaurant
2012-02-08
Since a while I haven't been to Sai Kung for eating seafood, the other night I had decided to come over for seafood craving with my family.we randomly bumped into this restaurant since this is the one we could get seats easily and our car was parked nearby. We ordered several kinds of seafood and requested mainly by steam & stir-fry methods for cooking them.I'm not gonna describe them dish by dish, generally I think the taste of each dish is way too 'salty' and too strong taste that covered the original taste of seafood. Especially the steamed fish, it was horribly salty and we had to keep drinking water to purify our taste bud....well, you can tell by the look from each dish, that it isn't that special nor good looking kind, while taste is also not special at all...however, it's very pricey when we took the bill. Together with the additional fee for cooking, it costed $16XX if we had done some research before we visited here, it would be better...next time I would def. not coming to visit again (sniff)…Read More
