推薦👍🏼…Read More

Puff burger!
Owl's Choux
2016-05-09
Girls would go for miles just for a cute dessert. Having numerous dessert shops opening, it is not easy to create something different from other shops. Today, as I was strolling on Mody street with my girls in TST, I noticed a choux puff gelato cafe at the corner. Looking at the menu from afar, I thought this was a shop that sells burgers? but when I looked closer, I realized that it's actually giant choux puff! I’ve seen chained stores selling puff, but this one looked somewhat between a giant puff/burger/HK traditional pineapple bun (菠蘿包). Never had anything like that before, might as well gave it a try! So.. each of us tried a flavor! We ordered Red velvet, Mango tango, and Praline Noir. Not only that, we also shared a scoop of chocolate cookie chocolate gelato☺What we ordered:1. Chocolate cookie chocolate gelato 5/5:Thinking that this would be a safe yet boring choice, we were all very surprised after taking the first bite of the gelato! The gelato was soft, rich in milk chocolate flavor, but we also tasted something SALTY as we digged into more icecream ! :) I think it must be the cookie that carried the salty flavor. With a tiny bit of saltiness in the middle of a sweet chocolate dream, I could easily have another scoop ^^2. Mango tango giant gelato choux 4/5, $58Freshly came out of the oven, the orange-colored choux puff was put into the oven for 2-3 mins before adding the gelato, making sure that the bun was warm and crispy! Though that meant waiting for a while, but trust me, be patient, it was totally worth it! ^^ Looking somewhat like a 菠蘿包+burger, the choux had cracked skin that made out of cookie crumbs that's super cripsy and crunchy after toasted! The homemade mango gelato was divine, not to sweet or sour, leaving a rather strong after taste: ) The server kindly taught us how to eat it to maxmimze our enjoyment. Open the puff's cover, put some gelato and bite, OR take a big bite with the puff holding like you're holding a burger. As I took a bite in the middle, i tasted something very sweet and crunchy in the middle, coconut crumbs and caramel sauce!3. Praline Noir giant gelato choux 5/5, $58This was my favorite choux puff of all!! I would pick chocolate out of all flavors! This one has Hazelnut and crunchy gelato (just like eating the whole jar of nutella alive. Mmm YUM) + Praline sauce that tasted like caramel. As I took a deeper bite into the center of the choux puff, I tasted something very very familiar. It was a chocolate that people tend to eat a lot during Chinese new year.. mmmm MALTESSER! I thought it was 金沙 chocolate at first, then I realized the crunchy+melty property of the chocolate suggested something else. ^^Praline Noir choux puff is mainly chocolate but you can easily tasted 3-4 different kind of textures! What a joy!!4. Red Velvet giant gelato choux 3/5, $58Rosey red with a pretty name, there’s not doubt that this was the fanciest order of all! In fact, most of other female customers ordered it. I was very excited to try red velvet choux puff. So far, I’ve only tried red velvet cupcake and cake but not puff. Like the other choux puff, the puff was served hot and steamy ;) The red velvet choux puff contained vanilla almond icecream with fresh dried almond nuts, rose sauce and red velvet cake bits. The rose sauce was very unique and girly, I was surprised by the rosy flowery taste! As if I took a bite of a flower haha. I could see the original vanilla black seeds popping up from the white gelato! There’s no doubt that this was homemade!! ^^ However, I could not taste any cream cheese flavor from this dessert :\ I would prefer to enhance the cream cheese element and lessen the vanilla. Nevertheless, it was an interesting add on using rose syrup! ☺Overall experience : 4/5…Read More

melted honey cheese cake!!!! LOVE IT
Noah Castella
2015-09-01
I have never had melted honey cheese cake before.. or any melted cake. This is a totally new concept to me! As Hong Kong is having more different kinds dessert shops, I decided to give Noah Castella a try while i was hunting dessert at Tai Hang near Causewaybay. I was surprised by the different varieties offered. There was honey cheesecake..earlgrey cake...greentea and others. I had a hard time choosing which one.. but in the end i decided to go with the number 1 top seller--- honey cheese cake! The lady kindly opened the huge fridge and take out a cake, before she packed it in the cut catty cake box, she asked how long would i be out? I told her 1 hour? Then she put something into the box, which i later found out was dried ice. : ) The lady patiently explained to me how to store and enjoy the cake!Method:1. Store it in the fridge where u store ice2. When you want to eat it, take it out and leave it to defrose at room temperature for 20 mins. 3. Enjoy the cakeeeeThe look of the cake right after i took out of the fridge I cut a slice and leave it at room temperatue for 15 mins.. I couldn't wait for another 5 mins because i was so hungry / \ but the cake stil turned out really really well!!First of the all, the outter part of the cake was still cold, while the inner part (the honey) was slowly melting. It was the most amazing texture ever!! The honey was a little too sweet but it went really with the outter part of the cake, which was a bit bland to have it alone. If the cake has some slight decoration, it could be a wonderful birthday cake!!! :) Im hoping to try the other flavors soon!!!…Read More

What a Hidden GEM!
