We came here for the lunch specials. As soon as we set down, the staff filled our table with different side dishes. So we can fully explore the menu while nibbling on the side dishes. We ordered the BBQ trio, which consisted of 3 different types of meat. They looked wonderfully marinated. Once the ignition started, we had to work with the fire. Korean bbq needs constant control and attention. The taste of the BBQ meat was so boosted, juicy and tender. Veggie after being touched by fire was great! Since we are all cheesy people, the creamy, gooey Korean corn cheese got us really excited. It was so incredibly delicious. We set our grilled meat down with the rice (the rice was so smooth with egg yolk, minced beef, and scallion) and wrapped up in the fresh crispy lettuce. I know, it was a massive one-bite, but it is an amazing way to eat BBQ meat.Korean beef short ribs stew was OH-SO tender, they will melt in your mouth and you won't even believe it.…Read More

Happy time at the happy garden.

Thai-style minced pork with lettuce was a sure winner, the toasted sticky rice amongst the minced pork was very fragrant and elevated the whole dish. Hainan poached chicken seems like an easy task, but to nail a good poached chicken does put Chef's skill at test. The flavor was good, but the chicken was a bit dry.Spring rolls are an old-school, vintage dish. The stuff inside the roll seasoned really really well. Tasty!Dry shrimp tied nicely with the morning glory, one of the best dishes put out. Salty, sweet, and acidic. The fragrance from the dried shrimp peeked through on the aromatics. The stir-fried mussels were a tad mediocre.Overall, the restaurant has some really good recipes up their sleeves The prices are very modest, but of cos, if you order crabs or other special seafood, that would drive up the price a little bit.…Read More

Brilliant in so many ways
Tsui Hang Village (Mira Place 1)

Coming here is always a safe bet. Me and my friends are regulars. Catching up with each other over some fine dim sum and tea.We will usually order the signature hand-shredded chicken to the table, but yesterday, for a change, we ordered the rooted goose. For me, the visual is the prime thing to start off, and then the flavors kick in. I know it is very technical to get the crispy skin with the right glossy rosy color and the timing has to be very calculated, but the Chef nailed it. Crispy goosy skin and juicy lean meat came out shining. The fried squid had a shattering crust, maybe one of the best pieces of fried squid I have ever eaten. And when I tempered it with the Worcestershire sauce, it was like throwing an accelerate on it. The kitchen knows its way around frying squid.Pea shoots in broth were breathtakingly good. Cook time was calibrated to perfection.Shrimp dumplings and other dim sum were gorgeous, a little bit tastier and more stunning in look than I am accustomed to.Only the fish paste ball was a little tough. The Chefs are on top of their games, they have finesse and techniques. High praise!…Read More

Winter Solstice Dinner, table for 11. Cantonese dinner literally means having all the comfort food you grow up on with family, it is a nostalgic type of dinner.Peking duck - the crispiness of the skin was good, and the wrappers were soft and tasty. I only hope there is sweet sauce on the side to put into the wrapper. The lobster on braised noodles was flavourful. The fresh lobster was meaty, firm, and snappy! The noodles were so eggy. Satisfying! For the price of 178, we wanted to order one more portion! Sweet and sour pork is a classic unpretentious Canton dish, the florescent shade of sweet and sour orange sauce glides over the crunchy and tender meat, pineapples, and bell peppers. Thumbs Up! Steamed fish is the mainstay on many HK families' tables. There is a very little window for mistakes when it comes to steaming fish properly. The difference between overcooking and undercooking is 30 seconds. I am always very surprised at how much some Chinese folks are willing to spend on fish at the restaurant. But here, we did not spend a fortune on the delicate fish. The soy sauce was well seasoned and elevated the aroma and flavor of the fish.Mutton pot is a heavy, stodgy type of dish. There is a lot of death in the pot. Mutton, bean curd sheet, mushroom, and bamboo, they were harmonious in one pot! The mutton was cooked beautifully.Braised duck wings were a side dish that earned my extra brownie point. The braised duck wings don’t have much fat, few solid duck meat, so loved by me. The sauce is thin in consistency but well-balanced in flavor.None of the dishes served had that witty kind of spin, but on the same note, none of the dishes came out of place. They were all flavourful, and fresh and it was the whole Canton on my palate.…Read More

