Will's Skewer Kitchen
2018-03-24
I live near this place and posted the chicken skin skewer on IG which my colleague saw. It is rare that there is such a big chicken skin skewer and he immediately asked me where I had this which led to him organising a team dinner at this palace. We arrived 10 min late and they set up a table for 12 which means we literally occupied half of the space as the restaurant is quite small. This was good in taste but a little bit too burnt for my taste. The chicken skin was which lead us here and quite special as it is grilled flat and looks like a sail. It is very crispy and definitely a must try.Up next is the octopus mouth bbq skewer which my colleague ordered. Tried the first time. Is juicy but not crunchy or crispy so not the texture I prefer if it comes to bbq. But my colleague liked it very much.Eel was good and I have it almost every time I’m here. Crispy from the outside and chewy in texture. The pigeon eggs rapped in bacon were a first try and better than expected. I really liked it. Worth an encore. One of my favourites and recommended by my colleague that tried it at other places. Lychee wrapped in bacon and grilled to perfection. A flavour of sweetness and juicy. Delicious! Also my favourite and I always order no matter where when I go for yakitori/skewers is chicken wing. Could be a bit more crispy today hence -1 star for this time but generally good. I had to google for the English name of this clam species. According to google translate it is Noble... sounds noble lol and tastes noble . Big and juicy juicy with the flavour of garlic. I give this dish 5 star. It was the daily special. All in all we were all happy with the meal and for the amount we ordered price was reasonable. It is small but things come served hot and quality is good. I recommend this place and I definitely will come again.…Read More

First time I have been here as one of my team members joined the Mira membership where we can get 50% off on the dining. The decor is nice and the environment quiet. Most of the dim sum was basically mostly what you can get at other yum cha places but “touched up” with a piece of expensive ingredient such as abalone, foie gras or birds nest. The egg tart is my favourite mainly also because I love egg tart as a matter of personal preference. Cuisine Cuisine is giving it a posh finishing by adding some birds nest in the tart. Taste is good and definitely my favourite dim sum of the day.Up next is the deep fried taro ball with foie gras inside. Definitely not for high cholesterol people but it does taste very good and fluffy. Highly recommend this.Prawn dumpling with pigeon egg. The pigeon egg is al dente and really good. Even though not my favourite dim sum definitely done very well. Abalone siu mai which again looks and sounds posh but the abalone doesn’t taste that great and too small I reckon. Siu mai tastes average and no significant difference than what I usually have at other yum cha places.“Yin Yang” fried rice which looks great but the portion of rice and sauce is not in proportion. Too much sauce and too little rice. I’m not a fan of the sauces either that taste a bit bland. My conclusion is there are some dishes that are above average and some that are just average. The expensive ingredients really don’t add much flavour to the food in most cases and therefor may not be worth the up price. …Read More

Empire City Roasted Duck

This is our favourite place for Peking duck. We literally had a Peking duck feast as you can see in the picture. We ordered 3 Peking duck and this is the best Peking duck I have had so far in HK for following reasons:1. Crispy skin with the fat under the skin removed hence not as fatty and unhealthy.2. In addition to the cucumber and spring onion there are additionally melon stripes which goes well with the Peking duck wrap.3. My friend enjoys the thin pancake although I’m more a fan of a thicker pancake.Just to give everyone’s information I have tried the Peking duck in Ye Shanghai, Peking Garden, King’s Lodge, Lei Garden, etc just to name a few and this restaurant serves the best. In addition we ordered “little dragon buns” which is not bad in taste with a thin skin but it could be more meat and generally the standard is good but not the best I had.If you are looking for very good Peking duck in Hong Kong this is definitely the to go place.…Read More

First time I have been here and waiting time is one hour . But definitely value for money. Steak was great with unlimited refill in fries and a salad and bread ahead of it. Honestly I’m not a big eater and after a salad and some bread I was already 30% full. I wanted my steak medium and my friends ordered medium well and medium rare lol. All of us were happy and the steak was cooked as we demanded. It was juicy and the texture of the meat was good. Not too fat and tender. Atmosphere was a bit hectic and loud but other than that and the waiting time nothing to complain. Steak which is the only thing they serve was great. Considering the price great value for money.Overall rating: recommend if you love steak and don’t mind waiting and want value for money. Will go again but will try to visit the TST new shop and hope the quality is just as good and don’t need to wait that long. They should really consider letting people book.…Read More