Thai Master Restaurant & Bar (Zhongda Building)
2015-09-01
Thai Master is conveniently located at one of the most busy streets in Tsim Sha Tsui, just 5 mins walking distance from Tsim Sha Tsui MTR exit A. Environment:--------------------------5/5!!!Situated on the 4th floor of the commercial building, Thai Master nicely transported me from a busy, noisy street to a calm and relaxed place. The restaurant was nicely seperated into outdoor and indoor parts. The outdoor dining area has a bar table with a few lounging area for dinner and drinks. It was really nice sitting outdoor overlooking the trees from kowloon park. I couldn't believe that I was just downstair moments ago being pushed by crowds of shoppers but now I could just enjoy seeing green scenery. Although we sat outdoor on a hot summer day, it wasn't hot at all because there were 2 large portable aircon. So i highly recommend you to reserve a table outdoor! Drinks: 椰青  coconut water $48     ---------------5/5!!!!Highly praised by the manager, we orderd two coconut as drinks and dessert!and... we didn't regret it at all! coconut juice was really sweet and refreshing! Excellent choice for summer! 木瓜沙律 $118 Green papaya salad -------------------4/5A little too spicy for my tastebud but nonetheless a really authentic thai dish! Green papaya salad! Lots of large tiger shrimps that looked like they were dancing on top of the shredded papaya :) This sour and spicy salad definitely got me an adrenaline rush as the chili spice left a tingingly sensation around my lips. but that didnt stop me from having more. Just get 3 more glasses of water! No big deal! :) 串燒沙嗲雞, 鹽燒牛舌,  satay chicken skewer and salted ox-tongue skewer $48 each--------------------4/5 (sauce 5/5!!!!!)Both chicken and ox tongue were tender and juicy to taste. However, what i loved most was the two dressings!!! One which was peanut-y, and the other that was sweet and sour. Both were so different but equally tastey!! Mains: 酸辣海鮮湯 $128 Sour and spicy seafood soup ---------------5/5!!!The soup may look clear and bland but look at the amount of seafood put in that bowl!! Absolutely amazing seafood soup. If you haven't had a traditional thai seafood soup, you know you haven't really tasted thai food properly. This soup was made with fresh assorted seafood. Ever sip of the soup was filled with the sweet flavors of different seafood. Although I cannot take spicy food very much, but this one...i could not resist! I finished the entire bowl haah :) Wok fried veggie:----------------------3/5yummy wok fried veggie. Just make sure u don't accidentally swallowed those seeds from chili ><! BEST.Save the best at last!!!!! green curry with coconut milk!! Don't be fooled by the color of the the curry and the red bits. This green curry wasn't spicy at all! It had a sweet taste filled with the aroma of coconut milk. The red bits were actually tomato : ) Too bored or too full with rice? Order some fluffy crispy bread instead! Dip it and get all the goodness out of the green curry! Definitely the best dish of all!!!! Overall:Food was really good but the environment stood out the most. This is a great place for family gathering or place to host small parties at the outdoor area. Just beware that food can come quite slow during peak hours. It was a 2 hour long dinner for us, however we enjoyed every minute of it! :)…Read More

Modern western food with a twist!
