Fun and delicious desserts!
ZUC.CCH.ERO
2019-05-16
This place makes fun desserts and so my friend and I wanted to check it out! We got there at 2:30pm on Saturday and there were only 2 other people there! We got break the tear and the sakura tree which were made right in front of us since we sat at the counter. The sakura tree was made first. The dark chocolate tree trunk was pre-made and so chocolate mousse was piped onto the plate. They added pink crumbs, raspberry jelly, and brownie chunks on the mousse and then topped it off with alfalfa. To finish off the dessert, they placed fluffy, pink cotton candy onto the trunk. The sakura tree dessert was extremely chocolate-y. The mousse was really heavy and sweet and so we mixed it with the bits of brownie, raspberry jelly, and cookie crumbs to make it not as sweet, but it was still really heavy. We were warned that the tree is really hard, but it was like a typical dark chocolate bar. I’m not sure if the cotton candy is supposed to have a certain flavor, but it just tasted like sugar. The break the tear took a while to make since they had to warm up the sugar, pump it into a ball, and then melt the bottom of it before plating it. The guy succeeded in making the sugar ball the 2nd time! It was fascinating watching him make the sugar ball! While waiting for break the tear, the cotton candy tree shrunk a bit LOL. The sugar ball was placed over a plate of ice cream and ice which was premade. We were given one hammer and were gonna hold it together and break the dessert, but they were really nice and offered us another hammer! So fun breaking it! Inside the sugar ball, there was gorgonzola ice cream, celery ice, walnuts, hazelnut cake, and port wine sauce. The gorgonzola ice cream was interesting, and it tasted like cold gorgonzola lol. We had no idea what the ice was since we couldn’t taste it and so we looked at the menu again and realized that it’s celery and tried it again and could finally taste it. The hazelnut cake was hard, like a biscuit and it was a little bit bitter. Tbh, I had no idea it was hazelnut cake. Couldn’t taste the port wine sauce either, but saw it. We had so much fun watching the desserts being made and it was also delicious! Would love to come back to try another dessert!…Read More

It took me a while to find the place cuz I couldn’t figure out which floor the place was on thank goodness a security guard helped me and told me it’s on the basement floor. When I finally got there, there were so many people, but the line moved pretty quickly. The cashier was impatient and annoyed with me since I took a while because my Cantonese is bad. I took a picture of the menu beforehand and showed her what I wanted and I double checked if it had mushroom sauce and she told me it’s not in an annoyed voice. She also asked me what I wanted to drink and I said Horlick in Chinese but I didn’t pronounce it correctly so she was confused and frustrated and finally understood what I wanted. I got a ticket but I didn’t know where to put it and so a worker told me to put it on a table and I did and another worker in the kitchen saw me and told me that nobody’s gonna make my order if I put it there and told me to give it to him instead. The place was crowded and so many people were hovering others for seats. I was gonna swoop in and get a seat but then the waitress told me to sit near the door instead but that seat was terrible cuz everyone is walking in and out and there’s so little space so people were bumping into me 🙄 The food came really quickly and wow, the chicken leg was huge. Extremely crispy on the outside too; as my knife cut through, I could hear the crunchiness of the skin 😮 the meat was juicy and smooth too. The mushroom sauce was okay though. It had too much black pepper that overpowered the mushroom flavor, but it was creamy and there were mushrooms in it. Glad I had a sweet drink to go with the dish.Food was pretty good, but service was bad. I don’t recommend during lunch/dinner hours since it’s extremely crowded...…Read More

Ice cream sandwich
Lai Kei Ice Cream
2019-05-15
My friend recommended this ice cream place last time I visited them in Macau, but we didn’t get to come here last time. I forgot that she recommended the red bean ice cream, and so I got the ice cream sandwich instead. The box is so cute! But the ice cream sandwich was not that good... There were 3 flavors of ice cream in the sandwich, and I was trying to figure out each one. I could distinctly taste the white one and brown one, which is coconut and coffee, but I had a hard time figuring out the yellow one, and so we asked the worker there and he said it’s vanilla, but I still couldn’t taste it... The wafer that sandwiched the ice cream was soft and limp, but I expected it to be crispy. Tbh, the ice cream sandwich was cute, but didn’t taste that good. Might come back to try the red bean ice cream though, but the sandwich really wasn’t the best... …Read More

Lucky bun
康蘭餅店
2019-05-15
Since I was in Cheung Chau, I had to get a lucky bun! I couldn’t decide on what bun to get and so I asked what’s the original flavor and the person said white sesame, but I was confused at first cuz my canto sucks and she kinda looked at me like I was dumb since I was asking all these questions and then I explained I’m a foreigner and then she praised my Cantonese 😂 The white sesame was surprisingly sweet (I thought it would be savory) it tasted like osmanthus jelly with bits of white sesame in it, but I couldn’t really taste the white sesame. I was told beforehand that the buns weren’t as fresh and that the sweet potato ones were steaming hot, but I wanted to try something different and so my bun was kinda cold when I got it but it was still soft and delicious.…Read More

