Stunning food & restaurant
Belon
2018-06-06
Went here on a recommendation from a foodie friend, needed a special occasion restaurant to take my mum to on her birthday. I'm so glad I listened - the restaurant itself is elegant and not too flashy or noisy on a Friday night, but still had a nice buzz. The food was beautiful - we went for the chefs tasting menu ($888) and the dishes were superb. From the housemade sourdough bread to start with the best butter I think I've ever had (it's all about the details here) to the Dover Sole which was just perfect, to Chef Daniel's famous millefeuille (I will be coming back purely for this), we could not find fault. Service was flawless and very helpful and friendly, we felt very looked after. They have a great selection of natural wine, too, and were happy to talk us through them.…Read More

Came by for their weekend happy hour - they do a great deal where you can get all you can drink rosé for $198, from 3 and 6pm.The food is my favourite in the area (Star Street is very pretty for Wan Chai! And the restaurant is too) - really different compared to the standard Vietnamese stuff you get in Hong Kong. Try the Cloudy Bay Clams and the sweetcorn to start!I've also been there for lunch (I work in PP3) and their lunch set menu is delicious. I always end up being naughty and getting the Vietnamese coffee flan afterwards too to get me through the day, can't resist.…Read More

Steak you can't beat
La Vache!
2018-06-05
I happily travelled across the harbour for La Vache - the soho one is my go-to date night spot and I wanted to see if TST lived up. It's a big fat yes from me - those delicious fries made it over to Kowloon unchanged, and my steak was perfectly done as always. That sauce, too - could drink it by the bucketful. Fun French vibes make for a great night, not to mention the to-die-for dessert cart... a meal is not complete without a tarte tatin. Wash it all down with their house red, it's a good'un. …Read More

Great pho and vibes
Bun Cha Vietnamese (金豪大廈)
2018-04-12
The pho is pho-nomenal!  Get the gingery broth one, that is the bomb. Great value too, nice and cheap although bottles of wine can get on the pricey side so stick to beers which are quite reasonable. Staff are all Vietnamese and don't speak much English at all (but are nice enough) which adds to the authenticity. Plastic furniture and laminated menus take you to the streets of Vietnam. Love this spot!…Read More

A brand new Punjabi dining experience for HK
New Punjab Club
2018-03-20
WOW. This place truly blew us away, and actually managed to exceed the hype (and there was a LOT of it). We went there for a late-night Saturday dinner, to celebrate my wife's birthday. The staff were AMAZING, special shout out to Sanjit who knocked our socks off and truly went above and beyond to make it special. The whiskey he plied us with at the end (apparently a Punjabi tradition) was almost TOO hospitable... we were pretty merry when we left! Oh and the gin trolley is a really nice touch too, you choose your gin then and there and they make it for you (I'm big on gin and they have Ophir which is my favourite). The food: we let Sanjit/chef do the ordering for us and he chose very well. There was only the two of us but we got to try a variety of different dishes, everything was so flavourful and you could really taste the quality of the ingredients. They use varying levels of spice but nothing is crazy spicy. The samosa chaat was unforgettable, a rainbow of colours and textures that was comfort food on a whole new level, so delicious, and the fish starter (apparently a Punjabi take on English fish & chips) was so delicious we'd have ordered another if we didn't have so much else coming. Glad we paced ourselves because the lamb chops are HUGE, super impressive, but really tender and fell apart from the bone. The sticky toffee carrot cake pudding is possibly the best dessert I've ever eaten. …Read More

MANA! Fast Slow Food
2018-03-20
Love this place so much! Their mixed salads are so delicious and always so consistent. The lemonade is a bit weird, though, give that one a miss but they even have fresh young coconut! I love that Mana is so focused on eco-friendliness and not being so destructive to the environment, especially in HK where we need it the most. The burgers and wraps are awesome too - get the halloumi burger or the Nirvana wrap. Always take my vegan sister here it's her favourite place in HK!If you're going at lunchtime just make sure to get there early to grab a seat cos it gets busy.…Read More

Chôm Chôm
2018-03-20
Went early on a Friday after work - and so glad we did! This spot is buzzing from 6pm. People drinking and having a good time late into the night, and not surprising when the cocktails are this good. We washed down a jug of spicy pho-jito with VFC, the bar's own twist on Vietnamese fried chicken and honestly they are addictive. The manager Robin is so friendly and got us chairs outside while we waited for a table inside. We were supposed to sit at the bar inside (so cool cos you can watch the chef making dishes one by one in front of you!) but the vibe was so fun outside that we stayed out there. We kept eating and drinking for hours, the service is very good since they always make sure you have a drink and kept checking to see if we wanted more food. The ricepaper rolls with avocado are delish and the claypot caramel cod is a must-try too. Definitely get the pho rolls as it's one of their specialty, you won't regret it! Will be back soon. …Read More
