Classified (交易廣場)

I really like the food at Classified. The quality of the food has been consistently good every time I've eaten there for the past year and a half.Eggs royale: eggs are always perfectly poached and laid on top of fresh smoked salmon and an English muffin topped with tons of Hollandaise sauce, which is perfect to act as a dip for their chili fries Chili fries: great flavor, not too spicy, crispy and goes well with the chorizo mayo, which is basically chopped bits of chorizo sausage mixed with mayoSpaghetti with meatballs: my favorite dish by far. Meatballs are well seasoned. Spaghetti is cooked al dente. The chili tomato sauce gives the dish a spicy kick, which I love. I usually top it off with a lot of parmesan cheese Wild mushroom risotto with truffle and poached egg: super creamy and heavy - I don't usually get this. Sometimes it's a bit too salty. Not their best dish.Classified burger with chili fries: If you're starving and you want to get more value for your food, order this dish. The hamburger is huge and they use real beef for the patty. Everything tastes fresh.Great place to have lunch during the weekdays as it's close to the office and we can usually get a table.Overall, this place has good service, a casual and laid-back setting, and delicious food.…Read More

This place was initially empty when we arrived at around 8:15pm on a Friday night but eventually filled up as the night wore on.Service: good - our waitress was attentive and helpful.Food: they didn't have two of the dishes that we had initially wanted to order (on a Friday night, when the restaurant was practically empty? really? a bit unbelievable). We finally settled for the steak sandwich and macaroni gratin with bacon. The steak sandwich contained gruyere cheese, giving it a saltier and unusually strong taste (cheese lovers, like me, would like this combination), and came with shoestring fries. The steak was tender and the bread was not stale. The macaroni gratin with bacon didn't have enough cheese and had too much cream instead. It was too heavy and there was not enough flavor/not well seasoned. The bacon wasn't crispy at all. In short, it tasted and the texture of the dish was quite bland. Both the sandwich and the macaroni gratin were quite ordinary.Drinks: The white wine was too dry for my liking.Setting: nice decor and atmosphere. Conclusion: too ordinary and bland, I won't come back again until they improve their food.…Read More

Consistently good quality food

There was a time when I came here for lunch almost once a week but I took a three month hiatus and was pleasantly surprised to find that the quality of the food at LEX remained the same upon my recent return. This time I ordered the steak tartare and veggie burger with parmesan fries. The steak tartare was delicious as usual and came with truffle mayo and soft boiled quail's egg, all of which went down well slathered on top of a piece of grilled foccacia. The veggie burger consisted of fried portabello and (again) truffle mayo, which was amazingly light. I interrupted bites of my burger with parmesan fries dipped in truffle mayo and ketchup.I suppose LEX's killer weapon is their truffle mayo. I'll be back again soon.…Read More

I originally didn't want to come here because I knew they serve yakitori at a high price. I travel frequently to Japan, which means I've been spoiled rotten by the amount of authentic and delicious Japanese food I've been fortunate enough to have over the years at reasonable and excellent prices. But then I was dragged here by my sidekick, who raved about how she'd heard raving reviews of this restaurant tucked away on Bridges Street and so I found myself in an entirely new dining experience on a Saturday night.True to what I've previously heard, the restaurant does not take reservations and all members of our party had to be present before we could be seated. The staff are all friendly and attentive, and our waiter took some time to explain the menu to us. I started with a Chu Hai, which was a mixture of shochu and carbonated water and had a citrus flavor. The drink was a little too bland for my liking. We decided to order Sweet Corn Tempura, Korean Fried Cauliflower, Chicken Wings, Chicken Thighs, Chicken Oyster, meatballs, rice cakes and peanut butter ice cream. The food was incredibly creative, not to mention delicious. The sweet corn tempura wasn't too oily and was well-seasoned. The KFC reminded me of a lighter version of sweet and sour pork. All of the chicken skewers were tender and juicy. My favorite by far were the meatballs - full of flavor and texture of meat (and some sort of root vegetable, I think) that crumbles in your mouth after each bite. The meatballs came with a soya sauce and egg mixture dip which added some zest to them. The chewy rice cakes were somewhat ordinary but, like every other dish that we had before it, were well-seasoned. The peanut butter ice cream (homemade, I presume) was a fun idea but it was a little too salty and not sweet, and thus did not really taste like ice cream to me.As the night wore on the restaurant became busier (but not chaotic) and became filled with a modern and edgy vibe. I'll probably come here again after my wallet recovers from this meal.…Read More

Hidden gem
Trattoria Doppio Zero
2012-03-04
Overall it was a fun, unique and comfortable dining experience at Doppio Zero with one or two hiccups. The restaurant is dimly lit and has a wooden interior design, all of which made me feel relaxed and at home. The wait staff appear to be bilingual (Cantonese and English) but their English has room for improvement. Getting our orders down on paper took a little longer than expected, either it was because our waitress didn't know the menu well enough or she had some difficulty communicating to us in English - maybe it was a little bit of both. But she and the rest of the staff were attentive and polite, and took care to point out the pricing differences between the regular and entree portions of the pasta dishes.I started with the truffled fried oysters and these are not to be missed! The oysters were served in their shell on top of a bed of salt. Although the oysters were fried, they tasted light, creamy and had just the right amount of seasoning. The creamed spinach complimented the fried oysters very well. Then came the tagliatelle with a bolognese meat sauce, which was also creamy but not heavy. The pasta was cooked al dente, giving an appropriate texture to the whole dish. There was just the right amount of sauce and meat covering the pasta. My portion of the meal came up to HKD242, which is a little pricey for the amount of food that I had. However, this is overshadowed by attentive service, great dining atmosphere, and unique and high quality dishes. Although I'm usually confined to the Central area, I think I'll venture out here for lunch one day.…Read More