Beef your way up
牛大人台灣火鍋吃到飽 (形點 II)
2022-12-12
Taiwanese hotpot is a cultural cuisine of her own, and it resonates a lot with Hongkongers, palette. Dining here makes you feel like you are not too far from Taiwan. A wide range of condiments is set at the self-service counter, so you kick off your dining experience by mixing the dipping sauce on your own spin. The right dipping will reinforce the flavor of the food.Beef is almost all that stands in Master beef. The beef texture was really good, the meat kind of melted in your mouth. The marbling was not insane, but for this price, I think the restaurant did deliver. Beef is so rich in protein that boosts your energy and it hit every single flavor note in the palate. I love it!Cuttlefish paste is so delish to a point I think Master beef can put its stamp on it.We devoured everything we ordered. As a footnote, Gary the Manager had turned our experience from good to excellent with his attentive service. Thank you again!…Read More

Don't go anywhere, here is the place
SUSHI EXPRESS (Siu Sai Wan Plaza)
2022-12-11
I brought from time to time at the takeaway shop and really loved to try it at the dine-in restaurant with the conveyance belt to see see how it plays out. It is a lovely, airy restaurant. The chefs were able to keep the dishes tight and simple. The highlight of the whole meal was raw Toro and the hamachi, they really shined. The treatment of the fish was nicely executed. I love the flavor and nice bright colors of the raw fish.Another very impressive dish was Olive Flounder Muscle. With some chopped red onions and spice, (maybe some like lime zest) on top of the fish. Having the sweetest of the red onions and some spicy notes, together with the fattiness from the fish rounding everything up, the taste is so balanced. Nice explosion in the mouth. Very nice composition, nice and fresh and it is also beautiful to look at.Roasted eel is awesome too. The sauce is so rich and the fish is so thick in texture. The more simple the dish goes, the higher the level of execution, so the mistake can't be hidden. Well done Chef.Other dishes including squids, baked mussels, seared salmon, fish roes on Salamon, etc are all equally delicious. And they only charged a fragment of what the sushi place would charge. It is a very pleasing place to go.…Read More

1601 ain't half bad
Club Albergue 1601
2022-12-10
Dinner for 4. Let's start with the entree. We have ordered 2 entrees. First came to the table was the caviar on top of the crab meat. The presentation stopped us from our track. The dish came to us in a tin caviar box, which looked monstrously expensive and every bite of it was a party in the month. The chef was so talented at curating the flavors. The second entree was beef and avocado salad - it was so overpriced. To be honest, the dish was well structured and tasted light and refreshing. Too bad the hefty price turned a good dish into a bad dish. 4 pcs of sliced beef on top of a tiny bit of salad cost 300 HKD. I think that the dish is a total rip-off and I stood by my words. Move on to the main course. The signature risotto was totally in the right ballpark. It had a little bit of umami, was well adhered (not runny at all), with a note of cheese, and the flavor was very well-balanced. Another main dish worth mentioning was the spicy pasta. A very legible dish. The chef executed the dish so well. The plate came out super al dente, bouncing in your mouth, and was absolutely savory. Became one of my favorite pasta now.We super loved the crispy pork. The potion was a bit less than we expected. Very crunchy skin and the meat was succulent. The parameter for good crispy pork was a good crunchy skin and the Chef had nailed it. I only wish that the potion could be a bit more generous. The roasted chicken was a very standard dish. It did not have the shock and awe. Finally, Napoleon cake with a scoop of ice cream. The oblong cake had a perfect striation, crunchy and delicious. Dessert deity! As a footnote, I should add that we received very attentive service, which was a big plus. And the restaurant decks out a very well-dressed Christmas tree, giving a very festive vibe. …Read More

