Decent Korean BBQ 😊
Seorae (Tang Lung Street)
2021-05-29
I was very excited to catch up with a friend and we wanted somewhere we could talk and eat slowly so Korean BBQ was the best option there is. We decided to try out this place and the interior was cosy and spacious, it screamed Korean BBQ the second you step in with all the grills displayed. 🥩We made a booking and when we were led to our table the side dishes were already set out for us. There was a generous variety of side dishes, the usual kimchi, pickled vegetables and lettuce are all there. The kimchi was really spicy so if you like the kick this would be amazing. They also put cheese and kimchi on the side of the grill, after that they pour egg mix on there so when everything starts cooking you also get steamed egg, which can be refilled! 🥚Seorae Special Pork Skirt Meat $158My favourite cut the entire meal. There was plenty in terms of portion and it roasted very well on the grill. The meat was tender and seasoned just right. The fat distribution was also equal and not too greasy or fatty. Dipped in a bit of salt or the spicy sauce and you get a super delicious bit of meat.🍖Jeju Pork Belly $180We knew we had to try the pork belly. It looked amazing and the flavour was rich with clear layers of the pork belly. It wasn't as tender as I expected but it wasn't tough either. Not bad and the portion is great. 👍🏻Chicken Rib with Seorae Soy Sauce $110The chicken meat cooked super well on the grill, it was extremely tender and soft. It's been marinated in the Seorae soy sauce so it's very rich but also on the salty side, I didn't expect it and even dipped a bit of salt which was a bad idea. Much better when eaten with the lettuce wrapped around it though. The texture makes up for it! 🍗Spicy Squid $150Giant squid in portion. You can definitely taste the spice, it's very fresh and the meat remains tender and easy to chew even after grilling. I always feel like grilled squid gets tough really easily but surprisingly this didn't. They offer you scissors so having cut up the cooked squid into pieces it chewed easy and the flavour was sweet and fresh as well. I especially loved the tentacles, chewy but with a little bit of crunch as well. 🦑Set of Mushrooms $100My other favourite dish. Don't underestimate the mushrooms on the grill, we knew after all that meat we'll need some veggies to balance it out and the mushroom totally hit the spot. There were a variety of mushrooms and they were juicy and thick, very fresh mushrooms and have a really nice grilled taste that gets better when eaten with meat or dipped in some sauce. 🍄Buckwheat Noodles with Cold Broth $85I was so excited to try this because I've never had buckwheat noodles in cold broth before. It was surprisingly refreshing but not tasteless either, it almost served as a great palette cleanser after eating so much meat. The coldness of the rich broth worked great to cool us down and the noodles were chewy and delicious, especially when added with a little bit of mustard sauce. I was not disappointed! 🍜Seafood and Green Onion Pancake $90Not bad for a seafood green onion pancake with a great portion. Honestly, there was more pancake than seafood but the general taste is not too salty and has a nice flavour. It has a lot of green onions in there so it's quite sweet as well with the green onion. The pancake is soft in the middle and crunchy on the outer parts but it a bit on the greasy side so I guess it's better for sharing with large groups. 🍳Bibimbap with Cheese in Stone Pot $85Came in bubbling hot with plenty of melted cheese on top, a great choice for those who don't want meat in their bibimbap. It has a nice balance of sweet and sour in the tomato rice and the cheese elevates it nicely. The cheese-pull test was 100% successful. There's even a really crispy layer of burnt rice at the bottom. 🧀Generally a lovely Korean BBQ place. The service was good, when the gas ran out at our table they changed it for us immediately and respond really quickly whenever we needed anything. The food was not mind-blowing but definitely decent and the variety was great. Definitely would recommend it for those who want to just enjoy some time chilling with friends while doing some self grilling Korean BBQ. 😋…Read More

