Delicious...but with a price tag
RONIN
2015-05-19
I LOVE yardbird, so naturally, I had great expectations for Ronin. I had sashimi as appetizers, and I have to say I was a little disappointed. The fish are not super fresh, although I like the sauces that came with it. I wouldn't say it's horrible either, but it's more like next-day sashimi quality you get for set lunches.  Next up, I had the Kagoshima beef. OMG. This was so good! Marbled beef with shitake mushroom, lots of garlic chips, onions, and raw egg yolk. Full of flavors, very fatty, very creamy but so good! Next up, crab with uni! Two of my favorites combined how could I say no? It was amazing but nothing out of the ordinary. We ended the meal with a super creamy mentaiko udon. I really wanted to love this dish too but it was just...tooo creamy for me. I really enjoyed the meal and would recommend this place to those who enjoy fushion Japense. I warn you though - it's very expensive for what it is. I would definitely skip the sashimi. Your wallet will thank you later!! Ronin is located in a small street, its really hard to find and super easy to miss the entrance. I am glad someone already posted the entrance picture. The service is great, the place is nicely decorated, and the bar is wonderful. If you don't mind standing at the bar area, go during the weekend to enjoy the vibe!…Read More

Interesting concept, amazing duck dumpling!
Nicolas ELALOUF
2015-05-18
I visited here on a Saturday night when I had no reseveration and need a place to eat in Central. Luckily, this place was rather empty. Not that their food is bad though...which brings me here today to write an review so hopefully more people can try and they won't close down! I love fushion so I was actually quite excited to try this place. The first dim sum that came was recommended by our server and said to be a new item on the menu - duck dumpling: I absolutely LOVE this dish. The dumpling skin is thin and moist and the shredded duck inside is juicy and tender. I have never had duck dumplings in Chinese restaurants but this worked and I am so glad I tried it! Expectations are now high for the following dishes....  Next up was the Ratatouille dumpling with an Italian twist to it.It was filled with tomatoes and vegetables. I really like the flavors of this one but the skin unfortunately was a bit dry and too thick when it was served. The menu said "Fried Risotto" so I was excited to see how this one worked out. The flavors are good but the texture resembles a bad Chinese fried rice that is too moist. You are supposed to use "next day" rice that is dry to make good fried rice. I think it would be more interesting to make a creamy risotto but with the Chinese ingredients. Lastly we had this meatball noodle. I was expecting regular ho fan but to my suprise, they used rice rolls to replace the noodle. An interesting take and I like it! It would've been even better if they fried the rice roll and make it crispy! All in all, there are some hits and misses. Would come back and try the other dim sum dishes. The people are extremely nice in this place too. Definitely come for a chill night! …Read More

Great Location for a small bite
Passion
2015-05-18
This location opened perhaps couple months ago? It looks like a relaxing cafe so I decided to come enjoy a small bite and coffee- WRONG. It got super crowded at lunch hour! I suggest visiting during other hours instead if you want to sit alone and enjoy some coffee!I tried their salad which was pleasantly surprise. With many toppings and I remember the greens to be very fresh, and there was this pumpkin salad that was very flavorful! I also got a macaron for dessert. Their display is too pretty to say no! I got a coffee macaron which was full of coffee flavors, but the macaron texture is a bit on the soft side. It's not bad quality for a $20 / pc one. The cakes look amazing too! Will try next time. But their cupcakes look strangely very fake and sweet... …Read More

Not the best cupcake but they make a good snack
Twelve Cupcakes
2014-01-30
I used to be a big cupcake fan. Hong Kong does not have a lot of good cupcakes so I had very low expectations for this place. Twelve Cupcakes are known for their petite and not overly sweet cupcakes for Asians. Personally I think they are only so so but strangely I think it works for Hong Kong. The cupcake itself is moist and not too sweet but they lack the buttery flavor. The frosting are so so - not rich enough for my liking. No surprises in the flavors they offer either. Yet they make a good snack since they are small, not too sweet or oily, in other words, less fattening than the traditional cupcakes. Worth a try if you are craving for a guilt-free cupcake treat. The cupcakes look rather "home-made"…Read More

Very nice shop, so so chocolates....
The Peninsula Boutique & Café
2014-01-30
The Peninsula Boutique looks really beautiful now! The newly-renovated shop is very modern and grand - I miss the old look but the new design stands out more. I don't have a picture of it so definitely check it out. I came here for hampers. They are so pricey but I came here for the "Peninsula" brand name. It was a gift for a client so I did not get to taste it and hence could not comment on it much. I also picked up some chocolates for myself. Green Tea White chocolate The green tea taste was quite strong but the white chocolate was mediocre. It was very very sweet. Strawberry White chocolateI wish I got a milk or dark chocolate instead. Again, the white chocolate was too sweet and the texture felt like cheap / old fashion chocolate. The appearance of the chocolates look very old fashion too. They were not bad but I expected more from the five-star hotel. Looks like the hotel revamped their image but the quality of their products remained the same. …Read More
