A stormy weekday saw found me trying out this fourth floor cafe. I wasn't quite sure how to get in, (I think you're meant to buzz up and they can unlock the grate-door), but I was looking at the bells in a confused fashion and the security man let me in. This meant that the staff were a little confused to see me when I arrived (about 3pm I think) but welcomed me in anyway. I wasn't quite sure how to get in, (I think you're meant to buzz up and they can unlock the grate-door), but I was looking at the bells in a confused fashion and the security man let me in. This meant that the staff were a little confused to see me when I arrived (about 3pm I think) but welcomed me in anyway.
The strangest thing about the place...I was alone there for almost a whole hour, just me and three members of staff. The woman was especially friendly, she was writing up a new menu and hadn't yet got to the English version so she sat next to me to translate. I kind of already knew what I wanted though, I had been craving fried carbs so I ordered the cheese fries and coffee.
I had drip coffee which was prepared in front of me in quite a ceremonial fashion. It made the whole experience a little more surreal. My own coffee performance. It was delicious coffee though. Normally I don't like black coffee but I really enjoyed this cup, and the glass it was served in was beautiful, it had a curved bottom which was a little thicker to keep it up-right and came on a small wooden holder so that it could wobble gently without going too far.
The chips were chips. They did what I wanted them to do and the cheese was a nice addition.
After about forty-five minutes a few more customers arrived but the spacious nature of the cafe and the rain on the windows meant that even then it felt quite secluded.