Cenacolo Steak & Pasta
2020-12-27
Decided to try this eatery for a little belated Christmas celebration lunch with a few friends. I was quite excited to visit this place because of how chic and well decorated it looked from the entrance. They also offered some pretty promising looking set lunch menus and the staff was friendly. 🙆🏻‍♀️For starters I chose a cauliflower soup. It was alright, could have had more flavour but the texture was just right, not too thick nor too runny and made me feel very warm drinking it in the cool weather. I tried the sirloin steak with grilled vegetables as the main course and it did not disappoint! I had it cooked medium and it was done perfectly and the portion was appropriate. The meat was slightly charred on the outside and tender, soft and juicy on the inside. It was not dry and every bite was easy. I would say it could have done with a bit more flavour though, the richness was still lacking a little bit in my opinion. The steak was also served with a black pepper sauce and mustard. I wasn’t too fond with the black pepper because I feel like gravy or perhaps just mustard or some salt would have been a better choice, but if you are a black pepper sauce fan this would be perfect. The veggies were great, very sweet and well made without being too greasy. 🥩Overall a pretty satisfying and nice dining experience! …Read More

Best Cheesy Don Ever! 🧀
Nunu燒
2020-12-24
As a cheese fanatic, I am almost always searching for cheesy dishes whichever restaurant I visit. A friend recommended Nunu to me before so a while back I finally got around to trying it. I was told the portions are quite large even though there are options for you to choose more or less rice according to your preference, so I only got the cheesy pork rice bowl. It might just be one of the cheesiest rice bowls I have ever had. How many times have I said cheese so far? But there was so much melted cheese covering the entire bowl, the flavour was so rich and because it was flamed over there was a bit of smokiness to the dish that makes it more fragrant. There was also plenty of sliced pork pieces that were very tender and soft and went well with the cheesiness without being too greasy and heavy. I got less rice but the portion was still enough to fill my stomach up. It definitely makes a satisfying and filling meal.I did not get a picture for it but I also got some salmon sushi and while it's not outstanding or anything mindblowing I'd say it was still high quality sashimi. Definitely a possible choice if you're looking for a little more food or craving sushi to try along with the rice. 🍣This place is the perfect spot for cheese fans like me. They offer multiple different variations of cheesy dons with both beef and rice. They also have tomato and curry sauce to choose from as well so I would definitely return to try the other flavours. …Read More

Nice Little Place For Cake 🍰
Cafe Life (崇光百貨)
2020-12-24
Decided to try out this relatively new cake shop for a family member's birthday! 🎂The brownie/cake was very rich in cocoa flavour. Personally, I think it could have been a bit sweeter but since the cocoa is so prominent and strong it would be perfect for those who prefer their chocolate with a more bitter flavour. The portion was just right for the birthday celebration. We had around 8 people and it was enough since the brownie was so rich and dense in texture that the cocoa can get a bit heavy. It's perfect for those who want a bit of dessert after a meal but don't want to overkill.Between the two cakes, I liked the strawberry shortcake better because it was sweeter which is more for my liking. The whipped cream is smooth and rich while the sponge cake is nicely layered with strawberry chunks, it is also very softly textured which makes a very satisfying bite. It has a sweeter tone but did not overpower the strawberries at all. This cake is perfect for those who love a sweet but light dessert that allows you to taste all the elements of a slice. We only got a slice to try but will definitely return for more. 🍓…Read More

Sushiro Doesn't Disappoint!
SUSHIRO (The Whampoa)
2020-12-23
Since there is almost always a long queue for this sushi place, my friend and I made sure to line up pretty early on. We had to wait for 30 minutes for our seats but it was definitely worth it. The sushi was great, everything was perfectly fresh and tasted really nice. It does take a bit longer if you order from the tablet instead of taking it from the belt but both work just fine. The food quality is definitely satisfactory. There was also great variety in the types of nigiri they offer. The tuna toro sushi we tried was perfectly fatty and melted in our mouths. Some of the nigiri, especially the ones that were slightly flamed even had their own spin with melted cheese or special spices added to them, those really pack a pleasant surprise. We also tried the fried chicken cartilage and it was perfectly crunchy and savoury. The salt was not overpowering at all and was just a really lovely little flavourful snack. We got the Catalana for dessert and it is basically a creme brulee in a stick. It was crunchy on top while the custard mix at the bottom was smooth and sweet. Paired with hot green tea, it makes an extremely hearty dessert that finishes the meal perfectly. Definitely recommend this place as a go-to sushi spot! 🍣…Read More

