Sub-par food, at best!
Otto Restaurant & Bar
2013-04-19
When arrived at the Otto, we were greeted by the friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere.Since this was our first time to the restaurant, we ventured to try their set dinner. We had:Ceasar Salad with Smoke SalmonMeatballsMushroom SoupSea BassPanna CottaWhere do we start with the food... The Ceasar dressing was not bad, unfortunately the Smoke Salmon was horribly textured and tasted. Definitely not what you would take a second bite after trying your first. The Meatballs, though tasted pretty good, was overcooked by about 500%. Chewing on the meatballs had an interesting bouncy sensation due to its insanely overcooked nature. The Mushroom Soup tasted pretty good (my highlight for the evening). My Sea Bass was a complete flop. Tasteless - as in no fish taste, no seasoning, no nothing. This being my main, was my absolute worst experience for the evening, to the point that I could only bare eating maybe 1/4 of it. Such a waste. The Panna Cotta, well, tasted like regular 奶白. Good enough of a dessert. On my friend's recommendation and pictures on OpenRice, I had a pretty different expectation walking in, but was sorely disappointed at the end.…Read More

Steakhouse? hardly!
Craftsteak
2013-04-18
Craft Steak categorizes itself as a high quality steakhouse, and that was how I had set up my expectation walking in.Let's talk atmosphere first... with it being in Soho, walking into the restaurant this is a typical Soho hangout, with high energy, open concept, friendly staff, very comfortable and a great place to entertain. The choice of meats was decent, with meat supplies ranging from USDA to Aussies' to Canadian's.For appetizers, we started with an order of steak tartar and onion soup. Both were good, not the best I've ever had, but good enough for us to clean the plate/bowl.For our mains, I ordered a 40oz boned in Ribeye (to share) and my guest ordered a USDA Sirloin. Here's where our nightmare began. The Sirloin was ordered medium rare and it came medium well. Not the end of the world, thanks to the good quality of meat, the Sirloin was not a total loss.Unfortunately for me, my overpriced 40oz Canadian Ribeye came like it was fired with twice the heat but with only half the time. The meat was completely burnt to a crisp yet the meat was borderline raw. I had ordered medium rare by the way so I guess for those math nut out here, by applying the law of averaging the chef actually did alright! I was sharing my slap of meat with a customer and he said he loved it, rendering my right to complain mooted. The meat was so raw that I had problem cutting through it with a steak knife.I think this is an expectation problem. A steak house, charging this much money better have its grill master's skill honed pretty close to perfection. In Craft's case... his skill level is so far off the mark that this was a shameful attempt to cook the meat, wasted a god quality piece of meat and a complete rip off for the money charged. With so many good alternatives for a good steak in Hong Kong, there is no sane reason to waste your valuable time and money at Craft.…Read More

tommid I think the charred on the outside and pink in the inside is exactly the definition of medium rare. It is how they intended it, the selling point if you like.

absolute GARBAGE!
發記飯店
2012-11-19
A friend recommended 發記 as a "great 打冷" place... so I gave it a try. Wanting to try the basic 潮州 dishes out to see how good they are, I ordered: 鵝片 and 白粥 to start (was going to get more, but thankfully, I did not).To my horror, the 鹵水鵝片 came as a plate of 鵝 jerky and the 粥 was luke warm at best.QUALITY OF FOOD: 鹵水鵝片Any half decent cook, if seeing their food dried to this degree would've thrown it out rather than serving it to any customer as a poor ass excuse to pond off their garbage. 白粥My bowl of 白粥 was even sadder. It's luke warm. I does not take a retard to heat up 粥, yet mine came luke warm. Talk about adding sald onto the wound. TASTE:With quality of food this poor, do we really need to talk about the taste?SERVICE/CLEANLINESS:The servers were polite and the environment was clean enough. This review was 100% based on the quality of (or there lack of) food served and not based on service or cleanliness of the restaurant. This place has no professionalism, pride nor skill. STAY AWAY!!!…Read More

Pho Delight Vietnamese Cuisine
2012-08-18
Walked by this place and thought... nice and close, why not. How badly can you F*#&^% up Pho. With this much talent, Pho Delight over exceeded how NOT to prepare PHO by a mile.I ordered a Rare Beef + Beef Ball Pho. One of the easiest they can cook since the only moving parts here is freshness of its meat, a properly prepared soup base and that's about it Here goes: - 4 tiny slices of beef that was well done by the time it got to me (might as well because the soup was luke warm, hardly capable of cooking the beef had it been actually raw) - 3 1/2 of beef balls (how you do end up with 1/2 a beef ball) - luke warm soup (are you kidding?) - so much MSG in the soup you can chew it (I was dying of thurst by the 3 bite/spoon)Amount of meat you get was rediculous no matter how you look at it; but this was not the end of the world.Luke warm soup? Are you kidding? It takes no skill to boil a pot!!!For a place that has a ton of left over beef and most likely bones, making a proper soup should be second nature and takes literal no effort. But they chose to take the lazy way out and dump in a TON of MSG into their soup pot. FOR SHAME!With so many average and so many amazing restaurants around, there is really no reason to waste a meal at this place.…Read More
