For Kumanon fans
Kumamoto Café
2014-11-26
Arrived around 2pm.  Lunch time just finished.  So no one was waiting.  But all tables with sofa were occupied.  After sitting down found that there were Kumamon cushion and Kumamon doll sitting on sofa.  That's why all were occupied.  Asked to move there when I saw tables available.  There is minimun charge, $80.00 per head.  A bit strange for a cafe.  Lunch set from $138.00 plus 10% services charge.  Lunch set included soup or drink, main course (rice) and dessert. Upgraded the drink to coffee, added $25.00.  Don't do that.  Not worth at all. First, the portion is an ordinary coffee cup.  And they just stick a Kumamon sticker onto a white coffee cup...... so disappointed.  The Mocha tasted normal only.  Nothing special.Choosed deep fried chicken, fried egg and rice as main course.  I like the cheese on rice.  and the smashed potato salad was fine too.  Deep fried chicken was a bit too dry. Dessert was ok.  Cute Kumamons were around on sofaAll in all, food was ok.  But the bill was $178.00.  It is quite expensive as lunch.  If you are Kumamon fans, you would like it anyway.  Don't forget to get a Kumamon doll, hug and take photos!…Read More

The Spaghetti House
2014-11-01
They put promotion menus with credit card companies at EYE-Catching place at front door.  But no one gave us those menus after sitting down.  Guess had to ask.  Not a good practice. We ordered salad Salmon tasted very good.  But the garlic bread was too grease.  Portion was a bit too small. A pizza set menu which soup was includedThe cream soup smelled very good.  Pizza was so so.  Not special at all.We ordered red wine as well.  House wine from Italy sold out.  haha house wine sold out?!  So we ordered another one from Africa.   It tasted aweful......... Well, our fault.  This is not a place for wine.  For those never been there could give them a try if don't want to wait for a seat =) …Read More

BLT Burger
2014-11-01
Wanted to have burgers and chips. Wide range of choices for burger. Tried the BLT burger and salmon burger. The salmon one was a bit too dry. But still it tasted o.k. Buffalo chicken wings were juicy and not too sour. Love it. Chicken salad was ok but portion was a bit small. Fat potato fries just ordinary one. Nothing special.Pinot Noir from Australia was nice though! Very fruity. Will go there again.…Read More

A relatively quiet bar
Eastside Tavern
2014-10-09
Difficult to find a seat in TST East even during weekdays.   Especially along the waterfront.  Curious why this bar is always quiet.Checked the menu, price was fair.  No harm to try.Took the outdoor seats.  Street and roads were not busy.  So was comfortable to sit outside..  No "buy one get one free" offer during happy hour but drinks were a little bit cheaper even the wine.  We took beers, red wine, tea and seafood and salsa pizza.Surprised they had beer from Hawaii as well.  The seafood and salsa pizza didn't disappoint us.  Lot of prawns, smoked salomon, scallops and cheese on top.  Really tasty.  And it was HKD98 plus 10% onlyOrdered a glass of Pinot Noir as suggested by a guy working there.  Looks like a manager there.  Very fruity.  I really like it.Tea served in a small pot.  You can ask for refill.  Not bad right?Overall, was a happy visit.   Drinks and food came quick.  And servers were there when you needed.  Will try again next time.  Recommend for those who are looking for a place to chat and fed up with crowded and noisy bar.  …Read More

Insomnia

Don't know why this bar is always quiet compared with others bar along.  But that would be easier for you to chat with friends.  And I do love the decoration of it.  Like drinking in a cave.  Surrounded by stones.Arrived there around 7:30pm only two tables were occupied inside.  Might be too early.  We picked the one near big windows.   So could enjoy the atmosphere in the outdoor area as well though not many people there.  Waitresses didn't too eager to serve you as usual.  When we ordered the "All Day Breakfast", she gave us a "wow' response.  I asked her why that response.  She said it's late.  I didn't see any time restriction in ordering "All Day Breakfast" on menu.  And it was not the first time I ordered it at night.  What's wrong?  She just made me feel unwelcome. We ordered cocktails and mojito.  There were lot of flavors for mojito.  And as was during happy hours, it was cheap around $50 per drink.  Lovely live band starts after 10pm!  If you are looking for cheap places for drink and eat, don't mind about services, it is definitely a cool choice in LKF.…Read More

"high class" fast food shop
Deli and Wine
2014-09-11
Not those expensive restaurant you expected in Jardine House.  But it is a fast food shop with variety of choice, Chinese roast duck, cha siu, Asian rice and noodles and Western one likes spaghetti or sandwiches.  And lovely environment, simple but clean.Arrived around 1530.  Ordered food at cashier.  Then went to take your drink and then found a seat.  They would bring your food at table.  Quite busy at that time.  But still able to find a seat.Ordered fish burger with french fries tea set.  The presentation of food was lovely but not the coffee. The coffee looked a bit too milky.  But once took a sip, found that the coffee tasted really good!  smooth and full of coffee aroma.  Like it much.  A little bit hot chilli powder on the french fries, made it special and even more tasty.  Love the thick cut of French fries.  The deep fried fish fillet was delicous as well.  You could taste the fish instead of cornstarch only.  Tea set costs $38.00.  Lunch set around $100.  Will recommend to others.…Read More