Amazing Roast Chicken!
La Rotisserie (禧利街)
2020-12-09
I have always struggled to find a good location in Hong Kong for roast chicken (to be fair I have not had a lot!) but I was so glad I found this rotisserie. I tried the chicken pot and on a different occasion returned for a chicken set meal and both were delicious. The interior isn't exactly the most spacious, so takeaway is probably the best option. The staff is very friendly and helpful though, which is always a plus! The chicken pot had a really great portion especially if you have a good appetite. They give you almost half a chicken! The sauce was creamy and rich while the chicken is tender and juicy. The skin is always the best part but it wasn't too greasy either. There was slightly too much rice for my liking but it would perfect if you're on a particularly hungry day. There were also steamed vegetables mixed in but they did not take away the flavour. The chicken set I got came with either thigh or breast meat and three hot side dishes, which is quite a steal for the price. You can also choose salad but I was hoping to try a variety to the other dishes they offer. The dark meat was very soft, it could be juicier but it was definitely tender and not tough to chew at all. I got mashed potatoes, a vegetable mix in tomato sauce as well as a bean/lentil mix. They were very generous with portions and the meal was very filling. Makes a satisfying meal, it could use more gravy but you can definitely tell them and the staff would be happy to add more gravy for you. 🍗Will definitely visit again! 😋…Read More

Delicious Little Japanese Takeaway Place
2nd Kitchen
2020-12-08
Wanted to find some quality places for getting lunch to enjoy back at the office and stumbled upon this little Japanese takeaway point. It's a small business and they make the food fresh! I went to them twice so I could try more things before writing. Surprisingly great food! The Namba chicken was amazing, the chicken was so tender and perfectly fried complemented by the egg salad sauce. The portion was great too, they even give you a slice of lemon to add a bit of tanginess to the dish and it really works. Satisfying meal. There was a lot of rice but they have this type of salt condiment sprinkled on it (I suspect it's plum salt) and I just could not get enough! Definitely makes you want to eat more. The omurice also exceeded expectations! I always found that it's difficult to find a place that actually makes very fluffy egg omelette rice but they did it! The egg was not overcooked at all, it was super soft and tender. It wrapped around the rice perfectly, and the flavour was rich. The rice itself was also well seasoned and overall very satisfying food. They give you miso soup with your food, the soup is could have more flavour, but still tasty and perfect for cold days! …Read More

Great Cafe with Aesthetically Pleasing Ambience
Dear Neighbor
2020-12-01
This place is definitely a go-to cafe if you're looking for some light dessert, coffee and most importantly a place to chill and do some work. The staff is incredibly friendly. They have two stories and the upper floor has both a huge table for work and also a little tatami-style area where you can sit on cushions. It gives off a slight rustic vibe and radiates calmness and comfort. ✨They serve different desserts each day (make sure you go a bit earlier if you want to try their cakes though, I went at around 5 and most of the food was gone by then T T). I got the last piece of a Hojicha flavoured cake. It's not super rich and is very light in texture, but the tea flavour seeps out subtly and the more you eat it the more fragrant it becomes. The base of the cake is very buttery and rich so it balances out very well. Two little pieces of tangerine on the side so it looks super cute. 🍊The coffee I got was a "dirty" as recommended by the staff. It was quite rich in milk flavour but does not overwhelm the coffee. It's very pretty in appearance as well as the milk at the bottom and the coffee on top do not mix immediately until you combine them. Some good coffee to go with the cakes. ☕️Dogs are welcomed at the cafe and it's so much fun seeing animals lounging and playing inside. The entire cafe gives off a homey feeling and is perfect for when you want to enjoy a light dessert with some coffee, get some work done or simply to take a break. Definitely will return! 💕…Read More

