愛咖啡同事除Holly Brown也推介Barista Jam給我,心水餐廳太多之故還未特意來試,其實她就在上環煲仔飯對面,趁Honhon們未到之前先來杯咖啡。狹長小店在週末下午真的蠻多人,雖然還有樓上雅座,但要好好享受咖啡時光則稍為熱鬧了,幸好還有面對咖啡BAR的獻花握手位給我這個懶惰客人,近廚得食之餘還不用走得太遠嘛。不用看餐牌就點了PICCOLO($30),今次的拉花有點藝術家,不對稱的心心就如我一樣的偏心。 小小一杯的笛子咖啡飄出來的咖啡香有點酸,幸而入口卻沒有什麼酸度,奶泡也打得夠香滑,只是咖啡香偏輕柔,當也沒有想要的餘韻,在我而言這杯啡比奶多的咖啡仍未夠勁道,只怪自己沒有特意挑選較濃口味的咖啡豆吧。大門右側有著多款咖啡豆,問過店員今次用了HOUSE BLEND #17的咖啡豆,如果重臨的話這款咖啡香不太夠濃的咖啡豆,在個人選擇中可以剔除了。小小咖啡店除了供應咖啡外,其carbonara似乎也蠻受歡迎,坐了不足十分鐘已有2名客人點了三份,要是沒有那麼熱鬧,在這享受一下意粉咖啡及甜品也是樂事。繼Holly Brown後這裡的咖啡師也是年青秀氣,跟客人視線接觸時也報以友善微笑,笑

不用看餐牌就點了PICCOLO($30),今次的拉花有點藝術家,不對稱的心心就如我一樣的偏心。

小小一杯的笛子咖啡飄出來的咖啡香有點酸,幸而入口卻沒有什麼酸度,奶泡也打得夠香滑,只是咖啡香偏輕柔,當也沒有想要的餘韻,在我而言這杯啡比奶多的咖啡仍未夠勁道,只怪自己沒有特意挑選較濃口味的咖啡豆吧。

大門右側有著多款咖啡豆,問過店員今次用了HOUSE BLEND #17的咖啡豆,如果重臨的話這款咖啡香不太夠濃的咖啡豆,在個人選擇中可以剔除了。

小小咖啡店除了供應咖啡外,其carbonara似乎也蠻受歡迎,坐了不足十分鐘已有2名客人點了三份,要是沒有那麼熱鬧,在這享受一下意粉咖啡及甜品也是樂事。

繼Holly Brown後這裡的咖啡師也是年青秀氣,跟客人視線接觸時也報以友善微笑,笑一笑世界果更美妙,這也是自己喜歡泡咖啡店的原因之一。

十一點多來到,枱已經滿了,兩個人唯有坐bar枱。點了一個Turkey club,還有一個煙肉煎蛋包。煙肉煎蛋包表面很有光澤,很鬆軟蛋煎得剛好,好吃。Turkey Club本是咸食,但這裏的除了有煎香的Turkey外,還有芝士、煙肉脆和紅莓醬。紅莓醬的甜味和Turkey出奇的夾,加上煙肉脆的口感,出乎意料地好吃。點了杯flatwhite,入喉細滑,這裏的咖啡亦很有水準。

We were received with a warm smile by a staff who handed us menus. Then, the chubby dude that I've seen people complaining about on openrice took over. 
 My sister thought that he was rude because when she asked about cold drinks, he asked her to look at the menu so she decided not to order any drinks at all. I personally thought that he wasn't rude becasue at least he smiled and seemed friendly, maybe just a bit socially awkward. 

Taste+ value: 
I love my coffee so I got a single latte and my sister and I shared an Earl Grey Creme Brulee and a Truffle  Brownie Cake. I have no idea how much everything was but the bill came to $96, which means nothing was over $40 so I think it was not too expensive since most desserts are usually over $40 and the coffee could have been too but they weren't. We tried the Earl Grey dessert first. The mousse was smooth and fluffy. The taste of Earl Grey wasn't too strong, same as the custard inside. However, the two chocolate bits on top were rich and yummy. Not a bad dessert at all, but out of the two, the brownie tasted better. Although it was called a brownie, it was nothing like a brownie. The bottom was creamy and more of a mousse texture. Then, it had a hard chocolate top making it look like a volcano.
 Both my sister and I wondered how they shaped the top that way. Anyways, it was a REALLY good dessert. 
 I would recommend this over the Earl Grey one. 
I think their latte is the best I've had in HK so far. 
That's all that needs to be said. 
What's more relaxing than having a spoon of dessert then a sip of coffee with my favourite jazz music playing? HA! I was one satisfied person when I was left.

I and my husband had ordered 2 piccolos, while mom ordered flat white and dad ordered cappucciono. Though these coffees were still not bad, the milk froth was not as smooth and sweet as last time. And the espresso base was not as strong as the previous time. Getting worse now? Did they change the milk, or the coffee beans, or the proportion of the coffee and milk, or did they change the barista?