BEL CIBO Seafood Bar & Restaurant
2015-09-01
My apologies for this delayed post >< been busy traveling after exams. Finally! Got some time to sit down and share with you some of the great food eariler this summer. My friend brought me to BEL CIBO. The restaurant was at at a commerical building in an alley. It took me a while to find the place. As soon as I arrived at the restaurant, I noticed the dark environment, which was rather eerie in my opinion. I mean a restaurant can be dim and romantic. However, I think the lighting could be improved with some more yellow light in forms of candles or some sort. For two people, we ordered 2 soup, 2 appetizers and 2 mains. Soup: (comes with biscuit sticks!) Stilton Cheese Bisque with broccoli $68 ------------------------1/5 (cheese flavor is too strong for me) :( This wasn't the usual broccoli cream soup that i had. . It contained stilton (blue) cheese, giving a strong stinky-cheese flavor to the ordinary broccoli soup. I am not a cheese lover (especially cheese that has a strong flavor), therefore i didn't like this soup. However my friend loved it! I guess it depends if you can take the strong flavor of cheese! Black truffle soup $ 68         ----------------------4/5Nothing can go wrong with mushroom soup especially with some black truffle paste! Yummy! Appetizerven-roatsted chicken wing with truffle paste $78  -----------------------5/5!!!!!!! Love love love!!! absolutely love chicken wings, but who knows truffle can go so well with chicken? Chicken wing skin was lightly cripsy, the meat inside was tender, juicy. Excellenet appetizer to start the meal!! Perfect for family :) Baked avocado stuffed portubello mushroom with crab meat and cheese $98 --------3/5This dish has all the things that i love.. seriously! However with all of them together, i thought that i couldnt appreciate the dish as a whole. I could taste the lovely flavor of each ingredient if i seperate them.. however when put together.. they didnt taste as wonderful as individual. Main:Wild mushroom pizza with pine nuts $148-------------------------5/5!!!!!!If you are a vegetarian this is perfect for you!! I am not a vegetarian or wt-soever (haha i love meat) but this pizza tasted surpringly yummy!! First, take a look at the amount of pine nuts on top of the pizza!!! The pizza is thin crust, filled with mushroom and pine nuts ! Full of good nutrients! If the pizza crust can be more crispy it would be perfect!!! Nevertheless, i highly recommend this dish to you all!!! Baked low stingray with garlic butter $168------------------------------4/5Baked Stingray always brings me good memories of Sabah when I had an awesome seafood feast by the beach. Though there wasn't a beach to enjoy, this baked stingray certainly left me with good memories! The skin was lightly fried with butter. It went really well with the mashed potato underneath. The bones of stingray was very large, so they were hard to miss. : ) I would order this again!  …Read More

Not just the ordinary japanese curry!
Tiger Curry
2015-05-25
What is Japanese curry to you? In fact I am not very familiar to it. I remembered having it the first time when I came to Hong Kong 5 years ago. It was a nice alternative for people who can't stand the spice of Indian Curry (well. like me) I remembered tasting it for the time i was so surprised that it was... NOT SPICY AT ALL. I felt I got tricked by the color:( lol. Though Japanese curry wasn't hot for my tastebuds, somehow i wasnt so fond of it. It was boring to me. A big piece of meat plus a full plate of sauce. In order to redeem my faith in japanese curry again, my colleague decided to bring me to try Tiger Curry.  I was impressed by the building that painted in black and grey strips that represented tiger. It added a subtle touch to the restaurant's speciality. Checking the menu outside, there was quite a bit of mix and match for customer to choose their curry rice. You can choose Tiger curry / Hayashi rice + degree of spiciness + topping + meat. All of the selections have their own price so it's rather flexible to choose. We went inside and sat down. I did not smell any fried/oily smell like the other usual Japanese curry restaurants. As a girl, I am very particular with the ventilation system of the restaurant because I hate to come out of a restaurant and smelling like a one. Especially during winter time when you don't wash your coat everyday.. it is frustrating to get the oily smell on your coat. But Tiger curry did it well : ) It didn't have problems with that.We ordered quite a few appetizers beside the main dish.Salad:1) Tiger salad $55 --------------------------(4/5)With Romaine, tomato, corn, grilled chicken, onsen egg and curry ranch dressing. Wait curry ranch dressing on salad?? That's new! and it is surprisingly YUMMY!!! Forget about the thousand island sauce or ranch sauce. This is THE BOMB. Not only that, this came in amazingly HUGE portion (yes guys you will surely appreciate this) for just 55 dollars, what a good deal ;)The grilled chicken was tender and nicely flavored with the curry sauce. Great start with this as the first dish!Snacks:1) Cripsy