葫同日式燒肉 (上環)

To a food lover like me, there is never too much Japanese BBQ and this place has always been on my list since ages ago because of all the positive comments despite being a low-profile restaurant. What’s more, you can simply sit back, relax, and enjoy your food as everything will be handled by the waiting staff (yes, including the fun yet challenging cooking part).

So I finally went all the way to Sheung Wan with my friend to check out what this place and their food are like. Turned out it’s a tiny cosy place adorned with some artsy paintings.

All the BBQ essentials including beef, pork and chicken are covered, not to mention their best partner, fruity mocktails and beers. We ended up picking a dinner set for 2 cos we were simply lazy.

One thing worth noting is that all the ingredients were marinated and prepared to order to ensure freshness. It definitely gives the chefs more work but it’s worth the effort.

More than 10 items were included in the dinner set so here we go the food photos and comments.

Japanese salad was a healthy kick-start to the meal with the slightly sour and light dressing. Would have been even more appetizing had the veggie been more chillied.

Salted ox tongue is always a good idea for BBQ, regardless of the style and the green onions in this one added an extra aroma to the chewy ox tongue. Two pieces for each person was just not enough!

BBQ sauce beef (left) which I guess was short ribs were tender, flavoursome but still beefy. Loved the mildly sweet sauce that made them even more delectable. Spicy miso rib finger (right) was a bit more fatty and tenderer. The meat was well marinated and we both enjoyed the spicy kick in it.

Salted Matsusaka pork was another popular item and you can’t really go wrong with that bouncy and fatty cut. This ones didn’t surprise us, but were as tasty as expected.

Butter boneless chicken leg and chicken wings were a bit bland but I liked the lightly charred and crispy outer layer. The chicken wings were also halved so they can be cooked and eaten more easily. Very thoughtful of the owner.

And then there came a veggie platter with zucchini, king oyster mushroom, green pepper and sweet corn to balance out all the fats we have taken in. Nothing really stood out tastewise but sweet corn and green peppers topped my list since they were juicy and fresh.

Japanese rice ball was a nice and filling dish with the lightly seasoned rice, crunchy crust and sliced seaweed.

Finally there was the cold soba to end the dinner with but we were way too full to finish it even though the noodles went well with the sesame dressing. Maybe they can replace this or the rice ball with a sweet note like ice cream or pudding to make it a genuinely complete meal.

So this place really lives up to the great expectations and just give it a try if you are a laid-back BBQ lover.

Nara Thai Cuisine (尖沙咀)

This place has been on my list for a while thanks to the lovely decor and photogenic items and I finally visited with a friend who’s into Thai food as well.



Really loved the cute colours and girlish vibes that’s perfect for dates and girls’ night out.





We were not that hungry so we picked seafood tom yum with fish maw, signature northeastern appetiser platter and an iced pandan longan honey tea, as these are dishes not as commonly seen in other restaurants out there.

The prawn crackers made pretty good starters and went well with my refreshing pandan longan drink.


The tom yum soup was full of seafood and huge pieces of fish maw, while packed with sour and spicy flavours at the same time. The appetiser platter was quite satisfying too, especially the pork balls and Thai sausages. Lettuces were also included to balance the out the strong flavours from the meat.







Overall the food was pretty good even though a bit on the pricey side. Service was amazing as all the waiters were really attentive. They passed us wet tissues before we requested them and moved the plates around to make sure we could easily grab our food.

Exotica Gelatea (銅鑼灣)

Walked past this interesting little spot that serves burgers, coffee and gelato with very artistic decor so I grabbed a late lunch there.

Felt like trying out everything and I ordered a wagyu burger (tasting size), iced coconut black and 2 scoops of premium gelato.

The coffee was a light and refreshing one with coconut water that satisfied my coffee craving.

The burger was stuffed with tomatoes, lettuce, cheese and a beef patty. It looked pretty standard but all the ingredients were fresh with the beef patty being juicy, cooked to medium and well seasoned.


As for gelato, I picked osmanthus chrysanthemum and D24 durian flavours as both are rarely seen in other places. The flavours were really pronounced and surprisingly I liked the former one better for the light and subtle taste. The durian one was also enjoyable but was slightly too icy.
Overall a good place to enjoy some burgers, gelato and me time.

媽咪雞蛋仔 (尖沙咀)

This joint has been recommended by Michelin Guide 4 years in a row but it’s the first time for me to have it. Better late than never, right?
Egg waffles have gone so pricey these days and I don’t want too much going on in mine so I picked a plain matcha one. After around 15 minutes, I got mine fresh off the waffle maker.
Each pocket was nearly 90% full, crunchy outside and fluffy inside. The matcha flavour was noticeable but could be stronger. Overall it was worth a try but probably not something I would crave all the time.

幸福班戟 (銅鑼灣)

As much as I love eating out, I am not a fan of staying in line for hours so I usually wait till the hype to die down a bit before visiting super popular restaurants. Heard that the queue is still long even though it has opened for a while, I went there with my foodie buddy at 9:30am on a Sunday morning. Our strategy worked well and we were seated right after it was opened as we were the very first batch of customers.
We had to order happy pancake (original flavour) for our first visit. It was still a 15-minute wait since the everything was made to order.
The pancakes looked plump and thick, with a scoop on ice cream on top and syrup on the side. They were incredibly fluffy, soft and light but still pretty filling. The slob of cream totally stole the show with it’s airy texture and pronounced honey flavour. Every single bite of the cream on pancake took me to cloud 9 and we couldn’t stop going wow.
The original flavour was so good that we had to go back for more the week after. We had milk tea with granola and strawberry cheesecake flavours in one go. The pancakes were perfectly done like the first time but the milk tea sauce was too milky and the cheesecake cream was a bit overpowering. We reckon the original flavour was the best and will definitely be back for more.
