Go if you want disappointment
Moon (Un Chau Street)
2022-07-27
Subsequent to the completions of redevelopment projects in old districts, there are quite a few new restaurants in Cheung Sha Wan. Moon Restaurant is one of the new names opening in May 2022. The fresh & outstanding design of restaurant and its facade would be pretty much a convincing key to attract attention of curious people. Trust shop-owner must have spent a lot on restaurant design & decisions. Although food tasty and quality appeal to me more importantly than anything, nice interior design would always a nice excuse for gluttonous to have a good try. Honestly speaking, there are wide range of selections on their foods menu that includes Chinese, Kongish Western style and also Kongish Korean cuisine in addition to different package sets. Upon confirming with chef the availability, I made an order for Stir Fried noodles with Pork Ribs, Fried Green Cabbage and Ice Lemon Tea without syrup. Since their food menu have Stir Fried Noodles with Beef or Stir Fried Flat Rice Noodles with Pork Ribs only. The first disappointment to me was the drink, the bar staff completely ignored my request on no syrup. The second disappointment was about the Fried Green Cabbage. In fact it is also a course instead of side dish, you would never imagine they served the portion that was just one third of the other same grading restaurant catering. Unreasonable size portion, over oily & overcooked threated me to decide not repeating to dine in this restaurant because charging such common food with so substandard quality at 62 Hong Kong Dollars is totally unacceptable. Last but not least, the chef ignored once again on my special request about the fried noodles which supposed to be with pork ribs. In this circumstance, I finished the unwanted 'BEEF NOODLES' which was unpalatable, and swore never having meal in this ridiculous restaurant anymore. To summarize, paying 135 Hong Kong Dollars for eat out is really not a big deal but given the fact that there are so many choices with better quality in the same areas, I don't think I would give further chance to this substandard restaurant that must repeat another round of bad dining experience especially when you read through this writing.…Read More

As a Hongkonger, no doubt you must have known well what kongish assorted noodle is, because many of you might be just like me when growing up with limited pocket money. In order to get a satisfying feeling of satiety and large variety of different ingredients within an affordable price range, assorted noodle also known as 'Che Chai Min' would ever be the best choice. I could have this popular street food three to four times a week as lunch meals and sometimes even for the dinners. Those were the days back to 70 to 80's. After leaving from the school and immersing myself into an extremely intensive working society, also with the advance of economic capacity, I have been not so often to have assorted noodle especially switching to long stay in UK afterward. I would say that most Hongkongers have treated such delicious local food as part of our important childhood memory also Hong Kong Culture.By occasion, I catched up with my good friends to retrieve this unforgettable Kongish flavour over again at the eatery called 'Che Chai Min Family' in Sheung Wan. My favourite combination of ingredients is alway the yellow raw noodle with curry fish balls, marinated chicken wings & tips and feet whereas my friends preferred rice noodles with curry turnips, pork skin and pork blood. Because of store-owner specially recommended their signature dishes, i.e. spicy sauced squid as well as Sichuan spicy pork colons, and also our compliment to their food and hospitality, we finally included them as additional side dishes. I much wonder if it would be too much for us but we ended up finishing them off. There is no denying the fact that their assorted noodle is much better than the one I ever tried. The yellow raw noodle has been rinsed in cold water to keep tastes without alkaline. The perfect flavor integration of Curry fish balls was so chewy and al dente. Turnip was soft and sweety without any fibre. Everything of their recipes we found to be hitting the spot especially their homemade spicy sauces and signature dishes.Che Chai Min Family, nice staff and good food. Although it is just a small shop that serves with 8 tables only, the staff enabled the tidiness of restaurant with a high degree of hygiene standards that could be observed from the cleanliness of the floor, tables and chairs as well as condiment containers.Well ! Apparently my friends and I were hungry. But if it is really a matter of starvation that would never be sufficient to drive me to jot notes here for such ultimate dining experience. I highly recommend Che Chai Min Family, located at Shop 3-7 Wing Kut Street Sheung Wan.…Read More

Good for rising appetite in Hot Summer
Tin Kee Dumpling Restaurant
2022-07-26
It's probably due to the record high hot weather leads to a poor appetite. Whenever thinking about where and what I shall have for dinner tonight, it could be spent half an hour struggling with Openrice or Eatery App but not reach conclusion. Nowadays dining out in Hong Kong is overwhlemed with the chain restaurants encouraging value for money and secret recipes as common  business models. In contrast, giving unnecessary bigger portions and too oily or too much MSG are the major factors to suppress everyone appetite especially during the hot summer. To balance up the above, I will go for having simple meal at local eateries or individual small shops. It has been the third time within two weeks having dumpling at Tin Kee Dumpling Restaurant. Apart from a few selections of snack dishes i.e. drunken chicken, drunken pork knuckle and marinate beef shank etc, the shop is mainly serving dumplings in soups or being fried. The selection of dumpling ingredients are minced chicken, pork, beef and lamb with different vegetables. My favourite is Asian Chives Pork Dumplings. Each portion will serve with 8 or 10 dumplings. There is no fancy condiments or sauces but to serve with brown vinegar as only dressing. Tasty indeed ! You must try.Tin Kee is a tiny shop with less than 20 seating accommodation.  During the dining hours you will have to queue at the shop front for 15 to 30 minutes. For those not be willing to wait for the long queue dining inside will rather go for take away. …Read More