cheesy mochi $48---------------------5/5Honestly I was never a fan of cripsy cheesy mochi. I used to think that it is just a fried cheese. But then I realize that's coz i never tried a really good one.. not until I tried the one from Tiger Curry!!!! This cheesy mochi came it HOT. and the skin was lightly crisp unlike the ones you tried outside which felt like they've fried it over and over again. When you cut the mochi in half...O-EM-GEE. The cheese poured out... all over. Just a wonderful scene. Please forgive me that I didn't take a photo of the flowy cheese for u :( What about the taste?? FANTASTIC! It didnt taste as heavy as the parmesan but more of the japanese cheese cream. And it had a trace of sweetness as after taste. HEAVENLY... highly recommended!! :)2) Japanese fried chicken $45------------------4/5Cripsy, dried skin (which i likeee) and tender meat!! Slightly lack of taste.3) Golden pork nuggets $ 50----------------------3/5The pork nugget itselt was a lil dry for me, but it tasted better with the sauce. The "fried" skin was slightly too thick4) Gyoza , fried dumplings $48----------------------5/5Lovelovelove itttttt! Thinly crisp and yet wasn't soggy at all. The chef managed to fried it while keep the dumpling skin dried. The Special sour-soy sauce added a nice touch to the perfection of the dumplings ^^  i need to order more of this nex timeee!5) Grilled sausage $48---------------------1/5Perhaps sausages arent really my thing. I felt something was missing in this sausauge. It tasted rather plain. Perhaps im used to the western sausages that has more spice and flavor in them : \ but I like this sauce!I really do!! it's honey mustard+ curry : )Main DishTiger Curry Rice ($35) + Scrambled egg ($18) + Melted cheese ($12) + Golden Kurobuta Pork Chop ($60) ------------------5/5  ($125 total) Again, full plate of japanese curry sauce but the addition of scramble egg and melted cheese made it much more interesting!!!! :) I picked the tiger curry with the original level of spice. It was tad bit of spicy but it greatly enhanced the curry flavor some something just plain salted to.. slightly spicy and sweet. I've never tasted such flavor before. This flavor isnt the ones you can taste from a chained restaurant. The sauce wasn't as thick, which i really appreciated. The scramble egg was smooth, juicy, and perfectly flavored. It was the first part that i tasted actually > < I tried it with and without dipping into the curry sauce and i loved both!!!! :) The pork chop was great too! The cripsy skin wasnt too thick that covered that juiciness of the pork chop. Together with curry sauce, AND MELTED CHEESE and a lil bit of scramble egg all in one spoonful of happiness. Though this dish is definitely on the pricy side (normally japanese curry would cost only 60-80 dollars) but you get what you pay for!!This is definitely worth it. I dont' think I will not go anywhere else for japanese curry. This is it. If you have a kid or friend who really can't take any spicy food AT ALL, there's also the option for Hayashi Rice, with tender beef slices braised in sweet and tomato sauce : )Dessert 1) Seasalt flavored icecream ---------------3.5/5Amazed by this special variety of icecream! The last time I had seasalt flavored icecream was when I was in Okinawa. It definitely brought back the good memories of ocean and blue skies. :) Loved the combi of vanilla and sea salt!! But I preferred it be thicker and more creamy.2) Taro flavored icecream------------------2/5This icecream may look like taro.. but it really tasted like sweet potato O.O ?? Perhaps there's a mistake on the menu? mm Not a fan of sweet potato but i know it is the hottest thg in the dessert industry of HK nowaday! Can give it a try : ) …Read More

Alert!! Too pretty to eat! :P
Naked Gurume Gyarari
2015-05-16
For those who are on the conservative side of the spectrum, calm down, u dont have to go naked to enjoy the fantastic artsy food at Naked Restaurant. ^^I had to come back again to try other fodo after the wonderful experience dining at Naked last time. I read about the special theme of Taiwanese and Thai fusion food this time and I had to give it a try!! Went there with 2 of my fav girls on a thursday night. It was much busier compared to first time we went there which proved that the restaurant reli know how to make their customers' tummies happy!  Appetizer1. Parmesan Szechuen Pepper Popcorn $48------- 3/5First apetitizer wasnt exactly sth that i would order except when i am at the cinema... but spicy pepper popcorn? Haha The popcorns were lightly drizzled with spicy szechuen pepper salt and parmesan cheese, finishing with some parsley flake. This dish is surprisingly "asian" with all the chinese ingredients despite it's popcorn!! Interesting!2. Big Eye Tuna Quinoa Salad $158-------- 5/5This dish is perfect for the fitness freaks!! Quinoa and Tuna, a healthy combo of low carbs and good protein. I'm not someone who is crazy about fitness and losing weight but this dish won my heart equally ^^ I was very happy to see the signiture iced leaves as I couldn't forget about them after I had them last time!! They were crisply fresh! The tuna sashimi... OMG so yummy together with the avocado cream and cheese vinaigrette. We definitely fought for every piece (yes even quinoa was delicious believe it or not!). I will come back for this again!! Highly recommended! 