I was very excited to try Malaymama's food. A Malaysian myself, I was hoping to find something close to home in HK.
It's a bit weird walking along Mercer St as there's Katong Laksa on your left, and Malaymama on your right, inadvertently, you'd feel that tension between the two fighting to be the preferred restaurant for laksa at Mercer St. (If I could add here that Katong would be my choice for Laksa).
Not in the mood for Laksa, I went into Malaymama and ordered its Beef Rendang. Wrong move.
First of all, the beef itself was EXTREMELY tough. Enough said.
Second of all, the sauce tasted weird (bad weird). It was definitely salty, and it had streaks of lemongrass (guessing) in it (not really a bad thing), and it was sort of dark green in color, and that was it. It was just salty and had a weird green color to it.
I hate to write negative reviews cause we do want businesses to do good and prosper. So please take this as an advice for improvement because that was really a horrible meal. Sorry.
