La Famille

One of the best ice creams I’ve ever had in Hong Kong😍 It was smooth and milky and while the sweet potato powder didn’t contribute much taste, it was slightly crunchy and added another texture into the mix. The cone was wonderfully crunchy but it’s more like a cookie than a typical waffle cone. Would definitely recommend coming to try it as it’s only $40HKD ($38HKD for original vanilla flavour). Other flavours include Chocolate and Matcha.…Read More

Excellent Wagyu and Fresh Burger
MOS Burger
2019-07-20
MOS Burger's Sheung Wan branch is located on the 4th floor of Shun Tak Centre, above Ajisen Ramen and KFC. Although I'm not much of a burger guy, I wanted to give MOS Burger a go after hearing good things from my friends about it. Though they're not as cheap as McD's, they certainly make up for the higher price with a wide variety of burgers (including ones with rice!) and different snacks to go with them.Menu:We ordered three sets for lunch from the menu, and the queue was short when I ordered. The staff were extremely friendly and explained how to order a burger + a snack + a drink. However, by half-past noon the queue had extended to over 20 people since lots of offices are situated nearby.Wagyu Original & Wagyu Demi-glace Sauce:The Wagyu patties were meaty and thick, while the vegetables were crunchy and fresh. The Wagyu original had a more "traditional" flavour which I liked more than the demi-glace sauce variant. There's really not much to say about these Wagyu burgers since they're a simple but tasty take on the usual hamburger. Remember to eat them hot though because the meat starts to get chewier when it's cold!Fresh Burger:In my opinion the Fresh Burger was the best out of the three, as the creamy sauce gave a light tanginess which complimented the heavy, grilled flavour of the beef patty. The slice of tomato was thick and juicy and not sour at all, while the lettuce gave the burger a much-needed crunchy texture. Unlike burgers from other restaurants, the bun is sweet and soft. This burger left my stomach (and my wallet) feeling very satisfied, but I'd imagine those with bigger appetites might need something more than just the burger to feel full.Snacks and Drinks with the Set:Set B - Large Fries with Kagome JuiceSet D - Nuggets with Blueberry Yogurt DrinkSet E - Mos Chicken with Mango Yogurt DrinkWe ordered the three burgers as a set, but the snacks that accompanied the burgers were disappointing. The "large" fries were thick and crispy, but they weren't very hot and the portion was tiny. The nuggets had a thin panko-style coating that made the outside crispy, but again they weren't very flavourful and slightly cold. The Mos Chicken was basically a fried chicken fillet, but it didn't taste fresh and it was tough to chew. The drinks were much better, and I'd recommend the Blueberry and Mango Yogurt drinks. The Mango drink is sweeter than the Blueberry one, and I'd order them again next time.Ultimately, the burgers I had at MOS Burger were definitely worth the price and I'd come here again, but I wouldn't try the snacks again as they weren't very fresh or tasty. If you're looking for a burger that tastes better than McD's but you don't want to splurge $70+ on something like Shake Shack, this is the place to go!…Read More

Great Lunch Deal with Delicious Wings
Little Hanoi
2019-07-12
Little Hanoi is hidden away on Wing Kut Street,  easily accessible from Des Voeux Road (and the Sheung Wan MTR Exit E2). I was exploring the nearby area during my measly 1-hour lunch break when I wandered down this street and decided to give this restaurant a try after seeing the set menu displayed outside.Little Hanoi's seating area comprises two levels, with the "open kitchen" on the bottom floor and larger tables for groups on the windowless upper floor. While the bottom floor has natural light flowing in from their large shopfront windows, the upper floor is bleak but nonetheless well-lit.We ordered two lunch sets, consisting of an appetiser, a main dish, and a drink. We ordered Butter Garlic Chicken Wings, a Shredded Chicken Noodle Soup, and a Grilled Lemongrass Chicken Cold Rice Vermicelli. The service was fast, friendly and they took orders from multiple tables without writing any of it down (don't ask me how, I can barely remember what I ordered myself).Appetiser - Butter Garlic Chicken Wings (5 stars):The Butter Garlic Chicken Wings were brought out extremely quickly and I could tell they were freshly made when I bit into them. The meat is tender and juicy, and the butter and garlic tastes heavenly. The skin is crispy and I would definitely order them alone if I could. It is rather "fatty" though considering that it tastes like it's been covered in butter. However, a small chicken wing or two never ruined anybody's diet, am I right?Main dish - Grilled Lemongrass Chicken Cold Rice Vermicelli (4 stars):The sauce that came with this dish was very well done - not too sweet but also not too salty.  I really enjoyed the lemongrass chicken and there were two big pieces in my bowl; however, I did notice when I was looking around at what other people ordered that the portion of chicken varies quite greatly. The vegetables were crisp and crunchy and I would recommend this dish.Main dish - Shredded Chicken Noodle Soup (3 stars):The shredded chicken noodle soup was in a bowl much bigger than my face (to my shock and amazement), but the taste wasn't so impressive. There's plenty of noodles to go around and the broth is rich and steaming hot. However, I didn't see anything special in this dish and the shredded chicken is slightly tough.Overall, I definitely see the Butter Garlic Chicken Wings as the star of the meal because they were oh-so-crunchy and juicy as well. However, I can understand why some people might be put off by the "oily" butter texture. Little Hanoi is worth a stop if you're passing by, especially given the price for an appetiser, main dish and drink. Be warned that you may have to queue (as with most restaurants in Sheung Wan/Central) during lunch hours.…Read More

