Took my mom and sister to Inakaya to celebrate a special occasion. We settled into a table with ultra-low chairs - the table's height made it felt awkward. We started with a bottle of red wine - surprisingly I totally forgot what I ordered that night - maybe the food was so overwhelming it overshadowed everything. Since we're not seated at the sushi bar, we can't order sushi omakase. Since I wasn't able to book the robatayaki room, we can't order from the robatayaki menu either.So we settled for a sushi sashimi set, a teppan yaki set, some additional sushi/sashimi, tempura, grilled items. The Hokkaido uni was very nice - but that didn't require much skill. The otoro sashimi were served in chunks - it was very odd. I didn't eat any because the visual effect made me lost any appetite I had. Overall I'd say the sushi/sashimi items are okay, save the otoro. The shrimp tempura were okay nice, not very greasy and the shrimp seems fresh. When my sis eats tempura, she must eats rice. So she ordered a bowl of white rice - which turned out to be $50! Not that I wasn't expecting to spend a fortune but $50 for a bowl of rice? It's hard to justify. The tamago sushi (at $50 a pop) is more expensive than a hamachi sushi (at $40). That really makes you wonder, is the hamachi so average that it costs less than eggs (okay maybe Japanese eggs but still...)? The bill came out to be $8000 for three people - and as you can see, I only have very sketchy memory of what we ate. How sad is that?…Read More

With Babbo being one of my fav restaurants in NYC, was looking forward to trying Batali's first restaurant in HK. Dinner is a bit difficult to book so we reserved a table for a Sunday brunch. There isn't much decor to talk about but the tables could've been positioned better. The two of us were seated in a table next to a large drawer and throughout our meal, the servers kept asking me to move my chair so that they can access the items they need from the drawer. A small nuisance there.The menu itself was quite disappointing - a bit lacking in selections. We started with grilled mushrooms. Friend's comments were it tastes like the mushrooms her mom stir fries. Wasn't bad but was uninspiring.Then we moved on to share a pasta course and a meat course.For the pasta we ordered oxtail ragu with some square pasta (forgot its name in Italian!) The pasta was al dente (to my liking) and quite interesting. The ragu could use a little hint of sweetness. Overall it's okay. Friend said the pasta is very 得意. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing for a serious restaurant.Next comes the braised pork shoulder - supposed to be a signature dish, or as someone has told me. It tasted very Asian ~ and being Asians in an Asian city eating at a western restaurant ~ that feel didn't go too well. If I had that in NYC it probably would have been on the interesting side. The taste was like a cross between balsamic and chin kiang vinegar (鎮江醋), the texture of the meat, as my friend had described it, was like the meat from Chinese soup (煲湯肉). 叫左個mesclun greens with raspberry vinaigrette 做 starter. 個 portion 都算大, 兩個人分啱啱好. 個 vinaigrette 酸味味好開胃, 再加左些 mandarin 同 pomelo, 幾 refreshing. 位於上環一個比較靜既area, Serenade 是一個 casual but chic 既 fine dining place. 只看名字以為是間Italian restaurant 不過像間以 seafood 為主既 restaurant. 地方同個名一樣, 好 serene, 好 calm ~ 不過就沒有人來對住我地serenade! 最近看了本 magazine 推介左間在上環食蝦麵的店子, 看到很想吃, 不知有沒有在NY 的馬拉店般好吃. 之前在香港吃過幾間都唔得, 個湯太 light, 一點也不像是用蝦殼和蝦膏煮出來的. 朋友在openrice 再 search search 又見到 wan chai 也有間吃馬拉野的, 叫沙巴, 有好多個smile. 於是決定了今晚dinner 去沙巴吃!因為我想有個比較, 所以就去了上環既蝦麵店度食lunch! 先講講沙巴, 我地叫了roti canai (油鬆餅 - $22), beef rendang (巴東牛肉 - $75), ha mee (蝦麵 - $60), 同埋 bak kuh teh (肉骨茶 - $68). 先來了個蝦麵, 看見個湯已經覺得唔係好對路, 飲落口, 太淡了. 一點蝦味也沒有. 估唔到依間野由TM開到來YL!之前入TM打TENNIS都去過果度間糖百府幾次, 最好味就係個 molten chocolate cake! 中間真係會有chocolate sauce spill 出來的! 之前在new york既家都試過整但failed過幾次 .. Went there for a semi-buffet lunch after an interview.Buffet appetizer only is $188, with an entree it was around $218/228, with dessert buffet I think it was another $10.Since I wasn't too interested in the entree selection, I chose to have only the appetizer, which not only fills you up but the food is quite tasty!The selection includes different kinds of cured meat (parma ham, salami, turkey, tongue, etc), smoked salmon, beef carpacio, tuna carpacio, various kinds of veggies, fritata, and a salad bar. I really enjoyed the parma ham and smoked salmon ~ not too salty with a nice texture.The place doesn't get very crowded so it's definitely a good place for a quiet lunch. 六月去過食佢既 porterhouse 都煮得幾好味. 不過Australian beef 都係唔夠 US beef 好味所以今次去一心係想叫佢既 US sirloin.坐下來叫完食物先送上 amuse ~ 是 smoked salmon ~ 同上次一樣, 味淡淡. 過左兩個月仲係俾同一樣既 amuse, 無咩新意.再來是今晚既主角之一 ~ popovers! 真的好大個. 今次一半都食唔晒. 不過 popovers 依d野過完癮都唔會太想再吃. 伴菜叫左 creamed spinach 同 potato gratin. 個 potato gratin 上面有層 cheese broiled 過, 有少少 crispy, 好好味!主角就係USDA Prime sirloin ~ 有人怕生所以我地叫左 medium, 但佢煮得比 medium 過熟但又未係 medium well所以無同個server講. 食落口既conclusion係 … 好dry ... 好難食! 佢無咩crust同埋個steak唔夠fat marbling. 食落會覺得很dry很不好吃. USDA Prime 係只有 5% 既 US cows 先有, 而在USA 呢d牛排多數只會在好既steakhouse先會食到 (BLT 係其中一間, 我在ny都去過) ~ 所以特別覺得今日的差, 一點也不像 prime 既 meat. 相對之下上次既 Australian porterhouse 好好多 ~ 但一間steakhouse 如果只有賣成 $1,100 一個既 porterhouse 做得好而其他既做得咁差咁係我一定會 blacklist.…Read More

