Fantastic Party Menu
Valerie's @ Waterfront Restaurant, Cafe, Bar
2013-05-20
Son's birthday - ordered the birthday set menu from here.Absolutely fantastic selection of pizza, pasta and salad. Could tailor make as we saw fit and for a party of about 35 people there was a veritable mountain of food. Everyone went home with a doggy bag.Pasta - simple and nice pesto and tomato penne. Also a big container of bolognese and spaghetti. All good.Pizza - our choice - 10 in all. Nice thin crust. We opted for simple mushroom pizza, pepperoni pizzas and margarita pizzas. Thin crust and really nice.Salad - Caesar salad with all the necessary bits provided too.Chips - not greasy. Tasted good.Mini-burgers - delicious and simple too.Drinks - soft drinks supplied with plastic cups.Paper plates, plastic forks and spoons all provided with tissues as well.Great service and very good food. Will definitely be using them again if we have another event.…Read More

RICKS Restaurant & Bar

Seated right away and tables moved to accommodate the baby.Beers sorted straight away.Tzatziki came with some lovely hot pita bread.Meatballs - nice sauce and not overcooked. All good.Stuffed calamari - really nice. The pork stuffing was good and went well with the squid itself.Seafood medley - nicely presented, hot where it should have been hot and all tasted good - nice crispy deep fried onion rings too.Chorizo sausage - nice, but a tad salty - more than it should have been, but was still enjoyed by all.Beers kept coming.Very nice staff, nice assortment of dishes and a nice chilled lunch over all.Second time there and certainly not the last. The menu looks good throughout so I would be interested in eating my way through it. Really like the tapas style as well.Great place.…Read More

Sawaddee Thailand

Absolutely packed out but they put us on a reserved table without any question asked.Stuffed chicken wings - good. Looked good and tasted better.Green curry with chicken and no aubergine. Really nice and flavoursome. Good curry and nice pieces of chicken too.Massan curry. Not my thing but was good. All cooked well, presented well and arrived quickly too.Simple but good. Will go again when in the area. Staff were all friendly too.…Read More

ZAKS

Great place to sit outside and watch the beach and the world cruise by.....nice views of the water make it a really relaxing place to be.Very extensive menu....prices seemed a bit steep until we saw what we were buying.Zaks special pizza, minus the pineapple, was a very good size and was exactly what was said on the tin. Very filling and tasted pretty good too - not too much sauce and the toppings were all good.Vongole.....a lot of pasta and a lot of shellfish. Really good size portion but my only complaint would be that the clams were too small. Maybe less but bigger would be better. Otherwise, the two portions ordered were all eaten and enjoyed.Thick toast fingers with BLT - again, exactly what was said on the tin. Large size portion and the toppings were plentiful. Very filling and worth the price.Attentive staff, great environ and left satiated. When next in DB, it will be my choice of places to go. Worth a visit....…Read More

Nice Dinner
Grappa's Millennio
2012-05-24
Table booked a few days in advance and was called that morning to re-confirm.Table for 8. Staff immediately friendly and helpful as numbers were probably going to fluctuate on the original booking.Drinks were fast.House bread was delicious - tasted really fresh and was really nice and light - really good. We had several. Pizza came to feed Junior - and it was cooked really well. Romangola (sp?) and the base was nice and thin and crispy. All good. Devoured very quickly.Pastas came - one vongole and one tomato sauce of a type. All cooked well and all very flavoursome. Pasta was cooked slightly al dente and not overdone like so many other places selling pasta.Mussels? Fantastic. Really nice cream sauce and all cooked to perfection. No complaints there at all - probably the first ones like that we have come across in HK and will certainly be going back just for them. Highly recommended by my wife.Carry in birthday cake was cut up by the staff which was a nice touch. All in all - a great dining experience, good venue, good staff and good food. A good place for a birthday dinner especially for a group. Will be going again, sooner rather than later.…Read More