Fast and Tasty Lunch for Nearby Office Workers
TOAST BOX (Shun Tak Centre)
2019-07-11
Ask anyone working in Central or Sheung Wan and they will tell you that the lunch hour rush and ensuing queues are an inevitable part of daily life. Since most office workers have a 1-hour lunch break usually between 12pm and 1pm, the most important factors for an enjoyable meal are speed and taste.I got to Toast Box just before noon and there were plenty of tables to choose from. Although the store isn't very big, there's space for around 40 customers to be seated comfortably. The interior is brightly-lit, the decor is modern and there's a relaxed ambience despite the hustle and bustle of Sheung Wan.We ordered three sets: a Traditional Kaya Toast, a Malaysian-style Bak Kut Teh, and a Coconut Rice with Thai-style Chicken (Nasi Lemak). We also got four snacks: fried fish balls, fish balls with soup, celtuce with soy sauce and a slice of pandan cake. Ordering was fast and orderly, and the food only took around 10 minutes (or even less!) to be prepared.Bak Kut Teh set (4 stars):The Bak Kut Teh was steaming hot and was filled with different ingredients, including two thick slices of pork rib. The Bak Kut Teh was also accompanied by a bowl of white rice, but unfortunately, this was rather lukewarm. The soup itself was flavourful and rich and well worth the $80 price tag.Coconut Rice with Thai-style Chicken (Nasi Lemak) (5 stars):This dish was a flurry of varying flavours and textures, with the crunch of the fried chicken and smelt fish contrasting with the soft coconut rice, and the strong Thai chilli sauce combining with the subtle hints of coconut. The runny yolk of the fried egg on top was soft and gooey, and I washed everything down with a cup of Iced Milo.Traditional Kaya Toast set (3 stars):Although the Kaya toast was crunchy and hot, the portion was much smaller than expected and disappointing. Although it came with two eggs and hot Barley, it was a disappointing set for ~$40 when the Nasi Lemak was only around $60. The Kaya toast should definitely be ordered a la carte as a snack (for around $16) rather than as a lunch set because you'll be looking for more food afterwards.Snacks:Fried fish balls (4 stars) - You can't go wrong with some classic fish ballsFish balls with soup (4 stars) - Same fish balls, just with soupCeltuce with soy sauce (2 stars) - Good crunch but lacked any flavour whatsoeverPandan cake (2 stars) - Light and fluffy texture but didn't taste like Pandan... or anything for that matterOverall, I would definitely come back to Toast Box because the food was delicious, not too expensive and prepared extremely quickly. However, do note that there is no table service and you must order at the counter and collect your food from the kitchen area when the food pager begins to buzz. The prices are acceptable for Sheung Wan and to be honest, most restaurants in the surrounding area (excluding fast food) are in the $55-$80 range. I would recommend this place as a speedy lunch spot for those working in offices nearby or for any friends looking for a quick bite.…Read More

Amazing Food for a Low Price
Nothing But Natural
2017-11-22
Nothing But Natural------------------------------Located at 154 Wellington Street, Nothing But Natural isn't exactly in the most convenient location. However, it more than makes up for it with the quality of food. This Korean restaurant serves healthy  rice bowls and gimbap rolls at reasonable prices, and I immediately wanted to try it when I saw it on the online dining platform list. Delivery took around 30-35 minutes, and the order was accepted super fast.------------------------------Pork  Natural  Bowl  with Small Pancake and Juice - $98The Pork Natural Bowl is $68 a la carte, and $30 more with pancakes and juice.Firstly, the Pork Natural Bowl is similar to your normal Korean rice bowl. However, the tanginess of the vegetables coupled with the soft fluffy Korean rice made this absolutely irresistible. The pork was minced and was surprisingly easy to chew, while the spicy sauce (I ordered less spicy) that came with it perfectly rounded the dish off. I also specifically customised it with well-done eggs, and the eggs were just to perfection in terms of how cooked they were, without being overly dry.Pork Natural Bowl - Overall 5 StarsThe Korean pancakes are delightful by themselves, as the set includes a small seafood pancake and carrot pancake. The seafood pancake was the better tasting one, with a variety embedded within the soft pancake. The carrot pancake was rather plain tasting, but still very easy to bite.Korean Pancakes  - Overall 4 StarsI also ordered a carrot and apple juice, and this was shockingly sweet. I'm unsure of how this could've been achieved without added sugar, but if it was then their apples must've been sweeter than honey!Carrot and Apple Juice - Overall 3.5 Stars------------------------------Given the chance, I would definitely order and visit Nothing But Natural again, as it is a meal with great value and flavours at this price.[✓] Recommended…Read More