3. Toro Ham Wrap (3 wraps) $188 ----------5/5Because we couldnt have enough of the tuna... therefore here's another tuna dish with a twist! Tuna Belly with Iberico Cured Ham. Being the second time to have this dish, I have already mastered the skill of eating this the whole thing together. Just gently place the piece in the palm of your hand, roll a bit and use your chopsticks to pick it up and place the whole awesomeness into your mouth. Yes you must eat the whole thing in one mouthful to experience the interactions between the freshness of Sea Grapes, humble crunch of Mixed Quinoa and the dance of tuna and ham. Try this and be amazed. In the end, we had to double up this dish because we couldnt have enough of it ><!*****Alright here comes the most fancy-pancy-delicate dish of the night!!!!!****3. Caviar Cornet Duet $108 ---------3/5What? Caviar in a cone? And where can you find such cute icecream cone stuffed with caviar? It was definitely a dream come true. This little dreamy cone contains black sesame, basil, olive oil cavior and toro orange caviar. I did not know there were so many kinds of caviar! And I thought they always look black in color!! After taking quite some time to appreciate this delicate artsy piece (and taking many photos) I tried it. The taste was extraordinary. Please forgive me for the lack of words to describe it coz I've never had anything like that. The cone was crispy and remained dry despite the content inside. It was a bit salty too. The caviar was infused with fresh fishy taste. Ah.. there was more taste to it. Go and try! 4.  Braised Abalone & Ox Tongue $118---------------4/5Beautifully presented on a silver spoon just convenient for you to taste this wonderful dish in one bite. This dish combined abalone, ox tongue, and spanish inspired green tomato gravy. The red powder is pretty touch of precious pollen of Roselle. Abalone and ox tongue are my favorite but i've never tried putting them together and they went surpringly well with each other!!! The abalone was just nicely chewy and ox tongue was soft, marinated with tomato flavor. Mains1. Cups Drumsticks $58 ----------5/5I thought this was similar to the 三杯雞, a traditional taiwanese dish that serves chicken in three different flavors. But this one dish was a totally different story!! The green paste at the bottom was a combination of mashed potato and thai herbs. Don't be fooled by the red pepper, remove the red pepper if you're afraid of spicy. The chicken wasn'tspicy at all. The chicken was perfectly marinated with soy. It also brought a sweet after taste! mmMMMm Yum yum!! :)2. Quinoa w/ Black Truffle Egg Pasta ---------------2/5 Couldn't believe we were still hungry after several dishes so we decided to order something more "heavy" and this dish definitely caught our attention!! Black truffle with egg was such a temptation! I found this dish was a bit odd despite all the lovable ingredients. I loved the truffle and but I didn't like it with the "soy" taste of the pasta. 3. The Seductive Wrap $238 --------------3.5/5What a suggestive name haha! Seductive or not, you gotta DIY in order to make yourself a wrap! The dish was presented with Waygu tartare, Waygu short rib, Uni, Seaweed, Leaf, cabbage, garlic and kimchi. There was a sample of the wrap showing the different layers the corner for you to follow. First of all, I wasn't a fan of tartare so I may be biased! I found the waygu beef too chewy and I had difficulty to bite them into pieces. In the end I had the swallow the whole piece without seperating them. Of course, there was something that I was fond of. I loved the uni together with salty seaweed and shredded kimchi. I also liked the raw egg yolk in the soysauce together with lots of garlic. ^^ YUM. Make sure to brush your teeth afterward though. Haha!  Dessert Mango Pomelo Gelato Crumble $148------------5/5Last but not the least.... (drums behind plsss) DESSERT! In fact Naked's dessert was famous for their artistic presentation! I was really looking forward to it! Bored of the ordinary chocolate dessert? Give Mango pomelo gelato a go!Served on a thin, iced stone plate was the dessert deplayed in a diagonal fashion. We attempted to take photos to capture this beauty but failed. You really had to see it with your eyes. The yellow-durian looking ball was mango pomelo gelato and the pastry was pinapple crumble (the must-have of Taiwanese dessert!). What a refreshing taste for the spring and summer!! Slightly sweet and sour of mango pomelo gelato together with mint and crushed almonds definitely put a big smile on my face :))))Overall, satisfied with the dinner! Except the restaurant was a bit too busy so the serving was quite slow that day. But that won't stop me from coming again tho..probably at a much earlier time next time! Look forward to try the next artisfic foodpiece from Naked! :)…Read More

Seriously the Best!Worth every penny!
