Not that amazing
Via Tokyo
2018-02-10
The soft serve is nice, but nowhere near as amazing as the reviews seem to suggest. It tasted like ordinary ice creams with red bean and mochi toppings. None of the ingredients are that special, and tasted not special. Note that minimum order applies.…Read More

Hands down best roast goose and chicken
Yat Lok Restaurant
2018-02-09
This is the kind of place I will bring a guest to "show off" how great the Hong Kong food scene is. Of course, the goose does not disappoint. Its crispy skin and succulent meat will amaze from the first to last bite. My preference is to have it with rice as the noodle soup will undermine both the crispy skin and taste. Another highlight is the soy chicken. This is a dish found on every street corner but what they serve here is far superior. I do not know what kind of magic they use to make the chicken so soft, almost tofu-like. The soy sauce is seasoned just right and goes amazing with a hot plate of rice. Not so great, however, was the char siu pork. I found the pork too dry and chewy. Better save this order to a specialist char siu elsewhere. All in all, amazing. The goose and the chicken are not to be missed.…Read More

Overcooked pasta
Simplylife Bakery Cafe
2018-02-05
Ordered the handmade spaghetti with clam and white wine sauce. Was not impressed as the spaghetti was 'bloated' probably from overcooking and the sauce tasted more like plain soup more than anything. Dessert was okay though not special. Many people swear by Simplylife but from this experience I just could not say the same.…Read More

Mediocre food horrible service
New Star Restaurant
2018-02-05
I came to this Cha Chang Teng as I was hungry for a quick breakfast and it was in a good location. The set menu is quite typical (set menu is not available in English but the a la cart is). The food came and it was just barely edible. The fried egg was way overcooked and other items were just typical. There were barely anyone in the restaurant but the staff there took forever to take my order and were in unhappy mood since the morning.…Read More

Beef on rice
和食居
2018-02-04
Wow! I ordered beef on rice and could not be happier with with I got at this price. The beef was braised well and it came with yummy sweet soy sauce. The accompanying egg only adds to the sumptuousness of the dish. This restaurant gets busy at lunch time but it is not that well known. If other dishes served here is as good as what I had then I must say the restaurant is vastly underrated!…Read More

As usual
Tsui Wah Restaurant Causeway Bay Commercial Building)
2018-02-04
As expected from Tsui Wah, I had efficient service, pleasant environment, and good food. This time I ordered instant noodle with braised pork. Nothing to fault here. The dish tasted good. Pork was soft and noodle was cooked well. The good thing about this branch is that it is quite spacious and newly decorated.…Read More

Fancy but small portion
DJAPA

Went here to try the lunch set. The menu was very interesting with Asian and South American influence. Presentation was excellent too. The let down was the taste and the potion size. On the plate was half of what you would expect from a normal Hong Kong portion size. You will be hungry very soon after. I also found the coconut rice very contradictory with the bean curries. The plate was just not balanced well even though the bean soup were quite nice. Overall, the food was just not there yet but the potential is there.PS. The coffee here is Nespresso.…Read More

Just right for the price
Genki Sushi
2018-02-04
The afternoon tea set is just the right price at $50+ and not a cent more. The set I had consisted of some sushi, fried chicken, and udon soup. Quality of the sushi was nothing special and tasted quite bland. The udon soup was hot and nicely seasoned. Not many people around at this time too. For a light afternoon meal when you are in a hurry, the overall experience was quite pleasant.…Read More

Delicious contemporary Korean
Bistro Seoul

Delicious contemporary Korean food in a comfortable setting. I came here for an early lunch. The set lunch is full of vibrant choices. I had the spicy marinated pork and could not have enough of it. The restaurant gets really busy at lunch so go early to secure a table.…Read More

I would recommend this small Japanese place for a takeaway lunch or dinner as there are limited seats. If you are craving for sushi/sashimi but have limited time or budget, this is the place to go. The menu is very simple. The base for almost every dish is salmon and tuna cubes seasoned with soy sauce served on sushi rice. You can choose what to add on top of this base. Not the best chirachi-type dish in my life, but I find myself coming here often to get rid of the craving. The fried sides are pretty good too. The coating is very crispy and the fillings are tasty.…Read More

Food for ants
Serge et Le Phoque
2017-12-03
The a la carts offerings from this kind of restaurant are why people brand expensive food pretentious ($420 for 4 pieces of bite-sized lamb?!). Each of us had a starter and a main. Needless to say, we left the restaurant hungry. Serving sizes aside, the creativity on the dishes are average at best. The octopus starter was so small that I barely got a taste. It was not memorable. Both the duck and lamb were not particularly tasty either. What a disappointment.…Read More

Chain store
Ocean Empire Food Shop (Johnston Road)
2017-12-01
A chain store that sells pretty ordinary congee. The taste was the bare minimum required to be decent. The fried dough was a disappointment though. It was cold, hard, and not crispy. Given the choices of restaurants in this area, there's no chance that I will be back.…Read More

This small ramen house serves a simple menu. I had the black garlic ramen with the thought that you cannot go wrong with putting more garlic. Really happy with the choice. I chose the noodle to be hard and it came a bit al dente. The soup was excellent, smooth and fragrant. Easily could have finished the soup. It is not easy explaining the dish in words but I would definitely go back for the same dish again.…Read More

Oldies but goodies
Kam Kee Cafe
2017-11-25
This legendary cafe serves everything you can imagine from a cha chan teng in its menu. But the most famous dish is of course the pork with tomato and rice in bread bowl served with some more curry sauce. This dish sets you back $70+ which is considered quite high for such an ordinary setting. It is obvious that decoration is not the chef's main concern as it was basically a bread bowl on a tray. The size is huge though. There is no way you could leave this place hungry after finishing this. Now on to the good. Pork chop was fairly tender and went well with the tomato sauce. I enjoyed the protein with the bread and almost entirely skipped the rice. The bread was crispy on the top part and was great with the pork. The bottom part became soft as it was holding the weight of all rice and pork. Yes, it was delicious and worth the money spent. Would go back again but probably try other classic dishes.…Read More

Hagen Daz ice cream!
Gyujin Shabu Shabu & Sukiyaki Restaurant (Causeway Bay Plaza I)
2017-11-20
Yes, the hotpot was nice. The tomato soup was smooth and tangy and the mala spicy as expected. Beef and pork are of decent quality for the price. A wide variety of condiments are available for selection - I especially enjoyed the cheesy balls...yum. Many sauces for you to mix and match. All in all a decent hotpot. But the real highlight are the Hagen Daz ice cream! Be sure to down as much as you can after the hotpot!…Read More