Good Thai lunch...
Thai Pepper
2012-05-08
Simple lunch request - we're hungry.Seated straight away. All good. Staff friendly - all good.Orders taken and came very quickly. The tom yum koung was all good. Nice and spicy but was a tad small - admittedly it was the smaller size on the menu, but could have done with being a little bigger. Tasted good though and that stands in it's favour. Pork with basil. Really good and just spicy enough to have a kick. The basil was almost crispy which really added to the overall dish. Definitely something I will have again.Nothing amazing with the pad thai, but still all finished. A little sweet if anything. All in all, good food and we all left satiated. Will be going again before too long. Reasonable prices too which is always good.…Read More

Some of the best yet....
Jin Luo Bao Korean Restaurant
2012-04-30
Having been searching high and low for some good Korean fare, we left feeling very optimistic after lunch from here.Huge place but was busy which has to be the start of something good as people seem to be quite picky about Korean food.Ordered two dishes - calbitang and a spicy bean soup thing for my wife - something I had never seen before - here or in Korea. Side dishes came and for the first time in Hong Kong it wasn't the standard potato, beansprouts, spinach and kimchi - they were much more authentic Korean kimchi sides - all spicy and all various plants as they do back in Korea. Some squid thrown in there too. All good if you are missing the proper stuff. My soup was huge and filling. The meat wasn't bad but a little chewy, but plenty of it. Wife shared hers with Junior....and both left full.Icecream for dessert. From the limited menu that we ate we were very impressed and it seems to be considerably cheaper than other places selling the same stuff. We will definitely be going back to start working our way through the menu to make sure it is as good as it seemed yesterday.Nice staff - very attentive.Reasonable cost. All good.…Read More

A nice roast
WHITE STAG
2012-04-23
Seated straight away.....but it was nearly empty.Staff attentive and quick to produce menus and tell us what the special was.Ordered two roast lamb and one veg. curry.Beer came quickly - tasted pretty mediocre but it is a taste that I have come to get used to - lager here doesn't seem to have the taste differences like it does in the UK.Food came and was a pile....a good amount of food for $98 and with a good variety of vegetables too. Nice mash, nice cauli and broccoli...peas and carrots too. A veritable pile of meat too.....Veg. curry was apparently mediocre but was eaten in it's entirety.Overall, for a cheap and very filling roast, it was great value at $98 and is somewhere I will definitely be going back to, based on size and value alone.A good feed....came away feeling very full and hit the spot that had been missing a good roast lunch.…Read More

Seated straight away. Nice environ overall.Very attentive staff from the off - almost too much so.Orders taken and drinks came very quickly. Nice water bottles designed in Italy supposedly. Fries came first. A really good size 'M' portion. Cooked really well and nice and crunchy down to the last one. A good smattering of salt too.Fajita came next....sizzling when it arrived and tasting pretty good. Not totally authentic but nice nonetheless. Maybe a few too many herb type weeds in it, but the chicken was cooked well and five assorted condiments helped it along. 'L' size but maybe not quite enough to fill someone who was, well, very hungry.Linguine with clams followedThe clams were huge and very clean looking. The pasta was 'saucy' enough to keep it nice and moist throughout and the only complaint would be that it was a little salty. I would however eat it again. 'M' size and certainly filling. Perfectly cooked pasta. The burger was last to arrive, but was worth the wait. 'L' size and certainly a good size for someone such as myself. Really enjoyed it and it was cooked very well indeed - slightly pink and the meat was falling apart which is something that I find makes a burger that much more 'authentically homemade'. The only real complaint, and something which i find to be annoying in many places, is the need to put pickles in a burger. It calls itself the 'British Burger' and whilst i have not lived in the UK for a long time, I do remember that finding pickles in a burger is not that common at all. They weren't listed on the menu as being in the burger so, KEEP THEM OUT! Otherwise, a good burger and one which I will be eating again.Overall, one of the better meals we have had out of late and a place that I will definitely be going back to to sample other things on the menu. Also, the option of sizes is a really good idea and it applied to each dish on the menu so theoretically, everyone should be able to find something which suits them and their appetite. Really nice lunch and definitely a place I recommend for others to try....…Read More

