Knock knock! Friday knuckle.
Amuse
2025-09-06
Fun fact: Do you know that today is the last Friday in August? Yes it's time to celebrate the weekend with some crispy pork knuckle. What's better? Getting pork knuckle here comes with two complimentary glasses of boozy lemon tea (available all time all day)- they are the best potion for rewinding your soul I assure you. Amuse's pork knuckle is one of the best in town, honestly speaking. Cooked very crunchy, tasted finger licklingly delicious, not greasy at all, came in an absolutely huge portion, served with a side of appetising honey mustard, sauerkraut and mixed greens. We could easily finish the whole tray. On top of our pig, we shared a snack platter featuring extremely crispy bacon-wrapped weiner, lovely and sweet beer-battered onion rings, mozzarella sticks and fried wings. Make sure to dip these babies in the BBQ sauce and aioli ranch on the side. It's weekend so we added some grilled dried pufferfish with mayo to our table and called it a night. Follow Amuse on Instagram to enjoy 50% off specific items every Sun-Thu, 4-8pm. …Read More

The best Bread Pudding I’ve had so far
Feather & Bone
2025-08-16
It’s Friday and the three of us had a happy hour catch up by the window side table overlooking Wanchai busy streetscape. I love the sofa seats with printed fabric cushions, that felt like home. The tomato & burrata cheese salad was so good and served on a toasted piece of pillowy sourdough. My tipple pic for the night was the haut blanc from France, medium dryness and easy to drink on a hot summer night. The other was the Three Oaks cider. Chicken parm was covered in an amazing blanket of melted cheese. Pumpkin risotto was cooked with sweet cinnamon powder, nuts and some crispy sautéed leaves- quite herbal. Star of the night was the Butter & vanilla croissant breading pudding. OMG THIS IS THE MOST GOOD-looking piece of bread pudding I’ve had in my life so far. Well stacked and came in perfect layers, soaked in just the bare minimum amount of custard (which is very very unusual). That scoop of vanilla icecream and caramel crumbles were the best companion as well. It’s honestly a genuine smokeshow! …Read More

It’s a long one! 🎺 Dosa crepe; butter chicken
Anjappar Chettinad Indian Restaurant
2025-07-14
It’s a long one! 🎺 Southern Indian dosa crepe; 🎶 dok-dok bamboo biryani This Indian eatery is honestly a champion, blasted with Indian music videos and laughters from the customers. Most importantly, every dish was so bomb and the red sofa seatings were so comfy, it made me want to stay all night, jk!This hot weather makes me ultra hungry so a bamboo biryani could fuel us up, the staff would pour the rice right at your table by dok-dok-dok tapping on the bamboo container. You could choose chicken or mutton to go with the rice, there were egg, veggies, and an onion yogurt sauce to go with the crabs. It tasted fulfilling and the basmati rice were cooked moist, easy for digestion during hot summer times. Showstopper of the night went to the butter dosa, it was a very long and huge roll of fermented crepe made out of ghee and rice. It was so amazingly delicious, crispy on its edge and chewy at its centre, with bubbly panfried marks over the crepe. Tear off this beauty and dip that into the four sauces of choice: coconut, tomato, mint and lentil. Another signature was their butter chicken masala, man, that was the best butter chicken we have had in HK so far, both of us agreed. Taste was rich, buttery and all-rounded, masala texture was perfect, chicken was tender and grilled. Every spoonful was an enjoyment, of cos you need to spoon that onto a piece of garlic naan, which was freshly prepared with very high quality. Fried chicken lollipop was marinated with red sauce and deep fried, and served with a sweet spicy garlic sauce- very appetising and I literally couldn't stop grabbing the next one to devour. Those green-marinated chicken on sizzling plate were puthina murgh tikka, served pipping hot, with finely smoked and charred flavour. You can't go wrong with mango lassi, they even made that with Pakistani mango which was extra fragrant. My choice was the savoury spiced butter milk, it was like a drinking yogurt seasoned with peppery papadum spices, very stimulating and that was how we call it a night!…Read More

