Tried the famous egg tarts and sugar puffs today. The price has risen a little, so each was $8. Not too pricey...but definitely more expensive than most bakeries. I guess you pay for the name though. The egg tarts do look very pretty--perfectly round with even crusts. As for taste though...they don't taste any different from regular egg tarts. In fact, it's not as rich tasting at ones I find in local bakeries. The best part is supposed to be the crust, which is cookie/pie-like rather than flaky,

In fact, it's not as rich tasting at ones I find in local bakeries. The best part is supposed to be the crust, which is cookie/pie-like rather than flaky, but it wasn't very crispy. I bought 2 and saved one for later...an hour or so later the crust was already chewy.
Overall, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't especially good either.
The sugar puff was very disappointing. It was warm so I expected it to be crispy
on the outside and soft on the inside. Instead, the outside was greasy (from being fried) and not crispy, while the inside was this weird soggy egg texture/taste. The outside wasn't very evenly coated with sugar either. I regretted buying the sugar puff after just one bite...
Moral of the story is that this bakery is hyped for their unique egg tarts, but it's honestly nothing special. You'll be more satisfied with a fresh, hot egg tart from your local bakery.