Disappointing dessert...
允升甜品
2019-05-15
I was really excited to try this place and so I ordered the 3 flavored mango rolls for $37. Green is matcha, white is coconut, and black is black sesame mango roll. All were topped off with mango purée. The matcha and coconut flavor was extremely weak (I couldn’t taste it at all...) and so I had low expectations when I finally got to the black sesame roll, but it had a strong black sesame flavor. The rolls were really smooth and the mango kinda sweet. The purée was sweet, but there were lots of mango fibers in it 😭I don’t recommend this dessert at all..…Read More

Decent lunch
Itamama (何文田廣場)
2019-05-15
Ordered an oven baked beef and cheese with rice and soup. It also came with milestone soup, but it was kinda salty...The rice was my favorite: short grain Japanese rice, but it was room temperature/a bit cold... Disappointing... At least the oven baked beef and cheese was hot. Most of the beef pieces were really soft, but some of the tendons were harder to chew and so I ended up cutting it into smaller pieces. The tomato sauce itself is salty, but mixing it with the rice balanced it out. Melted cheese + beef + rice is really good though but disappointed in the rice...…Read More

Mediocre lunch
Lim Kee Bing Sutt (Spring Garden Lane)
2019-05-15
I got the B lunch set which was chicken julienne and pineapple with satay sauce. While waiting, the servers kept giving me the wrong dish... First was cuz the person who was originally sitting at my seat changed spots. Second was cuz they were too lazy to pass it to the right table which was 2 tables from us. Last mix up was cuz they entered the wrong table number (they used my table number for someone else’s order). When I finally got my dish, they had a receipt stuck ON TOP the rice.. so unhygienic... it took me a couple of minutes to find utensils since I thought they were in a drawer at the table, but they completely forgot to give them to me even though they remembered to give it to the person sitting across from me and we ordered at the same time... disappointed in the service. The lunch set was mediocre. The sauce was really watered down and there weren’t that many pieces of chicken in it. At least it was hot... Could get a better meal for the around the same price somewhere else tbh... …Read More

I wanted to try Macaunese food and googled some dishes when I had WiFi at the hotel but the places I googled were too far, and so we Openrice-d some places that were closer and ended up going to this place since it was close by.After we ordered, they gave us some dinner buns which were really hard on the outside, but when I bit into it, the inside was really soft and the outside was crunchy. We also got a pitcher of some kind of wine with bits of apple and lemon in it. Tbh, I don’t like alcohol, and so I didn’t like the drink😅The first dish that came was fried potato and fish balls. Crispy on the outside, but soft inside, it had a strong potato taste but couldn’t taste the fish at all. It tasted good, but I expected to taste the fish, not only potato...The second dish was pork neck and it was delicious. It was so juicy and the sides were a bit crispy. The next dish was chicken curry. It was spicier than I expected and the piece of chicken I got had more bone than chicken 😅 The meat was on the drier side too... don’t know how the other pieces were though. The potatoes were really soft and soaked up the curry nicely. Next was the roasted baby pig with rice. The meat was so juicy because of the fat and the skin was crispy. Under it was fried rice, which was also really good.Next picture is fried potato strips and that was the best dish out of all of them 😂 The fried potato strips were thin and crunchy, but they didn’t feel very oily.We also got an eggplant in tomato sauce dish, but it was too salty for my liking. To be healthy, we added a plate of lettuce and fish (I think it was fish). The lettuce was cooked perfectly; it still had a nice crunch to it but it didn’t taste raw. It was nice trying this place with a lot of people! If I remember correctly, it wasn’t too expensive after splitting it between 7 people (~$210 per person I think). …Read More

My expectations were too high 😅
新鴻發咖啡美食

meal! I saw this hella thick French toast on Instagram and it looked so good, so I recommended this place. TBH, my expectations was too high.. it was basically a block of bread, fried like a French toast, with a bit of peanut butter spread in it. The bread was soft, but because it was so big, the peanut butter was so little compared to it...The cheese, pork cutlet, egg pineapple sandwich was delicious! It was a nice combo of savory and sweet and the pork cutlet wasn’t too tough.Next is the egg and beef sandwich. We tried splitting it 7 ways, and so i got a tiny bite of it LOL. It was not bad though. The scrambled egg was fluffy and the beef wasn’t too hard. The bread was really soft and fluffy, and a little sweet. We also got the stir fry beef rainbow noodles, which basically tasted like Chinese stir fried thick noodles lol.we also got a pineapple bun with butter, but it was mediocre. It wasn’t fresh and was barely warm...To feel a bit healthier, we also got a plate of Chinese broccoli, which was cooked perfectly since the pieces were not hard at all, but it wasn’t over cooked either.I also got salty lime coke since it’s rare in HK and I wanted to try it. I was surprised that this combo was much better than I expected. It was sweet, sour and a bit salty 😆It was nice trying this local place and thank goodness there wasn’t many tourists like us even though it was a public holiday…Read More

