Beyond horrible service. Decent food
Bellini
2015-05-24
It's not my first time coming to Bellini. I've always liked their food and atmosphere so I thought I would bring my parents and boyfriend there for a cute, late Sunday lunch. We arrived at 2:30pm and the waitress mumbled something to me which I didn't pay attention to. It didn't sound important because after all, she was mumbling. All I heard was "3 o'clock" so I assumed their last order for the lunch menu stopped at 3...From the moment the waitress sat us down, she already had a horrible attitude in the way she served/talked to us. I later found out after we finished our food at 3:20 that she actually mumbled "we close at 3" at the beginning. Well, if that was the case, please make sure we all clearly heard and visibly reacted to what was being said. Anyone with an intellectual ability could calculate half an hour is no where near enough for ordering and finishing 4 full lunch sets. Perhaps turning us away upon our arrival would be better than having to deal with her impoliteness and longface. She didn't say "excuse me," "I'm so sorry," or anything once we finished our food... She just basically threw us out.  It's a pity the service was this unpleasant because the food at Bellini is very decent. The waitress' rudeness and lack of professionalism ruined the atmosphere for all of us.I ordered the duck breast risotto, which came with a lobster soup. I also ordered the foie gras with jelly as an appetizer. The lobster soup tasted good, but it was too watery for my liking. I wish it was slightly creamier. The foie gras didn't make my mouth water, because wasn't as rich or smooth as I would have liked. But I did like the foie gras being accompanied with apricot jam. The jam gave it a nice tangy, yet sweet flavour which went very well together with it.My duck breast risotto was average. It didn't wow me, but it also didn't disappoint me. I didn't like how the duck breast was chopped into pieces as tiny as it was. The lunch set came with a drink of your choice and a small dessert. I guess I was extra picky since the service put me in a horrid mood. My iced lemon tea was 75% ice, so by the time I drank a quarter of the glass, it tasted like lemon water. The dessert was a small blueberry cake but I couldn't make out if it was a cheese cake. Because if it was... It tasted nothing like it.Everything was honestly fine except the terrible service from that one waitress. She needs to learn how to be polite.…Read More

So disappointed. Used to love this place
Fresh One
2015-05-23
This used to be a great sushi place. It was cozy, and their sushi was extremely fresh and appetizing. Haven't been here for almost half a year now, it's completely gone downhill. All the familiar faces who worked at the restaurant are gone. The restaurant seats maybe 10 people max. It's small. A little claustrophobic if you're not a fan of enclosed spaces. There were 2 people who worked there the night I just went. Neither of them could care less about us or their job. When we ordered, they seemed confused themselves about their own menu. They were not efficient at all, and didn't even give us dipping plates for our soya sauce when we ordered sashimi?! We had to ask 3 separate times for 3 dipping plates. That's ridiculous! The sushi was not fresh. It was mushy to say the least. I ordered the sashimi cold udon, and the udon itself was lovely. The texture was chewy (I love chewy udon) and "bouncy." The sashimi was lacking in quality. It used to be so fresh and now it tastes like it's been there in the fridge for a month. This used to be my go to places in Tin Hau for sushi. But I guess not anymore.…Read More

An authentic Hong Kong experience
Australia Dairy Company
2015-05-22
This place has always been known for its rude but efficient servers and their Hong Kong style food. Being a fan of Yee Shun, I definitely prefer Yee Shun to this place. But I enjoyed what I ordered. I got the egg sandwich and the egg was light and thick, which I liked. I wish I got the sandwich toasted though because it would've held the egg together with it much better. There isn't much I can comment on. The place itself is typical Hong Kong "cha charng teng." So it's not the most hygienic, and the servers will throw things in front of your face. Don't stay for too long either, they will tell you to leave. But they are efficient, so I don't know where to draw the line for good service haha. I do recommend this place for the experience. Their breakfast/lunch/tea sets are great.…Read More

Cheap food, good portions
Yoshinoya
2015-05-22
For fast food, Yoshinoya has great quality food. I always get the Pork & Chicken rice with a soft boiled egg on top. I like the chicken better than the pork just because the nature of their pork is fattening. But that's the point I guess. The pork is also a little dry, which I didn't enjoy.I ordered their miso soup, and it was too salty. I usually like Tofu in my miso soups too, and they didn't have anything in it except Seaweed. It was only a $3 add. Oh well.…Read More

Not as impressive as I expected
Bao Wow
2015-05-22
Wasn't as impressed with Bao Wow as I thought I would be. I ordered the original Traditional Bao. The Traditional Bao wasn't as fluffy as I wanted it to be. The Bao itself was flimsy and everything fell apart... I wish the pork belly was sweeter and more flavourful. It wasn't juicy enough and was very dry. The parsley on the Bao added a nice touch though. It wasn't the worst, but it's not close to being amazing at all.The place offers phone chargers which was interesting and nice of them. The overall decor of the place was dim and narrow. Not too exciting. For a quick lunch, it's okay. Don't expect much.…Read More

Didn't like the rice roll...
Oppa Chicken
2015-05-15
A friend from HKU brought me here for a quick bite. For its price, it was decent food. We only ordered 2 things though -- we got the egg and the rice roll. The egg was filled with cheese, with a yummy sauce drizzled over it. I usually get sick of cheese really easily, but something about this made me want more after I finished. However, the rice roll was, in my opinion, pretty bad. I thought there was way too much seaweed, so all I could taste was salt and rice. I didn't like it at all. It was WAY too salty for my liking.Because I was sick, I didn't get to try other things. But I will come back for their chicken! …Read More

