Location Good - Nothing Good
DJAPA
2018-08-27
I came back here a couple of times for the "Djapa Refresher" cocktail. The staff is attentive. Now I am running out of positive comments.I ordered the "Carne Stew" today for lunch and was actually impressive how nicely that tasteless food was presented. There were 8 tiny cubes of beef next to a mix of beans. No seasoning, no love.Despite the cool location and design, this is just another place where you pay the landlord but not for good food and drinks.VERY BAD VALUE FOR MONEY!!…Read More

Yaki ANA (World Trade Centre)

My friend and I arrived at 4.30pm and the restaurant was half empty. We asked for one of the available window tables. The waiter told us that these tables (see picture) are reserved for groups of 4-6 people only. We were seated on the smallest table between other customers. This was all confusing since one of table was occupied by only 3 people and another table later even given away to a staff member. We asked again whether we could not sit on the window and that we would move in case a bigger group walks in. This time we were told that there is a minimum charge to sit on a window table. Later, we tried to get a waiter on our table to place an order but were totally ignored by the staff. We left after 15min and nobody seemed to care.My friend who is travelling through was shocked and asked me if you get treated like this in all restaurants here.We were treated in the worst possible way and I am upset that my friend had to experience this kind of bad behaviour here.I wanted to share this extreme experience with all of you. Stay away. There are hundreds of other restaurants were your visit will be appreciated and you get treated like a customer.Text me if you need a good address for Sushi, Yakitori, etc.…Read More

Destination Optimist
The Optimist
2018-02-28
To be successful at such a location, you have to turn it into a destination , and that is what the Pirata Group did.Already one of my preferred places for a happy hour, I have now also become a regular to enjoy lunch and brunch at one of my favourite Spanish restaurants in town. Value for money is incredible and there is no other place in town where a Monkey 47 Gin Tonic can be enjoyed at HKD 88, correct me if I am wrong.Last Saturday, I enjoyed my first brunch at The Optimist, priced at HKD 348 per person. This includes appetizer buffet, 3 starters, main course and dessert. You can add free flow of prosecco and more for another HKD 180.The appetizer buffet is similar to their lunch buffet, packed with Spanish delicacies, from a variety of cold cuts, cheeses and salads to Chorizo in red wine sauce, gazpacho (cold spicy vegetable soup), crostinis, Spanish omelette and more. Be careful that you keep your appetite for what's coming after....The 3 starters were served together and consisted of Gambas a la plancha (blue prawns grilled on sea salt) served with a Kimuchi sauce, mushroom croquettas and broken eggs "Huevos Rotos (Iberico ham, chorizo, potatoes and eggs)...we specially enjoyed the Huevos Rotos which were served in a steel pan and mixed on the table. For the main course, we ordered and shared the grilled pork spare ribs and the charcoal grilled flat iron steak which was served with grilled veggies. The spare ribs were super tender and topped with a barbecue sauce, the Australian flat iron steak came with a delicious herby chimichurri sauce (FYI, the flat iron aka Oyster blade, is the most marbled muscle from the shoulder part of the steer and often used for hot pot). The flat iron was slighlty over done and the attentive waiter pleased us further by giving us a taste of their flank/flap meat steak. This piece of meat was served spot on, very juicy with a lovely beef flavour. This being said, even the flat iron was okay and we did not ask for this special treatment. We were really full now with the dessert still to come....For dessert we were treated with a caramel flan and a creamy cheese cake served in a glass with a berrysauce on the side.We couldn't have left more happy and the waiter Harman once again proved that the Pirata group is setting the standards when it comes up to customer care and service in Hong Kong. Including a virgin Mojito and espresso, our check was 449.50 per person. Incredible experience and we shall be back soon.Actually I am having dinner at Pirata tonight which belongs to the same group and is located on the top floor at the same building.…Read More

Steaks from perfection to shoe sole
Gaucho Steak Restaurant
2018-02-23
I had 3 times dinner at Gaucho over the past 18 months. The first time was okay but nothing spectacular. The second time I brought a friend and steaklover from overseas and it was so good that he asked me to book there again when he visited HK last December. Sadly, the 3rd time was a big disappointment and except for the waitress everyone failed to deliver; The steaks were all over-cooked and my friends signature marinated tenderloin had the consistency of a shoe sole. We needed to return that steak. The sommelier recommended us an alternative wine (Tannat Grape, HKD 900) since the one we actually wanted (Cabernet) was out of stock. It was the first time we had a red wine made out of the Tannat grape which was over-loaded with tannins to a point, where its no longer an enjoyment. It seemed the sommelier wanted to get rid of his over-stocked bad selling wines. My friend was too shy to complain and and ordered another bottle without having finished even half of the first bottle he ordered. The sommelier didn't care and charged us for both bottles.I have booked a table again for next week and wonder what they will serve me again this time. After all, I love Argentinean beef, just wished for more consistency from chef and supplier in Hong Kong. I will keep you updated and shall share my next experience with you shortly.…Read More

