懷舊日本feel
Grandmama Cafe
2021-06-21
這間復古feel日式cafe好得.位置顯眼食材新鮮唯一不足是份量偏少Generally speaking, this old school style Japanese restaurant was really convenient. Inside the restaurant, there was a banner describing it. The food was good but the only flip side was the portion and the pricing. If the portion of rice is much bigger and the price is lower, then this would be a great restaurant. …Read More

Not Just Coffee (Man Hoo Court)
2020-10-17
This is actually my second review of the year 2020. Coronavirus is really bad and having had stayed at home for a long time, I was fortunate enough      to have the chance to hang out with friends again. This time not in Central but back to Kowloon side-Yaumatei. This coffee shop is called Not Just Coffee, maybe the restaurant owner wants to imply a message that not only coffee is sold but also lunch and other light meals. So my friend and I decided to pick two dishes and a cup of coffee. We had a crab meat linguine at first. In fact, we haven't tried such combination before so it was rather new to us. Mmmmm...yummy, the crab meat and the spaghetti matched really well. Then, it came the udon. The thing really surprised me was the soup base was separated from the udon, meaning that we can add in proportion to how much we like. I should give a 'like' for this. As a whole, we did have a good experience and we will try it again but not during weekends because of the crowd.…Read More

My best experience in SOHO
Doubleshot by Cupping Room
2020-10-17
On early October, my friend and I took the Star Ferry from TST to Central. Of course, I did a lot of 'homework' and found from Openrice that                  Doubleshot has an incredibly high rating. So we decided to visit the modern, chic cafe which is located on second floor of a commercial building. We    were immediately asked to have a quieter area and we ordered a kale salad, a carbonara, and lastly a dessert which is the fabulous burnt cheesecake. Overall, we did enjoy the taste of the food, and also the nice ambience which there isn't any lightings, most of the lights are from outdoor natural light. Anyway, I would highly recommend to friends who have never tried healthy superfood (the kale salad) and who have a sweet tooth. …Read More

A wonderful time
Lex Coffee

My last time of being in Sai Wan has already been a couple of years ago. Knowing that there are many new restaurants in this area, I decided to have a visit again. Last time I had fish and chips which was opened by a guy from Australia. This time I wanna try something new. And this restaurant is my      favourite one. When we was offered a seat and the menu, I picked pasta as there wasn't to many options.  Only salad, burger, risotto and pasta were served. Black truffle pasta is one of my favourite besides spring chicken risotto and beef burger. However, I think the latter two are too familiar to me so I tried something new. Yes generally speaking, although the design of the cafe was good and  I also liked the location so much, the pasta was just so so. I would recommend it to my friends but this would not necessarily be a highly recommended one. …Read More

This restaurant was taken on the first day of 2019. I was so delighted to try this restaurant. In fact, many many months I have seen this from openrice, which makes me fascinated as I love Taiwanese food a lot. The beef noodle also has many choices, from braised beef to beef tenderloin, to beef shank, I could hardly make a decision a first. But I then made up my mind to have braised beef noodle, the very original one. Given the fact that the location is TST and the quality was sound, when I saw the price tag $68, I was really shocked. How can it be so inexpensive? As a whole, I really enjoyed dining at this restaurant. But if it also serves other Taiwanese food as well, I think I might give a second try.…Read More

Guts Soul Kamameshi (Amoy Plaza)
2019-05-01
After having my Japanese class finished in Kowloon Bay, I was reminded that there was a famous Japanese restaurant in Amoy Plaza. That's why I did a lot of 'homework' before having dinner at this traditional Japanese cuisine. There were many options. From unagi rice to beef rice, from seafood to pork belly, I found it quite hard to choose. Yes, that is what economics tells us we all have wants and desires. But I finally made up my mind and picked Unagi Kamameshi as I love eel rice a lot. It came out so far so good and everything has been done. I really appreciate the chef's patience and creativity of the taste of the food and the interior design. I think I would recommend to my friends and I will try it again next time.…Read More

One of best semi-buffet in Kowloon
Bellevue Bar and Grill
2019-05-01
This restaurant is located in Yu Fat Plaza in Yaumatei. It's not far away from the MTR station. In fact, this restaurant has been named as the top 20 ranking of best openrice restaurant, which is also why I chose this one. The food had risotto, pasta, fish and steak. But the only negative side is that you must order a buffet somewhere at $88 plus a main course between $70-120. If I can only pick the  main course, it would be a huge bargain cuz this restaurant had a very good open view with good service quality. But I don't really think I will visit this restaurant in the short-term.…Read More

