Sticking to my New Year's resolution of drawing rein on Friday nights in order to stay fresh for the weekend, finally got up to Dim Sum early enough to avoid the crowds. Two aborted missions on previous weekends due to at least 20 wannabe diners queued on footpath had hardened my resolve to be early this time. And what a difference it made. Ushered straight to a booth, we could enjoy the restaurant's considerable ambiance and old world charm, evocative of a sleepy Shanghai tea house circa 1923, in peace and quiet. Wait staff were unhurried and the service was quick, and the celebrated tit bits tasted oh so much better without having to deflect the glares of impatient dim-summers hovering for a table. The fried meat and pepper dumplings continued to deliver, and the sago pudding for dessert was a revelation, despite late calls for a switch to the mango version.