Kiwa Japanese Cuisine
2015-05-15
:)…Read More

Yummy Duck Confit and Waffle!
The Pudding Nouveau
2015-04-07
Arrived at Pudding Nouveau yesterday afternoon. I strongly advise you to make a reservation. There were only a few tables in a small shop, rather crammed!  I would have not gotten a table yesterday if I didn't make a reservation beforehand. Though I had lunch beforehand (and was extremely full) but I was curious to try their famous duck confit waffle! Mainuck Confit and Waffle, $138, rate 9/10  --> recommended! Savory waffle isn't really my cup of tea but this waffle has proved me wrong. The combination of duck and waffle is really new to me (or strange even) but it turned out very well! Duck meat was tender inside and cripsy outside. It has a nice salty flavor to it but not too strong. While my friend prefered to eat the egg and the duck seperately I liked to dip the crisp duck skin to the runny eggyolk. What a joy!!! super yummy!!! The waffles were a tad bit cold when they were served and lack of flavor. But the honey just added a slight sweet kick to this dish. A great balance to this savory dish. Organic Jasmine Tea: $38, Rate: 7/10 As a Chinese, I love to order tea at the end of the meal. Some say tea takes away the fatty/oily taste off your tastebud. This one served that purpose right ^^ and i was ready for dessert!!Smoked chocolate panna cotta : $58, Rate: 8/10 Normally there would be smoke but the smoke machine was down :( Minus the optical effect, im very satisfied with this dessert! The chocolate icecream and milk pudding was homemade! The icecream was creamy, thick and smooth. The texture was similar to the chocolate icecream of Dreyers. The milk pudding had a slight sweet taste to it, just perfect for me :) The cornflakes added crunchy texture to this dessert. However, i found it not crispy enough? Probably it was put out in the air for some time already! If there could be more toppings or toppings to choose this would be 10/10! …Read More

Waffling Beans
2015-04-07
It has been my 5th year living at western HK. I am super excited of the recent opening of Sai Ying Pun and Kennedytown Mtr line! The western district has changed a lot compared to the time when I first moved in. It was considered as the older part of HK. You can find shops selling dried food, dessert shop that has opened for more than 100 years old. Ever since the construction of MTR station, a lot of these old shops have been replaced by new restaurants, the kind that you'll find in Soho, Central. As a person from the 90s, I am slightly saddened as the old shops close but I am excited to see how the new shops lightup this old town with blasting energy. One day afterschool my friends and I decided to try out the Kennedytown station and explore the food around. Waffling beans immediately caught my attention. I LOVE waffles, pancakes, all that. And waffling beans has the right name to catch my eyes. It was around 6 and we felt like having early dinner. We were about to leave as we thought it was just a cafe selling waffles. Refused to leave just that, I checked out the menu by the door and I was so happy that it served food! real food for dinner that is. So we decided to have it a go! A lovely place to chill after a long day of school/work. Have a cuppa coffee and let the acoustic music to unwind you. The restaurant was playing "Just the way you are- cover by anthem lights" when I walked in. :) lovely. I really appreciate the interior decor of the restaurant- especially the use of lighting with paper lamps of special geometrical shapes and the neon light that says "take your time" in reverse. Magazines of all sorts. But I preferred to sit down and not doing anything. Paper lamps. Appetizer:Mushroom cream soup, Rate: 9/10The best mushroom cream soup i've ever tasted! Soup base was thick but not by cream but by all the tiny bits of mushroom. I can smell the aroma of mushroom as soon as it was served on my table :)  Mushroom arancini: $88, Rate: 7/10Highly recommended by the restaurant. You can hardly tell what's inside the fried ball until u open it! To my surprise, it is mushroom risotto! coated with bread crumbs before it gets fried!! I've never had anything like that before. Worth a try! but i prefer the old traditional mushroom risotto ^^Beetroot salad: $78, Rate: 7/10Beetroot- a new love on the top list for healthy food! All my fitness friends go crazy for beetroot. This lovely pink veggie is stuffed with antioxidants to get your skin silkly smooth. A very fresh and healthy salad if you don't mind getting your teeth pink! >< An great dish to share wtih your girlfriends but not your crush i guess  Mainsh! My Ribs, $188, rate 6.5/10Ribs that had been brewed in coffee for HOURS before it is served, giving a nice, soft texture. I