Dim Sum option in K12
Ah Bu
2022-11-07
I love the idea that we could order some dim sum as 2 pcs instead of 4 as we were dining as 2 people. Some of the dim sums were very cute looking and I had the urge to take a picture before chowing them down. My personal favorite is the soupy mutton dumplings. The minced mutton has a distinctive savory umami, which leaves me wanting more. Best to go with the balsamic sauce. Not that we should eat pandas, but you know what I mean. These almost-too-cute-to-eat panda buns are filled with custard and are so instagramable. Everything else is yummy. Not off the chart yummy, per se, but are sufficiently tasty enough. They serve coffee which is a great plus for coffee junkies like myself! …Read More

Signature Teppanyaki Sandwiches
HAND3AG (K11購物藝術館)
2022-10-28
This is probably one of the best casual restaurants with decent coffee I have been to in a long time. Service was great, with the staff quick on helping me when I spilled my coffee. We ordered 2 Teppanyaki sandwiches, a macaroon, and some other small bites for the 4 of us. Prices were about average You have all the goodies in your toasty sandwiches. The scallops in the toasts were fresh and delicious. The sauces were yum yum. I love how fresh everything tastes. Hang3ag does not come short on the ingredients, they are all solid. It was more than enough food and I had leftovers for another day which reheated fine. Safe bet!…Read More

I couldn't ask for a better place to eat in peace and be open in the air in Hong Kong Island. This casual restaurant is extremely airy, surrounded by a beach, nice mountains, a great neighborhood, and dog-friendly. The milk tea is outstanding with the right amounts of evaporated milk and a good blend of tea. The prices on the menu are very reasonable and the tea sets are so valuable. It is common to eat deep-fried chicken leg with french fries/ salad as an afternoon tea set in Hong Kong. The chicken legs here are scrumptious. Not only they are freshly fried, but the meat under the crispy skin also remains juicy. The taste is so vintage which is not easy to find in Hong Kong anymore. Salad is equally exceptional.Stir-fried instant noodles with pork chop is another signature of the house. I love everything on the menu! …Read More

5 out of 5 stars Canton restaurant
Continental Restaurant
2021-12-24
I have tried up a lot of seaside seafood restaurants in Cheung Chau over the year, and none of them wowed me, until I tried at Continental Restaurant, it's like the pinnacle of Canton casual restaurant (remember it is just an opinion, but I will stand by it) in Cheung Chau. What we ordered-Stir fried clams in black bean sauce- The clams were quite sizable, sweet and fresh, the sauce was sensational enough. This is a pretty quick and easy dish to make and it served us as the first dish. Deep fried Squid with Salt and Pepper- This is a solid dish. Actually the best out of all dishes. It was crispy and all the squid is so fresh, easy to chew and sweet. Salt and pepper are well seasoned, well balanced. We were wavering to order one more plate, but considering the food that are on the way, we decided to put on a hold. Sweet and sour pork - This is a classic dish, my favourite of all times. It was coated in light batter (sweet and tart flavor), cruchy and yet has the mositure locked in the meat. Pan-fried fish patties- This dish has a special place in my heart, because my grandparents are from a fish village in Zhongshan, and this fish patties is sort of like a typical standard dish at home dinners. The fish patties here did not disappointed me, I would give it a 4.5 out of 5. It tasted savory with soft texture. Mixed stir fried with Chvies and dried seafood- There is a lot going on in this dish. You have got everything in this dish, haha! There are chives, meat, dried mantis prawns, Squid and cashew nuts. It is a bit spicy, it goes incredibly well with beer. Crispy Tofu Tots- This is a dish everyone will love. It is so packed with flavor. The tofu they used is very soft and tasted rich in soya bean. Sizzling chinese lettece pot - The pot came in sizzling hot, the chinese lettece is so fresh and crispy, like it was harvested straight from the garden. It is stir fried with shimp paste. Deep fried Oysters pancake- Oysters pancakes has a very distinctive taste, briny, buttery. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.Roasted crispy pigeons- It came very appealing, and you can tell it is straight from the frying, looking all mahogany with crisp skin. Every individual taste buds are not the same, but for me, the meat is a tad bit gamy and bland in taste. But the dish came with special pepper and salt for dipping. This is my least favourite dish out of all. But, the whole dish got finished up even as the last dish the on table. This sensational dinner by the sea didn't come with a luxury price. I truly believe this is the cheapest quality restaurant in Cheung Chau.…Read More

