Din Tai Fung
2024-07-15
…Read More

Disappointing lunch
The Drawing Room
2024-04-24
We took the Restaurant Week set lunch a few days ago.   The lunch was started with breads which were very dry and hard.  The main courses shown on the Restaurant Week menu included beef ribs and cod fish.   However,  when we were there, we were offered a different menu and did not have these courses.  Instead,   chicken and/ barramundi were offered.   Since I booked the lunch based on the courses offered, I felt being cheated.  What is worse is that,  the barramundi is from local farm.   Its texture was bad and had no taste and there was completely no side dish to go with it.  Finally, we were disappointed with the desserts which did not have much flavor. The whole meal was very disappointing, and completely different from the meals we had last time which were so much better.Regarding the service:  the waitresses there always walked around us but never checked whether we need more water.  They seemed not trained.   On the other hand, the waiters provided much better service. …Read More

Goldy Cafe
2023-04-09
…Read More

Cucina
2021-07-09

our worst experience for lunch
The Salted Pig (新城市廣場一期)
2018-08-20
My husband and I ordered the "fried chorizo & potatoes" and "Striploin steak" from the brunch menu.  The steak was very thin and difficult to chew.  Furthermore, it was very salty.   for the fried chorizo & potatoes dish, there were    only a few small dices of chorizo and potatoes.  They were put on a piece of so called "toast".  I felt like eating a soggy piece of bread with some spicy tomato sauce on top only and almost cannot feel any potatoes or meat.  There was a very tiny pinch of salad at the side of each dish only.  Unfortunately, I forgot to take photos. After the lunch, we felt like eating nothing because of the tiny portion and poor quality.  We need to take another      lunch at another restaurant!  It was our worst experience for lunch.  We will never go back!…Read More

The worst tasting menu I have ever had
The Chef Kit
2015-02-24
I came a very long way to try this new restaurant, with the expectation of at least a reasonable quality because usually a new restaurant would serve high quality food and that it claims that it is run by the former chef of American Club.Unfortunately, it is far below my expectation of reasonable quality. They did not provide foods as stated in the Groupon. Foods such as the clam chowder soup, blue mussel risotto, and rib-eye beef were not provided. They claimed that the original price was $498. It was not true. They serve the all-you-can-eat menu at the original price of $278. The Groupon tasting menu is not all-you-can-eat because they did not give you the foods after 2 portions even though the portions were extremely tiny (except the noodle pasta).Soup: The pumpkin soup was cold and had no taste. It was the worst pumpkin soup I have ever had.Salads:The salads were just Ok. But the portions were very tiny (only one mouthful). After having 2 extremely tiny salads, even though we ordered 2 more, they never came despite chasing for them.Starters: We ordered only the meat balls and ravioli. For 2 of us, we got only 2 “meat balls” and a few pieces of ravioli. One “meat ball” (they should not be called “balls” because they were not round) was much smaller than the other. The “meat” was extremely chewy. I think they were made of tendons only (no meat at all).As for the ravioli, the “meat” fillings were made of the same stuff as the “meat balls”. There was no “meat” to eat.Pasta: We only ordered 1 portion of risotto with prawns. The so called “big prawns” were 2 tiny pieces of frozen prawns (same as those with the salad). There were no asparagus as claimed. The middle part of the rice was raw (I have to emphasize that they were raw, not al dente).Main: we tried all the 4 available (no beef were provided). All were terrible. The duck was very dry. The so-called roast baby pig was actually pork belly. The skin of the pork belly was hard, and the pork was very fat while the thin layer of lean pork was very dry. The salmon was dry and had not taste (frozen product). The so-called “lamb steak” was a tiny bit (NOT steak as they claimed) of very fatty and chewy lamb meat.Since the main courses were so tiny and terrible, we ordered one portion of risotto again because we had ordered so little food and were still hungry. But the boss rudely asked us loudly that whether we could finish the risotto. I told him that so far we had ordered only one portion of pasta dish and we could definitely finish the risotto because the portion was so small. But the risotto never came!!! (we had waited for more than one hour!)The desserts of tart (only 2 choices of tarts) must have been kept in the fridge for a long time. They have the taste of fridge.Unless you ask for the wine, they never serve you the wine.We ordered the tea but it never came (we had waited for more than half an hour). We could not put up with the extremely bad service and bad food; we could not wait any longer for the food and paid the bill. For $240, it is definitely over-priced for the poor food and poor service. This is the first time I bought Groupon for a tasting menu. Given the very bad experience, I would never buy any more group buy for a tasting menu.I would like to say a few words to the boss of The Chef Kit. If you don’t want your patrons to order a reasonable amount of food, then DON’T serve all-you –can-eat menu!We have to leave the restaurant with a half-full stomach because the foods never came. The portions of the foods were extremely tiny (except the noodle pasta which we did not order). You have to know that some customers (like us) ordered only a few items on the menu slips and NOT everything. But you did not allow us to order more of a particular item. NOT EVEN A SECOND PORTION!!!That is very mean!…Read More

