Overpriced lunch
Auntie AYI @wellwellwell
2024-09-19
Went here with friends for a quick lunch catch up. We each chose a set lunch (dim sum starter + main) and selected a tea (because you get a 25$ tea charge either way). The Har Gau skin was of average consistency and the prawn itself didn’t have any counter balance such a as sesame oil to its own fishy flavour. The spicy and sour fish soup was alright but not blown off my feet. Portion of fish was generous. One of us chose noodles over rice. It came immediately and by the time the mains arrived it got quite soft and soggy, you weren’t eating noodles but lumps of noddles stuck together. Rose oolong tea weirdly had a sour taste at the end of the meal. We each paid 263$ which I found grossly over charged.I only recommend this place if you’re not paying or need a nice place to sit and don’t mind the price tag for average food.…Read More

Best German food in Hk
Heimat by Peter Find
2023-09-03
I have been here many times now; for both dinners and lunches. Usually when you think of German food it just feels and sounds heavy; but Peter manages to give all his dishes an elegant twist that’s just very easily palatable yet still homey / delicious. What is also amazing about Peter is the fact that he was able to magically come up with substitutes when we forgot to tell him our dietary restrictions. And it did not taste like a substitute at all but looked and tasted just like an original menu dish.I regularly take my clients here who are always positively surprised. For dinner, you get this amazing Pretzel tower or home-made bread with HK’s best spread. Very easy to get full on that as it’s just so tasty. …Read More

Authentic and LIGHT
Heimat by Peter Find
2023-05-20
I’ve been here many times and this review is a summary of all of them. I’ve had several lunches here as well as normal dinners and wine tasting dinners. With every meal, one of us had some sort of dietary restriction and even on the day Chef Peter managed to magically circumvent and dish up an alternative which looked and tasted just as good (if not better) than the original dish. Dishes range from meaty to vegetarian (for example the Spätzle which are egg noodles with creamy sauce and caramelised onions or white asparagus during its season). The service has always been on point, the decor feels very zen and relaxing for a fine dining restaurant and just the starter bread (and Pretzel tower at dinner) is divine. I’ve had the chicken as well as the veal schnitzel, the creamy egg noodles, smoked fish, white asparagus…. And I can’t tell which one to be my favourite. As a German I’m not only thankful that we finally have a fully authentic German restaurant but also proud for Chef Peter reimagining our comfort food dishes with a fine, and especially not heavy twist. The only reason I am so full each time is because I over-order; but the set lunch is perfectly portioned and cooked to go back to work and focus for the rest of the afternoon. …Read More

Excellent food but canteen setting
EMERALD
2021-05-28
Came to Emerald for dinner with a friend. We had 4 dishes and were very full. The food is beautifully presented and the flavours and textures are fantastic. Unfortunately though the setting feels more like a canteen with its bright light and loud (but friendly) staff.Dan Dan Noodles: tasty but not really Dan DanSweet and sour monkey head mushroom: I no longer want to eat the original Gu Lao Rou - this was a pleasant surprise with the MH mushroom providing a surprising firm texture.Karana special: I don’t remember the name of this dish but Karana is a new vegetarian meat made from jackfruit - and it perfectly resembles fatty mince meat. At least these balls had the same texture. Sauce was nice.Bean curd sheet rolls with Tom Yung Gong sauce: again, lots of texture and the sauce came in a nice sticky way.Would definitely come back for the food (as non-vegetarian); it’s just such a shame the setting is a bit mediocre. BYOB as they don’t sell alcohol. …Read More