Just 1min away from Wanchai MTR, I go there at least once a month and love Chef Simon's food, Dhonna and the staff.I was there so many times and would actually love to see some new dishes on the menuAnother place where great value for money can be enjoyed and the dishes are served with a smile. I also love their non-alcoholic cocktails which are very refreshing.see you soon again....…Read More

My weekly roasted chicken
La Rotisserie (廈門街)
2018-02-23
I visit La Rotisserie, almost weekly to buy lunch or dinner for take-away. Their chicken is most of the time perfectly roasted and marinated, very juicy, with great value for money. Only HKD 78 for a quarter chicken with 2 sides, soup or iced tea. Sides are changing daily which keeps me coming back. …Read More

Giá Trattoria Italiana

I am a regular guest at Gia and love the little terrace below the big tree in the back of the restaurant. It's cozy and great to bring family, friends or a date. The service is very attentive and friendly. My favourite dishes are the Veal Ossobuco which is braised in red wine (very tender) and the Veal Milanese, the Italian Wiener Schnitzel. For the pizza, I would go to other places. They have recently changed the wine list and that was definitely not an improvement. I would suggest to order a bottle of Prosecco rather than the over-priced red wines. …Read More

La Pampa Argentinian Steak House
2018-02-22
I am big steak fan and have eaten in most steakhouses in Hong Kong. The Sirloin I had last week at La Pampa was one of the better ones I had in a long time.Although my steak was served medium instead of medium-rare, it was very juicy with a beef flavour hard to find when eating US corn fed beef. There is a lot if work to be done in this town when it comes to good quality beef, flooded with hormone and antibiotica-packed US beef. Sadly all that counts in this town is the tenderness of the beef, flavour and healthiness are secondary. This being said, the steak at La Pampa was surprisingly tender, I doubt though that the beef was organic which they claim on their website. The manager was very friendly and entertaining. The waitress wasn't and didn't even want to let me enter the restaurant when I tried to make the booking at 2.30pm (there were still people sitting and eating).Having eaten in all the other Argentina steakhouses in Hong Kong several times, finding a consistent steak quality is difficult. Saying this, Argentina beef is on the rise again and hopefully the reputation will soon be back at the point it was 20 years ago.…Read More

Buffalo Chicken Wings to die for
Burger Joys (君悅居)
2018-02-22
My favourite place for Buffalo Wings in town. The balance between the buffalo marinade and blue cheese sauce is perfect and I could eat these delicious juicy chicken wings every day. Their burgers also belong to the best in town. I can also recommend Burger Joys to vegetarians since it will be hard to find a better fish or mushroom burger in Hong Kong. The staff is very friendly and efficient and serve you with a smile.Indeed, happiness you can taste.…Read More

Almost famous but not consistent
Honbo
2018-02-22
I have ordered around 40 burgers from there which is telling you how delicious these burgers are. ...but, too often the burger is delivered soaked in oil which turns one of the best burgers in town into a nightmare. On Tuesday and after not ordering for almost 2 months, I placed an order through online dining platform again...The burger was good and like it should be. I want to give a better rating but had too many disappointments in the past.Keep it up...I will order again…Read More

Pici
2018-02-22
The Pirata group is setting the trends in this town and Pici is just another great concept with unbeatable value for money. HKD 148 for appetizer, freshly made pasta and a Tiramisu that can keep up with any Tiramisu served at the the high end Italian restaurants in town. The service is very efficient, attentive and super friendly, which is, sadly, hard to find in Hong Kong these days. Keep it up and I look forward to the new concepts Pirata will bring to Hong Kong shortly.Well done 👌👍…Read More

The location and tourists make this place survive
Thai Basil
2018-02-22
The service was bad, non of the staff trained or smiling or making us feel welcomed here - rude body language and attitude of Manager who slammed the check on the table like I have not seen it before. I guess he was upset that he was on duty during CNY. The green chicken curry (I believe the only curry on the menu below HKD 200) was nicely presented but had not too much to do with a Thai curry and was far too salty, too salty for my colleague. The soup was okay.We received the wrong drinks.I dont expect the food to be served at the same time if I go to a restaurant with an asian concept, but you all agree that a curry has to be enjoyed with rice. I had to ask the waiter 2 times until we finally received the steamed rice. You can get a far better curry in Hong Kong below HKD 100 and I would not return there ever again. As F&B professional, these places are always upsetting me because there are lots of other good restaurants in town who are working hard to offer good food, service and a positive eating experience - not at Thai Basil. …Read More

Very Average Steakhouse
La Vache!
2018-02-21
La Vache experience:- Staff was very friendly.- Salad was fresh, very small and had basically no dressing on it.- French Fries were good.- Steak was nicely cooked but completely flavourless and therefore disappointing. - The sauce was okay but the texture very strange (perhaps the sauce was frozen before or reheated too many times)- Coffee was horrible - Check was to high and therefore bad value for money…Read More

Great Neighbourhood Restaurant

A cozy neighbourhood restaurant at Sun Street in Wanchai. The ambiente is super cool and the service was friendly.I have tried the pork and duck rillette which was presented and tasted very good. I will definitely go there again and try the ribeye steak which was on display in a sous-vide machine.…Read More