You are a child at heart in Little Brooklyn (Tai Nan Street in Sham Shui Po) hopping and wandering, just to realise the old soul in you starving and actually craving the ultimate Hong Kong comfort food- siu mei! Have your fixings at this shop because they serve very good charsiu, roasted pork, goose, and even clay pot rice. Mine was suckling pig on rice, on the side a dish of sweet dipping sauce. How splendid are these pieces of suckling pig? Shiny, crackling skin and the fragrant bone-in meat has been roasted to perfection. Hers was a combo of classic barbecue pork and crispy roasted pork, with a beautiful delicious yellow mustard sauce. The siu mei at this place has been flavoured with traces of Chinese rose cooking wine. Portion was huge and price was unbeatable. Soups/ drinks are included, oldies like us went for the soups for sure! Today it’s carrots and dried bak choy soup with chicken feet, that’s genuinely soul warming on a cold and rainy April day. …Read More

Very well-paced Korean fine dining experience
OOULI
2025-09-16
Owner of this place has their own rice farm to produce quality white grains that are made into the mains of their fine dining menus. Definitely check this place out if you are a rice fans, their rice were full in shape and smelt extra aromatic. Their house grown rice magically became the Korean beef and clams congee (the juk), the solsot stone pot rice with a variety of kimchis, and the waffled stretchy mochi with a superb chestnut and honey cream cheese. All these rice items were genuinely excellent and prepared with high standards. The staff was very caring and friendly, he kindly reminded us the fine dining would last for at least an hour and a half, so we could take our time and need not to hurry. It was a totally relaxing time looking from high above, the Victoria park, harbour and the bustling roads, while we said cheers to our makgeolli, cut apart our grilled pork belly and ginseng chicken burger, mixed our cold noodles with raw marinated cuttlefish, and savoured each perfect bite of the crispy seafood pancakes, as well as the soup dumplings. Our bill was less than HK$900 per person at lunch hour, for a fine dining level of specially designed Korean menu, this is invincible. …Read More

Shunde feast for birthday celebration
Fung Shing Restaurant (Leighton Road)
2025-05-01
I'd seriously recommend booking this place for birthday celebrations in big groups, because they have huge tables and incredible Chinese cuisines to serve. Our birthday star was stunned by her "cake" this year, with a very aromatic baked caramelised top; custardy sago pudding in the middle; and sweet lotus paste at the bottom. The three layers perfectly melted into each other, and you could easily spoon this cake to savor. We got each of us a serving of the signature soup stewed in purple clay teapots, just poured the golden liquid out into the tea cup when you are ready to drink. It's the very rare moment that I enjoy soup in such a delicate and delicious way. There were dried conch, chicken feet, dried scallop, lean pork, yam, and wolfberries boiled in this soup- an absolute elixir to cure my body & soul. A proper Chinese feast should never miss any of these: Peking duck is a must-order, fried whole crispy chicken (on superb discount at occasions, please keep a keen eye!), giant prawn toasts that were extremely crispy and delightful, very well-seasoned fish paste-shaped fish that came in a tasty Chinese demi glace made of black beans & sun-dried mandarin peels, Chinese liver pate & preserved salted meat sandwich (a tribute to the traditional Money Chicken rolls), and a pot of assorted vegetables cooked with fragrant dried prawns, squid legs, mushrooms and vermicelli. Such a great dinner. …Read More