SupaTasty!
Supafood
2017-05-07
SupafoodAll ingredients are organic and come from ethical farmers, in order to create nutritious food that is accessible and affordable. Listed under the healthy eating category of online dining platform , I decided to give Supafood a go since I was craving some chicken with rice. ------------------------------Roasted Organic Chicken Brown Rice with Kale Cashew Pesto - $135The portion of this meal is very large and filling, with a total of 588 calories. It also has the highest protein out of all the options at Supafood, coming in at 45g of protein and only 13g of fat. By the time the food had arrived it was already cold, so I re-heated it before eating. The flavour is rather bland without the sauce, and the sauce really helps to blend the rice with the chicken together. I highly advise mixing the lentils into the rice to make one big bowl of chicken rice, because then the flavours seep into all of the rice. The coconut brown rice was firm and the broccoli was tasty, but the sweet potato and carrots were rather tasteless and mushy. The chicken meat is shredded, and it wasn't too dry when mixed with the kale pesto sauce. However, I do enjoy this meal because it gives a nice balance of protein, fat, carbohydrates with a small side of vegetables and I recommend giving it a try. In addition, its chicken is organic free-range from Australia, and although it doesn't taste any different, it certainly makes us all feel a little healthier and more humane Overall: 4 stars :)------------------------------Carrot Cake Supaball - $18 (Free with online dining platform Delivery)The Supaball is a rather interesting "dessert"-type food, which tastes like an energy bar in a ball-shape. It isn't too sweet, but the ginger powder definitely gives it a real kick that not everyone may enjoy. It comes free with online dining platform delivery, but I would not spend $18 on this even if it's made of organic ingredients. It can be quite a nice after-meal treat, but it isn't especially amazing.Overall: 3 stars…Read More

Fair to Middling Burrito
Cali-Mex Taqueria
2017-04-23
Cali-MexSearching for food in a rush on a drizzly Saturday afternoon, I ducked into an empty Cali-Mex filled with the cheery sounds of Latin music. The shop is bright and well-let, with both table seating and bar-style seating available. I'd passed by this shop a few times, though it always seems to be rather empty. I had about 15 minutes for a quick lunch and there was no queue, so the food only took around 5 minutes to prepare. Located on Jardine's Bazaar, it is around a 5 minute walk to Causeway Bay MTR and Hysan Place, which is super convenient. Decorated with a brightly bizarre mix of orange seats and wooden tables, I can see why most people order take-away.------------------------------The menu on offer is rather large, with different choices and a step-by-step process to guide you through the mess. All the ingredients are spooned onto the wrap and created in front of your eyes, if you care to watch. If not, the buzzer will alert you when your food is ready. You can also ask for more jalapenos if you can handle the spice ;)------------------------------Mixed Bean Burrito - $78I ordered a Mixed Bean Burrito with black beans, mild spice level and no guacamole, though I have tried the medium spice level before and that is delicious! The beans were nothing spectacular, soft with a salty taste, The rice and vegetables were crunchy together and complemented the soft beans well. The problem is that apart from saltiness, there isn't really much flavour going on in this burrito. The sauce has inadequate flavour and the whole thing is rather dry. The wrap is soft and thin which isn't necessarily a negative point. Although it wasn't a bad burrito, I wouldn't recommend ordering a mixed bean burrito to anyone. Also for the size, I'm not sure but this seems to pack a lot of calories and salt into a small package. Beans made me feel healthy, but the saltiness drained away any of those feelings as I felt thirsty extremely soon afterwards. It did however keep me full until dinner, so I guess its an easy, fast and convenient lunch for anyone in a rush in CWB.Overall: 3 Stars :S…Read More