Anyway, for the arrangement and coffees are getting worse, I and husband would rather choose the other cafes.
Other Info. : This is not the first time the fat guy thinks he is supreme, but he doesnt know he makes the guests angry and dont wanna come back again!

烈日當空, 酷熱警告, 胃口都無, 真是什麼也嚥不下, 路經上環的蘇杭街, 有一間咖啡店, 看似很專業的, 就去試一試, 店面不大, 有二樓, 客人都是華洋集處, 在收銀處點了一個火雞三文治及Caffee Latte, 坐下等食物送上, 首先來的是Latte, 咖啡豆沒有什麼特別香氣, 但整杯很豐厚, 奶沬很好, 只是咖啡的熱度不足, 喝下去, 有點和和暖的感覺! 過了不久, 火雞三文治上來了, 看起來挺不錯, 份量足夠我吃, 不大不少, 麵包烘得剛剛好, 最好味的是內有紅莓醬, 配合火雞, 炸好的煙肉, 還有我不太喜好的芝士, 但整體配合得好夾 , 好好味!感覺過了一個悠閒的中午, 多謝夏天!

As soon as you enter Barista Jam, you will notice that this place is meant for some serious business, with an impressive La Marzocco espresso machine working at full speed and many hip coffee geeks gliding in and out of the cafe.

I am no coffee expert, but the coffee shop's sense of artistry was rubbing off on me as soon as I entered. This small place has a down-to-earth, industrial decor, and is split over two floors, with the coffee counter and a few small tables on the first floor, and a long communal table upstairs. The second floor, even though more spacious, is less comfortable than the first floor as the toilet is located upstairs, and also because the dimly-lit area feels a bit like a store room.

My friends and I came on Saturday for an early lunch, and the place filled up very quickly. Some breakfast dishes, sandwiches and pastas were available.

Barista Jam是一家由澳洲人開的咖啡店,很多愛咖啡的人都會特意來品嘗這裡的優質咖啡。Barista Jam的食物不是重點,只供應幾款三明治,意大利麵和一些甜品和蛋糕,但我覺得這裡的食物也不錯。最重要的是咖啡十分好喝,難怪小小的店內都長期坐滿了客人。

(1) We knew that coffee would be the star of the meal and that the food would only take a backseat. However, we were still a bit dismayed that at 12.30pm, linguine was already sold out, so that we were only left with penne and spaghetti. When we got around to eating the food, though, our spirits were immediately lifted. The creamy smoked salmon spaghetti ($95) was cooked to a perfect al dente texture, and the cream sauce, thick without being too heavy, dressed the pasta marvellously. The amount of salmon was just right, and the smoked salmon tasted wonderful.

The duck breast was firm and flavourful, but it was the alluringly sweet and creamy pumpkin sauce that was truly memorable. (4) I ordered a cup of Latte ($33) and at first sip I already knew that this was different from most coffees elsewhere. The coffee in the latte was a house blend, with nutty and caramel flavours and a little spicy finish. The milk was hot and frothy, and the amount of milk was perfectly balanced with the amount of coffee. I now understand why people from all over Hong Kong (if not overseas) can't wait to lay their hands on a cup of coffee here.

With their consummate expertise in coffee, it is no surprise that Barista Jam is such a popular haunt for coffee lovers. Even though the space is small and the location is a bit out of the way, the exquisite coffee blends will surely make up for their shortcomings in other aspects.

Barista Jam is a café with an attitude. On a Sunday afternoon, the upper floor of the 2-storey café was closed. When we entered, the place was almost full with some 8 diners. As we saw on a black board a few types of special coffees available that we were not familiar with, we asked one of the 5 baristas hiding behind the bar area what he would recommend. In a very blunt tone, he declined to give any advice as he didn’t know what our preference or acceptance level were. He recommended us to try only the ordinary one such as cappuccino first. I totally understood his ground but his attitude and the pride he carried on his face made me think I had offended him. Finally we ordered an Americano, a house brew and two pieces of cake. All the baristas behind the bar were chatting and paid very little attention to patrons. I am sure that some of them but not all are very knowledgeable about coffee. After we finished our first round of coffee, I decided to give a try to one of their specialties, a barista with a more reasonable sense asked what characters or flavours of coffee beans I preferred, this was the minimum type of service and hospitality I was looking for. Passion for coffee is one thing, but I believe hospitality and patience are also equally important for running a café.

Only 3 types of cakes were served on the day and they’re from other supplier. Having said that, they were of high quality and with reasonable price. This black forest was with dark chocolate sponge cake, preserved cherries and top with layers of dark chocolate fold.