We had a try at this nice restaurant on May 1. It was quite hard to find as it was on the first floor of a commercial building. Yet, we did manage to find. The exterior of the restaurant, i.e. the facade and design were so special and I am sure the 90s should like it a lot. So then we sat down and chose 3 courses, which were squid ink shrimp noodle, unagi omurice, and a fried rice. What I could say is that it is extraordinarily tasty and it was more like a fusion restaurant (crossover, like Japanese mixed with French or Italian...etc). Generally speaking, we find it satisfying and we will definitely have another visit soon.…Read More

Enjoy Life

When I first saw this restaurant from openrice, I thought it's a traditional Chinese style tea room with a spacious environment. But when I walked toward the intersection between Boundary St and Yu Chow St, I realised that it was only a small cafe serving some light meals. This might have subtracted some points of my perception of this restaurant. But since I saw many 'likes' from this website, I dared to have a try at it. In fact, I have made up my mind when I knew this cafe. So I did not ask for the menu but just said the name I was going to order- tuna salad waffles ($68). Although the location and site were not that good, the price was quite reasonable and the taste of waffle was heavenly like. I would strongly suggest this dish for dummies who don't have any ideas of what to get.As a whole, I won't be visiting in the short term but would like to have a second try if the service improves and more food varieties are offered.…Read More

Beans (Hoi Pa Street)

Sawdust Pudding in a flower potThe exterior of Beans cafeThe location: Hoi Pa Street which is quite convenient and close to schools and public transportThe service: not-good-not-badThe food: It mainly serves snack food and desserts. I would personally recommend the Sawdust Pudding ($48) and Red Bean Waffle ($39). In addition, panna cotta is a must and for those with small appetite, it would suit the most. Six types of panna cotta are served, with the most famous one being Cookie.Overall: I would give a 8/10 for this cafe. The remaining yet to improve is the service and ambience (it can focus more on decoration and play some pop music).:)…Read More

HeEat
HeSheEat (白布街)
2014-02-20
This was my first time enjoying dessert inside a cafe. After strolling through Prince Edward Street West, then Sai Yee Street, I finally saw a path called Pak Po Street (not sure if this is correct pronunciation). The street is well-known for care repairs and small boutique shops. I also noticed there was a large TV screen next to HeSheEat, with some Korean writings carved in the wall. Ahhh...it's called Spicy Andong which is famous in Korea. When I saw the mega size billboard menu, I hesitated for a while. Afterward, I entered the shop and asked if I could have upstair-seat. The waitress gave me a kind smile but I decided to sit at lower-floor. I then had a browse at the textbook-like menu. From puddings to cakes, from parfaits to waffles, the restaurant owner had dedicated a lot in decorating the menu. When I browsed the first page, I was totally shocked by the colour and word design so I could hardly make up my mind. Because of this, I asked if there's any famous or highly recommended one. The young, cheerful girl suggested the lemon crepe for me and I took her advice.Mmmm...I was in a sweet fantasy. Not only was the lemon crepe so tasty, the bits of decorations also had a very high quality. I was so high at the moment and was pondering if I should order other desserts or not. But I felt too loaded so I just gave up and checked the bill fifteen minutes later.Overall, I would recommend tiramisu, green tea panna cotta and lemon crepe to you guys although the crepe was a bit pricey ($55).…Read More

Located near Masterpiece in TST, this cake shop depicted itself as a boutique shop, showing different kinds of jewelery-like cakes and biscuits. In fact, I have been to this bo-shop many times. Every time when I passed by this shop, it reminded me of cake shops in Paris and Japan. Fascinated by those great masterpieces, I was convinced that a piece of cake was worth trying because of its luxurious decorations. So I ordered a piece of Charcoal at the counter. In addition, there also featured several kinds of cakes. The most notable thing was that this cake shop's service was also awesome. Unlike other cake shops, shop assistants here kindly gave us some water and offered some napkins for us, treating us as their honorable guests. Besides, the thing that I appreciated the most was that it had two tables which allowed customers to sit down and enjoyed their time.In conclusion, this must be a lovable boutique cake shop. Not only because of its hospitality, its food and environment were also better than others. Therefore I don't agree with those reviews with bad comments.…Read More

