Of all the boba places in the area (most of which I’ve tried, which is something of a feat) this is one of my favorites. Their honey-flavored boba makes their citrus-flavored drinks uniquely yummy, their brown sugar boba tastes nice and caramelized (which a lot of places don’t get right) and their teas are pretty HQ. I was getting cravings for some vegetarian noodles - woefully uncommon in Hong Kong! - and found the veggie ramen at Ippudo. It’s one of the better veg ramen bowls I’ve had - the broth is rich and delicious but not too salty, and the toppings are subtle and yummy, from a soft and rich tomato to smoky grilled mushrooms. My partner and I came here for a quick meal before a day trip. We got the mushroom burger (set J) which is a vegetarian option - hard to find here! - and were pleasantly surprised! For $35, it was quite tasty. The portobello was a nice size and it came with button mushrooms as well which were a welcome addition. I really liked the thousand island dressing. Excited to find a non-veg place with a vegetarian option, I came here on a busy Sunday night and was seated with a family of three. I ordered the Shek Lam Bridge noodles with the normal sour level and very little spicy. The noodles were chewy and tasty and the broth was good - nice and tangy! - but wow was it spicy! I get heartburn and indigestion from spicy foods so I was hoping for something with just a bit of heat, and instead I got something that made my eyes water. If you're like me and on the fence about spicy food, I'd suggest getting "no spicy," because even the smallest level of spicy is quite a lot. This place was very busy when I went at about 8 PM on a Thursday night - always a good sign. I ordered the Southern Set Menu: a veg biryani, two curries, another rice-based curry, raita, papadams, paratha and a dessert. The paratha was a little stale, but the curries were all good - all very spicy though if you're sensitive to that. I used to be a regular here when I lived in HK 4 years ago, so I was happy to see it was still open when I came back - it's even the same guy waiting tables! If you're a fan of fake meat and meals for under 60 HKD, you'll love this place - they have a variety of fake meats from pork to eel. I had the pork chop with homemade sauce over rice - it's simple, but tasty. The bean curd soup is quite mild, and the broth is soymilk-based, which means it's quite rich as well - it was a little rich for my taste, but the bean curd sheets in the soup (which were rolled and stuffed with veggies) were quite good. My favorite dish by far, though, is the rice rolls - they come with peanut oil, sesame butter and soy sauce, and with a generous helping of sweet sauce they almost remind me of a peanut butter sandwich. They're rich and warm and delicious and so cheap at 16 HKD. I also love their tofu and soymilk, but westerners beware - unlike western soymilk it's very strong-tasting. I was excited to find this place not far from my hostel in TST - it can be hard to find veg options here. I had the mushroom barley risotto, but unfortunately it was undercooked - the barley was a little too hard, and instead of the melt-in-your-mouth quality that makes risotto so good, it was a bit tough to swallow. Definitely not worth the price. It looked like this place was better for desserts anyways (though I didn't try any). Tucked away in a stylish food court in Jordan, Mum's Veggie Cafe serves up tasty sets of small vegetarian dishes quickly and for a reasonable price. For 100 HKD you get your choice of three dishes, rice, miso soup and a hot glass of barley tea. I picked the spinach with sesame (fairly standard), the koya tofu with conjac (chewy and very tasty if you're a tofu fan), and the veggie rolls (crunchy and delicious). The miso soup was the surprise star: most free miso soups I've had are basically just water with seaweed, but this one came packed with carrots, soybeans and mushrooms.