Carpaccio Pasta Pizza Vino

Attentive staff...friendly.Ordered one child buffet for my six year old. One pasta dish for myself, knowing that we would be sharing. The buffet was small...and looked a bit like a breakfast buffet rather than a lunch buffet as there were scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon and hash browns as well as the usual cold cuts and salads. It was all.....well....OK and for the price it was certainly OK as there were some nice looking desserts too.I was getting the food and eating the salad stuff with my son and when my pasta came, he had half. the vongole was actually very nice and the pasta cooked really well. Lots of clams in it too.Desserts were eaten and when they were gone, a coffee, which was all good. However, on the bill an extra adult buffet had been added and when questioned as to why it was stated that "My staff saw you going many times"....The look on my face must have said everything though as it was taken off without complaint but I could see they weren't happy about it.At what point does a parent send a six year old to get food from a buffet, especially one with chocolate cakes at the end? And if my son had gone many times, would it still have been added to my bill?It was nice, and the food wasn't bad at all, but not good enough to make me want to go again. The addition of an extra $148 buffet meal on the bill has left a very sour taste in my mouth as whilst I did get up and get food, the majority was for my son and in my book I didn't know that visits were apparently counted....If you are in the area, their desserts were really good - try some.... …Read More

Filling lunch
Wong Chun Chun Thai Restaurant
2012-04-05
Empty, even at lunch, so seating nine was no problem.Orders were taken and they arrived intermittently. However, when they did come, they were really good. All dishes were finished to the last crumb by those at the table.Tom yum koong. Nice and spicy with some big prawns in it. Really flavoursome and spicy too.Fried rice with prawn - huge for the price and presented well.Green curry with lamb - spicy with big chunks of lamb in it - only grief with it was that the lamb was quite fatty, but good nonetheless.Fried rice with pork and garlic - interesting mix but worked well and again a big plate.Deep fried squid - nearly perfectly crispy...but what was lacking in crunch was made up for in flavour.Prawn balls - best I have had.One more rice dish which I am not sure what it was but there were chunks of meat and lots of vegetables in it and also tasted good.Drinks and beers came quickly and were quick to come again when asked for.Really good lunch - certainly satiated and will definitely go again for a good Thai fix.Recommend it to anyone....if you like Thai....and is certainly better than any other Thai I have had in city limits.....Great value too...cheap for nine. Check their website for downloadable vouchers...…Read More

Nice lunch outside
L16
2012-04-05
Lovely to be sat outside at lunch time.Staff were quick.Place was busy but they seemed to be on top of it all.Menu looked to be quite extensive and the lunch menu had a good selection too.Crab meat fried rice. Tasted good but wasn't hot enough - almost cold.Fried octopus - again too cold, but was cooked well as far as heat was concerned as we aksed for it to be not so spicy as my son was eating it. Tasted nice. Just needed to be warmer.Lamb green curry. First time I have seen it offered with lamb and it was the first time I have had a 'hot' green curry without asking for it here in Hong Kong. Tasted really nice and the lamb was an interesting twist. Only complaint was that the cuts were quite scratty which I did mention to the manager when leaving. Will go again and would recommend it. Can't beat sitting in the sun eating good food with cold beer...…Read More

What's not to like?Staff very friendly and helpful with the menu.Food wasn't overly fast but it did come hot and looking good.It looked bigger than it actually was which isn't a bad thing as I left feeling pleasantly full but not stuffed.Portobello mushroom was full of flavour and it was, basically, a really good feed.Friend had a normal cheeseburger and was also satiated...Great burger, great taste and pleasant dining experience.Go on...try it.…Read More

Kaya Korean restaurant
2012-03-26
First time there - on a recommendation from a friend.Seated straight away - but we were there early so no surprise on that one.Staff came straight away and were attentive.Food was ordered - simple order as we only wanted one order of boodayjigay - spicy meat and noodle soup. For some reason this dish always takes a long time to arrive in restaurants here..not sure why but again we had to wait. However, when it did come it looked good and all the right bits were there.Soup base was nice. Spam was a bit too much but was eaten anyway.Extra noodles were needed to fill us up totally but it was all good. The only problem I have with this soup, especially in HK Korean places, is the price - $380. It is an expensive option and I am not sure why as the ingredients, traditionally, are not the most expensive thing a restaurant kitchen will be buying as the soup originated during the Korean war based on leftover scraps of meat and other bits of food.Overall, we will go again and I would recommend others to go. Not a bad dining experience at all.....…Read More
