Mediocre and expensive
Adrenaline
2017-09-11
Went to Adrenaline on Wednesday during the races. The restaurant does not have 4 person tables inside so we had to dine outside in the sweltering heat. This would be ok if the food and drinks would be good and plentiful, but this was not the case. The selection for the buffet was nothing to write back home about: The options for salad and starters were decent, but warm dishes were disappointing. Mostly just deep fried food and snacks. They did not provide any water to the table and a bottle of beer is 65$ with no draught beers available.Would not go again.+ Nice atmosphere+ Races are always great- Expensive drinks- Poor selection in the buffet- Food was not good- No water for diners- No 4 person tables inside- No fans outside…Read More

PARADISE DYNASTY (Grand Plaza)
2017-02-03
Went to dine at Paradise dynasty. Family had arrived about half an hour earlier and we had a total of 7 dishes. Food was generally ok  and of decent value, but less than ten minutes after we got our last dish, the staff came to ask us to pay our bill and leave. Note: They told us when entering that since they are busy, we have 90 minutes to dine, but only 70 had passed since my family entered the restaurant. Our order was made at 19:34 and they brought the first dishes at ard 19:45 and we were asked to leave at 20:16 so they gave us only 31 minutes to eat. Ruined the dinner and left a bad impression of the place. Since the food was not anything special, I will not be back.…Read More

Good, but overrated coffee
Knockbox Coffee Company
2016-05-04
I myself am a bit of a coffee geek and I love a good cup of coffee. As I was in the area, I decided to try out Knockbox coffee company as the reviews were praising the coffee and the food there.Specialty coffee $60My wife ordered one of the specialty coffees and one from Brazil. This was for sure a nice cup of coffee, but both of us as heavy coffee drinkers had to agree that this was not worth the money. Sure if the place was in e.g. Central or some other expensive neigbourhood, the price would be acceptable, but in Mong Kok on a side street. Not really.+ Good taste-  Poor valueAll day breakfast $10XThe second letdown of the day was their all day breakfast. There were a few problems with this dish: The mushrooms were cold, bland and rubbery and the sausage was perhaps one of the worst I've enjoyed for breakfast. In addition they had smeared the hash brown with ketchup. There is a reason why ketchup is served separate from the food as some people do not like ketchup on their breakfast. In terms of value, this was a bit better than the coffee, but still not really worth the money.+ Nothing to mention-  Poor value-  Poor tasteCitrus delightDefinitely the best dish of the day. The waffle was light and airy and the coffee combined with the ice cream was a nice compliment to the slightly lemony waffles. I would have used some other honey though as this was not so good.+ Light and airy+ Tasted yummy-  Honey had an odd aftertasteOverall poor value for money in this part of town.P.S. Why I rated their hygiene at 2/5 was as I was seated on the counter, I could see that their kitchen had some things that were just plain dirty (Such as their freezer) This was somewhat off putting.…Read More

Sushi Sumi
2016-05-04
Decided to try out one of the only places in Happy Valley for Sushi. Since it was my birthday I was treated the dinner, but it was a bit of a let down. The sushi was quite nice and fresh and service was fine and the interior of the place is great and all, but the biggest gripe I have with the place is the price. The 100-200$ class in Openrice is a class or two too low as we ended up paying more than 1K$ for a dinner of two. In that price class, there are better choices available.…Read More

Boomshack
2016-01-10
I went to Boomshack lured in by the reviews on Openrice. The place was quite full even on a Wednesday evening so I'm guessing they are rather busy on weekends. The place pays homage to the food truck culture from the states with both the interior and their menu, which on paper sounds awesome. We ordered some oyster tostadas, beetroot fries and a chicken waffle with two beers on the side.Beer (75$):+ Some local draught available- Tiny cups (0.3l)?- Price same per volume as Azure or Tasmania lounge. 75$ for a small cup of draught. No HHOyster tostadas (48$?):+ Nice crisp texture+ Good chutney & slaw- Tiny portionBeetroot "fries" (58$?):Note, I wrote "fries" here as when we got the dish, it was not really fries but 1" x 1" size cubes of beetroot that were crispy on the outside, but tasted just like cooked beetroot from the middle. I asked the waiter about it and he said that due to the texture on beetroot, they have to make it into cubes, but why call them fries then?+ Something a bit different+ Nice Kewpie mayo- Not friesChicken waffle (88$): - Waffle felt soggy and somehow did not work with the dish- Chicken skin / fried dough was sliding (not falling) offOverall due to the flaws above and the fact that the bill came to nearly 400$ made this one the worst meal of 2016 so far and I expect it to stay that way for a while. This type of food should be tasty, filling and cheap, but I felt hungry and disappointed after eating.…Read More

Match Too Cafe
2014-06-23
I generally have used Openrice just to read reviews, never to write any. However, my late lunch / tea set spurred me to open an account and write a review just to warn others and express my disappointment with MatchToo Cafe.I went to have a late lunch / tea and noticed they serve Eggs Benedict, which is one of my favourite breakfast dishes. Extremely hungry, I waited for a short while only the be served a cold dish? I was just so dumbfounded that the restaurant would serve eggs benedict cold with salad. This was a faux pas like no other. Also there were big chunks of onion under the egg. In addition, the two muffins with cold eggs on top of them were served with salad thus soaking the muffins with vinaigre based salad dressing. This was definitely the most disgusting meal I have had in 2014.Although usually I keep my displease to myself, this time I actually had to ask the manager what they were thinking and he told me he had already asked the chefs to change the dish with no avail.I have visited Matchtoo cafe before and earlier had no beef (no pun intended) with them, but this was a disappointment that earned them the "not in a thousand years" -badge.- No understanding of Western food- Worst meal of 2014+ Not too expensive…Read More
