A Big Let Down..
Porterhouse - Seafood & Steak
2015-11-23
This place has consistancy issues. I've been here twice and the first time I orderd the casear salad along the ribeye steak, which were both excellent. So I came back for a second time to explore the rest of the menu and was let down by the poor quality of the dishes, not to mention the service was lacking..We ordered the Pumpkin soup with the Sakura Chicken and the Crabcakes with Uni Linguine. The chicken was extremely salty and very very dry. The Uni Linguine had one small piece of Uni and the rest of the pasta was very bland.. The title is a bit misleading. Additionally we had an extra side of spinach. I was expecting a cream type of spinach but it turned out to be very dry and not very pleasant to eat. Last but not least, we had the chocolate dessert. You can tell by the plating that the presentation is very sloppy! When we feedbacked to the server, we expected some sort of followup discussion with the Chef/manager, but got nothing. You would think a restaurant of this standard would value feedback from customers to try to improve. But nothing. they don't really care. Just gave us the check and was gone. I guess we won't be back. In conclusion, lunch sets are resonably priced at around $220-$250 for a 2 or 3 course meal, but given it's Central and this is supposed to be a higher-end place, the quality of food does not live up to the name! It's a steakhouse, so stick to ordering steaks!…Read More

tourist trap!
PEKING GARDEN (Star House)
2014-10-22
For those of you who are visiting Hong Kong, you need to be aware that locals who hold an American Express Platinum credit card can get up to 50% discount when dining here. As a result, the restaurant has increased their prices significantly to counter the credit card promotion that is widely used by locals. As a result, tourists end up paying significantly more for the food relative to similar establishments. For example, a Peking Duck here costs an incredible $400 HKD, which can be found at much better quality and cheaper prices elsewhere in town.Secondly, the quality of food has gone down significantly. I have been dining here for generations and it has grown to become a large cafeteria like establishment to cater to foreigners simply because the restaurant has a view of the harbour. A matter of fact, unless your table is next to the window, most tables will not have a view of the harbour and not to mention the ceilings are incredibly low.Food and quality of service has gone down tremendously over the years. Plates and napkins are dirty, waiters and management staff have very bad attitudes. The last few times we have been here the Peking Duck had tasted very dry and overcooked. It has this unpleasant lamblike taste which is nasty!Lastly, the management here are tricky. We ordered a fried rice dish and asked the waiter to kindly leave the meat out of the rice as my wife is vegetarian. When the bill came out, we ended up paying significantly more for a plain bowl of fried rice with egg because it was considered a "special request" and not a menu item. So what was supposedly a $40 fried rice dish ($80 - 50% off) became a $118 plain fried rice dish with no discount because it was not on the menu. First off, if they couldn't just leave out the meat on a regular fried rice order, the waiter should have told us. Secondly, if it was a special off the menu item, they should have told us the price beforehand and the price should be reasonable. At best, the price for a plain bowl of fried rice should not be anymore expensive than the most expensive seafood, meat, and vegetable fried rice. SHADY!?…Read More

Horrible attitude, bad service
Azumma Korean Restaurant
2013-10-09
This is probably the worst Korean restaurant I have ever been to in Hong Kong. The waitresses here are rude and not friendly at all.Obey the rules or get out!!1) You can't sit down if your entire party is not present, even if the the entire restaurant is empty.2) You get only 40min to eat and then you have to pay the bill by cash.3) You can only order once. If you're hungry later, you cannot order any more food.\The funny thing is that the food isn't even good. I ordered the beef with rice for $75. The  food came out like it was from a cafeteria with no flavor whatsoever. The sauce seemed liked it was marinated just a few minutes ago and was very bland. We also ordered the seafood cake, but it only contained squid in it and was very oily. They should call it squid cake not seafood cake. Did I also mention  the waitress wasn't nice? Will never come back.…Read More