couldn't taste the coffee in the meat. It was a bit bland without the sauce. Interesting combination with waffle which can be improved by making the waffle more fluffy.Aglio oilio spaghetti and basil, $108, rate 6/10Always my fav spaghetti to order, i like the flavor solely by humble ingredients of olive oil, garlic and cheese. The spaghetti was slightly overcooked and bland. Dessert:7th heaven, $68, rate 8/10Finally came my highly anticipated dessert!! Recommended by the restaurant was 7th heaven. With strawberry waffle and belgium chocolate flakes. I like that this dessert wasn't too sweet. The chocolate flakes add a nice texture and slight bitter-sweet flavor. Waffle was cripsy on the outside but not soft enought inside. >< overall i was happy with this dessert but i would be happiER If there is a scope of chocolate/vanilla icecream ^^ hehe talk about being greedy eh?Drinks:Apple and pinapple juice, $48, 7/10Refreshing drink by an interesting combi of apple and pineapple juice! Didnt know that they come together so well:)Rodenbatch Belgium craft beer, $64, 8/10Perfect beer for ladiesss. If you're not a typical beer person because of the bitterness, this one is for you :) Beer with slight sweet/sour plum like taste. I failed to find this from local supermarket in HK / \ I'll be back for this!!!Scrimshaw USA craft beer, $60, 6/10Not a beer lover but this one is easy on the ladies. Not bitter at all! Overall: 7/10 Recommend waffle dessert, belgium beer and mushroom soup! …Read More

Nice ramen at a very reasonable price!
Yokohamaya
2015-02-14
My classmates and I have beenhunting and dying to try sth new near Sheung Wan where we go to school. We found Yokohamaya, a japanese ramen restaurant that sits on a side street, about10 minutes walk from Sheung wan MTR station. It was a gloomy day and only half of the restaurant were filled when we went there at dinner time around 7. We didn't expect such a huge variety of food offered by a small ramen shop. Besides ramne, this restaurant also makes Udon, or fried chicken rice with Japanese curry, Pork cutlet riceAn interesting find on the menu is the special dinner set for Men and Women. Though we are all girls but we ordered one man set and two women set just to try+ other side dishes  Starter:Takowasa $20 9/10Cold octupus dish with wasabi sauce. I love it! I am not a fan of octupus because of the rubbery and fishy taste but this one is not rubbery at all! It is fresh and taut. The wasabi was just nice to take away the fishy smell of octupus. Recommend! Tofu in three styles!!!Wafu style, Sesame sauce, Ceasar style:Sesame style is my fav. Can't say no that sauce ><!!! Karaage (8/10) $35Fried chicken + lemony soy sauce. Savory + slightly sour would surely increase ur apetite! Although i found this dish was more of a vietnamese taste, but i like it! :)Chicken Nanban (9/10) (came with set) Fried chicken with mayo sauce! Served sizzling hot! Cripsy, yet tender fried chicken!! perfect combination with mayo?!!! who would have thought of that before?!  Tamagoyaki $38 6/10Thick japanese sweet egg cake. The top of the cake was slightly roasted.  This is super filling! I think it tasted a bit bland tho. Will not recommend this. Gyoza $40 6/10Japanese dumplings have always been my fav! This one wasn't bad. I like the thin dumpling skin, however dumpling skin wasn't crispy. Mains:Shiratamahime Hokkaido 3.6 Milky ($78 dinner set + $10 ) 8.5/10Without the picture, I would think that this was some kind of milk drink instead of milk RAMAN if i just read the title without looking at the photo. Apparently this one has the famous hokkaido 3.6 milk as the soup base!!! My only experience with milk in soup was a fish noodle shop from a food market in singapore. I've been trying to find that flavor again!! This ramen jus fulfilled all my wishes i guess. Served hot (beware the bowl was hot!!, ROASTED cha siu, corn with BUTTER, and hokkaido milk soup? it was perfect!! I like that the soup wasn't super salty with heavy flavors like the other ramen shop. It was of a light, salty taste. Beware! if ur a girl who eats like a man, this portion is not the right portion for u! size it up to the man's set!!  Kimchi Cheese ramen (Men's dinner set) $95, 7/10When korean and japanese flavor fuses together!! I have never seen anything like this, esp with the melty cheese too? The soup was yummy! More savory than spicy! but u still need to drink a lot of water after this. Kimchi wasn't as spicy as the regular ones that i have at korean restaurant. Overall was okay but i would prefer the hokkaido soup base more! Overall, we had a feast at a very reasonable price. If you wanted to have decent japanese food but don't wanna pay the big bills, try here!! …Read More

Finally, a legit "Fong Tai" Japanese buffet in HK!
