Ok food bad service
Texas Burger
2016-09-03
This place is cute with its American diner gimmick and the food is decent but the service is just horrible. Ended up here for two gatherings and for the second one we had to wait for half an hour to be seated despite making a reservation because they overbook or disregard bookings totally! We were refused tap water when we asked and just generally brushed off when we tried to voice any sort of desire. Food wise, Of all the burgers the Texas burger is the best, juicy and loaded with onion rings, but the rest of the burgers, pulled pork for example, look and taste limp, bland and smothered with that unidentified white sauce that's often found in western food in HK. The fries, mozzarella sticks and onion rings with their respective dips however, are good and the milkshakes are as well. For the price, you can get a much better burger in HK but it's a nice, small, easily accessible place in tin hau to chat with friend and that prevents it from being a very poor dining experience. …Read More

Decent brunch
BRICK LANE
2016-09-03
Got here at 12:00 on a Friday, the restaurant isn't in the nicest of locations but the interior is very well done. Got the classic eggs benedict. It was good except it was smothered in far too much hollandaise and I would have preferred the whole dish a little warmer. My friend ordered a full English breakfast and polished it off so it couldn't have been too shabby! The nice touch to the brunch was that we ordered mimosas off the menu and the lady serving us was kind enough to throw them together for us at the bar. …Read More

Sweet potato crust to DIE For
Pizza Maru (希慎廣場)
2016-09-03
TLDR get the sweet potato crust on a seafood pizza!!!! A Korean friend and I stopped by this place on a quiet weekday lunchtime after wandering around Hysan. He is VERY particular about Korean food of any sort and adamant that Hong Kong never gets it right so we were very sceptical about giving this place a shot. We ordered a chicken and shrimp regular sized pizza between the two of us and the crucial thing was that we added the sweet potato crust - Mr Korea was majorly craving this from Korean takeout. Oh. My. The pizza itself was suuuuper super cheesy and stringy and greasy (yum but now I have to send apology letters to my waistline), the shrimp and seafood tasted real and not gummy and artificial as is often the case on say, Pizza Hut pies and the crust...the crust was the main event. It was stuffed with more cheese and hot sweet potato and if I wasn't a believer in the whole sweet potato thing I was converted. It was a party of flavours in my mouth and I felt genuinely sorry for all the diners around me who ordered normal American style pizzas without the magical crust. Overall Mr Korea friend approved and was amused at how much I loved the new take on pizza. I love the Korean fast food concept and the weird flavours on offer - will be back to try more! The one regular pizza more than satisfied the two of us and we had a nice table by the window. Only thing I would change would be to have the place more enclosed, it's sort of open to the mall....oh that and the Kpop projected everywhere was a bit jarring. …Read More

Casual Japanese dinner
Dondonya
2016-08-20
Was looking for a quiet restaurant to catch up with a friend in lok fu. Dondonya is close to the station, quiet, spacious and predictable. All wins compared to the noisy flourescent mall restaurants in HK. Food was your average Japanese fare complete with miso, rice and a little tomato and lettuce salad. We were tempted to order two sashimi bowls but for the sake of diversity I ordered the beef hot plate and ended up having sashimi bowl envy. If you're not watching your waistline then go for the fried stuff with curry like the diners on our right (looked yum).Service was good! Kept our water topped up all night and let us stay from 8 to well passed 9:30 chatting.…Read More

Eh. A foreffort
Cali-Mex Bar & Grill
2016-08-15
Rocked up to Cali Mex's newest tst joint expecting the usual take away place only to be quickly ushered into a swanky, dark dine-in/bar area (gotta give up that all important service charge). Said dining area was slick but seemed to be trying too hard for a pseudo Mexican fast food joint. The food was hit and miss. Nachos were what you'd want them to be - smothered in dairy and way too large, and the soft shell tacos were small, limp and forgettable. Get the nachos and the quesadilla takeout👌 (do so after 2am and I'm 88% sure it'll hit the spot) …Read More