Beautiful place with very average food and service
GREEN
2013-06-30
There is something seriously wrong about this place when all the waitresses at the Green restaurant have frowns. We tried getting a table for tea time at Green, which is a beautifully decorated restaurant located on the lobby floor. It has very high open ceilings and a beautiful wall garden. The restaurant was full at the time and the hostess flat out had a bad attitude and turned us away and said there were no seats available and said the wait could be up to an hour. I'm not sure if it was because of a language barrier, but the way that she said it was very snobbish, not even offering us to sit at the bar which was available or let us know that several of the tables were almost done. She just flat out did not want to talk to us and wanted us to leave. (Not very welcoming at all for a hotel). After only waiting 5 minutes several tables were available. From there the food and service got worse. We had ordered a tea set and burger and the service was so slow. We saw our food sit on the counter for the longest time while the waitresses were busy cleaning and folding napkins. No service whatsoever. By the time our food arrived, it was already cold. The burger was not bad, but the sandwiches for the tea set were not fresh. The atmosphere is nice, but the service doesn't match the quality of the hotel. The location is not very convenient as well. Overrated.…Read More

Worst Japanese restaurant in Hong Kong for value
Tokoro Robatayaki and Whisky Bar
2013-06-30
:( There is a reason why this place is empty for lunch on a weekend in a busy part of town. The quality of the ingredients is so bad at this restaurant for the amount you are paying for. Even cheap sushi at a super market is better quality. We ordered a beef sukiyaki lunch set for $218 and it tasted horrible and lacked ingredients. The beef was hard and had this odor like it was not fresh. The sukiyaki broth was watered down and very oily. Look at the picture, is this quality japanese food for a hotel? The hotel should be embarrassed. The sashimi was also not fresh with the tuna looking dried and very dark color. The waiter responded that its because it's the weekend and therefore the sashimi is not as fresh as during the weekday. That is horrible excuse for a hotel restaurant which charges hotel prices!I don't recommend coming back as there are better choices around here.…Read More

Horrible food / poor service
PHO 24
2013-06-27
Went here for afternoon tea where they have a deal of $55 for a bowl of pho with selection of two types of meats along with 1 appetizer and drink. The place was empty so we didn't have to wait in line.I ordered a bowl of beef pho along with spring rolls which to my surprise came out in 5 min. Obviously the food is not fresh with spring rolls tasting like it's been sitting in the refridgerator all day. Additionally, the broth for the beef pho was extremely watered down and the beef is not fresh. The entire pho tasted like beef and noodles in a bowl of hot water with absolutely no taste. We also ordered shrimp cake which was obviously premaid and very dry and tasteless. The worst thing was the service. They manager has an attitude as we didn't speak chinese and had questions on the ingredients in the dishes. He was impatient and had a bad temper. Will not be coming back here.…Read More

Overpriced, bad attitude
Sushi Fuku-Suke
2012-11-22
There is a reason why this restaurant is empty during prime-time hours in a busy district such as Causeway Bay.First off, the thing that bugs me the most is the attitude of both the Japanese chef and the waitress here. For a restaurant that has premium prices, the service here is extremely cold and stuck up. I asked for water and an english menu and got dirty looks from the waitress. It would also be courtesy for the waitress to ask if you want Still, Sparkling, or tap water. Instead, they just go ahead and start opening bottles of water for you and you'll find out later when you get the bill.Fortunately, the food here is quite good, but pricey! The sushi platter was very fresh and well presented. The tuna, hamachi, salmon, uni, was all very fresh. However, everything here is extremely overpriced with an attitude. The chef told us to be quiet as we were too loud. That's funny, the entire restaurant was empty! I guess it's inappropriate to enjoy the food and conversation with occasional laughs while you're eating dinner here.A dinner for two people with a decent amount of food (not too much) and no sake, costed about $1000 per person. You would expect that when you pay the bill there's at least a breakdown of all the sushi you ordered, but instead they just give you one figure so that you have no idea how much each item costs. Shady. There are plenty of great sushi restaurants in Hong Kong with similar quality of food for much better prices and friendly service! I will never go back again. …Read More

Great food, rude waitresses
TONKICHI TONKATSU SEAFOOD (World Trade Centre)
2012-11-09
The staff here isn't very friendly to English speakers. Food was great and of high standard. Prices are expensive, but the quality is good. The waitress we had was very rude and kept on getting frustrated everytime we ran the bell. There is no service if kyou sit in the back room. We ordered a pork cutlet set and kstsudon. Both were of great quality fried in clean oil. Shrimp was also big and juicy. You get what you pay for and dishes are very authentic. Even the rice was very good. Too bad service is bad.…Read More

Food and service was fine. The place was quite empty when we arrived at 7:30pm. Staff was friendly.Ordered seabass and it was excellent tasting with all types of sweet and sour spices. The only problem is the serving size is quite small for the price. Almost seemed like an appetizer rather than an entree. Also had the pad Thai. It wasn't bad. Everything here is organic and fresh. Just wished the portions were bigger for the price.…Read More