Horrible kitchen but lovely staff
37 Steakhouse & Bar HK
2020-06-05
We went for a dinner to this place after having heard and read really good reviews.Sadly, our experience was everything but great. We ordered 2x Chuck Tail Flap, 1x Sirloin and mashed potatoes with egg and truffle for our mains - all in medium rare - as well as "Creamy" Burrata and Chopped Salad for starters. The so called "creamy" burrata was everything but creamy. First, it was TINY (1/2 of a standard mozarella ball), second, had no flavour or soft core. Absolute waste of money. Chopped salad was mainly rocket with some random other items (I found 1 tiny slice of salami - not sure if intended or not) and quite frankly, it was just so plain. On to the mains.Out of 3 steaks we had to return 2. The sirloin had a great cut but was overcooked. One of the chuck flaps was perfect in cut and cooking time - and absolutely delicious steak, very tender and great flavour. The second one had an awful cut (huge tendon) and was overcooked, too. So we returned these. When the new sirloin came out again, it had at least a 30% fat rim and some weird piece of fat/meat hanging off the main piece. Was very close to sending this back again but it was almost 9pm and I just really wanted to eat.The second round of the Chuck Flap was fine. All sauces were disappointing, however the pepper sauce still acceptable. Mashed potatoes with soft boiled egg and truffle cream was really the only dish that was truly enjoyable. Our red wine was also great. For the money we spent it really wasn't a great experience but the staff have been extremely nice and professional. Seems like the chef was in a bad mood and the kitchen manager trying to cut costs serving the awful starters.…Read More

Coming here for lunch from time to time but experience getting worse. Part of my lunchest is soup and chicken sandwich. The apparent pumpkin soup tasted of water boiled with Kumin. No idea where the pumpkin went. It was all watered down and over seasoned. Staff was nice to replace the soup with a drink instead, but they did laugh at me in their native language. Chicken sandwich is generally good, but only if you specifically ask for brown meat. My colleague ate the duck sandwich which was also tasty - but ironically lacking of seasoning. When asking for Tabasco - a very basic condiment for a western restaurant - they didn’t have any spicy sauce. Ketchup is extra, too.Sadly, this was the last time for me here. It all felt like the shop is either trying to save costs or will be closing in the near future.…Read More

Fantastic meat with horrible service
Lardos Steak House
2017-08-09
My family and I have been coming to Lardos for probably at least 8 years, so I dare to say I know this place very well.Whenever we want to reward ourselves with one of HK's best meats (and value for money) we would dine here - so as this time.We had a massive piece of beef and lamp amongst other dishes, totalling 3,500HKD for 5 people - which is not that little money. When we got there it was around 830pm which shouldn't be too late for a Saturday night. Every single dish we had was absolutely to the point and just wonderfully cooked (although the waitress did forget one dish). Absolutely nothing to complain or worry about. Sadly, the staff took over that part. By the time we got all dishes it was around 915 but as said, we ordered huge pieces of meats which don't get eaten within 10 minutes. Also, we obviously wanted enjoy ourselves given it was a seated dinner. At 930 (only 15 min after the food was being served) staff already told us to hurry up because they're closing at 10pm (on a Saturday ?!). Since only 2 more tables were busy (none of them having big meat dishes like us) I dare to say we were the "biggest spenders" and as such deserved to be treated with slightly more respect. The whole discussion between us and the staff ended up quite messy with the head waitress shouting "You're not paying my salary so I can close the restaurant whenever I want!". So, this is it. After 8 years of loyalty we unfortunately will not be dining at Lardos ever again unless there will be new and nice waiters. I don't want to be shouted at to hurry up just because the waiter is in a hurry to go home (we all have to work overtime in HK!).…Read More

小小3340 The * that doesn't add a service charge and they still gave me an excellent dining experience. I had been to this * in the month of August. Even though there was very busy night ,they was unfailingly kind and considerate, smile all the time.

**為食寶寶** Although I think all customers should be treated with respect, I do not agree with your point that just because you're the biggest spender out of the three tables you deserve better service or in your words, slightly more respect. I would say all customers deserve to be treated with respect and treated the same way.....

