Chanced upon this on a hungry night
Tiger Curry
2016-09-17
Ordered curry rice with kurobuta pork katsu, and curry rice with fried ebiI personally thought the kurobuta katsu was yummy. i topped up cheese to my curry but the cheese they use made me felt like it wasnt worth it cos it's tasteless. The texture of the katsu was just right and I like that I am able to choose the level of spiciness I want for my curry. My buddy ordered ebi fry and she was quite unpleased as there were only 3 pieces of small ebi fry and it cost about 17hkd per piece. So she found it not worth it. she topped up an egg to her curry rice and that was pretty good, in her opinion.Overall, the curry was very normal in my opinion, not very savoury and the curry powder smell was quite strong. would've preferred it if the curry was sweeter (cooked in vegetable broth) and served with some carrots and potatoes.Service was less than average.…查看更多

Crossed the sea for this
Chau Kee
2016-09-17
Feel that this is a stall that mainly attracts student patrons.Ordered the famous shrimp toast, salted egg lava toast, fried spring roll chee chong fun and siew mai (cos we were super sold by 点点心's chee chong fun and siew mai)The generous amount of sesame for the shrimp toast makes the first bite an unforgettable one, cos it's super fragrant. Subsequent mouths were tasty, just that the middle parts of my toastbwere bit too soft cos of the prawn filling so the filling totally covered the toast's taste eventually.I wasn't a fan of their salted egg lava toast cos I felt the salted egg fragrance wasn't strong enough and it was a bit too watery (maybe cos they wanna let it flow out hahaha). my buddy liked it though and she finished the wjole thing almost by herself. so I guess it is worth a try! especially those with sweet tooth as this is a sweet dish. The fried spring roll ccf was a bit too fat. If the spring rolls were smaller, it'd have been easier to eat and less easy to get sick of cos it's quite oily also.considering that all 3 dishes so far were deep fried.the siew mai was alright, it featured more meat than prawn unlike other siew mais served elsewhere.…查看更多

Famous cheese noodles tucked in a ulu building
Sun Kee
2016-09-16
we ordered their famous cheese noodles with pork collar and a scrambled egg toast.the cheese noodles has nice thick creamy texture mixed with instant noodles and roasted pork collar (pork collar is very nicely done, in terms of the taste and texture). We only ordered one bowl to share as we feel that it'll be quite "jelat (too creamy)" for us to each take on a bowl. The scrambled egg toast is really mediocre, don't bother ordering it.btw, this is quite a difficult place to locate as it is hidden in one of the many buildings around the area. keep a lookout for a building with many camera shops and you'll be at the right place.…查看更多

First meal in HK
Dim Dim Sum
2016-09-16
We ordered: spring roll chee chong fun, truffle xiao long bao, siew mai, lotus leaf glutinous rice, carrot cake, custard bun, milk tea and snow pear dessert.Too much food for 2 of us definitely, although we were super hungry, having walked to the shop from You Ma Ti station.the dim sum were really average, service was great and they were friendly to foreigners which made it memorable as it was our first encounter with HK people other than hotel staff. The must trys are:-fried spring roll chee chong fun-milk tea-siew mainot impressive are:-truffle Xiao long bao (no taste of truffle and there was no soup in the bao, skin was thick and meat wasnt fragrant, ding tai fung still the best for this haha)-carrot cake; soft and you can taste the big chunks of juicy radish. however we arent fans of radish and we found this dish to be rather tasteless too. We expected a crispier version that's soft on the inside. this one was just soft, inside outside and middle. :(…查看更多

That famous roast shop
Yat Lok Restaurant
2016-09-16
perhaps it's our navigation, but it took us a few rounds to finally locate this roast shop.went during lunch time, unfortunately there was a long queue. glad that we spent probably only 15 mins queuing cos the shop is very efficient in sitting people and serving up their famous roast. We had char siew and roast geese rice, pretty yum but not heavenly as we had really high expectation cos wveryone recommends this place! nonetheless, the service was prompt and good, friendly to foreigners also, which was a rare sight.food wise, I think there are roast shops in Singapore that costs half the price and are equally good, minus the queue and squeeze.…查看更多

So many Mak Kee, we tried this
Mak Man Kee Noodle Shop
2016-09-16
So many branches, which one to try? we saw this outlet while queuing for Australian Dairy, and guess what, there's 2 outlets side to side called Mak Kee. LolSo, we chose this one cos it looks more old school and authentic. The noodles soup was small but good. there were 5 wontons in each noodle soup, and each one has generous fillibg of prawn and meat.Service is bad. Rude and impatient although the stall is empty. also saw something gross.the guy cooking the noodles at the front of the stall dropped a ball of noodles on the floor (covered in brown cupboard), the floor is greasy and dirty of cos, as it is the spot where the chef stands. So the chef dropped the ball of noodles, he picked up and continue dropping that noodles into the cooker. how gross is that. We also watched them serve this bowl of noodles to a table.there were other staff who saw the chef's act, but they were just nonchalant about it.So up to you to decide if you wanna give this branch a go, or the many other Maks around HK.…查看更多

One of the best ramen, ever. Superb soup base and char siew. YUMZ.Service and queue is quick, especially on weekday after 9pm. We went on both day, Sat 9pm (queued for at least 40mins), Tues 9pm (no queue). If you really like it, You can also purchase the instant noodles pack, at 198HKD for 5 packets.…查看更多

Our first Tea Restaurant in HK
Mido Cafe
2016-09-16
Went there on a rainy Friday morning around 11am.overall, we really adore the look of the place, very retro vintage authentic old HK feel, Like those we watched from movie.service staff were not the friendliest, but not horrible la.We super duper loved the French toast cos it's freaking good, it is rather oily but definitely worth it. Also ordered the ham baked rice, quite yum yum. Like how they spam onions and also how the rice in the baked rice was fried with egg and onions.…查看更多

Monday night dinner
Tsui Wah Restaurant
2016-09-13
Ordered condense milk butter bun, soy sauce chicken wings and a sizzling plate noodles with sweet and sour sauce.Overall food was bad in taste. The bun was mediocre (tastes like Yakun except this is 2x Yakun price), soy sauce chicken wings was blend, tastes as if the sauce and the wings were only mix together for few minutes, you can't taste any fragrance in it. The most expensive dish ($113 or $118 hkd), sizzling plate noodles with sweet and sour sauce prawns, the noodles is dry af, there isnt any gravy on the noodles and omg, for the first time a sweet and sour sauce sauted with onion and some big looking chilli is tasteless.. Super not worth it, including the bad service, Tsui Wah just made it to our worst food place list within HK.…查看更多