Daixijia Japanese Cusine
2015-01-11
My first "Fong Tai" experience traced back to 2010 when i moved to HK to study uni. "Fong Tai" is a japanese buffet which u order food by filling out different form/food lists. At busy hours, all the tables would be packed by people. For food, there were forms that indicate different types of food- sashimi, fried, grilled, noodles etc . I remembered feeling very impressed by the variety of food and cheap price until I had the taste of the real thing. : \ Quality of food was terrible despite the unlimited quantity of dishes provided. Sashimi that didnt look fresh and was cut badly.. fried food that tasted like theyv been fried too many times.. I tried other "Fong tai" over the years but i always came to the same conclusion that it was no good. ... until i tried DAIXIJIA! Conveniently located at Jordan, I went to Daixijia with two of my friends on a weekday for dinner. To avoid the busy crowd, we chose an odd time to visit there.. (around 6 pm). As I expected, the restaurant was quiet with only 2 tables taken. My first impression of the restaurant was that it was very clean, and neat. It didn't have the usual sticky floor and cramming tiny tables. The manager seated us at a table for four by the window and kindly explained to us that we could get wtever drinks we like from the fridge. self service! not badd. The choices for drinks : coke, and other "normal" soda, korean soda, even milkis! :)As we were flipping through the forms to pick our food, a sashimi platter came unexpectedly with dry ice floating in the air! Call it fancy!!There were more than 7 kinds of sashimi, fairly divided so that each one has a piece (HaH no fighting!) The sashimi were AMAZING, beautifully sliced, and most importantly very fresh!!! It was very different from the de-frose ones that u have from supermarket. my fav was the salmon tummy sashimi, it was so rich and full of flavors and not fishy at all! we took our time to fill out for the food forms while enjoying the sashimi platter :) Most of the sashimis displayed on the platter can be refilled. Heres a rough break down of the food that we ordered! Sushi: Grilled salmon , grilled beefGrilled salmon sushi was definitely the STAR of this dinner. Slightly acidic sushi rice was a great match to the juicy grilled salmon, so full of flavor!!! It kinda lingered in ur mouth as if it was cheese. HMMM. We had to order 3 more rounds for this baby! Grilled: Fish, scallop, squid, pinapple, beef ribs, chicken wings  Recommended: Pinapple, mackerel, chicken wings, sweet potato   Unlike the previous "fong tai", this restaurant only grill the food that you request. there wasnt any pre-grill or pre-made taste. The grills were also served sizzling hot!!!   The savory chicken wings were perfectly seasoned! Just right amount of saltiness. The wings were not dry at all, super juicy! we had to reorder this two more times throughout the night  pinapple was the yummiest dish ever! no doubt! It was hot, and soo sweeeet! no artifical flavor ! We reordered again!!Sweet potato: 3 small ones on a stick, served hot. the honey glazed potato skin added a nice sweet flavor. perfect for dessert :)))Beef ribs were very dry and impossible to chew :( probably we left it out for too long n it hardened as it cooled? i dunno but i won't recommend this. Scallop was alrightt but the sauce in the middle was too thick and heavy. Fried: fried cheese mochi cake, tofu, chicken cartillageThe fried food were average. But the fried cheese mochi cake was rather special : ) The small portion is right, one person each. Others: Korean style fried clamsTowards the end of the dinner, the chef kindly asked for our opinion (how nice), and recommended us to try a special dish - Korean style fried clams. The portion was hugee! Good for 3! We thought we could not possibly finish it but after the first bite we loved it!!! It was a savory, spicy dish using the famous korean spicy bean paste.  My friends found it slightly too salty but i have a salty tastebud i tot it was alright! This dish was rather spicy.. so.. u've been warned! >< Personal recommendation: make sure u get a beer when u order this! they go so well together ^^ Overall: DaiXiJia really changed my perspective about Fong Tai with their top-notch quality, service, and variety. This will be the only place that I recommend for Fong Tai!! Yes! It is THAT GOOD! …Read More