Definitely Satisfies Your Korean Food Cravings
Outdark (飛達商業中心)
2020-11-28
This place actually has some bomb Korean food!! I was really craving Korean and I was so excited to try out this place with a few friends. The interior was great, loved the subtle, dim but warm lighting with all the fairy lights dangling around ✨-🥘 creamy seafood pot ($328)⠀Creamiest soup I’ve ever had with more than enough toppings. So cheesy and stretchy with like every Korean snack food you can think of all soaked in the sauce. They had whole squid calamari in there and the crunch dripped in the sauce is super satisfying. Great with rice too even though I got so stuffed I couldn’t have a lot 🤤🍗 fried chicken (soy sauce + garlic honey sauce) ( $192)⠀I love fried chicken anyway and was totally craving it so getting to try this satisfied everything. Couldn’t really taste the differences in sauces and was slightly more on the sweet side but overall satisfying meat with plenty of fries too which is always a bonus. The chicken was juicy and they give you huge pieces actually so you can take many big bites.🦑 seafood pancake ($118)⠀This was my favourite dish!! There was so much seafood in there and the portion was also big enough. Not too salty and the pancake was done just right with veggies so you can lie to yourself that it’s healthy 🍤 Fried Shrimp gimbap ($88)Good ol’ gimbap, shrimp wasn’t very crunchy but the entire thing tasted normal. The portion was great though.👌🍹Outdark Rota ($78)It’s massive and they did the whole bottle flip thing so it looks very impressive. Mine was on the sweeter side cause it was peach flavoured but it’s perfect for when you’re with friends and the greasy food is getting to you. If you don't want sugar on rich flavour maybe opt for the more citrusy ones!…Read More

Great Taiwanese Eatery 💛
Glos Cafe by Fooody
2020-11-27
Decide to try this cafe with a friend before a rehearsal at Fo Tan. It's a long way from where we usually dwell so we were really excited about the place. The entrance was very cute and the interior was spacious and illuminated, which was very cosy and breezy. We were also given quite a large table for two people 🤩They specialize in Taiwanese cuisine and we got three things in total: Braised pork rice, cold noodles with chicken in sweet and sour sauce and a boba crepe cake for dessert. The rice tasted normal, the meat was tender but the sauce was slightly too sweet for my taste. Although my friend thought it was just right so I guess if you prefer saltier sauces like me you might want to skip this one. The toppings like the eggs and the veggies were delicious, a solid normal braised pork rice! The cold noodle was very impressive. There were minced bell peppers sprinkled in with tender chicken pieces. The noodles were coated with a sweet and sour sauce that had a slight citrus flavour. It was very refreshing and felt like a cooling taste especially after eating the comparatively richer flavoured braised pork rice. It would be truly the perfect dish for the summer! The noodles had a nice texture without being too soft nor too hard, they mix in very well and I wish the portion was larger because we could not stop going at it 🤤The boba cake took a little longer than usual, and the portion was a little smaller than we imagined but we were two girls who were full from the other two dishes and just wanted a little bit of sweetness to end the meal, so it was just right. The crepe cake was very soft and delicate, the milk tea cream was generously slathered on but was not overwhelming or soaking the crepes. The sweetness of the tea flavour and cream melts in the mouth and spreads an aroma on your tongue so you can taste each layer. The boba balls were a little bit too chewy but it adds texture to the dessert. Also very outstanding. 🧋An impressive eatery perfect for friends to meet up and chat while enjoying a hearty meal. 💛…Read More

Cute Little Burger Shop 💛
Cafe Whale
2020-11-27
Heard quite a lot about this burger place and decided to try it as take away. We got a classic beef burger, a soft shell crab burger and two sliders. **The photo may not fully do the regular burgers justice because I did re-toasted it a little to make it warmer. The image is just for reference on the size of the items** 🥰The buns were nicely toasted and soft, with the little branded stamps on the bread they looked adorable. The burgers themselves were alright, I felt they could have done with a little more sauce as they were slightly dry. I don't think it was because of the re-toasting because I only left them in there for around 30 seconds. This is not to say it didn't taste good though! The crab was still crunchy and the melty cheese was plentiful and rich in flavour. The lettuce and other ingredients inside were fresh and juicy which complemented the crab well. The beef burger was normal, nothing too mind-blowing but still a pleasant meal. The sliders (which were not re-toasted) were not juicy enough for my taste but definitely still on the delicious side. The sizes are perfect if you're craving a burger but not hungry enough to devour one that is full-sized, you can finish one in two bites and it's just very satisfying to do a big bite on a mini burger.Definitely, a place I would return to! 🍔…Read More

