I was really looking forward to eating at Mr. Taco Truck after having purchased coupons from BabyBamboo. I should have taken the hint when we walked into place and heard another patron say "Ok guys, next time we'll just eat at KFC!" But it's so difficult finding good Mexican food in HK, so I was insistent on trying it.

Upon an initial look at the menu, I noticed the food was a bit overpriced... this is considering the decor and the cuisine itself. Mexican cuisine is not known to be expensive, so when you charge $89 for a chicken quesadilla, it'd better be good.
And besides, Mr. Taco Truck is set up more like a fast food joint than an actual restaurant, so I think the food should be priced accordingly. Anyway, my girlfriend and I ordered a grilled fish taco ($18), a pork taco ($21), a chicken quesadilla supreme ($89) and a large Jamaica drink ($18).

The first item that arrived at our table was the quesadilla "supreme". Why the quotes, you ask? Because it was anything BUT supreme. Like I said, for $89, I was expecting it to be loaded with ingredients. My girlfriend and I stared in a little bit of awe, thinking "this is it?" But we still decided to give them the benefit of the doubt, thinking maybe the quality will make up for the quantity. Honestly, it wasn't that bad, but then again, it wasn't great either. It tasted like a quesadilla you could buy from Taco Bell (I wish they would open one up in HK!). The pork taco came next, and as soon as I held it up, grease came dripping out. Enough said. Finally came the fish taco... After taking a bite, my girlfriend asked "Where's the fish?" Again, enough said. The drink was ok... it was sour, as expected.

After finishing our food, we were far from full, but decided to cut our losses and go. We would spend the next 10 minutes at the counter dealing with the very incapable cashier. She seemed incredibly confused as to how to handle our coupons... Honestly, shouldn't the owners/managers inform their staff as to how to deal with these matters instead of having your customers wait 10 minutes to pay their bill? To top that off, they made a mistake on our bill, saying that we ordered a pork quesadilla instead of a pork taco. What made things worse was that the cashier insisted that WE were the ones who made the mistake and had indeed ordered the pork quesadilla. First of all, I think I've eaten enough Mexican food to know the difference between a taco an a quesadilla. Second of all, don't make it seem like I made a mistake when you can't even enter an order in correctly.

All in all, we wound up using both of our coupons ($160 worth) and had to pay $24 on top of that (apparently we went over a bit, plus the 10% service charge). So essentially, we had 2 really small tacos, a quesadilla and a drink for $184. And at that moment, I thought to myself... I guess that guy was right.... I would have been better off going to KFC!

And as I told my girlfriend, I would not go back to Mr. Taco Truck if was the last restaurant in HK and I was starving to death!
