Level 1Hong Kong
I'm a recent expat from New York. My stay is indefinite as Hong Kong is my birth place and is where my family lives. My mission is to find the best eateries and places to relax and hang out. I have a group of very close friends back in the states that I'll miss but am always open to meeting new people.

Poorly cooked food, no WiFi, Poor service

Breakfast was super oily, the over easy eggs fried to a crisp, overcooked, coffee came cold. No WiFi for any cafe these days is a bit odd, we asked them and they said no, restrooms are not on premise, chairs were hard and uncomfortable. A big let down on all fronts for us. Never again. The waiter who seems like just a teenager, which is totally fine, but he had absolutely no expression, we didn’t get any sense of service or care. A teenager or not, a smile would go a long way.…Read More

Really subpar food and service
La Itameshi
2024-08-03
Never again. The tl;dr is that the food is worse than fast food but 2x pricier, owner/staff argue with customer instead trying to address the issue, just overall really bad experience.I finally tried this restaurant after passing by many times, and my experience was extremely disappointing. Upon sitting down, I noticed crumbs on my chair, which was a bad start since there were no other customers. During lunch, I ordered the "ribeye steak" set, and the waiter, likely the owner, served a basket of bread with some kind of dip right beside it. Assuming it was a spread of some type, I tried it, only to find out it was hot mustard for the steak. This unexpected surprise upset my stomach immediately. When I suggested to the waiter perhaps it’s a good idea to inform customers that’s it not for the bread, he began to debate me on how other customers tells him otherwise and said to me “look at this bottle of oil on the table, do I need to tell you that it’s oil”? I was livid. First of all, I am not that type of person that goes around saying that the customer is always right. But what I do expect is that you at least try to understand your customer’s grievance with respect and perhaps try to see how you can make things better for me. Not stand there and debate me and prove why I’m dumb for not knowing. Or doubt that anyone would confuse that with some kind of spread, when you placed it down together with the bread. Secondly, why would you serve a condiment like that with the bread when the steak didn’t come until like 20 minutes later anyway? You serve the condiment that’s meant for the dish when you bring the dish out. And yes, it’s perfectly fine to tell your customers what you’re placing on the table as you’re serving it. What is this? Service 101? Aside from the service, the ribeye steak was bland and drenched in black pepper sauce, making the mustard unnecessary anyway. The so-called “steak” could not have been more than 1 cm thick, if even. So I don’t know why you even bothered to ask me how I wanted it done. It was well-done, I asked for 70%, but again, pointless. For comparison, the steak at Café de Coral, which I went to the day after, is better, bigger, and it was $77, while this place charged $174 and required a $300 minimum for credit card payments. Are you kidding me, even cha chan tengs accept Apple Pay these days. Basically, you’re charging people $100 premium for food that’s worse than fast food. With a smart-ass owner to boot. Fantastic.if you're reading this, I’m sure you remember me. I’m around the neighbourhood quite a lot. You certainly lost me and others around me as customers. Good job buddy.…Read More

Greasy overcooked green curry chicken
泰Grill (天晉匯)
2023-08-16
Got the Thai Green Curry Chicken, spicy which is fine, but curry flavour was very minimal at best, chicken was cut so small and overcooked to shit and greasy as hell. The kicker is when I told the girl that the chicken was overcooked, and this was after I finished and was paying, she had no interest in wanting to know more, just looked at me with no expression as if to say “what do you want me to do about it…” That part might be worse than the chicken itself. A business with staff that don’t give two shits about quality of food or feedback from customers is not one that I would visit again. How they got 60+ likes here is beyond me.…Read More

PressRay Thanks Robert. It's a people's game. We recently visited another Thai place in PopWalk 2. Despite an issue, they handled it with grace, even offering a free dish. Their warmth will make us return. A smile and understanding speaks volumes in HK.

Got the chicken breast, dryer than an old catcher’s mitt. I make skinless chicken breast all the time, and with cooking spray too, so very little oil, and it’s always moist. It’s just this place freezes it it seems and then they cook the crap out of it and let it sit in that hot water all day. It’s all just cooked shiet. Yeah you’ll get that 79g of protein, but the cost is you get sand paper for lunch.…Read More
