New Nepalese option in Wan Chai
Daju-Bhai Restaurant & Bar
2014-02-12
A small, clean and tidy restaurant and bar selling Nepalese and Indian food. The lunch set is very good value at $63. I had the fish curry, butter nan and a cup of warm chai. The fish was boneless and served in a tasty curry sauce. The butter nan was perfect - light, fluffy and warm. On arrival I was warmly welcomed and give tasty starter of small pancakes made of green beans served with mint sauce. Considering how busy other restaurants are in the neighbourhood at lunchtime it is, for now, great to find a really interesting new restaurant that serves exciting and affordable curry.…Read More

Excellent food, location and service
Hoi King Seafood Restaurant
2011-02-10
I had one of the warmest welcomes I've ever had at this restaurant. The owners, amazingly, recognized my family from a day out in Stanley last summer and beckoned us to squeeze into some spare space on a reserved table. We didn't order from the main menu but instead chose from the dim sum baskets. All food was served immediately and despite a temporary price hike for CNY the bill for 4 people (+ baby) was only HKD155. The food was tasty but what stood out for us was the fact that we could eat outside and also that the staff were so friendly and helpful. During a busy holiday lunchtime they were patient with us feeding our baby and couldn't have been more welcoming. …Read More

My wife, parents-in-law (and one-month old baby!) were very impressed by the four-person lunch special. For HKD 179 we had soup, four main dishes, rice, coffees/teas and a small red-bean dessert. For mains we selected a cashew and pork dish, sweet and sour fish, squid and a Thai green curry with beef. All were served promptly and were of a a very high standard considering the price - both in terms of taste and presentation. Service was friendly and tolerant of a small baby and my family's lack of English or Cantonese. I plan to visit again soon and will add some photos. …Read More

Gourmet burgers
The Big Bite
2010-02-09
The burgers here have not failed to impress on two visits this year. The standard 'Big Bite' can be cooked to order and is incomparably better than anything served up at fast food restaurants. Beer Lao is served cool and is a nice change from dull Tigers or Carlsburgs. Prices are reasonable and food has been prepared promptly on my two visits. On the down side, staff don't smile or offer much in the way of making you feel welcome. I can understand this at busy times, but when the restaurant is only half full it doesn't take much to smile and say hello when people come in. …Read More

A different kind of Lanzhou La Mian
Beef Noodles
2010-02-09
Anyone who has spent time in Shanghai, Chengdu, or indeed any major Chinese city, will be familiar with the Lanzhou La Mian (Lanzhou pulled noodles) restaurants offering a selection of pulled and fried noodles. Often these stores are open 24 hours. 'Noodles' have taken this food (hearty beef noodles being one of their signature dishes) and adapted it for the Hong Kong market. This has been done by making the restaurant clean and tidy while offering well-presented noodles served with a rich Tibetan style beef stock, which is tastier than the watery broth normally used to make Lanzhou style noodles. Particularly recommended on colder days! Lunch sets include duck salads and canned drinks. One fluent English speaking staff member has made me exceptionally welcome on two visits, taking time to talk about different dishes. A large photo on the wall shows a traditional Lanzhou la mian restaurant - the inspiration for the menu at 'Noodles'. …Read More

Authentic Sichuan cuisine
Little Chilli
2010-01-14
小辣椒 serves authentic Sichuan cuisine at a reasonable price. The sour spicy noodles (suan la fen) are superb, though not for those unused to numbing Sichuan peppercorns. Standard Sichuan dishes are all recommended, the ma po do fu (pockmarked grandmother's beancurd) and hui guo rou (twice cooked pork) in particular. Some vegetable dishes have the trademark Hong Kong addition of shrimp, but 9 times out of 10 what's served here is authentic. Open 11am to 5am, delivery available. Drinks are exceptionally cheap (Blue ice beers 12 HKD for 3, Yanjing 15 HKD for 3). Service is passable at best - at quiet times it's quite hard to get noticed. …Read More