Leisurely Veggie
2018-03-15
Here for the second time and I am not really a veggie person but if we want to go for veggie this is my favourite place. It has fusion style veggie dishes. The best is the Mango Veggie Handroll which was sooo good that I ate it before taking a pic. It tastes fresh and crunchy and the raw veggies blend excellently with the mango. Apologies for no pic.Now the Veggie bun. Full points for the looks and presentation but taste is just average.Portobello mushrooms: well it tastes good but really not much cooking skill required comparably hence in line with expectations.:)Enchiladas is colourful in presentation and looks good but taste is just average. Like the ones in authentic Mexican/American restaurants more. Fries weren’t crunchy and crispy. Now the desserts. Both napoleon and green tea layer cake were good in taste and portion size was reasonable. Recommend.:)Overall rating is worth coming again if you want a full vegetarian meal. It has a variety of choices from fusion to more Asian or more Western style and a great selection of teas. Not all dishes taste good hence you may need to come a few times and find what is your taste and what you like.…Read More

My friend chose this restaurant which is very cliche Italian in decor. Waiter dressed very elegant. Environment quite special. First we had lobster ravioli and I forgot to take a pic but it was good but the portion was too small. Then we had a steak which was good. But of course thicker cut would be good. But in general sauce was good and went well with the beef.Dessert we ordered carrot cake. As recommended by the waiter it really suffices for 2. For my taste too moist.…Read More

First time I went here because my colleague said the Chinese good at Kerry Hotel is not bad. I went with my parents and we ordered 4 dishes for sharing. Most of them were recommended. We wanted to order seafood but all sold out pre CNY.First we ordered Deep Fried Chicken. Very good. Juicy from the inside and crispy from the outside but not too fatty/oily.2nd dish was golden fried prawn with mango osmanthus flavour. The presentation is very nice especially considering it is Chinese food. The prawns were big and crispy but the mango taste was overwhelming and I did not taste any Osmanthus flavour at all. Also dish was a too “heavy” for our taste. You feel stuffed easily eating it.3rd dish is eel fried with honey glazing. It is a recommended dish but again too “heavy” meaning you feel easily stuffed after 1 or 2 pieces and it is a bit hard and not chewy. Last dish was rice in lobster soup. Not bad and decent portion with reasonable amount of seafood inside. We couldn’t finish it and it should equal around 5 bowls so we had 3 and packed the rest for take away.Overall rating is worth going again to try other dishes. From the chicken and rice I feel the flavour and quality can be quite good. The other two dishes are special and recommended but really not that great and too filling/stuffing and maybe also my bad ordering too much deep fried food. The environment is great with sea view on Victoria harbour. Service is ok but I think they forgot our soup as it came much later after we chased and were done with everything else.…Read More

Chinese New Year Brunch
Seasons
2018-03-14
I was the first time here for Chinese New Year and my cousin likes this place especially cause she likes beef tar tar and this is the only buffet I know with all you can eat beef carpaccio and beef tar tar. I was too busy eating it so didn’t take pictures but it was the highlight of the semi-buffet brunch and top notch. I started with soup and bread. Cauliflower soup was just average but the bread and butter is really good. Give it 5 stars. Then there was a seafood platter as a starter. Lobster was ok and oyster too “skinny” meaning too small. Not much flesh. :(Then the next dish is a choice of eggs in different styles. I went for the omelette. Omelette was good but the bacon was a bit too chewy/hard.Then for the main here are 3 choices from the menu which is beef, chicken anf salmon. I went for the roasted chicken which was good. Now already quite full I went to the dessert buffet which has a spread of chocolates, marshmallows, 雞蛋仔 (egg chicken son), macaroons, fruits, chocolate cake and pear pie. The chocolates were ok, didn’t try the marshmallow as I am not a fan of it in general, 雞蛋仔 came in original flavour and green test flavour which were both freshly made hence good, macaroons toosweet and pie was ok but not my favourite. Fruited was great. Conclusions: Overall if u like beef it is great but the rest is not bad but definitely not overwhelming. Service is ok but we had to chase for the seafood and had to wait quite long.…Read More

