Worst Vietnamese in HK! So terrible
Saigon Etoile Vietnamese Street Food
2018-08-17
We noticed this small place on the way to another restaurant and changed our mind to have try. The look and feel of the restaurant is pretty. Cozy and modern setting with a very focused menu. When we got in, there’s absolutely no other customers. “Oh it must be a new place” that’s what we thought. We sat down and the waiter is very friendly and welcoming. (Which is the only best thing here) There’s only more or less 10 options on the menu, including snacks/appetiser. We ordered a pho, banh mi and one stack (never had before).Given no other customers, we have waited a WHILE until we got food. The Banh Mi. Omg so disappointing! It’s so small portion And the bread is very stale. Probably sit in the restaurant for a couple days (not enough consumers!) The fillings or whatever are inside, don’t taste like a banh mi and absolutely way too oily. Then the pho. I would say it’s average but over priced. The beef is very chewy and not quality. Too much noodle and too little soup. The pho quickly sucked all the soup. The slack is bad also. Just oily. Feel like you could get them in any Chinese style bakery for under 10 dollars and it’s 38here.When you only have a few items on the menu you should be good at those. …Read More

SaigonEtoile Dear customer, we are very sorry that you had a bad dining experience with us. Our sincere apologies as at the time of your visit we could not find the right staff to provide the authenticity in reproducing the recipes my family has transmitted to me over 3 generations already. To make it short, you posted this review on August 17th, 2018; however we have changed our staff since August 1st therefore you had visited our shop before August 1st. I believe the food taste and experience (waiting time, service) is completely different and up to your expectation now. Therefore I would be happy to offer you a free meal for you and a friend of yours, equivalent to what you have order previously so you could compare our real taste and value for money. My apologies again and if you would like to give us another chance to try again our * free of charge, please contact me at: contact@saigonetoile.com in order to get your free voucher. (in order to prove you are the person that wrote this review, we would request you show us your pictures and your * account for identification). We really hope you could give us a chance as like you said, I totally agree, when we only have a few items on the menus, it should be the best (not only good). If you are still not sure, you can check other recent reviews and pictures of the food we serve now, which is completely different from the pictures you took. Have a nice day and see you soon! :)

SaigonEtoile PS: the banh mi, not sure what you were served and not sure either what you had in comparison, we don't pretend to be the best in Hong Kong (however our customers do mention that) but for sure, our banh mi is authentic like the one you have in the street in Vietnam! I have benchmarked most of the banh mi shops in Hong Kong and no one is providing the same filling meat as ours which is the traditional way. (I am Vietnamese who grew up in Vietnam and got fed with banh mi since my very young age... ;))

Genuinely honest Hello, I just read your review too late it seems. I went here last night actually and tried their pho. It was okay I guess, standard really. But I have to agree with you, there were too many noodles that it sucked up my soup. Now I'm hesitant on trying their banh mi.

SHU FAMILY
2018-07-19
…Read More

Got to know this place from a coworker. Located in a quiet street in Central with good restaurants nearby (Kau Kee), it’s hardly noticeable unless searching actively.Decorated with Street food stall style, the space is fairly small, and the menu is even smaller( which is always a positive indication) - 3 kinds of noodle soup and a few snacks/sides and drinks. I was there with my boyfriend and we just had couple happy hour drinks, so just ordered a noodle (Ban Thái) and a Ban Mi.Portion is small, but taste is SOOOOO GOOOD! The taste of soup is unique, aromatic, and rich in taste.something I have never had in other places. The noodle is a kind of thick rice noodle that a little bit different from pho. The noodle comes with shrimp, special pork meat balls and beef, which are all quality. What you can’t miss is the Ban Mi! It’s filled with coriander, sausage, Vietnamese pepper (we did ask for mild spicy), pickles and some other spices which are Good combinations. The bread is warm and filling is cold, which provides a nice sensation. The bread is very nice, with right amount of crunchiness and softness. Overall, food is great, a little pricey (which happens all the time in Hk) and will definitely recommend to others.…Read More

Tak Shing Tea Stall
2018-03-20

Authentic traditional HK food

Living in Taihang, this is the place I go to at least once per week. Very down to earth place - a little food stall with foldable tables and plastic stools in the ally. No walls, no callings. It has the sense of old Hong Kong in 80s or even earlier.Small menu (which usually is a good sign) all in Chinese, where you could find the most local food ever - instant noodles with choices of ham/ luncheon meat/sausage/pork chop/ egg/ wings; toast with jam/PB/butter e.g. and Hong Kong style sandwiches. Also have to mention their milk tea, one of the best in HK. Food is simple and good, the noodles comes with lettuce (which is a luxury for Cha Tsang Teng here), and sesame oil, chilli oil, soy sauce on the table for different taste. The peanut butter toast is a bomb, crunchy but not dry, and it’s rich in Peanut butter.Price is very very affordable. A bowl of noodle, a PB toast and milk tea will cost less than 50hongkies Love this place and always support small business! …Read More

Shu Ma Noodle
2017-11-28
…Read More

Camper's
2017-11-22
…Read More

Le Pho

…Read More

Amazing Taste
Palki Indian Restaurant
2017-03-22
…Read More

…Read More

Favourite Tea restaurant & breakfast spot
Hoi On Cafe
2017-03-13
…Read More

Thursday - $3 wings & hot wing challenge
Burger Joys (君悅居)
2017-03-13
Love to come here on thursday with friends - all wings at $3 each. You can choose from Buffalo, Cajun & sweet garlic. Really delicious wings at a great price! We once did 120 wings with 6 of us, it was a blast. My favorite is sweet galic, then buffalo. The Cajun is also good, however a bit too salty for me. Another fun thing to do here is the "Hot wing challenge" with their special Hot AF wings. Eat as much as you can within 3 minutes, and winners can leave their name with a picture on their challenge board. People working in the restaurant are all super nice. The "Wings Night" almost became our weekly routine.…Read More