Fluffy pancakes
A Happy Pancake
2019-05-05
Happy Pancake opened in Causeway Bay last year and I heard it’s really popular, so we decided to line up at 10:15am since it opens at 10:30am. I got there at 10am and there was nobody yet! By 10:30am there were only a few more groups, but not enough to fill up the cafe (maybe because it’s a weekday). We got the tiramisu, milk tea, and mushroom omelette pancakes to share between 4 people, but we all had to order drinks since they have a rule that you either have to order one dish per person or you have to order a drink for everyone if you don’t order a dish per person. All the pancakes were so soft and fluffy and it was like I was eating nothing because the pancakes were so light, but the dishes were actually really filling 😆The tiramisu pancakes came with coffee sauce that you can pour all over the pancakes. It was a delicious bittersweet combination of coffee, chocolate, and cream 😍 My favorite was the milk tea pancake! The sauce had a strong milk tea flavor and I couldn’t get enough of the sauce 😂😅 It also came with cream and was topped off with granola, giving it a nice crunch. The savory pancake we got was mushroom omelette. The pancakes were different from the sweet dishes, and had wheat flavor and denser texture. The omelette was stuffed with mushrooms was topped with tomato sauce. Even though the savory pancake was delicious, I still prefer sweet ones 😂I also ordered a vanilla latte since everyone had to get a drink. It wasn’t too sweet, which I liked. Very frothy, but I could still taste the coffee.I loved eating here! Not only were the pancakes delicious, the atmosphere was really nice and relaxing, although a bit chilly because of the air conditioning. Would love to come back to try other pancakes! …Read More

Mediocre matcha drink
Xing Fu Tang
2019-05-05
On Instagram, I saw that they were having a buy one get one free deal for matcha boba milk and so I decided to try it. I always get less sweet for my drinks, but I forgot to tell them this time and expected it to be extremely sweet, but the drink was surprisingly not as sweet as I expected 😮 But the matcha flavor was very weak... I could barely taste it... I don’t know why the boba was pink, but it didn’t taste like anything special. Also, the boba was inconsistent; some where really soft and chewy, but others had a hard center... I don’t really recommend this drink, but oh well, it was buy one get one free so each on was $14HKD…Read More

Char siu rice
連和燒味餐廳
2019-05-05
Been craving char siu for a while and decided to give this restaurant a try. The char sui rice was pretty good, but I would’ve liked it if they gave me more veggies :( They only gave me like 3 stems of chinese broccoli, but at least it wasn’t really hard to chew. The char siu was so juicy and I loved how the rice soaked up the fat from the meat, but the rice was also soaked with soy sauce, making it really salty. Will ask for less soy sauce next time if I come here again. …Read More

Explosive custard bread
Phoenix. Lava
2019-05-05
Been wanting to try Phoenix Lava for a while! They’re known for their explosive custard buns! I tried the durian one even though I don’t like durian😅 They just ran out of durian bun, and so we had to wait about 15 minutes for them to steam up a new batch. The bun was hot and soft and the custard was really watery, but I could taste the durian flavor. My friend got the chocolate bun and she said the custard was so watered down that it didn’t taste like chocolate... Another friend got the pork bun and he said it just tasted like a char siu bao. Another got the cheese bacon bun and he said that it’s like char siu bao with cheese 😂 I also got the coix seed drink, and it was pretty bland. The place didn’t really meet my expectations and I don’t think I’ll be coming back any time soon 😅…Read More

Noodles!
Tower 18 Doggie's Noodle
2019-05-05
This place’s a Michelin recommended street eat, so I had to try it! I expected a lot of people, but there was nobody when I got there 😮 The noodles were kinda like short udon noodles, but softer. The soup was delicious, and kinda tasted like seafood... I think.. lol idk the taste was really familiar, but I can’t figure out what it is... The noodles was topped with pickled vegetables, but the flavor wasn’t really strong. The soup was really oily though... It was nice trying it, but it wasn’t especially good or anything..…Read More

Boba pancake 😍
TeaWood Deluxe
2019-05-04
I’ve been wanting to try Teawood Deluxe cuz of the boba pancake and I finally got to go! For dinner, I got set N which is deep fried pork rib rice with ginseng oolong pearl milk tea. The fried pork cutlet was so crispy on the outside, but surprising the meat was juicy and not dry at all. I loved the Taiwanese minced meat 😍 It was so juicy and oily, but the rice balanced it out. The milk tea was a little on there sweeter side (I forgot to ask for less sugar) and the pearls were terrible 😰 Most of the pearls were hard in the middle and so I ended up just drinking the milk tea.The dessert was the best part 😍 It’s only at Teawood Deluxe, so I was looking forward to it. The dessert took a while though... I think they left it there cuz when we got it, most of the ice cream was melted... The thick soufflé pancake was stuffed with pearls and cream cheese frosting and topped with more cream, pearls, gold flakes, and rose petals. There was a cup of maple syrup that you can use, but the pancake itself was sweet enough for me. The cream was delicious🤤 I scrapped every bit of my plate to make sure I got every bit of it. Surprising, the pearls were not as bad as the ones in the drink. Maybe they’re from a different batch... but not sure...…Read More