Hygge: cosy convivial gathering
hygge
2025-06-12
We came here during their soft opening, and it was a busy night. Having an overdue gathering, we went overboard ordering everything from the menu. The interiors were relaxing, although a little noisy, seatings were spacious and great for big-scale reunions. My personal favourites were the Camembert cheese & ham pizza, the base was baked in Italian Naples style and was chewy. You should also try their savoury soufflé baked with a trio of cheese, and spinach. This dish was a winner, tasted rich, cheesy and unique. My friends gave high commendation to the squid ink pasta with a very tender octopus tentacle. The braised beef pumpkin risotto lacked pumpkin flavour, but came with a bone marrow, it was a nice touch. We sampled the fruity shakes, which were served in small glasses. Wish they were larger. Desserts were crepes, which batter were layered and cooked in medium thickness. Both flavours were good, it could be more “French” if they made the crepes a little thinner. …Read More

It's finally weekend again and if you like brunching like me, you should definitely visit this cafe in the Little Brooklyn district of Hong Kong (a.k.a. Sham Shui Po). Two-storey high, brutalist-styled interiors, collabs with fashion brand Y-3, this place is perfect for your next brunch out. I went upstairs for their camping-themed seatings, foldable chairs and portable tables, with aircon I can finally enjoy a comfortable indoor camping/ picnic moment without getting myself overheated. My plate had a pot of superbly scrumptious smoked cauliflower purée, with beautiful slices of cucumbers and smoked salmon on top, most impressively there were pickled red onions and fresh dills to serve with- honestly delicate and details matter! Those two pieces of sourdough toasts were GOLD. They were freshly made, extremely crusty on the outside, soft on the inside, and perfectly toasted with butter. I could eat this bread literally every day. We know glamping is popular, so I glam it up with a bottle of double matcha latte. I love their recipe cos the latte was so smooth and slipped down my throat like silk. I really like the balance of taste in their matcha latte, where earthiness and sweetness are evenly blended like the horoscope Libra.…Read More

10/10 Tori paitan 雞白湯: The best in HK so far
Torieki
2025-06-09
Chic & relaxing yakitori & sake bar towards the street's end We began celebrating my horoscope month early this year, the yakitori and hospitality in this setting gave us an absolute enjoyment, and we ended up exalting the food and the vibe in full contentment. Lounges for boozy catch-ups, and lockers for your bags, are both available, so you can completely put your chores down and relax here with a fancy yakitori getaway.Seat yourself comfortably around the kitchen island and spectate the chefs chargrilling the skewers, because you will appreciate how smokeless and well-controlled the fireside was. Every skewer was stunning (both a-la-carte, and omakase available), made out of fresh produce and carefully seasoned and cooked. My personal favourites of the omakase set tonight (HK$ 728 /pax) were:10/10 Tori paitan (鶏白湯), this was the best chicken white broth I've tasted in HK so far, cooked for 10 hours with locally raised three-yellow chicken, the flavour was at its finesse, I assure you. You can order just the soup, or you can opt for the addition of some fine made udon;Crispy skin-on white eel, so beautifully sectioned, spongy flesh and highly delicious grilled skin;Cheesy rice cake, which the chewy rice outer was so different from the regular ones, you could tell there's something special about the choice of starch and ways they handled the rice cake;Smoked daikon studded with cream cheese and sliced- this was another masterpiece, crunchy, smoky and velvety at the same time, the presentation was second-to-none since it looked like sliced truffles laying on a delicate stone crafted bowl. We were so happy, another best part was the short greetings in well-articulated Japanese from the smiling staff. Definitely felt like dining in Tokyo. …Read More

Thai food to the cure

Summer is waving its tail, however I still feel hot and needed some sour & spicy meals to cheer me up, especially after all the storms. So, Thai food it is. This quiet diner was managed by two very friendly and cheerful Thai staff that night. I love how we could chat about Chiangmai, and there was a ceiling-mounted TV showing live music played by a pair of uncle duet. The vibe itself was worth the visit. On our table, please EVERYONE APPLAUD for the larb salad with lettuce wrap. THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST larbs I had in HK. Not too spicy, carefully stirred with basil, spices, shallots, pork mince, roasted ground rice etc. Proper, and outrageously delicious, when you wrap everything with the very fresh crunchy lettuce leaf. I won't starve myself during dinner hour, thus we also ordered pineapple & chicken fried rice, deep fried taro & mushroom stuffed spring rolls, sour lime soda, and the essential iced Thai milk tea. All of them were authentically Thai, and tasty. We managed to bid farewells to the staff with Kop khun ka/ krap upon finishing our dinner. …Read More

