A late Saturday lunch
Keigetsu Japanese Cuisine
2015-03-28
Just happened to visit Central on a Saturday afternoon. Lunch was late at around 2 pm and had no expectation to find something exciting. Pass through Stanley Street and saw one of the food landmark Stanley 11 with a plethora of restaurant but most have stopped serving lunch. Ooops:) saw a restaurant named 桂月, which reminded me of a Japanese sake 月桂冠.When the elevator door opened, it surprised me with a crowded scene. Anyway, the surrounding is cosy and I was allocated to the sushi table. Not in a mood to have sushi today and decided to look for cooked food. Some 10+ lunch sets but I couldn't found my favourite カツ丼 or サバの塩焼. But don't get me wrong, on another lunch menu something grabbed my attention, a petite version of the so called 三重弁当 which I selected 豚肉生薑燒 and 燒鰻魚.For a start, the green salad was quite refreshing with the matching Jap salad dressing. It would be 'icing on the cake' if there was some cherry tomato and cucumber. Then came the steam egg which was succulent The full set 豚肉生薑燒 and 燒鰻魚 served on two small bowls with miso and appetizer. First tried the 豚肉生薑燒, a generous slice of  豚肉 with a well balanced flavour of shoyu, mirin and a tad of ginger  whilst the 燒鰻魚 also taste good.Regarding the miso, it was not excessively salty and I like the crunchy 蓮藕 of the appetizer. But it would be even better if they have added 山藥.Time to leave after finishing all the food, when the shopkeeper shown me the bill びっくり it was only $101, cos lunch set was half price on Saturday, a steal in Central. Anyway a fufilling Saturday lunch and will be interest to try out their dinner.…Read More

A hidden treasure In Kwun Tong
PP Cafe
2014-05-08
The restaurant located at the alley of an industrial building, quite mysterious! Not the first time to visit but this time would like to try their pasta Bolognaise. Add $15 would incl soup, dessert and tea.Tonight's soup is cream of tuna, thick creamy with chunks of tuna. I particularly like to dip the ciabatta with olive oil and Basalmic vinegar. Off topic already tried their Borsch with plenty of vegi! Here comes the secondo pasta Bolognaise,Optimal richness of meat sauce, not for those who like Hongkee style watery meat sauce. There are finely chopped carrots and garlic as well. Not a specialist in pasta but I think the pasta is not too soft or what they call it al dente, a reminiscent of the pasta I tried in Assisi:)The dessert was creme brulee, it's fine but I am not a big fan of this dessert would prefer a piece of light cheese cake:)It is exciting to have an above par standard pasta other than the boring 茶餐廳 or the chain fast food at Kwun Tong. Last time the staff was kind enough to let me taste their butterfly crisp, less buttery but still tasty at $30 something reasonable price compared with 4xx. Next time would like to try their risotto.…Read More