HK Epicurus "USDA Prime 係只有 5% 既 US cows 先有, 而在USA 呢d牛排多數只會在好既steakhouse先會食到 (BLT 係其中一間, 我在ny都去過) ~ 所以特別覺得今日的差, 一點也不像 prime 既 meat. 相對之下上次既 Australian porterhouse 好好多"You should Blacklist them even more ..... BLT Hong Kong does not sell you USDA PRIME BEEF... Its USDA, Certified Angus. For that matter, it could just as well be CHOICE or SELECT.Most people get confused over this matter when eating here. Its not Top Grade meat at all. :(

今日lunch 去左 the flying pan 試下佢地整既american breakfast 整得似唔似. 上到去覺得有少少似上左旺角果d café咁, decoration 好簡單 (如果咁都算有decoration 既話). d staff 好似個個都係南亞人, 抬抬都有客而佢地好似唔係好夠人手咁. 睇完個menu (都不用點看, 之前online 都睇熟晒 XD) 我叫左個Rancheros eggs muchos … muchos 姐係比Rancheros eggs 多幾件avocado (muchos 在 Spanish 姐係好多咁解). 做法係有個tortilla 喺bottom, 再加refried beans (yummy!), potatoes, cheese, salsa, sour cream, jalapeno peppers, 當然仲有eggs 啦 (我要左soft scramble. ) 都幾啱味, 如果多點refried beans 仲好! (不過我諗refried beans 一般中國人係唔會中意食.)我家姐叫左 2 eggs with corned beef hash, 加左件 pancake, 再加多件 challah bread french toast! 不過佢都俾左 d hash 同半個french toast 我既. 個 hash 好味, 同美國果d can 開出來既一樣咁好味! 其實我覺得corned beef hash 一定要係can果d先好味, homemade雖然聽落好似好d 但係係做唔出果種味度出來! 個pancake 我食左一啖, 都幾得. 個french toast … 嘩, 估唔到香港都可以搵到d猶太人常食既challah bread! 在 ny 都成日見d restaurant 用來做 french toast, 依度都做得幾好味.