Browny Cafe
2014-09-06
Was surfing on Open Rice and looking for a small cafe on Sat morning.  Tired of those fast food shops.  Arrived just slightly after 10am.  Greeted by two staff there.  I was the only customer there as they just opened.  Couldn't make up my mind between cakes and sandwiches.  Should be sandwiches as breakfast but read all comments about cakes.  Looks like better not missed it.  Well, decided to try cake as croissant was not available.  Not sure it my luck or not.  The lady explained each kindof cakes patiently just like a friend.  Well, I like green tea and blueberry one so much.  But I picked a special one "osmanthus tofu cheese cake".  It tasted very good.  Not strong kind of cheese cake.  So the taste of tofu not be covered.  Like the soft texture as well.  Could have more scent of osmanthusHad to have something to drink...... flatwhite, latte, mocha...... green tea latte... hmm.. "Browny".  Wondered if it's their signature coffee.  Well, that friendly lady told me it's espresso mixed with cold milk.  It could be served separately.  So customer could adjust the portion between coffee and milk.  Hot coffee added into cold milk would add different taste level.  So I tried it and asked to serve coffee and milk together.  It looks good.Regreted once taking a sip.  Should ask to serve coffee and milk separately.   It was too much milk for me.  Prefered strong coffee.  And I didn't like the warm feeling of coffee.  Should have a sip of hot coffee and then a sip of cold milk?  Interesting.Decoraton was lovely.  A hand knitted bear with coffee press in one corner.  And there were some travel books you could read while enjoying the meal. The guy there were so friendly too.  He gave me one more cup of water after I finishing the food.  He even asked if I wanted warm water.   And told me I could stay there.  Cake + coffee = HKD44.00When I left found the outdoor corner was so lovely.   It wasn't ready yet when I arrived.  If not, I definitely would sit outside. All in all, a lovely small friendly cafe as other comments.  But could give little advices if they don't mind1) they could think about serving breakfast as they served sandwich.  Just sandwich or toast, add scramble eggs or sausage?  plus coffee.  That would be lovely as a breakfast.  2) there is no napkin...........would be lovely if they could provide it as well. …Read More

Browny Cafe We do want to have more food choices. However, due to our tiny size, esp. the kitchen, we can't provide it. But we will have a new shop in Kwai Fong factory area soon and will able to provide spaghetti, salad, big breakfast and scramble egg etc.

Browny Cafe For Napkin, sugar and straw that placed on the top of our cake fridge to let self-serve. We may try to find a better way to improve our self-serve counter. Sorry for the inconvenience and lack of signage inside our shop.

We had made a reservation but still had to wait while there.  Well, we were not the only one waiting with reservation.  Luckily, wait for 10 mins only but if you only have an hour for lunch, every second counts.  And had to spend another 10 mins queuing up for the lift.  We order lunch setI took vegetable soup instead of salad.  Tasted ok.  Some people might need to add salt.  But I liked it as it was as more healthy. For the main course, there were lot of choices for pasta.  I tried the cold scollops spaghetti.  I really love it during the hot summer.  And the combination of tomato and scollops made the feeling more fresh.  Might be just a little bit too much oil.  Overall, an enjoyable lunch.  …Read More

WIRED CAFE

Went there for Kumamon.  Arrived around 1130am.  There were lot of people there already.  Waited for around 5 mins to get a seat.  Not fully yet but had to wait for staff guiding you for a seat. Simple menu for Kumamon special.  Not much choices....... So easy to make decision. Many Kumamoto Fair posters inside.  Kumamon fans should be happy. It took 25 mins to get the Latte.  But once seeing the cute face of Kumamom, seems it was fine to wait.  And it's only HKD52 plus 10% services charge.  It's acceptable.Lovely view as well.  You could see the design of cup very details.  It earned extra bonus.  Was struggling to choose between pancakes or rice.  They costs the same.  But as I was hungry.  So chosen rice.  Not disappointed at all.  Very smooth and soft omelete.  Tasty ketchup.  Also, fresh vegetable salad.Another suprise after finishing.  You would find a sleeping Kumamon on the plate.  Really so cute.Latte and rice were tasty.  But staff and slow services there deterred customers re-visit.   Staff there were not helpful except one.  When you raised hand or said excuse me, most of them would only gave you a gesture to wait.  Not bothered to come and serve you.  Even when they just standing there.  They avoided eye contact with you.  And it took 25 mins to get the latte ready and 45 mins to get the rice ready. Don't go there if you were in a rush......…Read More

Went there at Friday night.  Glad that no need to wait for a seat even without reservation.  Well, only seats along bar table.  But it was fine.  As we went there for drinks and snack only.  Ordered Tequila and nachos.  Happy hour "buy one get one free" Better not took the seats near the Frozen tequila machine.  Or would be very noisy.......Nacho was tasty.  Tequila not strong.  Tasted like frozen ice to me.  Well, price was fair.Staff there were not interested to give you the second drink.  You have to chase and asked again and again.  But the bill came very quick.  …Read More