(one just orders at the counter and pays only after eating.) i remember the first time i was there and was troubled as to which coffee i should have, he offered advice and said for first-timers cappuccino would be a safe and good choice - an excellent choice it turns out!

ordered spaghetti with spinach, mushroom and chicken and regular hot cappuccino (with a $10-dollar discount for the coffee as a meal deal).

the cappuccino arrived first, with a heart.

i dislike thin coffees.
digressing a little, i had a flat white takeout last time from this same place which to my astonishment was rather disappointing because it was just... too thin (might be better if not takeout(?) - will try it next time). so i was anxious to taste this cappuccino again, hoping that it still deserved the crown, that i would not lose my favourite.
and i am happy to say that the cappuccino was delectable (not sour but tinged with bitterness, and slightly strong in terms of its taste) and smooth as ever, which was when i realized the one thing that distinguished this cappuccino was the FOAM

it was my first time to have pasta at barista jam (sandwiches for all previous visits) and it was a very good experience: adequate portion, spaghetti was done exactly as i would want it (not too hard nor too soft), sauce was delicious (though a teeny bit too thin for my liking) and i love mushrooms.

on the whole, the lunch solo was satisfying, and the cappuccino is still my favourite cappuccino in town.

Other Info. : as a student, i look for plugs when i am in cafes which are the places where i would eat and charge my laptop and type notes and study. thought this might be helpful for fellow students so, there was [u]no plug on the ground floor[/u] of barista jam. (note to self: check out the first floor next time i visit). in fact, [u]one cannot study at barista jam[/u] because one time when i was there for lunch by myself and i took out my notes and highlighters and was just about to start studying, i was politely informed by the lad at the counter i mentioned above that studying was not allowed in the cafe - not that this makes the place less likable as a restaurant but one just reminds oneself that this is not a place for studying. :P

Highly recommended!
Its appearance was not attractive to me- but its name was.
And it did not disappoint me- it tasted better than it looked and it was awesome!
It was a moist sponge cake with earl grey cream on top.
All of us were indulged in the richness and the freshness of the taste of earl grey, and we unanimously agreed that this was the dessert of the day!

It was named as 'Bitter choc brownie' in the display, but marked as 'Bitter choc mousse' on the receipt. I suppose the latter name was the appropriate one.
Under the chocolate crisp, there was chocolate mousse.
I think overall it was a bit too sweet; but it still had a good chocolate taste.
It was one of my friends T's favourite.

It looked quite similar to Bitter choc mousse (above), except that the chocolate crisp was in darker colour with sugar frosting.
However its choc taste was overwhelmed by the sweetness of the icing sugar, and was not as rich as it appeared to be...
Underneath the choc crisp, it was just a very ordinary black forest cake- nothing surprising.

Lovely latte art on my coffee mocha

I could smell the choc- but I could not really taste it when I drank. But I still considered the coffee was nice.

My friend C ordered vanilla choc. She said it had a rich vanilla taste- but only in the first few slips.
My friend D ordered hazelnut choc. It had a good rich hazelnut flavour.

Environment/ service
Although we made a reservation for 4, it seemed that the waiter did not actually reserve a table for us.
Given that there were no seats available on the ground floor, we went upstairs, where the ventilation was poor.
We were fortunate enough that some customers left and we could get a seat on the ground floor later on.

It was a nice quiet place with some soft music.
Packages of coffee beans and accessories were neatly placed around the cafe.

The waiters were friendly- but could be more helpful by giving us a more detailed description of coffee when we asked. After all, I suppose this was a cafe specializing in coffee/ espresso.

Next?
We spent an enjoyable afternoon here.
The price was reasonable and the food and drinks were generally good.
I would probably return for its Earl Grey Creme Brulee, and would like to try if there are some other non-choc desserts.

Determined not to waste the trip we ordered take out - a latte and a bitter chocolate brownie. Latte was exceptional (as good as can be considering it was in a paper cup), but the brownie was too sweet and more form than function in my mind.

I would return to try other coffee, but it'd be a better experience if only the kitchen is not behind the counter!

Chicken mushroom Linguini with spinach and cream sauce (1/10)
We have waited almost 20-30 minutes before the lunch was serving, hence we had high hope. Other than the Linguini was al dente, I really don’t know what was good. Everything was bland, the mushroom was grilled, but you don’t feel it was grilled, and there were no seasoning. The chicken was extremely bland, no seasoning. The sauce was okay, I can taste the spinach and creamy, lacked pepper. To sum up, I think a primary school kid would do a better seasoning than the Chef at Barista Jam.

I understand you are under equipped, but all the dishes they cooked were lacked seasoning, that is absolutely ridiculous. Seriously, you need a new entrée Chef, if you can afford it, hire me, will do a much better job than he is.

However, I will always come back for dessert, because the desserts were just sensational. It never disappoints you, always come with surprises. In my humble opinion, the desserts are better than something called Ritz Carlton - Café 103.