Terrible food but the waiter is Ok
Prime Bar & Restaurant
2014-08-13
We had lunch last Tuesday. It was an annoying and terrible lunch. We had to wait for almost an hour for our main course while the table next to us only had to wait for 20 minutes. The soup was like a mixture of flour with water and a little bit of milk. The clam pasta was terrible. There were only about 5 tiny pieces of clams, with completely no taste! (I think they simply boil the clam in water to cook).  The pasta was too soft and the texture was like powder. The pasta was too dry and had no taste. That was the worst pasta I have ever had so far.It has nothing to do with the waiter who was alright. It was the foods and the kitchen which have problems. We will never go back.  For such poor quality, the price is relatively high in Tai Po area.Additional comments: Although there are many good reviews for this bar, if you read carefully, you would notice that most of the reviews were written by the owner’s friends who did not have to pay.…Read More

so disappointing!
Harbourside
2014-03-04
I have been a patron of the restaurants of Hong Kong Intercontinental Hotel since 10 years ago. The Harbourside is the restaurant I dine most often. Over the past 4 or 5 years, the quality of food kept dropping while the price kept increasing by several folds. I wanted to write a review about their foods long time ago, but I kept waiting for them to improve until this time, I really have to comment on their foods. (Last year, I have talked to their assistant manager about their foods but the quality got worse)We went there for the lunch buffet on a Wednesday. This time, I was astounded by the extremely limited variety of foods offered and the poor quality even though I have been very unhappy about their foods in the past year. No wonder the restaurant was only half full.Of the approximately 12 hot dishes, 5 of them were different ways of cooking vegetables ((1) baked tomatoes, 2) baked sliced potatoes, 3) stewed eggplants, 4) sautéed mixed vegetables and 5) vegetable curry). There were 3 dishes of bean curds (two of them were steamed plain tofu and one was deep fried balls). The remaining hot dishes were fried rice, chunks of ox tongue, pork knuckles and chicken curry. The so-called curry did not look like curry. The sauce of the braised ox tongue looked the same as that of the chicken curry and the look was intimidating (I should have taken the photos). You can find better curry in any small and cheap restaurants than this. There was one dish of fish but they were dry and rough and had no taste. As for the sashimi, the snappers were not fresh and the tuna has been refrigerated too hard. Only the salmon was Ok although some had tendons. The roast beef was very dry and tasteless and of low quality.Other customers were holding the plate walking around the buffet tables like me, having difficulties in choosing the foods they want because nothing was attractive.I always hate their Caesar salads to be pre-mixed with dressing. In other 5-star hotels, Caesar salads are never pre-mixed and there is always a server who mixes the salad for you so that the vegetables remain crunchy and fresh, yet these hotels charge a much lower price than Harbourside! The small amount of seafood are never appealing. The prawns never have taste, the Jade whelks always have sand (each piece I tried has sands) and the crab legs have no taste but very salty. That’s why I never want to eat their “seafood”.As for their desserts, only the “Napoleon” was Ok although a bit too brown. The others were not fresh especially the cakes. Others were mainly different types of mousse. For the poor quality of food, I would not go there even if they charge $200+, and yet, they charge $418 (Monday to Friday lunch before the 10% service charge).I kept going back even though I became more and more disappointed by their food quality. But after this time, I have decided that I will not go back anymore! What a pity!…Read More

extremely oily pasta
Cova Ristorante & Caffe (港威商場)
2013-04-08
My friend and I went to Cova at Gateway for lunch yesterday. The lunch includes an appetizer buffet, a main and a coffee. If the main is pasta (3 choices with one of them at an extra cost of $98), the lunch is charged at $228. For fish or pork as main, the cost is $278. With sirloin as a main, it would cost an additional of $120 (that is, a total of $398). My friend ordered a 1/2 lobster as main which cost $338. I ordered spaghetti with prawns as the main. The variety of appetizer was Ok but the cos lettuce was not fresh enough. The quality of the smoked salmon was not good. My friend's 1/2 lobster came with risotto. The risotto tasted good but the lobster was very small. The meat of the lobster was very tough. For my pasta, it was awful. All the pasta was soaking in oil. I have to hold up one side of the plate to allow the oil to flow to the other side. There were about 2 table-spoons of oil flowing out of the pasta which was already fully soaked with oil! The taste of pasta was only ordinary. There were only 3 prawns which were not fresh.Considering such lousy pasta, I don't think it's worth the price.…Read More

wong chi kee shatin
Wong Chi Kee
2012-10-02
I had submitted a food review yesterday on Wong Chi Kee Shatin, which was not accepted by you.You asked me to describe the noodle in more details. I have already said that the noodle was not like noodle and has no noodle taste at all (which is supposed to have at least some egg taste and flour taste), but they were like bunches of grasses. How much more can I describe the noodle? I went there mainly for noodles, but was extremely disappointed with that "noodle" which texture was like thread. Many of the reveiws shown by your website were invited reviews. Many of the revieweres were invited to eat at no cost. Of course, they would only give good reviews. No wonder we were always trapped by your misleading reviews. Often, a restaurant with many smiles is very bad. I have been tricked by you many times. Some restaurants have lots of good reviews which were clearly written by someone who were paid to write the reviews. Some months ago, you sent me a questionnaire which if I filled in, you would give me a coupon for Cheeses, but it was not true. …Read More