High Quality Steak House 💛
Top Blade Steak Lab (希慎道)
2020-11-27
Haven't had a good piece of steak in a long time so you can imagine my excitement when I finally got to try this place with family. I got a steak while the others got pork. The portion was not super impressive but on hindsight, it was just enough. The meat was very tender as I asked for medium-rare. The juices were locked inside the meat and it was not chewy at all. The rich flavour of meat and the slight char on the outside brings a lightly smoked taste that spreads on your tongue. They give you some sprinkles of salt to dip the meat in which elevates the sweetness of the beef. They also give you half of an entire piece of roasted garlic and it tastes amazing when you combine the meat and the sweet garlic cloves. 🥩The pork was surprisingly tender. As someone who usually dislikes eating pork, the texture of the meat was very soft and melts easily in your mouth. There was a perfectly right amount of fat and the flavour was a little more subtle than the beef. The portion was much larger than the beefsteak though. They also serve you unlimited fries, which is always a bonus. Great experience dining here! 💕…Read More

Simple Shop With Great Food 💛
Mad Three
2020-11-27
This place opened a while back in my neighbourhood and I never got around to reviewing it but here it is!!The design of the shop is very chic and stylish. However, due to the pandemic, most people were ordering take out and I did the same thing. The quality of the food remained high though! ✨The Seared salmon salad I got was delicious. They give you four pieces of salmon and they were perfectly cooked with crispy golden skin and soft tender meat underneath. They also salt it just right, without going too over with the seasonings you can taste the sweetness of the salmon elevated by the salt. The salad was fresh, I do think it would have been better with a little bit more sauce but I guess the rich fish oil that mixes in already brings enough flavour. You can't really go wrong with a good minced beef and cheese Taiwanese egg roll. The skin was chewy and not too thick with plenty of ingredients stuffed inside. Every bite was satisfying and there was enough cheese to do multiple cheese-pulls. They put a sweet glaze over which is a nice touch and fits the taste. The flavour was normal, nothing too special but I guess that's exactly what you expect from a good Taiwanese egg roll. They offer a free sweet melon drink for each order if you get takeaway during their pandemic discount. Overall a great cafe especially if you're looking for a light Taiwanese meal. Haven't got around to trying the coffee but would love to when the opportunity comes! ☕️…Read More

Quaint Burger Place
Burger Circus
2020-11-27
Was craving a good ol' burger and shake and decided to check this place out because of how pretty the interior looked. The burgers were amazing, we got a chicken burger and a classic beef burger. The chicken was very crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. It was quite spicy but not overwhelming, had the right amount of kick from the jalapenos. The beef burger was a little bit too greasy for my taste but the meat was nicely cooked and also quite juicy. Buns were soft and toasted and other ingredients were pretty fresh. The fries were very crunchy, had a great portion and the sourcream gave it the perfect tangy flavour. The jalapeno poppers were mind-blowingly delicious though, stuffed with smooth cream cheese and you definitely get a great bite out of every single one of them. They do get a little too creamy after a while, so they're definitely better to be shared by more people since the portion is also quite large. The caramel milkshake was thick and creamy without being too sweet although there was definitely more cream and foam than an actual shake. Solid burger and shake place!…Read More

Tucked away at Water Street, this small business shop is a comforting hut with a variety of good food. Visited this place with a friend recently and was pleasantly surprised with the food. The variation of dishes is wide and you can get anything from lamb chops to Japanese udon. I tried the rice with beef bites topped with an onsen egg. The sauce was just an ordinary sweet sauce, but it was served separately for you to adjust the richness to your own liking, which was a nice touch. The meat was tender and flavourful while the egg was cooked nicely. You can tell the staff about your preference for the amount of rice you want which is another bonus since I am not a fan of too much rice! I also had a few bites of the lamb chops which were also tender and juicy. The fries were crunchy but nothing too special. They do provide drinks for free if you show your student card which was very nice of them. Generally a pleasant dining experience! 💛…Read More
