After being mauled by literally over a dozen restaurant promoters physically dragging us upon walking into the Chungking building (foreigners and ladies beware of assault and/or pickpockets), we finally arrived at the restaurant.
Environment:
The place was simply an apartment unit converted into a room with tables and chairs and murky lighting. Sanitary condition was poor even by local standards. But it’s expected considering the location.
Service:
Our waiter arrived speaking little to no English. We had to order everything by number and finger pointing. Even simple phrases like “what is number 22?” and “Let’s get number 28 instead of 18” were all mistakenly understood to be orders of all numbers mentioned. Half of the food order was messed up and we had to send back food we didn’t order and cancel food that never came with struggles.
Food quality:
The dishes were all less than impressive to say the least. The portion was small and the taste was pretty bad. We tried not to think about the sanitary condition in the kitchen as we saw our waiter’s dark fingernails. One of us ordered the “coconut juice” and it came out as a glass of thick cheap canned coconut milk from the supermarket in room temperature with candy coconut shreds. Since English communication was simply unavailable we didn’t even bother to send back the drink and it was left untouched after one sip.
Overall:
Terrible experience. Can’t really think of one positive aspects. Once again fell victim of fake internet reviews. Feel strongly to write and share my experience to counter the trolls.
In case you doubt the credibility of this review as I normally do to all reviews on the internet now, I advise you to go up to the restaurant and see it for yourself before deciding.