cheap restaurant food in a 5-star hotel
Lobby Lounge
2012-08-16
We tried their English tea set using Groupon yesterday. Although it was only priced at $120 per person, it is much overpriced because of the poor quality. The food is similar to that of a cheap restaurant. The tea set was prepared well in advance. The sandwiches were dry and stale. The “cream” for the “scone”-like things was not fresh cream, but was something like a mixture of butter with some cream. All the foods on the plates were not fresh. The small cakes did not taste good. Actually, none of the foods for the whole tea set taste good. For the poor quality, I wonder how they can charge $188 as the original price! Even if they charge onlly $100 per person, I will never go back again.…Read More

a disappointing dinner
Mistral
2012-07-20
Last night, my husband and I had the 4-course set dinner at Mistral. Since they never change the menu for the whole year, I would not be interested if not because of the many good previous reviews. The dinner started with bread which was warm and good. Then came the cheese with speck ham which was good. However, the following courses were very disappointing! The second course of tagliolini with lobster was well below average. If the menu did not say it was lobster, I could not tell there was lobster. There were only a few (maybe 3) very tiny dices of lobster flesh which were very dry and rough and had no lobster taste. The tagliolini was a bit too soft and not tasty. The third course was cod fish for me and beef cheek for my husband. The cod fish had its natural smooth texture but not much taste. The baby cuttlefish was too salty. The beef cheek, while quite tasty, did not have the black truffle taste at all. I did not realize that the beef cheek was cooked with black truffle until I checked the menu today. What a failure! The beef cheek has been cooked so long that the whole thing was completely broken up easily. Finally, the panna cotta was also disappointing. It was just ordinary.I am most unhappy about the size of the second and third courses. They were of the size for a 10-course degustation menu! But it was only a 4-course dinner! If we did not have the bread and ask for more bread, we would be starving.Given the tiny size and the ordinary dishes, the dinner at Mistral does not worth its price (which is not high in absolute term). Even though Pierre, Amber, Petrus, and Caprice (Caprice is not good now after getting the Michelin 3 star) etc. charge more than double the amount for their degustation menu, I would rather take my dinner in these restaurants which serve far better foods. What’s more, Mistral does not provide good service. Even though my husband had finished his water for a long time, they did not refill water. When we told them to refill water, the waiter simply took away the glass and did not come back!…Read More

what a disappointing tea-set!
Café on M
2011-03-13
We took the high-tea set yesterday. It is charged at $168 per person. For 2 persons, it would be $168x2. It consisted of 3 small rectangular plates. On the top plate, there were 4x2 mini-size “sandwich” with a very thin layer of “thing” (so thin that I could not tell what it was) on the top. Each piece was only of the size of a $5 coin. The middle layer: 4x2 sweet snacks. Three of them were some sort of fruit tart or pastry, with some fruits on top of the custard paste. One piece had a texture similar to cheese cake but it did not taste anything. They were all of mini size. The bottom plate: 4 mini scones. No fresh cream was provided. Only jam in small jars. Like the other snacks on the top 2 plates, the scones had no taste. The cappuccino was terrible. It had no coffee smell at all! Any cheap restaurant is better.Although the price of the tea-set of Peninsula, HK Intercontinental, Mandarin Oriental, are a little bit more expensive than this, their food are so much better! The tea-set at Cafe on M should not worth more than $100 per person. Actually, even if they charge only $100 per person, I would not try again because the foods are really bad.We were very disappointed at the tea-set because the foods at lunch and dinner are Ok.…Read More

hope you will improve

I would like to give this restaurant a fair comment. When this restaurant was first opened, I put high hope on it. In the first 2 weeks, the quality of their food was very good although their service was very slow. I ate there very often in the first 3 weeks. But starting from July 2010, their food quality had deteriorated greatly. Despite their lower quality, I kept going there, hoping improvement. But again and again, the quality of food became poorer and poorer. After they advertised in a Food magazine, their business became better. But they also increased their price greatly (especially dinner). At the same time, their food became poorer and poorer. Last time, when I was there, their bread had the taste of fridge. Their steak was the cheap type and the meat to go with the pasta was so little. For the poor quality, the price is too high. I can find much better food at a much lower price in many restaurants in Tsim Sha Tsui.I hope this restaurant will improve their food quality and charge a reasonable price. The wife of the owner has tried very hard to serve the customers well. But food quality is most important!…Read More

we took our dinner there last night. One of the dishes we ordered was 白灼蝦. It was terrible!!! The whole plate of prawns was rotten. But their menu described them as "live" prawns!!! It was not the first time that we found their prawns bad. The other dishes were just Ok. Please do not order their "live" prawns.…Read More