Trying this out the first time with AE card 50% off with my friend. We went for a lobster dinner lol: lobster bisque, lobster risotto and lobster linguine. But instead of lobster salad we chose crab meat avocado salad.First the soup. Taste is good and there is a small piece of lobster inside the soup. Then we had the crab and avocado salad. The taste was good but too little crab. For the full price I would expect more. Given it was at half price still acceptable. The lobster linguine is really good. I liked it. And had the lobster meat in it as well. Sauce slightly creamy and noodle had good consistency. The lobster risotto was ok. Risotto was not bad but had better ones before in terms of consistency. There were three lobster pieces in it which seemed like more than the lobster linguine. Now dessert time. We went for Mango Napoleon with Vanilla Ice Cream and 3 scoops of ice cream. White Chocolate ice cream & Lychee and Strawberry Sorbet. Napoleon was good but a but smalls. Not sure why the hazelnuts were there. Doesn’t really match but tasted good. Lychee sorbet vey strong in Lychee taste and White Choco ice cream tasted quite good and special. The strawberry sorbet wasn’t that great and tasted more like ice cream than a sorbet. The ice creams were not cold enough and started melting before when we started. Overall after 50% off is recommended but for full price there are better deals. But have to mention service is very good. Staff friendly and when we were cold they swapped tables for us. …Read More

Long time haven’t been here. Quality is ok. But for the price and the fact that u have two seatings and either at 11 or 1pm there are really much better options. So first is the char siu... bbq pork... that’s good and forgot to take pic before finishing lol...Taro is ok crispy but not overwhelming as not fluffy whilst the crispy is more hard...Then the little dragon bun lol... direct translation into English. Is ok but nothing compared to the Crystal Jade one. Then the deep fried tofu is just bad. Many places in elements better like prince or Tim’s kitchen... the skin is crispy but not thin and fluffy and there is no taste in the tofu.Spring roll first round tasted good and crispy but second round order tasted somehow too salty. Not overwhelming in total. Now this is the only dish that is truly good and reasonable price. Highly recommend. Rice with soup. The fried rice is hot and good in taste. Nothing to complain.Overall is ok quality. There are some good dishes and some bad dishes but for the price (not cheap) and taking to account that you are limited to two sessions I don’t recommend this as the first choice in elements. For approx the same price you get better taste at Tim’s kitchen and no time restriction.…Read More

First time I went here and I liked the presentation and for the quality I thought price was acceptable. Of course not in the normal price range of a normal day to day dinner but for the quality and presentation it’s actually very good. I would recommend going and will definitely go again.Let’s start with toast. Very good. Warm and tasty and soft inside crunchy outside. Now comes the menu. For such tasting menu absolutely a must otherwise I’ll forget what I have eaten. No menu to choose this is the only one as like in many of the high end European fine dining restaurants. Now the starter. Beautiful in color and good in taste.IG ready. Now the second dish which looks like flowers in the grass and taste refreshing. A salad with a slight sweet vinaigrette.Duck and Ravioli with a great soup... yeah the French call it consommé lol didn’t know what it was when I first time went for French top restaurant of the world but it literally means soup. Then with an herb oil infusion. Very good. Not as colorful and photogenic as the starters but absolutely good if not better in taste.Has to roll back to the menu to see what’s up next lol. Seabass... I think this was the not so good dish in the menu as the fish was too dry and not juicy but the asparagus was great.Next up is Saga. Gosh we didn’t know what it is before we googled lol. Basically it is Wagyu beef A3. And we discussed what the difference is between the grading and what M3 means for example which is basically M is Australian Wagyu whereas A is Japanese.Like it and prefer if the slice was bigger lol.Dessert time... tofu foam. 豆腐花 in western consistency with honey comb but strong ginger taste. Can only say interesting...Now comes the main dessert which is a modern interpretation of apple pie. Really like the different textures and the cheese ice cream. Has pistachio as well. Can encore. Finally end of the dinner 3 hours later lol... petit four... some interesting stuff. …Read More

Wagyu steak was tender but seems not as soft and juicy as the premium ones I buy in the supermarket. Lamb was great and portion size decent. Toast was good.
