Four Seasons has been on the list for a while. It is an iconic bo zai fan place and we wanted to go and see what the big fuss was about.  It has legendarily long queues, but after eating there, we were no further forward in knowing why.

So we arrived early on a Friday night and were rewarded with a joyfully short line.  After a wait of no more than 20 minutes, we were seated and ordering.  We chose the oyster omelette, a pork and Chinese sausage clay pot rice and a chicken and Chinese sausage one.

Here, there was another long wait, but they were packed and we kind of expected it.  After another 20 minutes or so, the oyster omelletes came out.  These are a Hong Kong delicacy, but in all honesty, they were not that good.  That's not to say that theirs were particularly bad, but the dish just didn't work for us.  It was super greasy, the oysters and duck eggs were lost in all that oil.  We felt like it didn't really make the best of all of the ingredients and just obliterated them.  I am sure that it is a matter of taste and that if you grew up eating it, you would love it.

Next came the bo zai fan.  We lifted the lid and poured in soy sauce, then replaced it.  After about five minutes, we took off the lid again and stirred them up.  The rice had a slightly smokey taste which was pleasant, but all in all, it was a bit of a boring dish.  I loved the crispy rice at the bottom (burnt rice is always great), but the pork was more bone than meat and if there had been no soy, the dish would have tatsted of nothing.  The Chinese sausage was fine. I like it, but my wife did not.  I guess the sweet preserved meat taste is not everyone's thing.

Basically, I am sure that what we got is the same at almost any bo zai fan place, but it wasn't that special for us.  When we left, the queue had become a monster that went all the way down the street.  Still don't know why.