Nice food, nice place
The Coffee Academics (耀華街)
2015-05-15
A friend and I decided to go here being fans of Cafe Habitu. It's decorated beautifully. We were seated on the porch. I always love the idea of sitting outside, but at Coffee Academics, it's literally right next to the street. So needless to say, it was distracting for us because the cars would constantly honk and try to start up their engines right next to us  so if you go to the CWB branch, sit inside! Or at least make sure there are no annoying cars.My friend ordered the all-day breakfast and I ordered the spaghetti bolognese with the slow cooked egg. He was disappointed with the breakfast because it was really average for its price, taste and portion included. So, I don't recommend getting that.My spaghetti bolognese was tasty and filling. The slow cooked egg is a nice addition. The texture of the spaghetti was great, and the bolognese wasn't heavy at all.I do think, however, Academics is slightly overpriced for what they offer. But hey, what isn't these days. Regardless, I'm excited to come back for the curly fries and churros! There will definitely be a next time :)…Read More

Cutest tea place so far!
Teakha
2015-05-15
I've heard wonderful things about Teakha so I decided to try it for myself. The space is cozy and small, but they have an outdoor area as well as another space next door. The decor is extremely cute and gives off great vibes.I went there for Brunch and ordered the Roselle tea and their pancakes. The Roselle tea was extremely refreshing, calming and soothing. It was recommended to me by the people who work there. The pancakes are home-made, and they're sort of similar to soft scones. It is topped with caramelised bananas and bacon. It goes very well together and tastes divine.I ended up staying here chatting with a friend for 2.5 hours. It's a great place to catch up with a friend. I highly recommend Teakha! …Read More

A hidden restaurant worth trying
Henry's Kitchen
2015-05-14
I live close-by, and I always pass Henry's Kitchen. I finally decided to give it a try. The server was extremely friendly and helpful in deciding what to eat. I was with a party of 3, and between us, we ordered half a dozen of Oysters, Mussels in cream sauce, squid with honey mustard dip and a foie gras salad mixed with fresh fruits and balsamic vinaigrette as the appetizers. We had bread with hummus dip which was a fabulous pair for the bread.  The cream sauce for the Mussels was a nice touch and gave the mussels a rich taste. For the main course, we ordered the Salmon Angel Hair Pasta in a tomato sauce and the dinner set for 2 which included a spinach soup, watermelon with cream cheese and salmon fish cake, black truffle scallop and Sirloin Steak. The spinach soup wasn't too flavourful. The angel hair pasta overall was not too impressive -- the salmon in the pasta had a smooth texture, but tasted a little too bland. For dessert, we ordered the Rose Panna Cotta and Mango Parfait. The Rose Panna Cotta had an awesome after taste, and wasn't too sweet. Overall, I would say Henry's Kitchen is worth a try if you're up for something new and refreshing.…Read More

Definitely a fan of Greyhound
Greyhound Café (國際金融中心)
2015-05-14
Whenever I don't know what to eat in Central, Greyhound is always my go to place. The decor is nice and comfortable, service is great and the food is good. I usually get the Minced Chicken with Sweet Basil and Hot Chilies rice, but this time I tried the Fried Rice with Dried Salted Fish, Sweet Basil Leaves and Chilies Rice. I was expecting the fish to be slightly chewy, but it was completely crispy and I wasn't the biggest fan. I personally thought the rice overall was too plain, and it didn't have enough spices. My go to appetizer is always the Homemade Pate‚ with Cognac and Fresh Green Peppercorns (Served with crispy toasts). It's basically Foie Gras spread and it's delicious. The pate is smooth and I love the unique taste paired with the peppercorns. It tasted like capers. If you go to Greyhound, you have to try their Iced Lemon Tea (Greyhound Style). The ice is flavoured and so when it melts, you get more iced tea (who doesn't want that right?!) The tea is refreshing and has a perfect balance of all things involved.…Read More

Very average Vietnamese
Pho Yum
2015-05-14
Pho Yum was extremely average. It wasn't good, it wasn't horrible. With the line even after lunch hour, I thought it would be amazing. I ordered the Vietnamese sausage as an appetizer and I was not impressed by the abundance of grease and oil on the sausages. All I could taste was grease in my mouth. The pork chop vermicelli was good. The pork chop was tasty and crispy, and the vermicelli had a nice texture to it. However, don't expect great service as its typical "dai pai dong" service. But if you're around the area and looking for a cheap, big-portioned and fast meal to satisfy your Pho cravings, Pho Yum could be an option.…Read More

A lovely comfortable location with decent coffee
Cafe Deadend
2015-05-14
I'm a huge fan of mochas, and I think Cafe Deadend's mocha is pretty decent. It wasn't as sweet as I wanted it to be, but that's a personal preference. There was a good balance in the mocha. The chocolate was rich and it wasn't bitter like a lot of others I've tasted. The best thing about Deadend is definitely their beautiful location. Had a wonderful afternoon chatting with a friend in their cozy space.…Read More

Great sushi lunch set
Akasushi
2015-05-14
It's usually packed during their lunch hours because they offer a $88 sushi set. In the sushi set, there's miso soup, a small rice of your choice, sushi and sashimi. Their sushi is pretty fresh, and I added $5 for their tamago egg. The tamago was tasty and sort of melted in my mouth. For the price, I think it's a great lunch spot with good sushi. Definitely worth a try.…Read More

A nice summer dessert
Softree
2015-05-14
Decided to try this after hearing about how yummy softree is. It definitely did not disappoint! My friend and I shared the "Liquid Honey," which is milk ice cream topped with honey. Loved the texture of the ice cream -- it was milky and light. The size of the ice cream isn't very big, but it was definitely enough since it was so sweet. I have a huge sweet tooth, so this was the perfect afternoon dessert treat for a hot sunny summer day!…Read More
