Tucked away in the bustling streets of Wan Chai, Cat Eye presents itself as a haven for Japanese curry enthusiasts. Stepping inside, the atmosphere is casual and inviting, perfect for a relaxed meal. I was drawn to the "Creamy Chicken and Beef Stew with Omurice" (忌廉雞肉/燴牛肉汁蛋包飯), a dish that promised a symphony of textures and flavors.

The star of the show was undoubtedly the creamy chicken and beef stew. The sauce boasted a rich, savory depth, perfectly balancing the sweetness of the cream with the umami notes of the meat. Each spoonful was a delightful journey for the taste buds. The omurice itself was a masterpiece – fluffy eggs enveloping perfectly cooked rice, creating a comforting and satisfying base for the flavorful stew.

However, the experience wasn't without its flaws. The beef, while flavorful, was slightly rough around the edges. A touch more tenderness would have elevated the dish to new heights. Additionally, while the portion size was adequate, the balance between meat and rice felt a bit skewed. As a self-proclaimed meat lover, I couldn't help but yearn for a more generous serving of beef and chicken to fully complement the exquisite sauce and omurice.

Despite these minor hiccups, Cat Eye delivers a satisfying Japanese curry experience at a reasonable price point for the Wan Chai district. If you're in the area and craving a comforting and flavorful curry adventure, Cat Eye is worth considering. Just be aware of the potential for a slight meat-to-rice imbalance and a touch of toughness in the beef.
