A new gelato place called Petite House has opened up in Causeway Bay. Located in Times Square, I walked by one day after work and discovered this opening promotion: $1 for one scoop of gelato! We chose two flavors. Pistachio (on the left) and raspberry (on the right). The gelato was creamy and smooth. The pistachio was intense and rich. The raspberry tasted like fresh fruit. I was addicted.

Petite House serves their gelato covered in containers where they are constantly mixing them to ensure they are smooth and creamy. I had never seen this before so that was interesting.

The menu is in English and Chinese. Along with gelato, they also serve gelato based drinks and desserts such as pancakes, waffles and egg puffs with gelato. You order at the cashier and you wait for your order. There is no 10% service charge.

So, on my day off, I returned again with a friend so we could have a sweet break.

Gelato comes in four prices: one flavor for $35, two for $55, three for $65 and  family size for $85. If you want it in a cone, it costs a few dollars more. I'm unsure why as usually cup and cone is a the same price? We shared three flavors of gelato for $65. Flavors were matcha, lemon ginger and hazelnut. A fairly decent scoop of gelato! The matcha was fairly good, not too sweet with that a strong tea flavor. The hazelnut was wonderful and it was like eating Nutella straight from the jar. Lemon ginger was an interesting flavor. A subtle taste of ginger with the freshness of lemon. I think this was a really good palate clenser type of flavor.

Strawberry Pancakes ($78). The pancakes came with a scoop of vanilla gelato and was topped with fresh strawberries, strawberry sauce, roasted peanuts and a container of caramel sauce to pour on top. There was a squirt of whipped cream (which was actually bland as they didn't bother to flavor it at all). The pancakes were not only pretty to look at, they were light and fluffy. The vanilla gelato complimented it well.

Hibiscus Yuzu Frappe ($48 regular size).  I decided on an icy drink and something not too sweet. This fit the bill. There was a strong fruity taste withe sharpness of yuzu and a sweetness of hibiscus. A fairly good balance and something that would be double awesome on a hot summer day.

There are so many options at this place. Close enough to my home that I can see myself being a regular here. Especially since the gelato is so good.
