A slice of peace in the corner
pal.
2025-08-08
Pal is a little corner cafe tucked inside the corporate entity that is Vwalk. If you want a break from excessive commercialism, you'll find it here. The menu is small, but delivers with heart and hearty meals. Avocado and coffee are the mainstay ingredients, so meals are packed with energy and drinks are rich with caffeine. This is a great place to go to enjoy brunch. One caveat is that on sunny days and before the mall officially opens, the corner in which the store resides can get a bit hot.…Read More

Black is sleek. This restaurant is not.
Black Coffee
2025-08-07
For a pricy, modern cafe in the heart of Yau Ma Tei, the food is unimpressive. We ordered their signature dishes: a risotto pancetta and a black charred pork chop with masala curry and rice. The presentation is good, but still within what you'd expect for the price and style. However, the food itself was miserable. The pancetta was gray and chewier than the year-old bubblegum you'd find on the underside of school seats. Moreover, it was flavorless, likely due to it being cooked with the rice. For such a rich ingredient, smoking it or charring it will bring out it's flavor... But it seems they let the risotto suck the life out of the pork belly... last year.On to the main course. The black crust was great, and similar to what you'd get from Japanese tonkatsu. However, the meat of the issue still lies with the chewy pork. One wonders how they can have a crust this crispy on a pork this chewy. But the worst was yet to come. Their sorry excuse of masala curry with rice, served with the black pork. The rice seemed like they were frozen and reheated, and were so dry that they clumped together. A sprinkling of paprika was all the attention the sorry sack of rice got, so let's turn our attention to the curry. And, my God, the sheer flatness of the sauce was an insult to Indian cuisine. Even a regular Japanese curry cube would be more flavorful. They tried to be cute with the sauce, adding tomato paste and okra, but there is no garam masala, or any spiciness whatsoever. The dirty tiramisu was okay. But Black Coffee does not deserve the line up that it had while we were there. One thing to note is that the washroom requires you to go on a little adventure, just adding that little salt in the wound to the bad dinner that we had.…Read More

Amazing Izakaya
Mata Japanese Cuisine
2025-07-29
It's easy to import a bunch of Japanese sake and cook a bunch of classic Japanese snacks and call yourself an Izakaya. It's another thing to be able to bring a level of authenticity to the assortments of Japanese foods. This cramped, dingilgy lit bar is filled to the brim with anime memorabilia, Japanese folklore, seasonal sake and amazing food. The servers take care to bring a level of hospitality, echoing the atmospheric friendliness of Japanese bars.…Read More

Tasty ramen
Ebisoba Ichigen
2025-05-07
This restaurant is focused on ramen with shrimp based soup. It doesn't have a lot of choices in terms of ramen, but this hidden gem offers a rich, seafood-forward freshly made broth that stands out in a sea of pork and chicken-based soups. The shrimp-infused broth has a deeply aromatic smell with a natural sweetness. It has a velvety texture that coats each noodle perfectly. Unlike heavier pork broths, this one feels lighter, with medium thick ramen of just the right chewiness, making people willing to return in the next time of visit.…Read More

Great Korean classic
Yadllie Plate 야들리애플래이트 (兆萬中心)
2025-04-23
Yadille Plate is filled with South Korean classic dishes. Located in the heart of Yau Ma Tei, this restaurant offers top-quality meats. Especially love the pork belly, as the restaurant provides plenty of vegetables and side dishes. The pork was in thick, juicy cuts that crisp up beautifully on the grill. The side dish are fresh and plentiful, with kimchi, pickled radish, and seasoned beansprouts that complement the meats well. One free additional plate of vegetables is provided. The Korean sauce and pork matched well with the fresh vegetables. However, waiters are not too aware when the waiter bell is pressed. Their attitude are good though.…Read More

Unlimited time hot pot
101 Grill Bar + Hot Pot (Soundwill Plaza II - Midtown)
2025-04-21
This restaurant has unlimited dining time for the dinner slot. With one price, it included unlimited ordering of foods and drinks, including alcohol. The beef was tasty and was not too thinly cut, making it juicy with the hot pot soup. Especially like the alcohol as it included cocktails. Not only red Sangria was provided, white Sangria with fruits inside was served. Whole bottle of wine would be provided on free order as well. Overall, this restaurant provided a good dining experience and is a good choice with family and friends.…Read More

Great Shanghai Food
Modern Shanghai Imperial
2025-04-21
This restaurant is a traditional Shanghai restaurant. The vibe is relaxing, and waiters are welcoming. Chinese tea and appetizer are provided with charge. Pu er was dark and smelled good. Foods are amazing, like the Shanghai crispy chicken and the sweet and sour squirrel fish. The Shanghai crispy chicken had a special sweet and salted source that matched with the chicken perfectly, and the skin of chicken was crispy and crunchy. As for the sweet and sour squirrel fish, the skin's crispiness was not affected by the source, which makes it tasty. However, they are quite expensive.…Read More

Try Sooner than later
Sooner
2025-03-22
Sooner is a chill cafe with unique foods and a nice comfy atmosphere. As a chill, European style cafe, Sooner offers unique foods that distinguish it from its many competitors. It's got some tasty twists to old pasta favorites, like White Bolognese and Crispy Black Gnocchi. The mocha I had is nothing special, and its unique twist on tiramisu is worth a try, but not to my taste. It is also open rather late, at 12pm, making the kitchen a bit overwhelmed during the inevitable lunch rush.Still, each dish is competently presented. Along with great aesthetics and vibes, Sooner makes for a great choice for a chill afternoon.…Read More

Authentic Tandoori
CHUTNEY
2025-03-22
Chutney is a restaurant of great food, high class service, with a lovely atmosphere. The curries were great as expected of great Indian cuisine, but the star of the show were the tandoori plates. The tandoori octopus gave a surprising texture, non-chewy, tender, and juicy. Great appetizer. Additionally, the tandoori lamb chops were thick and juicy while still being heavenly spiced and roasted perfectly. Dipped in sauce, it is one of the best meats I've tasted. The service was quick and graceful. Even after a last-minute change from a reservation of 4 to 5, the service staff handled it well. A level of professionalism can be seen from the staff. Unfortunately, the aesthetics of the dinner was partly ruined by the interior design. Don't get me wrong, the design is modern and sleek, but keeps a rustic, authentic Indian vibe. I especially love the way they designed the washroom entrance. However, the cement dome roof caused all conversations in the restaurant to be amplified, making it hard to hear what the person across the table was saying. Some well-hidden sound dampening patches will complete the excellent atmosphere they have going.…Read More

Hidden Western Gem
Mr.O
2025-03-11
On the top floor, in a hidden corner of a quiet mall lies a somewhat garishly decorated western restaurant. But, you'd be remiss in not trying Mr.O, as it has some of the best value for the quality of food it provides. The chef is obviously passionate about food, and creates high quality western favorites such as the Parma Ham Pizza, Chicken wings, Waygu Beef Steak, Pork Knuckle, and many more. The chef pays close attention to the aesthetics, and each dish is presented with thought and care.Importantly, the price can be completely reasonable, while still having expensive options such as raw oysters that are equally high quality. However, the waiters are at times unaware, and the kitchen can be slow during busy hours. Plus, you'll have to serve your own water and dishes. Not exactly a fine dining experience, but the quaint bird cages and vineyard decorations have certainly cemented Mr.O as a great hidden gem.…Read More