Elegant place to dine
ClubONE Kornhill in Vogue
2021-12-20
Club one is a chained restaurant that specializes herself in throwing banquets, primarily in wedding banquets. the restaurant halls are very high ceilinged and airy. A few days ago, I went together with my husband and grandma to the branch at kornhill, which is the closest to us all. The restaurant is elegant, decorated with nice artificial bouquets, giving you a feeling of entering into a garden. Lots of interior glass doors, they are good at optimizing the distribution of natural light and the division of space. The restaurant does provide a pleasant environment which contributes great sensory input to the tastiness of the food. What we ordered: Stir Fry Black Pepper Beef Short Ribs The blend of taste was delicious, but the sauce was a bit thick. The texture of beef short ribs was optimal. If it cooked for too long, the meat would become rubbery. Stir-fried scallops with Broccolli-The dish costs a whopping 248HKD. Fortunately, we had cash coupons with us (and I think most of the patrons there are entitled to a 30% off from membership). The potion is not hefty. But the taste was divine. The scallops were very outstanding. Roasted Pigeons- Crispy skin, mahogany color, perfect size, nothing to complain about. Dope!It is not a bad choice to dine if you have the membership or cash coupons!…Read More

You will always come back to this place
Sun Ying Kee
2021-12-20
This place made me feel nostalgic. The smell from the tea and the people working there. Even though this local cafe has stood on Hysan Avenue for more than a decade, it is reasonably new and luminous. People who work there feel like they are part of your family.  I guess this is the feelings of human touch and interaction which is running scared of in this Artificial Intelligence epoch. I greatly enjoy the milk tea from Sun Ying kee. It gives you a jolt for any time of the day. It is wonderfully silky, highly caffeinated. The food on the menu is all familiar food. I have ordered an assorted fried noodle the other night, the noodles did a great job soaking up the sauce and the residual flavors of all assorted goodies with the famous 'wok hei' aka "breath of the wok". Last morning, I visited Sun Ying Kee gain, having their continental breakfast. You can choose your meat on the plate from pork, chicken, and fish.  My choice was pork with 2 sunny sides up egg. It came with Heinz baked beans and a crispy toast.   After the homey breakfast I felt like I will be on the top of my game the whole day.…Read More

Good but no surprise
The Pink Pig Music Bar and Restaurant
2021-12-20
Close to the sea, but not exactly sitting by the sea. Very small cafe, but the food quality is decent. Fish and chips are very authentic, also big in potion. Spettiggi Bolognese is also satisfactory. Toast with cheese is excellent. Barister at work has long face, like he hated his customers and the coffee he made is mediocre (nothing so fancy that you want to share on IG). There are only 3 tables available in the small cafe that face to the sea, so you can try your luck. If you could get a sea view seats, I'm sure the experience will level up. But we were not so lucky, we got to seat in the alley.…Read More

Second visit and still delicious
Thai BBQ Shrimp (Canal Road West)
2021-12-12
Two of us, we were slightly late for our booking, both left extremely happy. We both had lovely meals that we really enjoyed. My personal highlight was Oysters. Sautéed pumpkin in Thail style was in the hot dishes station yesterday, the blend of flavors was so perfect. The people who work in the restaurant always got genuine smiles on their faces, although I know that they are crazily busy, with patrons thronged at the door waiting to be seated at peak time. But once you was seated, you can really enjoy some shimp catching and bbq. Happy to recommend this venue and we will certainly continue returning. …Read More