first meal in post-CNY
Yaegiku Japanese Cuisine
2011-02-07
This was the first meal of my CNY. Entering the arcade, we noticed there were still many tourists, particularly Mainlanders. However, the ambiance wasn't as crowded as expected. Therefore, I thought it might be nice to dine in iSquare. Thinking whether we should had casual dining or the better quality ones, we looked at the directory, trying to make up our mind a.s.a.p. Alright, we took the escalator to 28F at first, as I believed it would be a nice restaurant. However, there seemed to be a better choice, thus we had a look at the 29F one. Walking out from the lift, our ears were nearly damaged owing to the loud dragon dance. We looked at the menus of Yaegiku and had our final decision. Inside the Japanese restaurant, there was a 180 degree panoramic view, featuring the entre Victoria Harbour. Surprisingly, on my left side, there was also a room for teppanyaki, which I didn't notice at first. Unlike other restaurants of Sky Garden, the atmosphere here was so comfortable and pleasant, while the service was neither good nor bad. Having a look at the set lunch menu, I still found it hard to make a decision 'cause I really had a desire to try all of them. But I chose tempura, sashimi rice with udon set ($140) and my mate decided to have a fried udon with rice which was $20 cheaper than mine. In my set, it came with a green salad, udon, green tea and desert (cheesecake). As for my mate, it looked generally the same as mine, except that hers had a miso soup. Overall, I would definitely suggest food lovers to have a try at this restaurant. Beautiful view, nice service, large food portion and good sanitation were the reasons why I graded it at a high score. I wished that I can come at Sky Garden and try other delicacies before my leave weeks later.…Read More

an Aussie experience
Wooloomooloo Steakhouse
2011-02-02
My wish came true. Entering the shopping mall Elements, we observed many people still having lunch in the restaurant from ground floor. However, as I really had a strong desire to try Australian cuisine, I was brought to Wooloomooloo Steakhouse. When we approached the restaurant, the waitress kindly offered us a table, asking if we'd like anything to drink. Then, we looked at the lunch menu. Mmmmm...I was pondering if the price was a little bit expensive or not. Initially, I wanted to have a grilled turkey sandwich. Unfortunately, the first and the third one (grilled lamb) were sold out. The remainings were only pasta and beef tenderloin, knowing that I wasn't feeling well, I decided to order a pasta. The same as my mom.First, there came a soup (cream soup with nth), served with bread and olive oil. The soup was great, I mean comparing with other Western restaurant, it should probably be much better. However, the bread was too dry & plain. Afterward, my clam pasta, which looked quite nice, was also given by the waitress. The pasta was very tasty, clams were not too fresh though. I was wondering if the pasta had been done for a long time or just finished immediately. Lastly, the hot lemon water should be fared the best.Generally speaking, my 'Aussie experience' was somehow disappointing as the pasta was served a bit cold and the waitress/waiter were not too helpful and kind. If a chance was given, I would choose other Aussie cuisine like Wagyu or the same Wooloomooloo in Central. I hope those would be much more better than this one.…Read More

Simplylife Bakery Cafe
2011-01-28
Longing for my favourite British food, I persuaded my mom to have it with me. As I suddenly recalled there's brunch in simplylife, a high-class maxim concept dining, my mom took me to there. Though we saw a long queue, we didn't leave but just spent sometime waiting outside the restaurant. Actually I really loved this restaurant because it always reminded me of maxims, the most trusted restaurant/dining retail group in Hong Kong. So I decided to have a try again. Having a seat, my mom and I each ordered a lunch set. There's plenty of choices so I had to better think twice before ordering it. I made up my mind to have an English breakfast and soup of the day (pumpkin soup). A drink (tea) was also included. Anyhow I thought that the drink used a concept called crossover- Chinese and Western culture. Okay, my order came. First, the soup was very tasty, making me mad of the strong taste of pumpkin, though the bread was not that good. I mean crumby but too hard and nothing special. Therefore, I dipped it into the soup. Then, my drink- tea. I did not really expect too much anyway, but it smelt good and oolong mixed with peach was not doubt a good combination. After that, how' bout my English breakfast? Overall speaking, I believed that if more raisin bread was provided, it would be better. The sausage, bacon and egg were really heavy, so it's better to have more carbs. As a whole, I would really like to try other brunches next time to fulfill my curiosity. Haha!…Read More
