Value for money set meal
Xuan Modern Vietnamese
2023-06-01
I ordered the chicken set and was really impressed by the roasted chicken quality: it’s local yellow chicken which if i were to buy in the market is very expensive; it tastes great yet I think it’s slightly too cooked; the salad is very yummy and this set comes with 2 drinks and soup. Would return for the beef set. …Read More

Shanghai House

Heirloom Eatery & More

Awesome food, cute decor, friendly service, lovely neighborhood and happy mood. This mix is what I experienced that very special night when I saw Mrs Anson Chan, Ms Lydia Dunn and many other previous civil servants at the restaurant. It's absolutely fantastic the ambiance, the taco is mini but so fun and the Balinese salad, a goose liver with pumpkin and a short ribs! Fabulous mix I had but regrettably they don't serve alcoholic drinks like wine yet, otherwise it would be an even happier meal. I finish off the meal with Red Velvet cake, soo good. Would return for sure. …Read More

most disappointing dinner in 2011
Number 12
2011-11-08
I had a gathering with 3 very good friends and wanted to try something different, thus reading from another magazine's recommendation, we wanna try this private kitchen out. We reserved for ourselves a set dinner which features almost numerous number of dishes, all the names are absolutely impressive and mouth-watering. When we had the 1st 6 cold dishes, which almost 3 of them are super sweet: I personally cannot stand sweet taste too much....OK, i waited for the other 6 cold dishes. It's all pretty bland seafood like abalone, shell fish and aubergine wtih very thick sesame paste and there is this amazingly sweet tofu dish which uses orange juice and sugar I suppose, OH NO. Not enticing. Then came a hot friend crab toast which became a delight coz it's finally something hot. Soo much wait we are finally being serviced some hot dishes, the soup is not quite right, it's just chicken soup and some vege? OK, there is this fried crab, and then fried fish fillet, and also fried chicken. The chef loves frying food. And finally we have another pre-fried ribs. My heavenly dish finally arrived, green Choy Sum and mushroom in clear broth, I can cry now. And it wrapped with friend rice with truffle...er. I don't really like truffle. And we are daring enough to check out the dessert, it's steamed egg white, it's super super super sweet but smooth. I am sure people who have sweet tooth would appreciate it.I wanna strangle myself for spending $350 at somewhere I don't enjoy and some food I don't and couldn't eat. Bye private kitchen, I lose all confidence in this type of food now. …Read More

happy 1st anniversary
Lily & Bloom
2011-08-15
Was attracted to Lily & Bloom by their 1st anniversary promotion and their oyster! It's not too many selections to choose from around 5 I think. We got Rock Island and Hama Hama. They are all quite succulent and creamy in flavor, but I still think they could be fresher. The calamari to my surprise was a grilled one and in fact they serve the fried one at the bar side, which at first they said they could not share the menu but we insist and they compromised. It's shock coz the Bar and the Restaurant is just the same complex and not sharing the menu would be really silly. But the fried one come out good. The ox marrow is fantastic and goes very well with the fresh crispy baguette! That is ace!I ordered Dory fish as main and came out they are fried but really fresh and yum! The side was curried potatoes and carrots which are a good mix and not overshadowing the fish's lovely taste. The Mango napoleaon is a miss being it's not the usual type of fresh cruchy pastry style. Lucky I was sharing with my friend and it wasn't too much of a bite to finish. Overall, the mean is satisfying and the ambiance is causal and cozy. Happy 1st anniversary! …Read More

Mirror Restaurant
2011-08-12
I have made the booking like one or two months ahead - just long time ago. And the place is really quite small no wonder why it's easily full but it's kinda worth the wait. We just had the signature menu for 5 courses instead of the tasting menu for at least 6 and up to 8 courses. The bread is really making a difference and almost the best in HK. The starter is an eggplant dish which is very flavorful and rich. But it arrives slightly too soon as our wine has not even arrived and poured and the food already in front of us. Think the serving time could be handled better. The main course I ordered is the pork tenderloin - it's quite tender and the right texture but I was hoping that the taste of the meat could be a bit stronger - not meaning the way it's prepared but the meat quality. And the 2 seemingly small pieces actually are very filling. We wrapped up the meal with a chocolate cake in which hot chocolate sauce poured over the super cold chocolate plate on top of the vanilla ice cream created a special visual effect and ends the meal in an entertaining way. Overall, the food is great, the place's quite noisy and warm - think that is the cons we have to put up when it's not being served in the environment of 5 star hotel. It's understandable! …Read More

i'm impressed by their drink menu which offers lots of different cocktails and by far i think it's the most diverse! i like whiskey and the King's Gold is great. Food-wise the foie gras is yumm! Service is below standard though! For what they charge they need to groom more professional people to handle serious people like us !!! …Read More

King's Palace Kitchen
2011-05-10
I have always gone to King's palace at Happy Valley and happy about the quality. What delights me further is not that about the additional location choices, but there are more dishes varieties at this new spot and all done really nicely and thoughtfully. The 豆豉雞 is lovely, and the fresh 龍dun fish is super. I will definitely go back again. But I think dishes in general could be less oily. …Read More

O Green Cafe
2011-05-10
O Green is really close to where I work so i have come here quite often and many times. The chicken sandwich is great coz the chicken is juicy and tasty and the dressing and avocado just blend in so well with the baked bread that made my lunch break extra fulfilling. The soup is not OK though not sure why it's soo diluted and bland. Salad is great and soup pasta is another go! …Read More

Wagyu Lounge
2011-05-10
Excellent food varieties, generous portion, convenient location, casual set up and just not pretentious where you can hang out with friends for 'many drinks' coz they are not over-charging it and the food is simply great! I keep going back and still finding lots of dishes I haven't tried coz i need to struggle between dish i love and things I have not tried, usually the temptation of the favorites win! Please book ahead! …Read More

Coffee Plus
2011-05-08
I never really like mainstream coffee chains but appreciate the convenience they offer. Just have always wished HK could cultivate better coffee culture like Bangkok, Melbourne, Tokyo and not to mention NYC. It's fab to see another small cafe which offers quality serious coffee close to where I reside. The flat white is lovely. I am going to make this spot my regular hangout. There is room for improvement for some items like muffin but the coffee really satiate me! …Read More

Boblam I hope it's the same Bangkok we are talking about. I found Bangkok seriously lagging behind Hong Kong in term of cup quality... I find no significant difference of cup quality between HK and Toronto. The coffee in Bangkok was geared more toward iced sweet and creamy coffee. Very few of them that seemed to know things tend to do the traditional old world style coffee vs. the progressive style Indie cafes make these days and what people talked about.By any mean, I like to know which cafe/place that you think 'cultivate' better coffee culture like Bangkok... Don't tell me it Kuppa which is almost an all time worst ever cup of coffee I ever had plus attitude I would rather do away with.