Overpriced lunch meal
208 Duecento Otto
2017-08-09
I was craving Italian food for lunch so I decided to give 208 a try. Having heard much good about it's generous brunch buffets I couldn't wait to stuff my face with pasta. Staff is very friendly and helpful, got seated immediately. For lunch there's the option of an antipasti buffet (128$), antipasti buffet + pasta (148$) or just pasta (128$). Thining the pasta plate will give me food coma already I decided to ditch the anitpasti buffet (which  consisted of different kinds of salads and a cold cut platter but no cheeses).I opted for the Wagyu beef bolognese parpadelle. Waiting time was short (thank god) and serving looked nice. Unfortunately it was the perhaps tiniest amount of pasta I've ever been served. Flavour was good although lacking the offer of extra grated parmesan since there was hardly any and the pasta al dente. However, having finished the pasta within 5 minutes because it was so little, left me still hungry which is not very practical if you still have a full afternoon of work to finish. There also was no offer of bread / olive oil given that 128$ for less than a handful of pasta is simply rude. Unfortunately I will not come back again (for food) as I don't want to waste my money again. Even ABC Kitchen in the cooked food market serves a more generous portion for a fraction of 208's price tag.…Read More

Coming here regularly whenever I feel like I need to feed a huge hunger in me - the portions are huge!I can basically recommend all dishes from guacamole, fiesta burger, quesadillas, fantastic ceviche and best Chili con carne (amazing beef) to burrito with their special Yucatan pulled pork or, for the very very hungry people, the Chimichanga.Even the cakes they have are worth the calories!Mohan the manager never disappoints; always extremely nice and cheeky with his little tequila after each meal!…Read More

Saddest cheese sandwich
Elephant Grounds
2017-05-12
Came here for a quick lunch meal and decided to go with the cheese sandwich which apparently comes with mozzarella and cheddar, tomato soup and salad.Presentation of the meal was great, the food was ... well. The sandwich was super crispy and had a great flavour of butter on the outside. Sadly, the tiny slice of cheese (which looked like cheddar only, nowhere a sign of mozzarella) was the only topping. That does not qualify for the name of "cheese sandwich"! The tomato soup was alright, even though quite sour which means it came straight from the can without any addition of sugar to at least try to hide the canned source.Salad - which was just a pile of lettuce - was alright too. I guess for those who don't like dressing anyway it was perfect although a bit on the oilier side, for me I needed extra vinegar. My yuzu oolong iced tea was brilliant though - that I can highly recommend!…Read More

Too expensive for canned-meal
il Bel Paese (皇后大道中)
2017-05-04
I came here for a nice Italian lunch Il Bel Paese is usually my source for Italian produce.Since they do extremely expensive special dinners (3000$ per head) I thought lunch set should be similarly good.It consists of soup+salad, main, espresso or juice. The mushroom soup I got was completely tasteless with a weird drizzle of olive oil (why olive? Either truffle or Creme fraiche but not olive!) giving it an oily texture in your mouth.By the looks of it the salad was old from 2 days ago (since yesterday was a public holiday); you could see the rotten ends of the lettuce. There was HALF a cherry tomato in it - but no remarkable dressing. I ended up dipping the edible bits in my vinegar for the bread. After those starters I was prepared for the worst main. When it arrived I could see the "grated Parmesan" came from the factory and not freshly grated (you're the source, come on!). The tortellini filling had hardly any flavour and the dough was definitely old or pre-made long time ago. The tomato sauce must have come straight from the can - it still had the typical sourness to it. You didn't even try to hide the factory-made sauce! If i didn't pay this much money I'd come back. But 138+ 10% service charge is absolutely over the top given it's all old, canned food. Never again. …Read More

KASA

I'm coming here mostly after work out or if I don't want to suffer from food coma and every time it's absolutely delicious! Had all dishes now and my favourites are the beetroot noodles, eggplant, eggplant with tofu and the egg dish (sorry, don't remember the exact names but you'll find them).Although I do suggest to add a bit more flavour to the sauce in the tofu eggplant dish. Everything else is perfect! …Read More