Tasty Vegetarian Menu
PizzaExpress
2017-04-22
PizzaExpressWith a sudden craving for a vegetarian dinner, my friend recommended us to check out PizzaExpress' vegetarian menu. We arrived just before 6 pm, and luckily we did not have to wait for a table, as a queue began merely 5 minutes after we were seated. The views of the harbour from our table were simply spectacular and a delight in itself. PizzaExpress has a separate vegetarian menu, with a 10% discount on 'Green Mondays'.------------------------------Avocado Quinoa Salad - $128I was rather disappointed with this dish, because it was plain and tasteless and the amounts of avocados and tomatoes were minuscule. There were also some rough, hard bits of quinoa that were perhaps uncooked. The avocados were okay but this dish was downright terrible. Of course, the bread sticks were nice and soft, but couldn't save the rest of the dish.Overall: 1 Star :(------------------------------Spaghetti Al Pesto Genovese - $88This pesto spaghetti looks deceiving, as its flavours are extremely rich and the herby pesto sauce coats the spaghetti extremely well. The tomatoes with nuts were excellent and gave a crunchy texture to the al dente spaghetti. My only complaint is that the pesto is rather oily, and you do feel thirsty afterwards seeing all that oil remaining in the bowl afterwards.Overall: 4 Stars------------------------------Fiorentina Pizza - $133Here comes the star of the night, the main meal. It was my first time seeing a half-cooked egg in the middle of a pizza, but it was surprisingly delicious. Even though it was a vegetarian pizza, it felt as filling and rich as any other meat-lover's pizza. The vegetables went well with the tomato sauce base, while the crust was crunchy and not too thick. My only complaint is that there were copious amounts of salt (yes, salt) sprinkled on top of the egg, which made some slices way too salty. All-in-all, I would definitely recommend trying this pizza.Overall: 5 Stars <3…Read More

Mediocre Chicken
Chicken On the Run
2017-04-16
Chicken on the RunLocated along-side the Central Mid-Levels escalator, the location is not terribly inconvenient but it can be quite troublesome if the escalator is not in the same direction. Promising to deliver "fresh Australian rotisserie chicken" and a meal that is "healthy and simple", I certainly set high expectations before the food arrived at my doorstep.Dinner for One (Chili Chicken) - $87Mixed Bean Salad - $35I ordered the dinner for one set, with chilli chicken. There were copious amounts of chill sauce and oil, which surprisingly were not spicy at all. To be honest, the chicken was nothing spectacular, and it was slightly red on the inside so I had to roast it for about 10 more minutes. The chicken skin wasn't terribly tasty either, though the chicken was tender.Surprisingly, the mashed potatoes, peas and corn were the best part of the meal! The potatoes were buttery smooth and went perfectly with peas and corn.Chicken Overall: 3 StarsThe mixed bean salad on the other hand was rather good. The spiciness and crunchiness of onions mixed with the beans gave it a nice aroma and texture, which made me feel rather healthy ;)Bean Salad Overall: 4 Stars…Read More

Delicious Wraps
MANA! Fast Slow Food
2017-04-16
MANA!Popular for its healthy wraps and salads, I decided to stop by with a friend to give it a go. The shop was easy to find, but the building is indented from the road, which might make it a bit harder to find at night. There are also lots of healthy food restaurants nearby, from Exit D of Central MTR. The shop itself is small and cramped, though there are bar-style seats inside and 2 large cosy tables to sit around. There is also outdoor seating available at the shop-front (pictured below) and in the back alleyway. Music pumps through the speakers and although seating is cramped, there is a nice cosy and intimate feel if you eat with a few close friends. The menu is rather extensive, as you can choose your own toppings for your 'flat' or salad. You can also make it a combo with additions such as a drink, soup, or fries.Avocado, Kale, Hummus & Mushroom Flat - $95I ordered a full wrap with Avocado, Kale, Hummus and Portobello Mushrooms. It took around 7 minutes to make, which is acceptable since they say that the wraps are customised and created by hand when you order it.As you can see, the full length is rather long and will definitely satiate your lunch appetite! The kale was crunchy and packed, while the mushrooms were fresh and springy. The hummus added much needed flavour to the wrap, otherwise it can become a bit dry. The avocados were buttery and overall blended with the hummus really well. My only complaint is that the outside of the wholemeal flat is sometimes slightly burnt, which gives it a bitter taste. Other than that...Overall: 5 stars!Purple Yam Fries - $40As a side dish to our wraps, we also ordered purple yam fries with 'garlicnaise' sauce. We were also offered barbecue and ketchup as alternatives, but I chose the garlicnaise, and I certainly do not regret it. Words cannot describe how well the fries went with the sauce. The fries were soft on the inside yet crunchy on the outside, and when dipped in a bit of sauce it was truly amazing. My only disappointment is that although the yams are delicious, it is rather overpriced for the quantity that came. However, I'd still definitely recommend people to try it at least once!Overall: 5 stars :)…Read More
