I've dined at various Soon Yi branches in Taiwan before; they are well-established over there as vendors of fresh, high quality tuna at affordable prices. So I couldn't wait to give it a try as soon as I found out about the new branch in Hong Kong! First up was the famous Tuna Miso Soup. It tastes pretty much the same as in Taiwan - rich in flavour from both tuna and miso, everything was just right. It's also complimentary throughout the opening period, so I couldn't have expected any more there.

Next up was Tuna Temaki. Not much to comment on here; the tuna was fresh and the nori crispy. The wasabi was more than necessary though.

Onto the core of the meal - Otoro Nigiri. What can I say - sumptuous and delightful, it's as if I can still feel it melting in my mouth as I'm typing this up! The Flamed Tuna Nigiri was pretty decent - it's a completely different style with a milder taste of tuna. The Tuna Nigiri with Scallion was surprisingly good too, the strong flavours of tuna and scallion combining well to form a unique taste.

Again, the Otoro Sashimi was sheer brilliance, mouth-watering and savoury. The Chutoroand Agami are decent in their own rights.

Now here's a special dish - Tuna with Grapefruit sushi, who would've thought? This inventive combination actually works brilliantly; the richness of tuna and the sweetness of grapefruit mingle to create an exquisite dish.

Time for some cooked stuff. I haven't tried any of the grilled tuna in Taiwan before, so it's a first for me. This one is Grilled Tuna Tripe, another pretty inventive dish. It's delicate and chewy, and definitely something new. I also tried out the Grilled Tuna Tail, which I unfortunately omitted to take a picture of. It's soft and tender like chicken meat, but retains the flavour from tuna.

At this point I was pretty stuffed, but I felt I had space for one more dish so I chose the most appetising cooked dish on the menu - Grilled Tuna Dices. It's texture is a bit like beef, but still tastes like tuna. Combined with the scallions sprinkled on top, it's almost like a piece of art!!

That's all I had capacity for this time, but overall I was very impressed with the tuna offered at this Hong Kong branch, it's definitely met the high standards set by the Taiwanese branches. I will be visiting again soon!