For the location and price, you would expect much better service and attention to detail. This restaurant just lacks the service. As my girlfriend would say, the waitresses are rough here. They are not pleasant, smell like cigarettes, and drop the food on your table like you're at some cheap Japanese restaurant in causeway bay. With that said, if you're into Japanese food and quality service,, this is not the place for you. I don't even know why they have a dresscode when this place isn't even that fancy. We ordered a beef steak set for $350. Portions were a bit small and despite the beef being medium and pink in the center, it was tough and not fresh. The sashimi is decent but nothing special in terms of freshness. Miso soup was good. The cod fish was average. The pork vegetable wasn't that great tasting.Tea was fine.Egg custard was ok but with strong citrus taste.Overall, this place is just lacking service and quality. A big disappointment!…Read More

Great place for special occasion celebrations
Cafe Gray Deluxe
2012-06-05
I've been to Cafe Grey before for lunch and thought it was a bit overrated. However, my dinner experience was much better. We had a birthday celebration and had a semi-private room with gorgeous views of the city along with a backdrop of the open kitchen. The table was absolutely fantastic!! The food all around was fantastic, and much better value compared to a place like SPOON (Intercontinental Hotel). Obviously, still pricey but that what you pay for a place like this. The bill was $2700 for 4 people. We ordered a few appetizers including which were all delicious: Saffron Pasta Fiore Seasonal Oysters, Lobster Claw and Shrimps Lime and Minoonette Entrees were all superb. In particular the Steak and the Sea Bass were the best and of good portions.Service was excellent and extremely friendly Cake Cutting Cost = $200 :(Overall, a great place for a special occasion celebration. Make sure to make reservations in advance for the special rooms.…Read More

This place has amazing harbour views but is extremely over priced for mediocre food.We had the lobster salad which was decent taste but definitely not worth $500 for that dish. Keep in mind it's a baby lobster, not a Boston one! You would expect more for that price. Also had the squid ink pasta. Nothing special. If anything, wasn't very tasty with small portions and a very bland brown sauce. The scallop was my favorite. Very tasty but you only get 3 small pieces. Very pricey place with avg dish to be $400-600 with tiny servings. Water alone with $98!!Overpriced. Food wasn't even that great.…Read More

Big Disappointment!
Kurotaki
2012-05-14
This restaurant was a big disappointment. Prawn Salad - Looks nothing like the menu. When it came out, it was a small shrimp salad while the menu showed nice large prawns!Softshell Crab Roll - Was decent tasting but very very oily!Prawn Roll - huge chunks of rice. seemed liked I was eating a rice ball. Not very tasty at allSoba - The selection of soba was good but unfortunately many were sold out by 6pm. The taste was good for the one we ordered but a bit overpriced. $98 for soba only!--The service was also poor. The chopsticks and plate we had were dirty when we arrived. The bell for the ticket number is extremely loud and annoying. Ridiculous and uncomfortable dining experience. Will not go back.…Read More

KNSW Terrible service at this place... from manager to waitresses... which is a bit of a shame as their food is actually decent. Wasted all the effort and hard work by the cook.

Decent food - Poor Service
La Crêperie (鉅芝樓)
2012-04-28
My girlfriend and I came in on the weekend and the whole place was empty. We wanted to sit at the window, but the waitress insisted we sit in the cramped corner as we don't have a reservation. During our entire meal, the place remained relatively quiet with only 2 or 3 other tables occupied. The waitresses simply don't care about service. It's apparent they don't care for their jobs. No greeting, no smiles, water was never refilled, didn't bother to check on how the food was, took forever to get the bill as the waitresses were chit-chatting among themselves, etc...You would expect better service from a French place. The Food is decent and moderately pricedI had a ham and cheese with egg crepe and a chocolate crepe for dessert. Both were good and not too filling. The price is moderate, but the service is poor. :(They also have a good lunch set menu. A lunch crepe and a dessert crepe for $88 on weekdays. good value…Read More

joycel1234 You are correct that we were arrange a table at the corner since we didn't have a reservation. And there it was so hot and the air conditioning didn't work well.:( It's good that we were totally separated from the groups who had reservation so we could have a great time and the food was nice.