I’ve been always visually attracted by this bakery every time when I walk pass SSP to the Garden building. For bread lovers like me, all of their baked goods are calling me. This UFO disc shaped bun was my pick: the label said it’s a Japanese style bread with a trio of cheese. The top was a circular disc of very crispy grilled cheese, under that was a soft bun. Savoury, and it was a great treat for me after basking on the street for hours. …Read More

Tea time dumplings noodles
Nom Nom Dumpling
2025-09-24
Came for a much needed dumpling break after basking under the sun for a few hours. It was tea time so I tried their soup noodles for $39. There were three dumplings, the noodles were thin Shanghainese noodles in soup. My pick was the little spicy for the soup (quite spicy to be honest), it’s summer and I needed the heat to boost my mood. There’s a jar of pickled turnips mixed with chilli flakes, chilli oil and pickled black beans. It was highly savoury and went very well with the dumplings. Dumplings were wrapped with thin skin, very delicious, and I wish there were more. …Read More

Having time off on a Friday, we treated ourselves to a lunch out here- as well to enjoy a drink or two within lunchtime offers. You see, mine was the tipsy cooler with a piece of kaffir leaf. Starter was an appetisingly refreshing vinaigrette-dressed beef loins rice noodle salad; mains we picked the essential chicken curry with Thai jasmine rice, and very yummy stir-fried beef flat noodles; it’s a ritual to finish any Thai meals with mango sticky rice, here they served our dessert using coconut milk covered freshly steamed sticky rice. Love the staff friendliness and retro decor too! …Read More

Superb Napoleon cake, lunch sets at $88
Black Coffee
2025-09-19
nside is minimalist designed, outside is all-black tinted windows, this cafe is a subtle one at the end of a street, yet with highly outstanding dishes. Their mille feuilles are one of the best I could find in town, very reasonably priced and served in huge portions. Mine was the apple crumble napoleon, loaded with cinnamony caramel drizzled diced apples. The extremely flaky pastries were second-to-none, they held in beautiful shape even when you cut them apart, inside was sandwiched with a thick layer of chilled melty custard. On the side, there were a scoop of rich velvety ice-cream with vanilla beans, and sugared walnuts. This is a piece of heaven where I find sheer joy. Lunch sets available from $88 (drinks included) and feature a variety of delicious pastas and savoury waffle sandwiches. My pick was their homemade pancetta carbonara, which was extremely creamy and rich. The pancetta was sparkles of this dish, as they were the glistening fatty bits that dance on your palate. It was my pre-weekend ritual to top up a great lunch with a special drink, so I got a glass of iced peanuts and milk chocolate. This was so good, and it tasted amazingly like a liquid version of peanut butter. I assure you that this should be on your drink wishlist if you love cafe-hopping. …Read More

Quick dinner before attending my acting class
Cafe MED
2025-09-16
To chase the far end of summer this year, I joined myself to an evening acting class in Hunghom. It's quintessential to feed yourself before you act, okay. So my dinner pick of the night was a bowl of HK signature: seared chicken steak with ginger scallion oil, with a side of sweet corns, zucchini, cherry tomatoes and mixed veggies. The chicken was panfried to very crispy, and while you dip that into the ultimate ginger scallion oil, you know you got it right. Add a few dollars and enjoy a piece of buttered toast, and a hearty HK style borscht with beef, carrots and celery. I also had a glass of special drink: Lemongrass honey breakfast tea, served hot, soothing to my throat and it was a wake up call to my soul- reminding me to stay attentive during the late evening lesson. …Read More
